Spontaneous weekend getaways are my favorite. Sam and I used Valentine’s Day as an excuse to go down to Chicago and enjoy the 60 degree February weather that we had here! Today I want to share my weekend in outfits. Enjoy my journey from riverwalk to the beach, from Logan Square to Lincoln Park with a little West Loop and Village thrown in between, and don’t hesitate to link up with us 🙂
Have you heard of athleisure? It’s my favorite trend ever, because you get to combine workout clothes with everyday clothes, like jeans and this Gap body top. I also can’t get over these Reeboks I thrifted for $5.55!
Do you athleisure? Make sure to tell me by leaving a comment below!
Please join us for the weekly link up and let us know if you’d like to co-host! I’ll be sending out a reminder email later this week with a sign up doc 🙂
The velvet trend is one of my favorites this fall! I recently got this Crushed Velvet Swing Dress at Forever 21 for only $12.90 (I actually got it in both colors), and have been loving it! It’s so soft and easy, plus you can style it in so many different ways! It makes a nice addition to my vintage velvet dress collection.
Are you wearing velvet this season? How do you style it?

Summer is finally here and I am so glad to be spending all my free time outside, but with the sunshine, the heat and the humidity comes the question of hair care. While some would say – why bother? I think it’s extremely important to take good care of your hair, especially in the summer months. Besides, if the products you are using leave you feeling like a celebrity, who can say no to that?
You know you are Russian when your hair products are infused with caviar! But I wouldn’t have it any other way! Therappe and Humectress line by Nexxus New York Salon Care is a replenishing hair care line with caviar complex! Nothing fishy here, not even the smell! The line includes a line of shampoo, conditioner, lightweight conditioning mist, masque and serum infused with caviar complex to help your hair retain moisture. It’s perfect for normal to dry hair. My hair has been on the drier side, especially since I started getting balayage, so this line is my new go-to. I look forward to washing my hair so much more now, and actually have to remind myself not to do that every day. The products are enriched with concentrated Elastin, Keratin and Wheat Proteins to increase hair’s strength and manageability. In addition, new Protein Care Actives penetrate the hair fiber to repair protein structure, making hair stronger from within.
I am absolutely in love with the masque and caviar serum. The masque has a butter like texture that you won’t want to wash out, I use it once or twice a week depending on my hair condition, so if I spent too much time at the beach, or outside, I know my hair will need that extra masque boost.
The serum is the very first serum Nexxus has ever created! How awesome is this? It features concentrated conditioning oil encapsulated in pearls and suspended in a water-based rebuilding serum rich in nutrients and protein. You can use this serum on damp or dry hair. The best part is you can use it as often as you want, no harm in that, only benefits.
Now as important as hair care is, you can’t forget about styling. I stick to one simple rule of summer hair style – make it as easy and effortless, as possible. And Nexxus has a line for that. I was able to test Finishing Mist, Dry Shampoo and Mousse by Nexxus New York Salon Care.
Finishing Mist with fluid-fix complex helps me lock my waves in place if I am using my curling iron, as well as provides a lasting hold with a brushable finish.
Mousse with Keratin Protein offers styling with natural movement and beautiful fluidity, perfect for my on-the-go lifestyle.
And finally, the dry shampoo with pearl extract is truly a godsend. Dry shampoo would be one thing I would take to a deserted island, it’s that big of a necessity. I especially like this one, because it offers a quick refresher, without using too much of the product!
Nexxus New York Salon Care has turned my summer hair care routine around, making my hair more manageable, touchable, and fluid!
Hi all, I am so excited to start a series of blog posts in collaboration with Silver Jeans! As you may have already guessed, these posts are going to be focused on denim, styling and rocking the latest trends.
I am going to start with these boyfriend shorts aka my new summer favorite! Unfinished hem and fit of these shorts give them a casual and relaxed look. They are comfortable and stylish.
Boyfriend shorts are extremely versatile, wear them with your favorite vintage tee (like me), or pair it up with a tank top, or a button down. Add a blazer and throw on a pair of heels for a brunch date with the girlfriends, or a day date with that special someone! They are also perfect for boho and festival looks that have been so popular this year, just imagine a long kimono over them! Isn’t that fun?
How would you style boyfriend shorts? Check out more options below!

Temperature is rising, swimsuits are out, I can’t wait to spend more time at the beach and the pool, now that we are all done moving from St Louis Park, to Lowry Hill. I am so excited to spend this summer in Uptown Minneapolis. Sam and I spent the first 2 years of our marriage in an apartment in Loring Park, and going to the lake was one of our favorite things to do.
We always try to be active when we go to the lake or pool, whether it’s swimming, or kayaking, or paddle boarding. But sometimes you just need to relax and float around. So this year I decided to make my water activities more relaxing, and the SwimWays Spring Float Recliner is more than perfect for it.
I personally have a hard time laying on a recliner by the pool, I need to be in the pool. And this is what this floating recliner does. This luxury fabric-covered inflatable float is designed for relaxing downtime at the pool. It’s ultra comfortable, features a sit-up style, backrest, headrest, ottoman, and the always necessary – beverage holder! Plus the patented Inner Spring Technology allows it to be easily inflated, closed and carried. It’s so fast and easy to pack/unpack, inflate/deflate and carry around, I would definitely recommend it! It’s so comfy, and matches my swimsuit, which is an added bonus.
I wanted to also share a couple advice when it comes to picking a swimsuit.
- Right size. A swimsuit bottom that’s too big will cause a diaper butt when it gets wet. A bottom that’s too tight will pinch on the body in places where you don’t want it to.
- Right fit. Some look good in halters, others look good in bandeaus, others look good in one pieces. Try on a lot of different styles (not colors), and
- Right attitude. Swimsuit shopping can be stressful and emotional. Find a way that works for you. Don’t mind ordering a wide variety of sizes and styles online and then trying it all at home? – Then go for it! Like to try things on at a store? – There are so many great locations out there!
- Right color. First of all, you can’t go wrong with black. Second, you can’t go wrong if you have a favorite color. Love patterns? Then pick patterns. Have a lot of suits already? Take photos before you go shopping, so you don’t end up with a similar suit to what you already have (we tend to gravitate towards items that are similar to the ones already existing in our wardrobe, watch out for that!)
- Focus on the good. Nobody knows your body better than you! Have killer legs? Don’t cover them up with a swim skirt. In fact, swim skirts are evil, and make the legs look shorter. Even a swim skirt with a slit is evil. They are all evil. Got nice shoulders, show them off! Highlight your advantages, it will make you feel better!
- Go for the quality. A $30 swimsuit from Target or H&M is definitely appealing, but if it falls apart after a couple trips to the pool, and one wash, you are going to have to spend another $30, and so on! A few brands I would recommend are Seafolly, Vix, Gottex and their other line called Profile, that offers a lot of size options, Maaji, Isola, and Lenny Niemeyer.
- Take care of your suit. Hand wash and lay flat to dry only, no washing machine, even if it has a gentle cycle. Use a special soap that helps wash out chlorine. If you don’t have a special swimsuit soap, use baby shampoo, or a gentle cleaner. Another tip: don’t let chlorine dry in your suit. It’s better to keep it damp on the way home from the pool, and wash it then, chlorine causes discoloration and yellowing of the fabric.
I hope you find this post and my tips helpful. Feel free to message me with any questions!
We spent all weekend moving from our house, to Sam’s parents’ basement. I woke up Sunday morning and told him how happy I felt. He replied – that’s because when you lived in New York you lived on the ground floor. He was right. Sometimes it still surprises me how well my husband knows me. I will talk about home ownership, and our house more later this week. But I am so happy in this ground floor “apartment” of ours for the time being.
Last night we took a walk through downtown, all the way to Stone Arch Bridge and around, it was beautiful. We ended it at the vigil for Orlando victims in Loring Park. So much sadness, but so much love at the same time. And love is the greatest of them all, remember it this week.
This copper dress is a little something I found at Target recently, it’s a WhoWhatWear line, I own the same one in black. It has spaghetti straps, but last night was chilly, so I threw this Francesca’s crop top over it. Sometimes a crop top makes all the difference. And of course my new favorite TOMS 😉

Vintage band t-shirts are my favorite, they are also pretty easy to find when out thrifting. I cut the sleeves off on this Led Zeppelin number though before wearing it, just because.
This weekend we are moving out of our house and into my in-laws’ basement for about a month and a half while I finish school, and before we move to Milwaukee. So as I was writing this post I realized that these are probably the last pictures I will ever take in front of my garage door 😉 I don’t find it one bit sentimental.
