Goodwill Outlet Crazy Experience and Finds!

After having read blog posts and seen numerous pictures from Goodwill Outlet from one of my favorite vintage style bloggers Sammy Davis, I finally found some time to make it to a Goodwill Outlet here in Minnesota, in St. Paul to be more precise. The store is located right off of 280 and University Ave. And I was by no means prepared to what I saw. It’s basically a giant wear house, with tons and tons of stuff. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one for you:

In case you didn’t know here is how Goodwill Outlet works:

1. Your cart is always supposed to be against the wall.

2. Every now and then the staff does cart checks, and if you are not by your cart, they’ll dump it all out!

3. You are not allowed to touch anything while the staff is unloading boxes.

4. Bring your own bags.

5. All items are priced based on weight.

6. Have FUN!

So I grabbed a cart, put some tobramycin in my eyes and went digging 🙂 I spent about 2 hours at the outlet, going through it all, and in the end, after having paid a little under $11, I came home with all this:

1. Some accessories:

2 Pairs of Shoes

3. A couple items to refashion – the ideas are brewing in my head as I type 🙂

4. Some vintage tops:

5. And some every day clothes 🙂

Let me know which of the pieces you liked the most! And follow my blog to see how I style these finds in the nearest couple of weeks!

The Fashion Rut

Rut!?! I don’t think I even knew the word “rut” until I moved to the States. It’s not something they teach you in an ESL class. But ever since I’ve discovered that word, I’ve started to use it more and more often – there is a make up rut, the marriage rut (aka my husband’s smart comments on the subject matter), and now, time has finally come to talk about the fashion rut, and all the things it brings.

I am usually very good at planning my shopping trips/thrifting trips/freecycling trips. I look for inspiration, cut out/print out some ideas, check on certain brands and off I go! Monday night I spent about an hour making a list of all the things I was going to look for!

There are 13 items on my list, I got 2 of them yesterday! The weekly show and tell of my thrift finds is coming up later this week, so be patient, I will also let you sneak a peak on how I prepare for my thrifting trips!

I am going to confess – I fell into the rut of  skirts/dresses and boots!

This look is so easy to pull off! Especially with my collection of dresses. I also dig the layering and the belts as well. Both of these pics are from a Sundance catalog by the way. I don’t buy their stuff, it’s too expensive, but the ideas are great! So if you have this “back-to-nature”/”nature-chic” kind of urge – check out their website.

Next I am guilty of taking advantage of skinny jeans and loose fit sweaters.

I seriously feel like I am turning into some “Fashion for Lazies” blog, so let’s learn how to fight and scream and kick and get out of a fashion rut:

1. Clean out your closet!

If you have as much as I do, there are probably things that you forgot you had! Usually the things we tend to wear more often, are the things we keep right where we can see them, reach for them and viola – you have been rocking the same outfit for a week! Congratulations!

2. Get rid of everything old, everything that you know you are not going to wear.

And don’t lie to yourself about “maybe wearing that sweater next week”, you are probably not going to wear it ever again. I do recommend keeping clothes that doesn’t fit! I also recommend hanging that clothes somewhere, where you can see them every day, and that should be your motivation to loose weight and fit into those skinny jeans! Now by “getting rid of” I don’t mean throwing it away, I mean – donating, swapping, putting it up on Freecycle or Craigslist. Some items might even be worth selling on Etsy!

3. Look for inspiration!

It’s everywhere, outside, in the windows of department stores, in catalogs, magazines, blogs – join bloglovin’, lookbook and get hundreds of ideas on a daily basis!

So there you have it – the RUT and how to get out of it! Now I’d better get to step 1!

Xo,

Thrifting for Treasure: Red Alert

This morning I wanted to share some of my thrift finds. I have been doing Thrifting for Treasure for a while now, and I used to simply post pictures and write short descriptions of the items that I bought, but today I decided to also find additional ideas on how to style my finds. Hope you enjoy it!

1. High waisted wool skirt with pleats and pockets

How to wear:

With a white top and some pearl accessories! That skirt is your best bet for the office. You can keep chap-stick in your pocket too 😉

2. Oversized striped AX sweater

How to wear:

– with skinny jeans, leggings, jeggings, or very VERY thick tights!

– with shorts, just make sure they are showing!

– with a skirt

Oversized sweaters are perfect when you want to draw attention to your legs! And when you have great legs to show, what can be better?

3. Red high waisted skirt

This skirt was bought as a DIY project in mind. It’s a maxi, which will be turned into a mini. The rest of the fabric, which by the way is a fabulous shade of red, is going towards my other DIY projects and will probably be turned into some hair accessories and a clutch!

How to wear:

– with a white top, like Lauren Conrad

– with a striped top, like Taylor Swift

– with a blazer

4. BCBG Max Azria dress

How to wear:

With cowboy boots, like Ashley Olsen, Jessica Alba and Miley Cirus

5. Red Vintage Coat

How to wear:

I spent a total of $14.46 yesterday, the AX sweater and the red coat were half-price, the skirts were $1.99 each. And the dress was $4.99

ALSO: I have mentioned this on my FB page yesterday, but if you are in Minneapolis, look for this:
