Naot Trunk Show + Donation Event May 5-7

NAOT TRUNK SHOW

When it comes to fashion, there are very few things I love as much as shoes.

Today I wanted to share an upcoming event that will take place here in the Twin Cities. It’s hosted by Naot Footwear & Schuler Shoes, and will go Thursday, May 5 9:30 am through Saturday, May 7 at 6:00 pm in 10 Schuler Shoes locations throughout the metro area.

The event will benefit Good in the ‘Hooda nonprofit dedicated to helping the urban poor and those that have been marginalized by difficult circumstances. Through youth mentoring, internships and adult advocacy programs, they are able to offer effective support for those desiring to move forward in life.

Everyone who attends the trunk show will be able to contribute to Good in the ‘Hood just by simply trying on shoes. Try on a pair of Naots, and they will donate a pair to those in need. If you buy a pair, they will donate two pairs. It’s fashion for a cause!

Use #NaotGivesBack to join the conversation on social media! And maybe I’ll see you there 😉

Heels

A heel came off my shoe last night as I was walking around IKEA.

It said nature on the inside.

And for the next few hours I couldn’t stop thinking about the other heel.

It said nothing.

But I have a sharpie and now it says strength. Because today I need some.

A few weeks ago I got a chance to pic out an outfit and some shape wear from Monroe and Main. This scuba dress is amazing, and I wanted a funky cool pattern for the summer. And the shoes are something I can run around in all summer, besides they go so well with this dress.

Monroe and Main helps women dress for their body shape (check out this helpful set of infographics here). It was an interesting process for me to try.

But being the size that I am the dress is a little too big for me, even though it’s a size small. I guess all the stress with the finals and the end of the semester have done their job. No one is complaining here, it’s good to be under 120 lbs.

Mason was dragged into posing with me for these photos, but isn’t he the cutest?

G is for Glamour {A-Z Challenge}

Glamour-is-a-state-of-mind

Merriam-Webster defines glamour as “a very exciting and attractive quality, a magic spell, an exciting and often illusory and romantic attractiveness”. Oxford Dictionary says: “The attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special”. It’s a word that sounds almost the same in Russian as it does in English. Glamour is universal and it’s everywhere. Glamour is full of excitement and appeal, it’s something we want and long for. Glamour to me is life in a big city. Travelling. A career. Designer clothes…

But then it becomes my goal, and I am working my way through the daily routine to get there, to my better life. And while I am on my way, I’ll shop some!

Accessories, Shoes, Home Decor

Sundays are perfect! They are laid back, they are relaxed, they are mine! Sundays are great for planning, for inspiration. Since moving into our new home, we’ve been trying to decorate it and set it up just the way we like it. And so far, only the living room has been coming along. Of course setting up a home takes time, and a lot of patience, but I have been really focusing on the upstairs story and half space, that is also my office/writing space. Would you like to see my wish board?

My other weakness are the shoes, and this spring, above all else, I want to be comfortable! What about you?

Zhenya’s News and Random Observations

Last week I saw Wayne Wilderson at Macy’s, and even though no one believed me, I tweeted him and what do you know? That was him 🙂 Made my Saturday!

Fall crept up on me, like something that creeps up on you, anyways, when did it become fall? I seriously thought I had till September 20…

But the sunsets are becoming a pretty pink and purple:

I also scored some shoes at Marshall’s yesterday, both pairs only cost me $12.50 🙂 That’s what I call a “better than a thrift store deal”

I am going to be one tall Russian in these 🙂

Also, here is what I have been obsessively listening to these past few days:

I am having a frustrating day today, and it’s not even 8.30 am. Please send me some positive energy everyone, sorry I am being such a sucker, but families are hard :/

Love,

The Wedding Weekend and my OOTD

Last Saturday my friend Sarah married her best friend Ryan, a guy she’s known for about 7 years. It’s been a long journey for them, but I remember back in 2006 when I first met Sarah at Decision Hills UMC, she made it clear to all of us at staff training who Ryan was and that she called dibs on him 😉

I was more than honored to be there to share her special day! She looked gorgeous. And I am sure she won’t mind me sharing some of the pictures with you guys, because I know you all are dying to see the wedding dress and maybe, probably, hopefully (?) what I wore to the wedding as well 🙂

Since the wedding was taking place in Willmar, about 2 hours away from the Twin Cities, Sam and I left around 1.30 pm to be there for the 4 pm ceremony. Now my husband has a thing for driving, he isn’t really fond of it, but we took route 12, which went through all these cute little towns, and that kept him entertained 😉

This is the church where the ceremony took place.

Having been to Willmar plenty of times before, I have to admit that I’ve never been to the UMC there (oops, my bad)

At least I got it taken care of now 🙂 Here is the inside of the church:

Some shots from the ceremony during which the pastor mistakingly referred to Ryan as God 🙂 That was a joke for the rest of the night, and I am sure will run in the family for many years!

And Ta-Da – they are married:

There is nothing better than sharing the joy of a newly married couple, I tell you! Here is Sam and I outside the church:

And here is just me:

So here is what I wore: Via Spiga shoes, the most comfortable heels ever! Necessary Objects Dress, that was a gift from Mia, I used to baby sit for her! The little black bolero is some unknown brand and came from a swap in NYC. I also have an Etra clutch, pearl necklace, and faux pearl earrings. And imagine that – I did my own hair! How awesome is that? I really didn’t think I could do it! If you are wondering what the dress looks like without the bolero – here is a pic:

Make up wise, here is a close up I posted on Instagram on the way to Willmar:

I used Physician’s Formula tinted moisturizer SPF 15, Lorac Social Beautifly palette eyeshadow, Maybelline gel liner, Clinique mascara, Mac highlighter, Sally Hansen cream blush, a little of the Revlon Photo Ready pressed powder, and Clinique chubby stick on my lips!

After the ceremony we went to the reception, and what kind of roadtrip is it without getting lost? Google maps totally googled us over 🙂 But we found Holiday Inn, after pulling a U-turn somewhere on the outskirts of Willmar!

Look at the adorable favors:

And here is the couples first dance:

Me, bride, and the made of honor, the two are sisters, if you can’t tell 😉

I also realized what a city girl I am 🙂 Sorry small towns, you are simply not for me!

Hope you had a fun weekend! A refashion post is coming up tomorrow!

Goodwill Outlet Crazy Experience and Finds!

After having read blog posts and seen numerous pictures from Goodwill Outlet from one of my favorite vintage style bloggers Sammy Davis, I finally found some time to make it to a Goodwill Outlet here in Minnesota, in St. Paul to be more precise. The store is located right off of 280 and University Ave. And I was by no means prepared to what I saw. It’s basically a giant wear house, with tons and tons of stuff. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one for you:

In case you didn’t know here is how Goodwill Outlet works:

1. Your cart is always supposed to be against the wall.

2. Every now and then the staff does cart checks, and if you are not by your cart, they’ll dump it all out!

3. You are not allowed to touch anything while the staff is unloading boxes.

4. Bring your own bags.

5. All items are priced based on weight.

6. Have FUN!

So I grabbed a cart, put some tobramycin in my eyes and went digging 🙂 I spent about 2 hours at the outlet, going through it all, and in the end, after having paid a little under $11, I came home with all this:

1. Some accessories:

2 Pairs of Shoes

3. A couple items to refashion – the ideas are brewing in my head as I type 🙂

4. Some vintage tops:

5. And some every day clothes 🙂

Let me know which of the pieces you liked the most! And follow my blog to see how I style these finds in the nearest couple of weeks!

Thrifting for Treasure: 3 pairs of shoes for $6

Hey, that’s a dollar a shoe! I know! How awesome is that? Here is my problem though. I went to one of my favorite thrift stores – Steeple People (duh!) – to make a donation – and walked away with 3 pairs of shoes. Seriously, Zhenya? The thing is – shoes were half off, and they usually run $4 a pair! That’s a steal!

Some of you have already seen those shoes, but I kind of hogged one pair and didn’t show it to anyone 🙂 Oh did I tell you 2 out of 3 pairs were brand new? Oh Yeah!

From right to left: Nine West Flats (the only used pair), Mustang Lace up Boots, Soda Knee High Boots (at least I think that’s what the brand is called)

And then I went a little crazy:

Can you find the right pair???

And finally, here is me in my new Knee Highs 🙂

What have you found in a thrift store recently?

Looking forward to your comments,

Doodles,

Z

Z
