Copper Dress + Vigil for Orlando

copper dress copper dress copper dress copper dress copper dress

We spent all weekend moving from our house, to Sam’s parents’ basement. I woke up Sunday morning and told him how happy I felt. He replied – that’s because when you lived in New York you lived on the ground floor. He was right. Sometimes it still surprises me how well my husband knows me. I will talk about home ownership, and our house more later this week. But I am so happy in this ground floor “apartment” of ours for the time being.

Last night we took a walk through downtown, all the way to Stone Arch Bridge and around, it was beautiful. We ended it at the vigil for Orlando victims in Loring Park. So much sadness, but so much love at the same time. And love is the greatest of them all, remember it this week.

This copper dress is a little something I found at Target recently, it’s a WhoWhatWear line, I own the same one in black. It has spaghetti straps, but last night was chilly, so I threw this Francesca’s crop top over it. Sometimes a crop top makes all the difference. And of course my new favorite TOMS 😉

Happy Monday!

We will not give in to hate, we will not give in to fear. We never have and we won’t start 🌈

Easy Half Up Bun

John Frieda Root Blur

There are three hairstyles that I wear to school these days. Straight, wavy and a half bun, or as I prefer to call it – the man bun. And since I often wear my hair half up half down, I’ve been looking for a product that would help me blend the color in a little bit more, so that the contrast between my bleached hair and darker roots wouldn’t appear so drastic. That’s why I was really excited to try out the new Root Blur™ Colour Blending Concealer by John Frieda in Platinum to Champagne For Light to Medium Blonde available at Target in the hair color aisle.

John Frieda Root Blur

I have never heard of root concealer before, but it seemed like a perfect temporary solution for the times when my balayage grows out, and I need to soften the color. The powder also made sense, because I figured it’ll have an effect similar to the dry shampoo, so on the second or third day between shampooing, it would help absorb that extra oil and make hair look fresher.

Back to my favorite hairstyle though. A half up bun is only half the fun when the hair is straight. That’s why I normally curl my hair before setting my foot out the door. I normally use a Remington curling wand, but add the finish with sea salt beach spray instead of hairspray. Once the hair is dry and styled I use the John Frieda Root Blur, and the applicator that came with it to quickly blur the roots away, and add more color to frame the face. It takes only a couple minutes, and lasts till the next shampooing.

Knee Slit Black Jeans + Zombie Apocalypse

image1 image5

Weirdest dream last night, zombie apocalypse in Russia, and I somehow ended up in it. I had to pack my clothes, and didn’t have enough room in the suitcases, and didn’t have enough suitcases to begin with. Sam and I got separated and I was with my family, my grandma was alive, and my dad was around too (so weird!), and we went to an old settlement of stone huts on a river. And the whole thing was weird. All I remember was falling asleep (in my dream), looking at the shooting stars and hoping to see Sam again, which I did, this morning.

I am telling you some days my dreams are way too crazy even for me.

But in all honesty if I were to take the zombies down, I’d probably wear this outfit.

Happy Monday!

Whole30 is over and I feel amazing! I am going to stick to it for the next few weeks, and then, once school starts… well, I don’t know. Sam lost 15 lbs, I lost nothing! My friend Kate lost almost 13!!! I am kind of upset I didn’t lose any, but I kind of saw it coming. It’s hard to lose weight when there isn’t that much to lose. I would love to be around 115 lbs (I am currently 125), but then I will get thrown under the bus for not promoting positive self-image, when in reality that’s all I am promoting. It’s all about being healthy, strong, and confident.

I started 6 week 6 pack workout with Jillian Michaels, and that’s been going great. So far level one has my butt kicked. I am sticking to 5-6 workouts a week, and have somehow managed to stop Mason from biting me on my moving limbs.

I know I sound kind of whiny in this post, I had a tough day at the internship today, I am still deciding “should I stay or should I go?”, and the answer right now is one big SIGH.

At least these blue skinny jeans look good! Target, baby!

With school being a month away, I am already starting to think about fall style. And to be honest denim is my go to for pretty much everything, especially college related. I have stayed in the “skinnies” zone for so long, that these flares surprised even my husband.

They are denim flare jeans from Target, and so incredibly comfortable! They remind me of a pair I used to have in high school back in Russia.

The hem finish is my favorite part about this pair, it’s so detailed and unique, making this pair look anything but $29.99.

I styled this pair with a striped Free People Crop top, Target heels (because flares look best with heels!!!), HauteLook necklace and Free People reversible tote.

How do you style denim flare? Do you ware flare jeans at all?

29 today

IMG_1069

I turned 29 today and as I was thinking about this post, I toyed around with the idea of making it 30 before 30, but decided against it. It’s a waste of time, and in a lot of cases money. And to be honest all I want to do before I am 30 is graduate and get a job that I enjoy.

Maybe I’ll add – never lie about my age too 😉

Add Some Spice to Your Holidays #TargetWedding + Giveaway

Disclosure: Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Target. All opinions are my own #TargetWedding #Sponsored

After having been married for over 3 years, Sam has finally started cooking for me. Before, the most advanced meal he’s cooked was mac ‘n’ cheese, or scrambled eggs. But this fall something happened and he makes me dinner at least once a week. I am sharing this because my husband is an amazing cook, but the fact that it took him all these years to realize that still makes me pretty sad. So I want to help you avoid this situation and encourage you to cook together as a couple.

Of course our cooking experiments are not experiments, we have a recipe book called “How To Boil Water”. I am sure that you may have guessed from the title that Sam and I are no chefs. But it works wonders for us. We love trying out the new recipes, and there is something nostalgic about using a recipe book versus the now popular cooking apps.

So far Sam has made me delicious chicken with olives and dates, salmon, baked pasta, and quinoa! I can’t wait to see what he makes me this week.

St. Jude Theater of Dreams

the-wiz-stages-theater

Last Thursday I was able to ditch work early to head over to Stage theater in downtown Hopkins to attend St Jude Theater of Dreams. And of course I have a funny story to tell. I was planning on changing into a different dress for the night, but as I was putting it on in the bathroom, the zipper split. So on the verge of nervous breakdown, and fear of being late, I got into my husband’s car and he dropped me off at the event. I ended up changing back into the first dress I was wearing all day. And the dress with the broken zipper? I am planning on refashioning it into a skirt!

The night was great. Celebration of the 3rd annual St. Jude Theater of Dreams started with a Gourmet Pizza Party, premier of The Wiz, and Sweets Reception in the end. There was also an icee truck that I might have taken advantage of 😉

But above all that St. Jude is here to help families with kids who are fighting cancer. And they are doing a wonderful job. The care, the attention, everything that the families get, is free. There are no thousand dollar invoices, there are no insurance claims. It’s just kids being treated and getting well. That’s what St Jude is all about.

As for The Wiz and Stgaes theater – I loved it, every single bit of it. I feel like it’s one of those stories that keeps coming back over and over again, with the Wicked, and Once Upon a Time, and it should, because it reminds us to believe in ourselves and value what’s really important in life.

Summer of Style, Weddings and Fun

be-yourself-together

In less than a month Sam and I are taking a road trip to Colorado! Three years ago when we got married, my friend Doug walked me down the aisle. Now his daughter Dani is getting married and I am literally counting down the days.

I’ve known Dani since she was 13, we first met at a Russian Orphanage, which she’s travelled to with her dad. She immediately became popular with all the boys, because she was (and still is) an amazing soccer player. It’s hard to believe that she is getting married, but I can’t wait!

I know that a lot of you are attending weddings this summer, and I wanted to make this post both personal, and helpful. Target has always been my favorite place to shop for wedding gifts, and their #TargetWedding registry catalogue couldn’t be more helpful. So today I am going to share a few things with you, which I hope inspire you!

target-wedding

I have been loving the SodaStream, and I think it’s a perfect gift for everyone. Making your own drinks, experimenting with flavors, what can be more fun? Sharing them with friends and family at a party or a back yard gathering, that’s what! I am sure this will be a perfect gift for the newlyweds. I know I am throwing a party later this summer, once all of our home remodeling projects are over!

And how fun are these drinks dispensers? I love the chalk board one the most. Which one is your favorite?

My Summer Look: Pretty Nails, Pretty Legs

Disclosure: I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This #MySummerLook shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser. my-summer-look It’s easy to lose yourself in the busy season known as summer. After a 6 month long winter here in Minnesota, summers are full of fun, plans, and almost no time to myself. But it’s still important to keep it pretty! Pretty nails, pretty hair, pretty legs! If you follow me on Instagram you probably know that I just got another balayage! The second one turned out even better than the first. So now that I got my hair taken care of, I decided to spend sometime on my legs and nails. When it comes to buying beauty products, Target is my top choice. Living in Minnesota has it’s perks. Target is everywhere, and it’s so conveniently located, that I can walk there, when the weather is nice (which is also dangerous 😉 ). I love the beauty stands there, they are always so original and well put together, that I can get all my products in one place. target-summer-look-products   So after another successful trip to Target, I spent some me time on my deck, painting my nails, listening to Spotify and drawing inspiration from fashion magazines. This summer one of my goals is mastering nail art, and Sally Hansen products, especially their nail art kit, are perfect for that. I picked a lot of “nature” colors this time. Greens, blues, maybe because they reflect how I feel, or maybe because I want to be closer to nature, create a simple, easy look. summer-nail-trends summer-passtime And then I simply enjoyed my “me-time”, browsed social media, sipping my citrus water. how-to-be-skinny minneapolis-fashion-blogger And of course I didn’t leave the store without my favorite sunscreen products. I once got a sunburn canoeing. Can you guess where the sunburn was? On the back of my legs! Because out of all the places, I didn’t put it on there. And when sun reflected off of the canoe bottom, it burnt me pretty bed. So never again, thought I. Sunscreen has been a major essential since then. Between sailing, and being outside for work with the kids, I go through sunscreen every 2-4 weeks, and the regular kind just doesn’t do. I like the moisturizing kind, the one that leaves my legs feeling soft and smelling good. While the spray comes in very handy on the boat.

And finally I have some great news for you! There is an Instagram contest with $2,250 in Target gift cards to help you get your summer ready look. Look for the #MySummerLook hashtag and follow the conversation. How to enter (June 26, 2014 at 12:00 AM (midnight) Eastern Time (“ET”) and ends on July 10, 2014 at 11:59:59 PM ET):

  • 1) SNAP – take a picture of you getting summer ready
  • 2) TAG – use #MySummerLook (and on Twitter @SummerReadyLook)
  • 3) POST – post to Instagram or Twitter

Good luck, and don’t forget to tell me what’s your summer look like?
