Zhenya’s News and Random Observations

Last week I saw Wayne Wilderson at Macy’s, and even though no one believed me, I tweeted him and what do you know? That was him :) Made my Saturday!

Fall crept up on me, like something that creeps up on you, anyways, when did it become fall? I seriously thought I had till September 20…

But the sunsets are becoming a pretty pink and purple:

I also scored some shoes at Marshall’s yesterday, both pairs only cost me $12.50 :) That’s what I call a “better than a thrift store deal”

I am going to be one tall Russian in these :)

Also, here is what I have been obsessively listening to these past few days:

I am having a frustrating day today, and it’s not even 8.30 am. Please send me some positive energy everyone, sorry I am being such a sucker, but families are hard :/

Love,

Z

The Wedding Weekend and my OOTD

Last Saturday my friend Sarah married her best friend Ryan, a guy she’s known for about 7 years. It’s been a long journey for them, but I remember back in 2006 when I first met Sarah at Decision Hills UMC, she made it clear to all of us at staff training who Ryan was and that she called dibs on him ;)

I was more than honored to be there to share her special day! She looked gorgeous. And I am sure she won’t mind me sharing some of the pictures with you guys, because I know you all are dying to see the wedding dress and maybe, probably, hopefully (?) what I wore to the wedding as well :)

Since the wedding was taking place in Willmar, about 2 hours away from the Twin Cities, Sam and I left around 1.30 pm to be there for the 4 pm ceremony. Now my husband has a thing for driving, he isn’t really fond of it, but we took route 12, which went through all these cute little towns, and that kept him entertained ;)

This is the church where the ceremony took place.

Having been to Willmar plenty of times before, I have to admit that I’ve never been to the UMC there (oops, my bad)

At least I got it taken care of now :) Here is the inside of the church:

Some shots from the ceremony during which the pastor mistakingly referred to Ryan as God :) That was a joke for the rest of the night, and I am sure will run in the family for many years!

And Ta-Da – they are married:

There is nothing better than sharing the joy of a newly married couple, I tell you! Here is Sam and I outside the church:

And here is just me:

So here is what I wore: Via Spiga shoes, the most comfortable heels ever! Necessary Objects Dress, that was a gift from Mia, I used to baby sit for her! The little black bolero is some unknown brand and came from a swap in NYC. I also have an Etra clutch, pearl necklace, and faux pearl earrings. And imagine that – I did my own hair! How awesome is that? I really didn’t think I could do it! If you are wondering what the dress looks like without the bolero – here is a pic:

Make up wise, here is a close up I posted on Instagram on the way to Willmar:

I used Physician’s Formula tinted moisturizer SPF 15, Lorac Social Beautifly palette eyeshadow, Maybelline gel liner, Clinique mascara, Mac highlighter, Sally Hansen cream blush, a little of the Revlon Photo Ready pressed powder, and Clinique chubby stick on my lips!

After the ceremony we went to the reception, and what kind of roadtrip is it without getting lost? Google maps totally googled us over :) But we found Holiday Inn, after pulling a U-turn somewhere on the outskirts of Willmar!

Look at the adorable favors:

And here is the couples first dance:

Me, bride, and the made of honor, the two are sisters, if you can’t tell ;)

I also realized what a city girl I am :) Sorry small towns, you are simply not for me!

Hope you had a fun weekend! A refashion post is coming up tomorrow!

Goodwill Outlet Crazy Experience and Finds!

After having read blog posts and seen numerous pictures from Goodwill Outlet from one of my favorite vintage style bloggers Sammy Davis, I finally found some time to make it to a Goodwill Outlet here in Minnesota, in St. Paul to be more precise. The store is located right off of 280 and University Ave. And I was by no means prepared to what I saw. It’s basically a giant wear house, with tons and tons of stuff. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one for you:

In case you didn’t know here is how Goodwill Outlet works:

1. Your cart is always supposed to be against the wall.

2. Every now and then the staff does cart checks, and if you are not by your cart, they’ll dump it all out!

3. You are not allowed to touch anything while the staff is unloading boxes.

4. Bring your own bags.

5. All items are priced based on weight.

6. Have FUN!

So I grabbed a cart, put some tobramycin in my eyes and went digging :) I spent about 2 hours at the outlet, going through it all, and in the end, after having paid a little under $11, I came home with all this:

1. Some accessories:

2 Pairs of Shoes

3. A couple items to refashion – the ideas are brewing in my head as I type :)

4. Some vintage tops:

5. And some every day clothes :)

Let me know which of the pieces you liked the most! And follow my blog to see how I style these finds in the nearest couple of weeks!

Thrifting for Treasure: 3 pairs of shoes for $6

Hey, that’s a dollar a shoe! I know! How awesome is that? Here is my problem though. I went to one of my favorite thrift stores – Steeple People (duh!) – to make a donation – and walked away with 3 pairs of shoes. Seriously, Zhenya? The thing is – shoes were half off, and they usually run $4 a pair! That’s a steal!

Some of you have already seen those shoes, but I kind of hogged one pair and didn’t show it to anyone :) Oh did I tell you 2 out of 3 pairs were brand new? Oh Yeah!

From right to left: Nine West Flats (the only used pair), Mustang Lace up Boots, Soda Knee High Boots (at least I think that’s what the brand is called)

And then I went a little crazy:

Can you find the right pair???

And finally, here is me in my new Knee Highs :)

What have you found in a thrift store recently?

Looking forward to your comments,

Doodles,

Z

Z

Ssshhh! I have a secret!

Did you know that wearing two different flip-flops in public is tacky? Even if you are 13?

Have a good day everyone, and don’t forget to make sure you are wearing the right pair of shoes!

Fall Uniform

This is again another IFB Project, that I thought I’d do. I think this is an amazing way to see what fashion bloggers are actually wearing, and not just blogging about ;) I wear so many different coats, that I thought it would be pointless to show them all, but I will show my fav print. The most important items that comprise my fall uniform are my boots, scarves and bags – so here you have it – BeingZhenya’s Fall Uniform!

Plus my favorite fall print of all times:

XO,

ZhenyAH!

PS. What is your fall uniform?

Style tips from DVF

A couple days ago I went to a Russian Wives get together. And let me tell you, it was worse than Real Housewives of Whatever! From the generation gap, to the endless conversations about children, to nasty comments and finally a confrontation that should stay unmentioned, nothing could get me out of the hole I’ve fallen into in a matter of hours. The only way out for me was reading fashion magazines, and so I did!

I came across some great Personal Style tips from DVF and decided to share them with you! I think that when it comes to personal style, it’s always better to follow someone’s guidelines and then, once you learn more about what looks good, and what doesn’t, you can go on your own and choose your own pieces.

1. Wear Perfume – it’s sexy, you are going to smell good, and it will help attract a man into your life, if you don’t have one :)

2. Go for Statement Jewelry – whether a bold necklace or a bright bracelet, that type of jewelry is definitely one of the top choices these days. My favorites are the statement rings

3. Be the woman you want to be! Be happy, be positive, be radiant.

4. When getting a new pair of shoes remember – Shoes should always elongate your legs! See the previous post on UGGs – I think the designers of that brand finally got it right! ;)

5. Take your beauty routine with you – I am not telling you all to turn into a nomad and hoard loads of stuff with you, but grab a small make up bag and stuff it with some essentials that you know you are going to need. For me any sort of face powder is a must have, everything else can stay at home!

6. Own a wrap dress – Why? Because they are flattering for all body types, now stop asking questions and start beautifying yourselves!

And always remember to leave uncomfortable or stiff clothes behind!

I hope you all enjoyed these tips and will take them into consideration! I know some people who should really look into those ;)

ZhenyAH!

Highlights of my Day! (SHOES, duh!)

Number 1: I got my Minnesota driver’s license (not in the mail yet, but I got it). For those of you who don’t know – to get a license in this wonderful land of 10,000 lakes, you gotta take the Permit Test! Wha??? Yes, you heard me. So I studied, studied, studied, and viola – passed it! I was also excited about getting a new picture on my license, and have my weight change from 120 to 117 lb! The lady at the DMV and I have also decided that my eye color is Grey! Took us a while to figure it out, she was going to put it down as blue, but my eyes are anything, but… Well anyways, once the license actually comes in the mail, I’ll let you all take a look :)

Number 2: Thrifting! I totally planned that! You know me! After I was done at the DMV, which was located on Lake and Chicago, I went east to check out the local Savers. On the way there, though, I got sidetracked to St. Vincent’s thrift store and got the most amazing $4 pair of shoes you can get!

The coolest thing is that they are made in Brazil, so I wanted to use this moment and say hi to all of my Brazilian friends out there! You girls are a ton of fun!

And last but not least: Sam and I made Peanut Butter/Hershey Hugs Blossoms – aren’t they tasty looking?

I hope you had a Fantabulous day! I love you all, and thanks for reading :)

PS. I did make it to Savers and it didn’t impress me much. I will do a more detailed review later in one of my upcoming posts, where I will talk about the most popular thrift stores in Minneapolis! So stay tuned!
