Everyone knows that these days it’s the baggier the better, to a certain extent of course! When I put something oversized on top, I make sure to go skinny on the bottom, and this is how it usually turns out:
Top – Old Navy size M (it’s HUGE!) but since it was bought on sale for a ridiculously small amount of money, and they didn’t have size S anywhere, I got it. It’s comfy and soft, almost at the point where I want to wear it around the house with a pair of sweats, but am fighting this urge!
Jeans – X2 Denim by Express, thrifted at Savers, $8
Scarf – Christmas gift from a few years ago
Floral necklace – Gofavor.com, that necklace was ordered for about $4 back in the day when I went through – Let’s order as much cheap crap costume jewelry from China as I can. If I could, I would return every single product I ordered there, because… well you see the crossed out word above! The metal is so cheap it fades away after 2 or 3 uses. This necklace has been kind of okay, but I don’t want to jinx it here! So I’ll keep wearing it out and about, and maybe later you’ll see it in one of my DIY projects!
Boots – Christmas gift from Sam <3
And of course my Marc Jacobs Watch! I have to wear it, everyday, yes, that’s how much I like that watch!
On the other note, winter isn’t going anywhere here in Minneapolis. After a snow thunderstorm last Thursday I am hopeless, on the verge of depression, someone please help! At least this blog is becoming more bright and colorful, I’ve finally figured out how to create a row of social media icons on my blog, yay me
In other news, I have a lot of DIY projects coming up for you dear readers, so stay tuned!
Love,
Z
PS. Did you notice I am not wearing any make-up in this picture?
I love Savers! Wait, I don’t think some of you heard me
I LOVE SAVERS!
Now that’s better. Savers was the only thrift store that offered 50% off on Sunday before President’s Day! Take that all the rest. Well of course you had to have the club card, but it’s free to sign up for one, and you all should go do it!
So here is all I got:
Chico’s Jacket Size 0 – $6
Chico’s top size 2 – $4
NY & Co Top Size S – $3
Nine West Vintage America top Size M- $4
B’leev cardigan – $3
X2 Skinny Jeans Size 1 – $7.50
I have to admit, I did stop by Goodwill last Saturday, and got an amazing semi-precious stone necklace and a curtain! Curtain? Yes, I have a refashion coming up featuring that curtain So stay tuned!
And don’t forget to enter my Giveaway! I have also joined Smashion, and Etsy profile is coming in the nearest future as well! Don’t miss out on all of the Being Zhenya updates, stay connected via Facebook and Twitter!

Last Saturday I had an awesome opportunity to see what a personal shopper does, but not just any personal shopper, the one at a thrift store! Yes, those exist, and Michelle from Arc’s Value Village, was kind enough to let me shadow her for 3 whole hours.
Michelle and I connected over Twitter several months ago, neither of us could remember who tweeted who first! But I knew I wanted to meet her, and was extremely interested in what she does.
About a year and a half ago Michelle had the idea of adding a Personal Shopper service to Arc’s Value Village thrift store. And what originated as an idea in the middle of the night, has now turned into her full time job! And just to let you know how popular the service is, Michelle is booked through May! And don’t forget that it’s 100% FREE service, you only pay for what you purchase! I think it’s a wonderful option for those, who want to thrift shop, but don’t know where to begin, or for those who are too busy to spend hours at a store.
I came in at about 11 am to the Richfield location, so I caught Michelle during her prep time, and then stayed for an entire appointment.
And this is how it works: the client books an appointment through a schedule system on Arc’s website, fills out a form, telling the stylist a few things about themselves, their style, what they are looking for, favorite colors, sizes, preferences, etc. And the stylist puts together 5-10 outfits, as well as offers some single pieces, accessories and shoes. Then, during the 75 minute appointment, the client gets to try everything on, the stylist gives advice, makes sure everything fits, pulls out extra items off the racks if some sizes are off. It’s also time to get to know the customer, take additional notes, and of course, give compliments!
It was everything I expected it to be and more. A creative positive environment, where you meet new people and help them look their best.
I also got to help Michelle dress some mannequins and fix a couple broken items
Today we are going to frame a doily and hang it up on the wall, so it looks like this:
I saw this idea in one of my sewing books. And immediately decided to bring it to life. Of course it took me about a month and a half to find the right frame, but in the end, here it is, my $3 wall art!
You are going to start off by getting all supplies ready! All you really need is a frame and a doily, plus some construction paper if you want to change up the background. Now don’t worry if you can’t crochet, there are plenty of doilies you can purchase for cheap at a thrift store. I chose to make mine, because, well I can, and it gave me more options!
As you can see, I ended up with a different doily than what I framed at first. I had a last minute change of heart. The doily I originally made didn’t look as good!
And there you have it, our quick and easy DIY! It’s always good to add something new to the walls, don’t you think?
Have a wonderful week everyone!
Z

Last Saturday our family had an early Christmas celebration, opening presents, a great dinner, taking family photos by the tree after too many glasses of champagne… The whole 9 yards!
I also got Sam to take a few shots of me, and give or take, my husband is a great photographer! So here we go, my outfit of the day!
Boots: Corso Como $6 – Steeple People
Dress: Anthropologie – $15 – Clothes Mentor
Scarf: Thirfted back in my NYC days
Cardigan: Mossimo $7
So here you have it, my very inexpensive, but fun Christmas outfit! Thrifting will never be substituted by shopping in my world!
Steeple People will probably be my favorite, number one, go to store when it comes to a thrifting quickie! It’s only 10 minutes away from my house (WALKING!), the prices are incredibly reasonable, and there is always a great chance of scoring something vintage! They also carry fabrics, which is what I was looking for!
I ended up walking away with a bag full of stuff, which included Corso Como boots, a vintage dress, and 3 pieces of fabric, one of which has already been transformed into something amazing!
Here are the fabrics:
50 cents of wool
$3 of black and navy blue fabrics ($1.50 each, though the navy blue one has more yards!)
A $6 pair of Corso Como black leather boots! I wasn’t going to get them, but after looking the brand up on my phone (another reason to have a smart phone when thrifting!) and seeing how much those would’ve cost me at Nordstrom, I couldn’t put them down!
And finally a $2 100% silk Anne Crimmins for Umi Collections dress (it will be featured in one of my upcoming refashion posts), and I am already putting together outfits featuring this dress in my head
That’s all I got! What did you like/dislike from my haul? Did you go thrifting this weekend? If so, what did you get! Please leave links below
Hubs and I went to a party on Saturday night, and the theme was Mad Men. I was so so excited to dress 60′s style, well you know how I am! I’m always looking for an excuse to look fancy, especially because I am stuck wearing a uniform of sorts for 5 days a week! A couple weeks ago I posted pics from my thrifting trip to Goodwill in Roseville, and that’s when the finds came in handy! And yes, I was specifically looking for something to wear to that party, and even though I’ve already spilled the beans in that post, here is how it all looked on me
And of course a picture of me in my favorite coat (SPOILER: I scored some awesome coats thrifting yesterday with Megan of Mr.C & Me and Lauren of Our Crazy Ever After - don’t forget to check out their blogs!)
So here is what the entire outfit came down to:
My cardigan (originally HWR) – $2.50
My dress (J.Crew) – $3.50
My necklace and earrings were a gift, I also brought my vintage Etra clutch ($3.99 at Salvation Army, but I got it over a year ago, sorry you can’t really see it in the pictures very well :/)
My coat is that Bitten brand by SJParker (around $30), that ceased to exist back in 2008 when Steve & Barry’s went out of business, and the shoes are from TJ Maxx ($20), I think these last two items were the most expensive ones, but keep in mind the fact that I’ve had this coat for 4 years, and shoes for 2!
And the scarf came from Goodwil Outlet, so I am pretty sure it cost under $1!
So there you have it, my $57 outfit!
I also wanted to give a shout out and mention Influenster one more time, I was able to pin my hair up with the Goody Spin Pins I got in my Blogger Vox Box. It was super fast and easy, and I will definitely use the spin pins again!
Dear everyone,
I think I’d better start writing all of my posts over the weekend and scheduling them to be published during the week, because it was so hard to put down my October issue of Vogue, but my passion for thrifting took over and today I’m sharing yet some more of my awesome finds!
Last Thursday I had an awesome opportunity to go thrifting after corporate orientation for my new job. So I hit up the Minnetonka Goodwill on Wayzata Boulevard and Clothes Mentor, located less than half a mile from the first location!
And here is what I found:
A pair of Cabin Creek shoes for $4.99, leather upper too I love the basket style weaving, and the sole looks barely worn! These shoes were made in Brazil, I remember finding a pair of vintage shoes last year that were made in the same country, so I am starting to wonder about Brazil here
Next I found this cardigan type of sweater ( I gotta find out what exactly those are called, since this doesn’t have buttons or pockets )
And this was $5.99!
I also scored this amazing velvet blazer from The Limited for $6.99. I’m not exactly sure whether I want to keep the tassels on the front, so far they aren’t bothering me, so I’ll let them live! The necklace came from Clothes Mentor, and cost me only $10, keep in mind that this is 4 strands of pink quartz with a Ralph Lauren tag on it
My most expensive purchase of the day was this Levi’s leather jacket, I got it at Clothes Mentor for $32, it was originally $40, but I had a 20% off coupon! I was specifically looking for a leather jacket, and I knew that I was probably gonna have to splurge. Do you think that’s too much for such a purchase or not enough ?
Now I have a funny story about this next piece, and you’ve already heard it if you are my Facebook friend. This is a $6.99 Pure hand knit sweater. So I wore it to work on Friday, and during my lunch break, while walking to see my former coworkers at Macy’s I found 2 Xanax pills in the right pocket
And last, but not least is this vintage Monsoon sweater! That was $5.99 too, I believe
So now here is the big question: what were your most and least favorite pieces? I’m so looking forward to your comments!
Xo,
Zhenya
