Outfit of the Day: Dashing through the Snow

Last Saturday our family had an early Christmas celebration, opening presents, a great dinner, taking family photos by the tree after too many glasses of champagne… The whole 9 yards!

I also got Sam to take a few shots of me, and give or take, my husband is a great photographer! So here we go, my outfit of the day!

This weeks Thrift Finds

Today was probably one of the best day’s off I’ve had in months! It started of with breakfast at Helen’s, then some thrift shopping. Then Napoleon’s with Masha, then thrifting, then mall, and another mall and Famous Daves… Well let me back up a little here :)

My most favorite store in Uptown Minneapolis – Steeple People is a must see for all thrifters. I have donated to the store a few times myself and today I finally found one of the pairs of shoes that I dropped off! I really hope someone buys them, since they are made out of water proof suede :)

Here is what I got:

1. This top…

… because I loved the back so much!

2. This top…

… again for the back ;)

3. This Dress, I just thought it was so very Paul Gauguin:

But it’s really this brand:

According to Sammy Davis’ article “How to date clothing“, the wording “of California” on a garment’s tag indicates that it’s vintage. Now this dress only says “California”, it’s still vintage, just dates back to the 80s, plus from doing some research on line I also found out that this dress comes with a matching fabric belt, which unfortunately didn’t come with mine. But I have other plans for this baby! The only thing I am going to tell you right now is that the hem is definitely going to be shortened. And plus it was kind of screwed up, which also got me $3 off of this item!

So here is a tip – ask for a discount if the item looks damaged or stained. I’ve done it today and I’ve done it before at the Salvation Army!

Then I met up with one of my girlfriends and had this strawberry Napoleon goodness:

Now the latte is totally my girlfriend’s! I had an iced mocha and a mimosa – which felt so good at 3 pm!

Then we hit Clothes Mentor, which is another chain of thrift stores here in the US. They had a 50% off sale, so everything that had a little yello Sale sticker was half-price – best news ever for a thrifter like me!

4. I got this awesome Linen wrap dress:

It came with a spare button too, plus it was designed in France! Best thing ever.

5. And finally my last find – brand new Necessary Objects jacket, also half price, spare button also included:

Another tip about Clothes Mentor – start a card there, every time you buy something there, you’ll get a punch, if you bring a reusable bag – you get another punch! Once you collect 20 punches, you’ll get 20% off of your purchase!

So that’s it for the day, let me know which piece you liked the most, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog to see how I style these pieces!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Goodwill Outlet Crazy Experience and Finds!

After having read blog posts and seen numerous pictures from Goodwill Outlet from one of my favorite vintage style bloggers Sammy Davis, I finally found some time to make it to a Goodwill Outlet here in Minnesota, in St. Paul to be more precise. The store is located right off of 280 and University Ave. And I was by no means prepared to what I saw. It’s basically a giant wear house, with tons and tons of stuff. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one for you:

In case you didn’t know here is how Goodwill Outlet works:

1. Your cart is always supposed to be against the wall.

2. Every now and then the staff does cart checks, and if you are not by your cart, they’ll dump it all out!

3. You are not allowed to touch anything while the staff is unloading boxes.

4. Bring your own bags.

5. All items are priced based on weight.

6. Have FUN!

So I grabbed a cart, put some tobramycin in my eyes and went digging :) I spent about 2 hours at the outlet, going through it all, and in the end, after having paid a little under $11, I came home with all this:

1. Some accessories:

2 Pairs of Shoes

3. A couple items to refashion – the ideas are brewing in my head as I type :)

4. Some vintage tops:

5. And some every day clothes :)

Let me know which of the pieces you liked the most! And follow my blog to see how I style these finds in the nearest couple of weeks!

Highs and Lows of the Week

Another week flew by. I noticed how faster the time flies now that I am married. It’s been almost 3 months since I made the BIG move back to the States. Almost 2 months since I’ve been married. Wow, no one ever told me I’d better capture every days memories. I guess one day I’m going to wake up, and I’ll be 30! But isn’t it the age to be?

Anyways, the highlights of the week have been:

1. Getting into the Links a la mod round up on IFB (that’s for Independent Fashion Bloggers – if you didn’t know!)

2. The release of the new iPhone 4S, which I will be getting very soon!

3. My great finds at the warehouse district Salvation Army!

4. TAZO tea, especially it being on sale at Target, and the available coupons, making it really really cheap and worth stocking up on!

5. Tresemme dry shampoo! That has been a life saver! For a someone who has a habit of taking evening showers, this product has been a miracle! It keeps my hair looking clean throughout the day, lasting through the evening! Love it!

Now on to the lows of the week:

1. Death of Steve Jobs

At least there are loving jokes going around Internet about him, and we know he definitely got into Heaven after reading this one!

2. Kate Middleton turning down Vogue cover.

This has been a total bummer for thousands of fashionistas around the world, but she did it, the Duchess of Cambridge declined this offer.

Good thing is, I look so much like her on my new DL, so if Vogue needs a dupe – I’ll do it! Just give me really HIGH heels ;)
