Crazy Color-block Cocktails

colorblock dress colorblock-dress-thrift-style-thursday cocktail-dress-look

Are you ready to go out with me? It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be funky, it’s going to be crazy! It’s spring, and there are so many beautiful colors in the palette! I love this dress for it’s straight lines, and color combo. It’s an amazing piece that’s perfect for spring and summer. And you never know, there might be some dancing involved, after those cocktails!

I am wearing: Dress: 10 Dollar Mall ~ Shoes: Target ~ Jacket: Vintage thrifted ~Glasses: thrifted

Last week I had an opportunity to do a photo shoot at a local boutique (Dji G’s Boutique) in Northeast Minneapolis. Here is a little behind the scenes for you. And of course I will share pictures once they are ready.

I know it’s been crazy with A to Z challenge, and all my outfit photos. Plus the local fashion events are popping up left and right and I love covering those! Hopefully things will slow down in May. I do have some exciting tech posts coming up. I am getting an Intel Tablet here soon, and can’t wait to share my experience with you! But enough about me, how have you all been?

Pastels

From prom dresses to NYFW runway, pastels have taken over trend lists on major fashion magazines, websites and blogs. I am no exception. And even though neutrals will always be my first love, pastels are now borderline obsession in my wardrobe and makeup bag at the moment.

Pastel-Coat-Outfit

Pastels-Trend-2014

I will be honest, the coat and the purse are not thrifted. I got the coat from SheInside.com through their blogger program and I immediately knew it would be perfect for this post. It did though come with two biggest ugliest black snaps that I’ve ever seen. Those were the first ones to go. Then I cut off the tag, no one would be able to read and sound out what the brand was called anyways. I never had much luck ordering from Chinese websites, even when it was sent to me for free. But this coat is a keeper. Though I am kind of anxious to see what’s going to happen to it in the wash.

My olive/beige purse came from Madewell store at the Mall of America. I popped in after Macy’s Prom Fashion Show, and just couldn’t leave without it. The bag is reversible, made out of vegan leather (and it’s actually Free People), and comes with an oversized clutch and a small key pouch. All that for $69 + tax. I was hooked.

Everything else is thrifted though. I promise.

Are you following trends? If so, what do you think of pastels? Are you incorporating them into your wardrobe?

That Gatsby Girl {Thrift Style Thursday}

The Oscar’s have come and gone, and it only makes sense to create a movie inspired look for today’s Thrift Style Thursday post (and a list of movies to watch in my free time)!

As you may have guessed from the title, I went with the 20′s theme so well portrayed in The Great Gatsby. Something about that era was always dear to my heart, maybe it’s the style, or the beauty, or the fact that it’s almost surreal, realizing how long ago everything took place… I love history, and culture, ambition and the role of women in that society. I love their outlook on life and how they couldn’t care less whether they carried their device chargers with them, because there were no goddamn devices back then. It seems like life was a lot easier, but a lot more complicated for us, people of the 21st century.

I decided on this black dress because the bottom ruffles remind me of the flapper girls’ style, the shoes have a chunky heel, just like they did in the 20′s. I am probably wearing too much bracelets making this look a tad bit costume-y. My headband is from The Annex, and the clutch is vintage.

If you were to create a movie/movie character inspired outfit who would it be?

Please check out other looks, and I hope we’ll inspire you to get out of your comfort zone and look for ideas in unusual places!

Shopping ReSale 101 + $25 Gift Card Giveaway

2014-02-09 19.30.56

When it comes to shopping, I am all about thrifting. When it comes to thrifting I stick to my tried and true stores. But every once in a while I make an exception, and go somewhere out of my way, somewhere like ReSale 101.

Located at 1605 County Rd 101 N in Plymouth, the store is only 15 minutes away from my house. The store is an extension of IOCP and is a unique place where the community can shop, donate, and volunteer—all to support IOCP’s families and programs.

I was so happy that my friend and co-worker Cassie came along. I loved every single one of her finds, especially the grey turtleneck, which I am also a little jealous of ;)

Inside the store is extremely spacious and roomy, the racks aren’t overstuffed, the clothing, and shoes are divided by sizes. Purses get a real display. And the vintage section is simply beautiful.

If “50 shades of grey” and song “If I were a boy” had a love child, that would be this outfit!

I’ve been on a grey craze lately. But when you feel the softness of this cashmere scarf, and the warmth of the vintage wool blazer, and realize the coolness of the DIY beanie, it all falls in place and the world is at peace.

Meanwhile inside the house, I’ve been working on adding to the decor. I finally framed this gorgeous print by Rebecca Plotnik.

20140126-202540.jpg

Having been in search for inner peace, I have realized that I am often stressed and irritated in my own home. I’m putting a stop to that and cutting off anyone and everyone who is bringing stress into my life.

20140126-202317.jpg

My love for coffee is obvious and never ending, and it only made sense to combine it with my other passion – social media. Sunday afternoon I got together with Lindsey of Mavatar, to talk Blogging, Shopping, Styling and Olympics! Uncommon Grounds on Hennepin and 28th is one of my favorite places, and I love meeting all of you, my social media friends! So if you are ever in town, don’t hesitate to tweet me!

Back to Basics: Black

2014-01-04 22.49.33

One of my goals for 2014 is investing into timeless pieces, that won’t go out of style. And black is one of my go-to colors. I guess it all started with my retail job back a few years ago, when I had no choice, but wear it. My New York trip wouldn’t have been complete without some thrifting! I got this Talbots black dress on the Upper East Side at the Arthritis Foundation thrift store (1430 3rd ave) at 75%! And as far as timeless, I think it goes!

What is it about a purse that a woman loves? Loves so much that she can never have enough of them? I am one of those women. Call me fashionista, call me hoarder, but when Philip Lim’s collection for Target launched, I was there in line, and went home with 3 purses. Yes, that’s me. My collection keeps growing, in spite of the small closet space. It keeps growing in spite of the fact that I know I don’t need any more bags. It keeps growing…

But there is nothing, I repeat nothing, that compares to the thrill and the joy of a designer, quality, leather thrifted purse. And that’s my brown coach bag right here for you. And that’s why my collection keeps growing! Thrift stores are full of amazing stylish chic purses that will complete your every outfit! Check them out!

My dress is Old Navy, boots are Mexx, bag is Coach, and a hand-knit thrifted sweater, leather gloves from Marshalls.

Make sure to look through other girls’ posts below! And keep spreading thrifted love!
