I am always looking for new blogs to read and follow. Last week I came across Katie’s thrift haul from http://myclosetnbeautyfinds.wordpress.com! And I immediately wanted to feature on of her finds on my blog, and it was, obviously, a dress!

Katie is a 22 year old college student who loves drugstore makeup, and about 3 months ago she discovered the beauty of thrifting and can’t get enough of it! On her blog she mainly does beauty reviews and thrift hauls, and sometimes just ramble about whatever is on her mind, don’t we all?

She bought this dress from a local consignment shop. But she also told me that she rarely wears dresses. Though I personally think they look great on her!
Katie is a perfect example of a girl who wears dresses only on special occasions, she is more of a jeans and a T kind of girl on a day to day basis, but she, herself said she’d love to get out of her comfort zone and wear more dresses! I hope this project inspires her and a lot of other girls out there to wear more skirts and dresses!
Have a great day everyone and don’t forget to stop by Katie’s blog!

Sweater Story

2013-06-05 21.07.02 (1)

There is nothing like the smell of wet wool! It was a rainy day today in Minneapolis, and I got caught in it while I was on the phone making my next $16 haircut appointment at the Aveda Institute…

This sweater came from Goodwill in Hopkins last Saturday as I was thrifting for something striped for my Refashion Runway contest! It caused a big discussion at work today too! But one thing for sure – it’s one of the most comfortable sweaters you want to wrap around yourself on a day like today, and if this is the route our weather is taking this year, I am sticking to my decision!

What does $25 Get you at the Goodwill? And Wild Horses OOTD!

Last Saturday I got to stop by at one of the Goodwills I rarely go to – the Goodwill in Stillwater! I will tell you right away, that this place is pricey, especially if you compare it to the one in Hopkins! But I was still able to score some amazing finds:

2013-04-20 14.01.43-2

Horse poncho – $9.99

Suede a.n.a. boots – $9.99

Two pairs of tights from Target – $0.99 each

Benefit Dandelion Blush – $1.99 – Yes, I bought makeup at a thrift shop, but in my defense – it was all packaged, sealed and blush makeup has a very long shelf life! More over I think it would’ve been a crime to walk past it and not get it, since this blush retails for $28!

I think I was really excited for everything but the tights. The tights were more of a necessity! But I love my poncho and the boots to death! I would sleep in those boots if I could! And the poncho too, yes, most definitely!

What does $25 get you at your local Goodwill?

Happy Hump Day! The week is almost over!

This weeks Thrift Finds

Today was probably one of the best day’s off I’ve had in months! It started of with breakfast at Helen’s, then some thrift shopping. Then Napoleon’s with Masha, then thrifting, then mall, and another mall and Famous Daves… Well let me back up a little here 🙂

My most favorite store in Uptown Minneapolis – Steeple People is a must see for all thrifters. I have donated to the store a few times myself and today I finally found one of the pairs of shoes that I dropped off! I really hope someone buys them, since they are made out of water proof suede 🙂

Here is what I got:

1. This top…

… because I loved the back so much!

2. This top…

… again for the back 😉

3. This Dress, I just thought it was so very Paul Gauguin:

But it’s really this brand:

According to Sammy Davis’ article “How to date clothing“, the wording “of California” on a garment’s tag indicates that it’s vintage. Now this dress only says “California”, it’s still vintage, just dates back to the 80s, plus from doing some research on line I also found out that this dress comes with a matching fabric belt, which unfortunately didn’t come with mine. But I have other plans for this baby! The only thing I am going to tell you right now is that the hem is definitely going to be shortened. And plus it was kind of screwed up, which also got me $3 off of this item!

So here is a tip – ask for a discount if the item looks damaged or stained. I’ve done it today and I’ve done it before at the Salvation Army!

Then I met up with one of my girlfriends and had this strawberry Napoleon goodness:

Now the latte is totally my girlfriend’s! I had an iced mocha and a mimosa – which felt so good at 3 pm!

Then we hit Clothes Mentor, which is another chain of thrift stores here in the US. They had a 50% off sale, so everything that had a little yello Sale sticker was half-price – best news ever for a thrifter like me!

4. I got this awesome Linen wrap dress:

It came with a spare button too, plus it was designed in France! Best thing ever.

5. And finally my last find – brand new Necessary Objects jacket, also half price, spare button also included:

Another tip about Clothes Mentor – start a card there, every time you buy something there, you’ll get a punch, if you bring a reusable bag – you get another punch! Once you collect 20 punches, you’ll get 20% off of your purchase!

So that’s it for the day, let me know which piece you liked the most, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog to see how I style these pieces!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Upcycling a Thrifted Cardigan

Remember this number?

It came from Goodwill Outlet along with other thrift/vintage finds. When I saw it, I immediately thought of a DIY I could use this for!

I did share some of the crochet pieces that I was working on with you last Friday, and today I am finally ready to reveal the final product! I hope you like it 😉

After I crocheted all the pieces, it was time to put them on the cardigan. Pinning is the best way to go here 🙂

And a better view of the back:

And the front:

I promise to publish a separate outfit post featuring this DIY, as soon as the temperatures here drop below 90 degrees 😉

Thrifting for Treasue

My fellow thrifters, I apologize for going MIA, and not going thrifting. I have a new haul for you. I know, FINALLY!

Steeple People has a sale this week, yes, a CLOTHING SALE – 2 for 1, it’s AMAZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!

Anyways, since one of my friends said that clothes look better on a pretty hanger than on the floor (see my yesterday’s post about the 7 dresses), I am going to put them on a pretty hanger today!

So here is the scoop:

1. Max Studio print dress, looks so much like DVF wrap!

2. Ellen Tracy cardigan!

3. Calvin Klein Jeans!

4. Some asian skirt (sorry I can’t read hieroglyphics!)

5. Fabric! Oh yeah!

Total: $18

Okay so the hanger thing didn’t really work, so there are my clothes on the floor again, all but one dress!

Here are some of the fabrics that I got, and some of the pieces on me – gray jeans, blue jeans, I bet you can’t tell a difference!

xoxo,

ZhenyAH!

Thrifting for Treasure 2

This is a long overdue post about my last weeks trip to Salvation Army in the Warehouse district of Minneapolis. I love that place, what more can I say. Why? Let me show you below!

Here is my $1 Etra clutch (leather too 🙂 )

I absolutely love how it opens up in a diamond shape! Diamonds are a girl’s best friend you know, even if they are just shapes!

Up next is another vintage COACH bag (oh yeah! I lucked out again!) That baby only cost me $4.99

This next item will be a subject of an upcoming post (most likely this week), so stay tuned. It’s 100% wool ivory coat, from Nordstrom, with original tags attached, as well as a spare button! This amazing find was only $3.99 – Welcome to Minnesota, what else can I say ?!

And finally my silk vintage skirt (with pockets) which I wore to our rehearsal dinner, and which cost me only $1.99

This skirt will also be featured in one of my upcoming posts! So stay tuned!

What cool thrift finds did you get last week?

Thrifted Tunic in Today’s Outfit

I went on a thrifting shopping spree last week, the only reason why I did that – a 90% off sale that I couldn’t resist! And I decided that this week I am going to add an Outfit of the Day type of post, in which I am going to show you, how I incorporated my thrifted purchases into my daily outfits!

So here is my $1 tunic. I am wearing a hand made vintage top underneath ( learn more about it here http://beingzhenya.wordpress.com/2011/03/26/diy-tank-topcamisole-made-out-of-a-vintage-nightgown/) , a pair of brown leggings from who knows where :), my Kimchi Blue oxfords from Urban Outfitters, a thrifted BCBG jacket from Housing Works on Columbus Ave, and a purse, also from Urban Outfitters (Kimchi Blue).
