Happy New School Year to all the Gophers and everyone who started college classes today! Major FOMO over here, so major I can’t even, but the fact that I don’t have any more homework to do definitely helps 😉

Today I partnered up with Folica to share a few of my favorite college hairstyles and hair care tips.  There are two essential tools that I think ever girl needs in college: a straightener and a curling iron. I don’t know what I would’ve done without the two! Thanks to Folica I got to try two new styling tools: Solia Superhot Professional Titanium Flat Iron and 1″ Salon Curling Iron/Wand by Hot Tools.

Other than wearing my hair down and the go-to bun, today I am going to share a few looks that have been a favorite for a while.

2. Trucker hat. Because sometimes you have to put a hat on it!

3. Side cornrows. These are also a golden opportunity for creating glitter roots! Stay tuned for more on that soon! Back to school hair styles with Folica.com

4. High pony or half pony. The 90’s are back not only in fashion, but in beauty as well! My mom used to call this high pony a palm tree. So there you have it – a palm tree with you wherever you go, even though the summer is almost over! Back to school hair styles with Folica.com

When it comes to hair care, I follow two simple rules: choose what’s best for your hair and switch between brands often. That’s why I went with Grow Gorgeous Density Shampoo and Conditioner as well as Grow Gorgeous Density Shampoo and Conditioner set. When you have fine, color treated hair like mine, these two product lines make the most sense.

I hope you find what’s good for your hair, style it like never before, and have an amazing school year!

PS. Folica is a great resource not just for purchasing tools and hair care products, but hair inspirations, glam guide and latest news from the beauty world!

PPS. I also have a fun announcement! Next Monday Rachel of Rachel’s Lookbook, Jewel of Style Optimist and yours truly are starting a hot new trendy link up for all you style, fashion and beauty bloggers out there! Stay tuned for more info! Psssst – there will be a giveaway too!

Post Commencement

I don’t know where to begin. Commencement was incredible, the parties before and after commencement were amazing, and now I have a month off before I have to take my last class at the University of Minnesota. Yes, I am one of those people who walked before actually being done 😉 So before ACCT 2050 kicks my butt this summer I wanted to share a couple thoughts and reflections on the time I spent in college, as an almost 30 year old!

  1. You can do it! You can take 23 credits a semester and survive if you want to. You can go back to school after having another degree. You can fit in, make friends, have fun. It’s just all up to you. Don’t give in to the outside noise, stick to your path, your plan, and your goal. There will be a lot of bullshit on the way, but you just need to make it through that!
  2. Be assertive when it comes to everything!
  3. Stand up for yourself. And if an angry email doesn’t work, that’s what student conflict resolution center is for.
  4. Graduation day is like a wedding day, you spend all this time preparing for it, living it, and when it’s over, you realize it’s just the beginning. And just like anything in this world, life after graduation takes a lot of work, determination and a little help from your friends!

College was everything I ever hoped for it to be and more. I am glad I have one more class to take this summer, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to be honest.

Welcome February. It is my least favorite month of the year, good thing it’s a short one, right?

About a week and a half ago I got to visit Heather at Bella on the Bay in Excelsior. Out of all small towns around Lake Minnetonka Excelsior is by far my favorite, and now I get to go there to get my hair done, that is until I move to Wisconsin 😉 but even afterwards I will probably schedule my hair appointments around my trips back to Minnesota. To make a long story short, she did an amazing job with my balayage and I can’t wait to go back for my haircut at the end of the month.

It’s so nice to have a friend at school who will take pictures for you. My friend McCall joined the College Fashionista team, and we got to take some pictures last week between classes. And it has somehow worked out that McCall and I are taking most of our classes together this semester. So much for the U being a big school. Here is to 23 credits my friends!

School and Things

School started. You know when I was a kid I used to know all the car models and manufacturers. And then I fell out of the loop. Well, I am back to it now, the knowing I mean. Daily commutes contribute to that. And as excited as I am about my senior year, I am sad. Maybe I’ve been listening to too much Radiohead lately, but the unknown scares me, kind of. Sam has been extremely supportive and told me to take as long as I need to find that dream job after I graduate. So I am not really worried about that, I guess it’s more excitement that keeps me up at night.

I am at 18 credits this semester, one being an empty internship credit that I fulfilled over the summer. But I am taking Merchandising Math, Retail Promotions, Stats, Management and Introduction to Entrepreneurship, which may be my favorite class.

So between classes, “work”, and walking Mason, I also try to find time to keep my house together and not ditch all of my friends.

Meanwhile, catch me on Instagram.

Floral Fall Trend

Blogging is an interesting and weird thing. We go online, write a post, upload some photos, create a SEO title and put in some keywords. Then we share it on social media. Sometimes we share a lot, sometimes way too much. But then you meet people who share your interests and passions, you make friends, you attend events. And somehow in the end it all makes sense, so we keep doing it.

And while you are contemplating your existence now, I am sharing my favorite part about transitional seasons – fall floral trend, that is until the first snow falls.

Sam and I had an incredible 4 day weekend. Thursday we went to campus, and oh my goodness how I missed it! We went to all three campuses, took the connector to St Paul, because I wanted Sam to see my campus, and because I wanted to go to Lori’s for coffee.

It definitely feels good to be a senior, but the realization hasn’t hit me yet. I love school, being on campus (even though I don’t live on campus) and seeing my friends. And I know it will be hard for me to leave, but I’m going to enjoy my last year to the fullest.

This semester I’ll be busy with 18 credits, and two internships, I’m staying with Verizon for a while, as well as continuing my Style Guru escapades with CollegeFashionista. This semester I will also be a social media inter at CF, so keep an eye out for all the awesome #stylegurulove posts on my Instagram.

Peace!

Full skirts and fuzzy socks

Monday. I have a story for you. After spending about an hour and a half studying at Wilson library and talking to my mom and uncle on Skype, I started packing up my stuff to go to my Psych lecture. And I put my notebook in my laptop case. It took me a minute to realize what I’ve done!

Even though I have a lot going on this week, I’m excited to tackle it all down.

Today’s look is not on me, it’s on the floor, and it would’ve been perfect for tomorrow because it’s all grey, but I had several guys hold the doors open for me, so I did something right with this look!

Also, Mason says hi! Look who is the king of the castle now 😉

PS. It was a rainy day today and just like thousands of other girls at the University of Minnesota I put mine on over my fuzzy socks. If I am wearing rubber on my feet, I might as well be comfy cozy!

Azura, Avett Brothers T-shirt and Accessories

Three things that begin with A! Three things that I managed to wear today!

I have recently gotten some new rash guards at the boutique where I work. You know why? They are perfect for working out, running, and all, and they have a built in SPF! Call me crazy but I wore one to class today. I love the bright colors of this Azura top and the geometric pattern. It looked amazing over my Avett Brothers T-shirt and my distressed boyfriend jeans. It was really windy in Minneapolis today, and at some point I thought the wind will pick me up and drop me off at OZ! I also have a ton of little tiny gravel rocks in my hair, and there was one in my eyebrow! Go figure!

Being Zhenya

ZhenyaHutsonBeingZhenya

I have been thinking about writing this post all day yesterday. What am I going to say, how I am going to phrase it, and then decided to just let the words come out as I start typing.

I feel like blogging has become a major business and a money making industry. I feel and I know that Being Zhenya has become a collection of sponsored posts. I know I didn’t lose my voice, I just stopped expressing myself. I let the pictures substitute the words, and the posts became short paragraphs usually ending with an exclamation point. Real life isn’t always like that is it?

So I decided to make this blog more of a journal. The last giveaway I did I asked for some feedback, and I did it for a reason. I wanted to know what interests you the most. And you wanted to see more lifestyle posts, hear more tips and advice on style and accessories. I appreciate this feedback more than anything.

What does it mean for you? Sam will probably get mentioned in my posts a little more, as well as some of my friends. I will also talk about college, because that’s where I am at right now. The style posts will still come, as well as the beauty ones. I will also write more, and go on about my life. I want to make it personal again and I want to be able to talk to you.

On Wednesday one of my readers, Monica, came up to me at the U. She recognized me from my blog. And it was the highlight of my day! She was the sweetest person to talk to. And one of the first questions she asked me was if I still thrifted. Of course, I told her. I just don’t post about it as much. But I am bringing the hauls back 🙂 We will also be relaunching Thrift Style Thursday in a slightly different format in January 2015, so if you want to join in the fun, let me know and we’ll get you started with us!

I have a lot of fun ideas for 2015, and I can’t wait to start this new journey with you all!

Beauty Brunch: Happy Legs with Skintimate

Disclosure: “I made my legs happy with Skintimate as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #SkintimateStars” All opinions are my own.

#SkintimateStarsBeingZhenya

This fall I have taken on a new challenge – college! I am following my dream, my passion, my calling. Confidence is key, and there are days when I don’t have it, but then there are days when I am ready to take over the world. Dresses and boots have become my go-to look, my uniform of sorts. I am always out and about between the three campuses, and for some reason dresses work very well for me. Maybe it’s the ease of it, maybe it’s the fact that a dress is an outfit of it’s own. But when I get up in the morning it’s almost like BAM and I am ready for the day! Plus all the awesome superhero women always wear dresses and boots, so my outfits make me feel kick ass!

But my goal is to not only look good, but feel good as well. So I make sure I take care of my skin and make my legs happy. A couple weeks ago I switched to Skintimate Skin Therapy lotionized shave gels. Because let’s be honest, Minnesota winter isn’t here yet, and I still have time to show some leg.
