SAIC 79th Annual Fashion Show

As you know during my last weekend’s trip to Chicago I was able to attend SAIC fashion show! It’s a show put on by sophomores, juniors and seniors of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and they do a wonderful job! I actually have something special coming up on the blog next week, SAIC related, so stay tuned, you don’t want to miss it!

And the show was amazing! We all got to sit in the front row, take pictures and videos with our new Samsung Galaxy cameras (See Disclosure) and chat about the designs in between! I think the most interesting thing for me (other than the clothes of course) was reading the names of the students, and the different scholarships they’ve received!

Now I am going to let pictures and videos do the talking!

I hope you were able to experience some of the fashion show’s ups, because there were no downs ;)

Husband’s Shirt into Tunic Refashion/

2013-02-07 08.08.01 (1)

I am going to be honest with you, this was supposed to be a dress. But then my proportions were really off, so I had to turn it into a tunic. But I have a couple more shirts that my husband has gladly (yeah, right!) donated, and maybe one of them will eventually turn into a dress!

Here is how:

1. Take a shirt and lay it out flat:

2013-01-22 21.56.31 (1)

2. Find a dress or shirt that fits you well, and lay it on top of the shirt, trace it:

2013-01-22 21.56.45 (1)

3. Cut along the lines:

2013-01-22 22.07.39 (1)

4. Hem the neckline and the sleeves, add personal touches (I went for a vintage lace collar and lace fabric), and you are done!

Have a great weekend everyone, and don’t forget to stop back tomorrow, I am having a SALE on my blog!

Xo,

Z

Outfit of the Day: Dashing through the Snow

Last Saturday our family had an early Christmas celebration, opening presents, a great dinner, taking family photos by the tree after too many glasses of champagne… The whole 9 yards!

I also got Sam to take a few shots of me, and give or take, my husband is a great photographer! So here we go, my outfit of the day!

Scarf

Run

Boots: Corso Como $6 – Steeple People

Dress: Anthropologie – $15 – Clothes Mentor

Scarf: Thirfted back in my NYC days

Cardigan: Mossimo $7

So here you have it, my very inexpensive, but fun Christmas outfit! Thrifting will never be  substituted by shopping in my world!

Happy Monday!

Crochet of the Day and $1 Books!

I am working on another crochet project, that is connected with yesterday’s post about Wednesday’s thrift finds. Are you confused yet? Hehe, anyways, stay tuned for next weeks posts, I have at least 3 DIYs planned for this weekend!

So here is what I’ve been working on today:

I figured I might as well attach the crochet patterns for those of you who share my addiction :)

And here is this one:

I got these patterns off of some Russian crochet web sites, simply because I find them better than the american ones. I love patterns vs description, if you know what I mean!

So I hope you are all excited for next week’s posts now! Don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t yet!

I also wanted to share some of the books I got today. I love going to the central library on Nicolette Mall here in downtown Minneapolis, there is a little store between a Dunn Brothers and the restrooms, where they sell “officially withdrawn” books. And I got some pretty shabby chic ones today ;) I also got one on vintage sewing! That’s right up my ally!

I am really excited about those books, especially because all of them cost $1 each, much cheaper than that Shabby Chic book that I saw at Target for $20! Talk about savings!

I hope I intrigued you enough to come check out my posts next week (as you know I don’t blog on weekends anymore, I hope you understand!) I do take pictures for the future posts and actually write posts on the weekends!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Z

A Case of Makeup Plagiarism: Hey Revlon, create new product much?

I wasn’t originally going to even write anything, because these images are pretty self explanatory, but this case of plagiarism just wants to make me laugh, or cry, I don’t know! The funny thing is – I found the Revlon picture on some blog last night, and left a comment that Revlon has completely ripped off the chubby stick, I literally had to look twice! And I work at Clinique! So I left a comment on that blog and the author didn’t even post it, you know those blogs when your comment is awaiting moderation and then it never appears? (oh wait I do that on my blog too! But that’s so none of you would be offered sex toys from Germany or Russian brides). I just wish people would’ve been more honest and open to criticism, besides, I wasn’t saying anything against her, just the company! I also hope that you understand that even though I work at Clinique, I still use other brands, including drug store ones, but hey Revlon is going off my list, with it’s crappy nail polishes and awful PhotoReady!

Have a fabulous day everyone, I know I will!

Z

PS. The pictures were taken off of Revlon’s FB page and Musings of a Muse, who also provides a great review and compares Revlon to Clinique and Tarte!
