What does $25 Get you at the Goodwill? And Wild Horses OOTD!

2013-04-21 18.48.30

Last Saturday I got to stop by at one of the Goodwills I rarely go to – the Goodwill in Stillwater! I will tell you right away, that this place is pricey, especially if you compare it to the one in Hopkins! But I was still able to score some amazing finds:

2013-04-20 14.01.43-2

Horse poncho – $9.99

Suede a.n.a. boots – $9.99

Two pairs of tights from Target – $0.99 each

Benefit Dandelion Blush – $1.99 – Yes, I bought makeup at a thrift shop, but in my defense – it was all packaged, sealed and blush makeup has a very long shelf life! More over I think it would’ve been a crime to walk past it and not get it, since this blush retails for $28!

I think I was really excited for everything but the tights. The tights were more of a necessity! But I love my poncho and the boots to death! I would sleep in those boots if I could! And the poncho too, yes, most definitely!

What does $25 get you at your local Goodwill?

Happy Hump Day! The week is almost over!

Thrifting for Treasure: My Latest Steeple People Thrift Haul

Steeple People will probably be my favorite, number one, go to store when it comes to a thrifting quickie! It’s only 10 minutes away from my house (WALKING!), the prices are incredibly reasonable, and there is always a great chance of scoring something vintage! They also carry fabrics, which is what I was looking for!

I ended up walking away with a bag full of stuff, which included Corso Como boots, a vintage dress, and 3 pieces of fabric, one of which has already been transformed into something amazing!

Here are the fabrics:

50 cents of wool

2012-12-02 16.51.55

$3 of black and navy blue fabrics ($1.50 each, though the navy blue one has more yards!)

A $6 pair of Corso Como black leather boots! I wasn’t going to get them, but after looking the brand up on my phone (another reason to have a smart phone when thrifting!) and seeing how much those would’ve cost me at Nordstrom, I couldn’t put them down!

And finally a $2 100% silk Anne Crimmins for Umi Collections dress (it will be featured in one of my upcoming refashion posts), and I am already putting together outfits featuring this dress in my head :)

That’s all I got! What did you like/dislike from my haul? Did you go thrifting this weekend? If so, what did you get! Please leave links below :)

Have a great Tuesday!

Twin Cities Thrift Stores Review: Unique Thrift Store in New Hope

This series of posts is long overdue. Ever since I moved to Minneapolis I’ve been doing nothing but researching new thrift stores to go to. I do have a couple of favorites, but there is always more to be added on to the list.

Today I went to Unique Thrift Store in New Hope. I heard about it from a coworker, who said it was in Crystal, well Crystal, New Hope, Robbinsdale – it’s all the same to me :) I hope I don’t offend any of the residents of the suburbs mentioned above!

Now I took a few pics inside the store, but totally forgot to take some of the outside, so here is one taken off of their website!

Now that place is huge! Compared to everywhere else I’ve been in the Twin Cities so far, the only place that possibly compares is Savers on Lake St. As a DIYer and a crafter I was pleasantly surprised by the selection, they had sewing patterns, beads, zippers, yarn, and all the other goodies you can dream of. Those are hard to find at Goodwill or Salvation Army. I even got some fabric!

The purse selection is also great! But the good brands are priced high, even if the purse is a complete disaster :/

I initially went to Unique looking for black maxi skirts for work! Well I found a couple that I liked, tried them on, and was sort of disappointed, but then I looked at the dresses, and was able to find two that I liked, and that would be perfect for work for the summer and into the fall!

I wasn’t exactly impressed with the home goods section, there was no order or organization whatsoever, toys and pots and glassware, all mixed on the long shelves! There were a lot of things though, so that’s good! The more variety, the better.

The furniture selection is very good compared to other places, as well as jewelry, there are so many chachkies there, that I decided to leave before I spent a ridiculous amount of money on them all!

Prices are quiet odd though, some items are priced reasonably low, but some are overpriced, like that black Coach bag in one of the pictures above, that I think was $39.99 I remember getting my mother-in-law a brand new one at Salvation Army for $34.99

Shoes are on top of the clothing racks, just like at Plato’s closet! That sort of arrangement only works when the shoes are arranged according to size, and the sizes are posted where everyone can see them, which I unfortunately didn’t notice here.

Overall I was greatly impressed with this store, plus they do a Customer appreciation day every Tuesday, so you can get 25% off on all of your purchases (and who doesn’t like savings?). There are more reviews on yelp if you are interested, or dissatisfied with mine :P

And finally, here is what I got

Black maxi dresses, so now I can be 100% accepted into the nunnery of Clinique ;)

And some fabric, the blue is so so much more vibrant than what the picture shows

I hope you all enjoyed this review, I promise I will have more in the next couple of weeks!

Happy Thrifting,

Z

Highs and Lows of the Week

Another week flew by. I noticed how faster the time flies now that I am married. It’s been almost 3 months since I made the BIG move back to the States. Almost 2 months since I’ve been married. Wow, no one ever told me I’d better capture every days memories. I guess one day I’m going to wake up, and I’ll be 30! But isn’t it the age to be?

Anyways, the highlights of the week have been:

1. Getting into the Links a la mod round up on IFB (that’s for Independent Fashion Bloggers – if you didn’t know!)

2. The release of the new iPhone 4S, which I will be getting very soon!

3. My great finds at the warehouse district Salvation Army!

4. TAZO tea, especially it being on sale at Target, and the available coupons, making it really really cheap and worth stocking up on!

5. Tresemme dry shampoo! That has been a life saver! For a someone who has a habit of taking evening showers, this product has been a miracle! It keeps my hair looking clean throughout the day, lasting through the evening! Love it!

Now on to the lows of the week:

1. Death of Steve Jobs

At least there are loving jokes going around Internet about him, and we know he definitely got into Heaven after reading this one!

2. Kate Middleton turning down Vogue cover.

This has been a total bummer for thousands of fashionistas around the world, but she did it, the Duchess of Cambridge declined this offer.

Good thing is, I look so much like her on my new DL, so if Vogue needs a dupe – I’ll do it! Just give me really HIGH heels ;)

Xo,

Z

Thrifting for Treasure: Weekend Edition

Thrifting is just as fun when you do it over the weekend, and when you do it with your husband.

In the morning Sam and I drove to Eden Prairie to pick up a console table that I was able to track down through our local Minneapolis group. The table was something that I wanted for a long while. Even though Sam moved into this apartment in July, it is still pretty empty. And I have to admit, I didn’t dive into home decorating right away. My reasoning was the following – decorate when you really need something and when it’s a good deal!

And what can be better than FREE? So here it is – my new “used” console table!

It’s a Weiman table from the Rockwood Collection, which makes it even more special! See, someone’s trash (clutter in our case) can definitely turn into a treasure. The woman, who gave me this table said that her husband is a hoarder, but if he doesn’t see something, he won’t miss it. So this is how this table became one of the highlights of my weekend!

Now you probably noticed the bag on top of the table. That is there for a reason! This was my other treasure thrift find this week, and to imagine that I only paid $3. This is a Pourchet bag, if you don’t know what this brand is, I highly recommend checking out their website http://www.pourchet-paris.com/!

I hope you had a fun day today. I spent most of it in the Mall of America, where did you spend yours?
