Train Ride

2014-08-18 14.55.48

Last Friday we took a train to St Paul. The green line has been up for a couple months now, and that’s the train I’ll be taking to the U every day for the next two years of my life, so I was more than excited to check it out.

Why were we headed to St Paul? To check out Mickey’s Diner. If you’ve seen Mighty Ducks, you know what I’m talking about.

The diner, the food and the downtown St Paul are definitely charming, and small. I fell in like. I am glad you are only a train ride away now, St Paul.

Oh no! My only mesh shirt is in Minnesota while I’m still in Colorado! I am driving home today but hate to miss a great Thrift Style Thursday! So here are some pics from my vacation! And I will post a mesh outfit soon! I’m sure the girls came up with something amazing this week!

August starts tomorrow! What???? Can you believe it? Only 4 more weeks before school starts! But let’s take advantage of the sunny days, play outdoors and have fun. I want to invite you to join #ThriftStyleAugust Instagram challenge. The rules are simple: follow the prompts for each day and make sure to use the hashtag! And you don’t have to post every day if you can’t! Also, as you may have noticed all the Thursday prompts match our Thrift Style Thursday themes.

Replacement

jcrew-chambray-shirt denim-on-denim-shorts

We often replace things in life. And this time, I had to replace my chambray shirt, that I wore out in about 2 years. It’s hard to part with an item that has been there for you when you didn’t know what to wear. It’s hard to find a replacement. I finally understand people who buy several different shirts or tops of the same kind, maybe in different colors, but, you get the idea. Last week during my thrifting escapades I found this JCrew chambray shirt, and, there it was – my new chambray.

I also went and got balayage done last Saturday. This time around Charlie did an even better job, and it didn’t take me too long to realize that I am not a highlights person. But a balayage is right up my alley. Having my hair bleached definitely helps wash it less over the summer, because it doesn’t get greasy as fast. Another lesson I learned is that I probably shouldn’t go 4 months between the appointments.

Happy Monday!

Weekly Wear June 21

Having totally skipped on weekly wear last week (we were on our way to Milwaukee), I am trying to redeem myself today. I love showing off what I wore on a daily/weekly basis. It not only  provides you with a snippet of what I look like in my daily life, but gives a round up of sorts. So here is what I’ve been wearing this week:

Monday: The dress I got from Katelyn at the Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar

charming-charlies-dress

Tuesday: Moddeals cut off neon shorts, fringe shoes and floral top

neon-cut-offs-floral-top

Wednesday: Seahorse dress

Thursday: I had a really cute look for you, but didn’t change when I started cooking at home, and got the button down all greasy! Keeping my fingers crossed I can still get it out. If you know any good ways of getting oil stains out, do tell!

Friday: Moddeals camp pants (the worst pants ever!), Land’s End top and three necklaces. You can come take layering lessons from me now ;)

I am also switching up my hair care for the summer. I have a hair appointment today at 10 am for another balayage, and want my hair to be as healthy as it can. So I am going with Cleansing Conditioner. This was the only one I could find at Target last night that was for my hair type. It’s also under $5! So win! I’ll let you know how it works, and whether I like it over the traditional shampoo/conditioner combo.

And finally, on the way home last night,

So here you have it! My week! I also only have about 6 weeks left at my current job, and then college, here I come! I am super excited!

Have a great weekend!

6 Wardrobe Basics

We are all different and we are all individuals, so instead of posting about how many silk button downs and plain white tees you may need in your wardrobe, I am going to share what I think are my wardrobe basics, my staples, if you want to put it this way. After all, there are a few things in my closet I reach for before I reach for anything else. And those are the items that also get replaced if/when worn out.

1. Chambray shirt

2. Denim (in all shapes and forms)

3. Dresses (many, many dresses)

4. Leather jacket (because that’s a perfect layering piece)

5. Animal print (because that’s a neutral)

In search of the evening light last night, I came to realize, that blogging for me has become a self-expression, a form of finding myself. I am going through a vintage stage again. And I think this time around it’s here to stay for a little while longer.

This dress is everything. It’s flirty, fun, chic, boho, cute, quirky. I had to have it. I had to wear it. And then the cowboy boots, that Midwest mark, even though I bought them in New York. And the city of Milan printed tights. And that purple Ted Baker bag that was the very first giveaway that I won. A lot of my clothes tell a story. What story do your clothes tell about you?

Animal Action {Thrift Style Thursday}

Animal print is one of my favorite. Of course in moderation. But sometimes you need to go all out with an outfit. So here you go. Overalls, and animal print, and a 100% thrifted outfit. From the shoes, to the shirt, to the coat. I simply had to. And, of course, my husband hates it. And, yes, it is raining in these pictures.

Boho Chic {Thrift Style Thursday}

Boho-chic-skinny-jeans skinny-jeans-boho-chic-look boho-chic-backpack

You don’t have to wear a skirt to be a hippie, or to style a boho chic look. I was originally going to wear a maxi dress for the post, but decided to go with this look. And yes, you can wear skinny jeans and pull boho chic off!

My favorite part about this outfit is definitely this London Fog backpack. I got it from Empty the Nest, and it was one of those rare brand new vintage items, all the buckles were still wrapped in tissue paper. I also got a pretty good deal on it, they lowered the price for me from $40 to $15. If you live in the Twin Cities area, Empty  the Nest is one of those must see places, that sells vintage and used items. A lot of their stock is furniture, and housewares, but you can get amazing vintage pieces if you are there at the right time. And I have to mention their $5 bag sale, similar to Housing Works Buy The Bag events, this is something you don’t want to miss. Let me know if you go there or have already been! What did you think?

My boots, sweater and scarf are from different Goodwill locations through out the metro, the boots are Talbots, so that’s almost like vintage, right? The sweater originally was a turtle neck, but i cut it off to make this crew neckline. It was a very quick and easy fix with my crochet hook.

The jeans are from Salvation Army, and unfortunately they will probably have to go pretty soon here. But I am wearing them till their last dying breath.

How would you style a boho chic look with skinny jeans?
