Floral Embroidery

I have been loving the floral embroidery trend this summer, and couldn’t wait to try it. I was even considering doing my own embroidery on a dress I’ve already owned. But then I thrifted this beauty in Colorado. And I knew we couldn’t part. The beauty of an embroidered dress, you may ask? No need to accessorize. Just throw on your favorite pair of shoes, and a purse.

The September Issue

“Vogue came. It’s pretty big” – that’s the text I got from my husband as I was leaving work today. I’ve been waiting for this issue since the last one came! I am serious! I love the September Issue.

But before we look through it together, I want to share a video with you, it’s 100% true, and I encourage you to watch it, and never ever act like this in a cosmetics department!

And now on to the Vogue:

Look how huge it is, compared to the game case:

The cover unfolded, as it often does, and revealed those cool covers/shots from December 1892 andNovember 1949. Yes, Vogue is 120 years old! I quickly cut those out, and am planning on framing them ASAP!

Couldn’t ignore this Mila Kunis ad for Dior! Yes, that’s how you become an A list actress!

This Dolce & Gabbana ad is so Russian to me:

Love the new O.P.I nail polish collection, look at how vibrant the colors are. I also had a ball reading the names! Can I please work as the nail polish name creator?

This issue was everything that I expected it to be and more! I am also excited and looking forward to trying this sample of L’Oreal’s BB cream

And shopping at Target when these new collections come around:

And finally, to top it all off, I wore a $140 skirt to work today, that cost me only $11.50! Yes, thrifting pays off my friends 🙂

What caught your eye in the September issue?

Earth Day Outfit

Happy Earth Day everyone, I hope you had a great day and reduced, reused or recycled! Here is what I got out of this day:

I recycled an almost empty tinted moisturizer at the Origins counter at Macy’s and got a full size Age Defense Moisturizer with SPF 25 – it usually comes in a jar, so don’t be confused by the packaging 😉

I also scored a free reusable bag at Target, don’t know what I am going to use it for yet, but it’s good to have!

The L’oreal sample came from the May issue of Vogue magazine.

And finally – free coffee in my reusable RBC mug from Caribou 🙂

I had to work today, which meant wearing black for the 4 hours that I spent at Macy’s, but then Sam and I went to a concert, and I went all out for that:

Shoes: Nine West Vintage America

Jeans: Ragstock

Shirt: Old Navy

Sheer Blouse: Ragstock

Jacket: BCBG Max Azria

Bag: Coach

Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs

The show we saw was pretty good, we only stayed for one band (Step in Clouds), but they were giving away free CDs. I personally thought they sounded something like Augustana.

Earth Day is now one of my favorite holidays 😉 What did you do today?

Vogue.

Nine West Vintage America

Джинсы: Ragstock

Розовая футболка: Old Navy

Прозрачная белая блузка: Ragstock

Пиджак: BCBG Max Azria

Сумка: Coach

Часы: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Tory Burch Diaper Bag and other events of the week!

Alright, so from Johnny Weir getting married, to the new season of The Bachelor and the Biggest Loser premiering this week, somewhere in between I found out that Tory Burch makes diaper bags! The ones that look like this:

Which I think is absolutely amazing! So if you ever have kids, dear readers, make sure to put this baby on the baby registry! Get it?!? LOL

In other news, Kim K got a hair cut! I bet $1 that these bangs are clip-ons 🙂

What? You don’t believe me that clip on bangs exist? Well they are available on amazon, and they are on sale!

And finally – out of all spring trends that are falling from Fall 2011, these two are my favorites:

Polka dots

 and bright pants:

But my favorite fashion looks still come from Lookbook.nu!

Have a good week everyone!

Fashion Personalities: Emily Sandberg

Social networks are an amazing thing. You never know what you get inside! Back in August I somehow started a conversation with Emily Sandberg, one of the most famous fashion models in the US and in the world. The conversation evolved around my $10 vintage COACH cross body, that I scored at a local thrift store in Minneapolis. We then exchanged a few emails, but lost touch for a couple months. Then I asked her if she wouldn’t mind me interviewing her for my blog. To which she agreed.

One of the main reasons why I wanted to interview Emily was because she is a Minnesota native, from Rochester. And even though she doesn’t live here anymore, I believe she can be a fashion and personal style inspiration to all of us here in Minneapolis and in other parts of the country. Another great thing about Emily, is that she is a mom, and she shares some tips on how not to lose your personal style after having a baby!

When and how did you become interested in fashion?
My grandmother gave my mother a 3 strand necklace that was made of green glass. My first awakening to fashion was thinking all night how I could wear that necklace to school the next day. What would be the perfect outfit to go with it. I finally decided on a pair of slightly baggy jeans, my Doc Martin boots, a white t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up and the finishing touch was stealing my fathers v-neck grey sweater. I considered myself to be the ultimate prep that day.

Was it hard to pursue fashion in Minnesota?

It wasn’t difficult at all. I signed with Kari Larson at Agency Models and Talent and started working with her. Everything she suggested I do, I did. Eventually I began to work and then I discovered a model could make more money doing what I was doing in New York. So I moved and repeated the same process I had just gone through in Minneapolis.

Who is your fashion role model or a fashion icon you look up to?
A favorite model for me has been Guinevere Van Seenus. She’s the SS12 face of Miu Miu. To me she represents everything a model is: image, strength, intelligence, experience, intrigue, mystery.

What/who is your favorite brand/designer and why?
I love love love Christian LaCroix. He captures my imagination.

Dries Van Noten captures my intelligence.

Lanvin is the epitome of elegance.

And for every day wear, I’m a Marc Jacobs girl.

How would you describe your personal style?

I’ve been called androgynous. I love men’s wear but I also love to mix in feminine touches and a bit of sparkle. Currently I’m wearing grey boots I’ve had for 13 years, boot cut jeans, a navy stretchy tank top, a James Perce aubergine undershirt, a grey men’s v-neck sweater and this seasons Calypso’s oatmeal sweater. I threw on my Swarovski crystal earrings , Elizabeth and James necklace and Cartier watch for a bit of bling.

What are your wardrobe must-haves?

I’m an accessories girl and I love layers. Must have for me currently are my Cartier watch, Rag and Bone Boots, Hide wallet, James Perse jeans, and Il Bissonti bag. I can fit my life in that bag, including diapers and an extra outfit for Henry.

What is your favorite item in your wardrobe? )Something you had to keep if all of your other clothes were gone)
I have a beautiful handmade ivory evening Italian dress from Mrs. Mullholland’s estate. It is exquisite.

What personal style tips can you give to other women?
Wear what makes you feel empowered. Forget comfortable. Forget trends. Forget any other fashion rules your momma taught you. Dress for yourself first, the rest will follow.

How can one maintain their personal style after starting a family, having kids?
I had to chop off my hair. I just couldn’t take looking in the mirror every day and seeing my hair not done and not having the energy to do it. I finally just cut it off.

My style changed because my body changed as well as my inner life. I’ve always enjoyed a relaxed style but now I’ve incorporated a more adult version of that.

Have you ever been in a fashion rut and how did you get out of it?
When I first moved to Los Angeles my entire wardrobe consisted of three choices: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Addidas track pants or beautiful evening dresses.

I think the best way to get out of a rut is to grab your most fashionable friend and have her take you shopping. Try on everything she tells you to.

I also like to keep a few key pieces in my closet that I look to for inspiration. I have beautiful Dries Van Noten turquoise beaded scarf that inspires me. I never wear it but it’s gives me direction. That and my collection of Louboutins gets me going.

I once again want to thank Emily for agreeing to this interview and for being an inspiration to me, and hopefully you as well!

Vintage America

Target is not the only store that is famous for collaborations with top designers. Macy’s has recently started selling Karl Lagerfeld’s collection, and Nine West has launched a new collection called Vintage America.

When I first saw the NW add, I was immediately drawn to it, I loved the song, the idea behind it. And I got extremely interested in the collection! The mystery for me was Karen Elson. I had no idea who she was. And maybe for some of you her name means a lot, and stands out for a million pictures, shows, designs, etc… I still didn’t know one tiny bit of information about her.

I started reading about her, and she turned out to be a model, singer/songwriter, gone designer. After I read that one sentence about her, my respect towards that Brit skyrocketed and if I admired her after just watching the ad, I started admiring her even more for all the other achievements!

Her magazine covers are also worth checking out! (I just picked a few out of many)

The Karen Elson for Nine West Vintage America Collection collaboration combines the musical spirit of the Nine West Vintage America Collection with Elson’s ethereal fashion and love for vintage treasures.

The vintage-infused footwear, handbags and jewelry collection drew inspiration from the 1930’s Dust Bowl and show girls to create the perpetually cool “on the road” and “stage” accessories, which incorporates rich color tones, sequins and vintage charms.

The story of the collection is told through three of Elson’s songs off her debut album The Ghost Who Walks, and ties to the designs.

Karen designed this limited edition collection bringing her signature passion for vintage to life.

You can read more about this collection and collaboration in Elle, NYMagazine, T Magazine, Huffington Post and many others. But I wanted to share my favorite pieces from the collection with you.

I hope you enjoy this collection as much as me, especially if you are a vintage lover. It’s amazing to see the designs of the past obtain a new twist in the hands of contemporary artists!

PS. Like this post if you dig her hair 🙂 Her songs are also worth listening to! Not everyone will like them, but they are definitely something!

Highs and Lows of the Week

Another week flew by. I noticed how faster the time flies now that I am married. It’s been almost 3 months since I made the BIG move back to the States. Almost 2 months since I’ve been married. Wow, no one ever told me I’d better capture every days memories. I guess one day I’m going to wake up, and I’ll be 30! But isn’t it the age to be?

Anyways, the highlights of the week have been:

1. Getting into the Links a la mod round up on IFB (that’s for Independent Fashion Bloggers – if you didn’t know!)

2. The release of the new iPhone 4S, which I will be getting very soon!

3. My great finds at the warehouse district Salvation Army!

4. TAZO tea, especially it being on sale at Target, and the available coupons, making it really really cheap and worth stocking up on!

5. Tresemme dry shampoo! That has been a life saver! For a someone who has a habit of taking evening showers, this product has been a miracle! It keeps my hair looking clean throughout the day, lasting through the evening! Love it!

Now on to the lows of the week:

1. Death of Steve Jobs

At least there are loving jokes going around Internet about him, and we know he definitely got into Heaven after reading this one!

2. Kate Middleton turning down Vogue cover.

This has been a total bummer for thousands of fashionistas around the world, but she did it, the Duchess of Cambridge declined this offer.

Good thing is, I look so much like her on my new DL, so if Vogue needs a dupe – I’ll do it! Just give me really HIGH heels 😉

Everyone has them, not everyone admits them, but we all want some things! Maybe for a second, maybe for a day, maybe for the rest of our lives! Here are some of mine 🙂

1. Clarisonic Mia NYC edition! How awesome is that?

2. Vintage Denim (or any bright colored pair of jeans 😉 )

3. A coffee table!

… and the room that comes with it 😉

4. Magazine Subscription!

Have a Fab day, you all!

Once Upon a Time…

So we all know the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” (in Russia she is known as “Little Red Hat”). A couple days ago Sarah Jessica Parker, dressed as Little Red Riding Hood appeared on a red carpet in Moscow, she even wore a cape!

The shoes were a KILLER!

I mean what other better color to wear in Moscow, Russia, but RED? Did she wear her RED cape in RED square? I am sure she did a good job promoting her new movie – I Don’t Know How She Does It – in a country which has seen more RED in 70 years than the whole world in centuries.

No one said it was too late to dress up at 46! I can now proudly say that I wore a LRRH during a Halloween party on ’08! And no one wrote about me anywhere in the papers:

But back to Parker though! She did have several changes of a dress. And you can see the Kremlin in the background 🙂 All of you Russia lovers should thank me for pointing that out!

So which one of her outfits do you like the most?

PS. As lame as I am going to sound, I absolutely love SJP and am now going to read the Vogue issue with her on the cover!

PPS. I do kinda wish I was in Russia to see SJP at the premiere, but at the same time I lived in Manhattan for a year, and never saw her 🙂

Matching Vogue

Last night in another boredom frenzy, after having forgotten about an ESL student, I started flipping through a 2008 Vogue with Natalya Vodyanova on the cover. And from there came my great inspiration, no, not from Natalya, from the Vogue! I came across this page

That reminded me of my amazing H&M gray sweater, that I could incorporate into my outfits, and match the ones in Vogue. So here is what I did!

1. I matched the ruffles perfectly, the only difference – my dress was teal, instead of white. Personally I prefer it that way!

Sweater: D&G

Skirt: Christopher

Clutch: Undercover

Sweater: H&M

Dress: Bought in Russia (that’s not a brand, it was actually bought in Russia at some discount store)

Necklaces: H&M, freecycled (free), gift from mom

Clutch: Target

2. I felt like a total loser, because I had a perfect piece to use for this look, and now I can’t find it. The chances are  – I threw it away! Pissed at myself I know. But I used what I had, and this is what I ended up with for Look #2!

Everything is D&G

Sweater: H&M

Dress: Urban Outfitters

Shirt: Saks Fifth Avenue

Necklace: Thrift Store

Clutch: Hand made

3. I chose not to copy look number 3 from Vogue, I am not a huge fan of gray sweatshirts, I had one from Walgreens or CVS (I think it cost about 6 bucks!) So instead I created my own look with a different sweater.

Sweatshirt: Topshop

Undershirt: Paul Smith Women

Skirt: Prada

Dress: H&M

Sweater: Voices of Europe

I hope you enjoyed my little “copy cat” experiment! This, again, proves that you can match your outfit of the day with almost any look from the Vogue Magazine, using the pieces you already have in your closet and a tidbit of imagination!
