This is probably the most fun and exciting giveaway I have ever participated in! You get to win a fully thrifted outfit from Beth and I. We have recently had a Thrift Style Thursday swap, where all members of the group were paired up and got to send, or in our case, give each other goodies in person. And since it was so much fun thrifting for another person, we decided to pass on the Gift of Thrift to 4 other people! And that’s where you come in! We would love to gift you a fully thrifted outfit, and in our case, since Beth and I both live in the Twin Cities area, if you are from the area, you get to go thrifting with us, and we will style you! And probably take you out for lunch or coffee too!

I will add pictures of what Beth thrifted for me a little bit later today. This Friday is a super exciting day for Sam and I, and if you follow me on Instagram, you will probably find out soon enough ūüėČ

My friend Jameson of Lessons with Coffee is having a garage sale this weekend. It’s absolutely amazing! shopped it last night and had a blast. Honestly this post wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for that garage sale.

I bought the metallic Ann Taylor skirt, and the vintage pink top I am wearing in the first look there (among other things  of course!)

I’ve also noticed the tendency to post two looks on Thrift Style Thursdays. It might be a coincidence, but let me know if you like it, and I’ll keep styling one item in different ways.

Also, exciting news Thrift Style Thursday now has it’s own Facebook page! So join in!

Happy weekend early everyone! I am off to Colorado tomorrow! Yay road trip!

Pastels

From prom dresses to NYFW runway, pastels have taken over trend lists on major fashion magazines, websites and blogs. I am no exception. And even though neutrals will always be my first love, pastels are now borderline obsession in my wardrobe and makeup bag at the moment.

Pastel-Coat-Outfit

Pastels-Trend-2014

I will be honest, the coat and the purse are not thrifted. I got the coat from SheInside.com through their blogger program and I immediately knew it would be perfect for this post. It did though come with two biggest ugliest black snaps that I’ve ever seen. Those were the first ones to go. Then I cut off the tag, no one would be able to read and sound out what the brand was called anyways. I never had much luck ordering from Chinese websites, even when it was sent to me for free. But this coat is a keeper. Though I am kind of¬†anxious to see what’s going to happen to it in the wash.¬†

My olive/beige purse came from Madewell store at the Mall of America. I popped in after Macy’s Prom Fashion Show, and just couldn’t leave without it. The bag is reversible, made out of vegan leather (and it’s actually Free People), and comes with an oversized clutch and a small key pouch. All that for $69 + tax. I was hooked.¬†

Everything else is thrifted though. I promise.

Are you following trends? If so, what do you think of pastels? Are you incorporating them into your wardrobe?

Spring Casual {Thrift Style Thursday}

Express jeans – thrifted, Converse – TJ Maxx, Pink Clutch – Clothes Mentor Minnetonka, Black top – thrifted, White sweater – thrifted, Floral scarf – thrifted, Black leather jacket – TJ Maxx

Thrift style is affordable, fun and unique. Today’s thrift style thursday is all about a casual, laid back look. And this is what you might spot me wearing on a warm (40F) spring day here in Minneapolis.

Even though spring is still far away from becoming a reality, the snow is melting, and so is my snow phobia. I am not kidding you guys, I thought I was being suffocated by snow banks. Backing out of the driveway was the most dangerous venture I’ve been on since college. And snow dams were nothing out of the ordinary. Plus I am still expecting mother nature (aka winter) to strike back!

Layering-for-spring-thrift-style

But I can literally smell spring coming, everything is melting, and my wardrobe is waiting in anticipation for the warmth. I love styling for spring, as much as I love styling for fall, even a little bit more. Spring to me means summer is just around the corner, and that’s sailing, beaches, friends, and fun.

Styling for spring can be a bit of a challenge though, and I do recommend sticking to layers, especially during those cold weeks of march/april. Here I have a black silk top, under a white silk sweater. My black leather jacket is another perfect spring accessory I am stealing from my fall wardrobe. I added the floral scarf for fun, and trends. Florals are always in.

The jeans, even though they look like boyfriends, are actually skinny, with some natural wear and tear. I rolled them up, because there is nothing wrong with showing off a bit of skin.

Finally bright bold accessories, like this neon pink clutch, and pink Converse are my must haves!

That Gatsby Girl {Thrift Style Thursday}

The Oscar’s have come and gone, and it only makes sense to create a movie inspired look for today’s Thrift Style Thursday post (and a list of movies to watch in my free time)!

As you may have guessed from the title, I went with the 20’s theme so well portrayed in The Great Gatsby. Something about that era was always dear to my heart, maybe it’s the style, or the beauty, or the fact that it’s almost surreal, realizing how long ago everything took place… I love history, and culture, ambition and the role of women in that society. I love their outlook on life and how they couldn’t care less whether they carried their device chargers with them, because there were no goddamn devices back then. It seems like life was a lot easier, but a lot more complicated for us, people of the 21st century.¬†

1920-inspired

I decided on this black dress because the bottom ruffles remind me of the flapper girls’ style, the shoes have a chunky heel, just like they did in the 20’s. I am probably wearing too much bracelets making this look a tad bit costume-y. My headband is from The Annex, and the clutch is vintage.

If you were to create a movie/movie character inspired outfit who would it be?

Please check out other looks, and I hope we’ll inspire you to get out of your comfort zone and look for ideas in unusual places!

Radiant Orchid {Thrift Style Thursday}

The number one perk of this color is that wearing it, no one will take you for a wall flower. Not that it’s my problem anyways. I like to stand out. Though last week, during my stay in New York, I was more or less blending in. I will share more about that later. Here is my thought. Whatever makes you happy, whatever makes you smile, wear that! I love this thrifted top, it was brand new when I bought it last year (isn’t that amazing how I can say last year even though it was only a few days ago?) and even though it’s more purple than radiant orchid, who sets the rules anyways?
