Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara

As someone who’s always had very fair eyelashes and eyebrows (practically blonde), I can’t leave my house without mascara. It is my number one must-have and go-to product if I am running late. It was always bizarre to me how a small product like that could make all the difference.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been using the new Rimmel Volume Colourist Mascara that is meant to gradually tint eyelashes over time (at minimum, 2 weeks of daily use). Today I wanted to share a simple tutorial using a couple other Rimmel London products to show you how I go from a day-to-night look with mascara!

I am going to stick to 3 products for this eye look: Rimmel Volume Colorist Mascara, Coulour Precise Eyeliner, and Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Opener (all available at Target).

Step 1: Start by preparing your face. I usually use a CC cream and some powder for a matte effect. I also always make sure to define my eyebrows, they are a frame of your face!

Step 2: Apply Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in the inner corners of your eye and along the bottom lash line if desired. Blend it out.

Step 3: Apply Colour Precise Eyeliner. I really liked this product, even though I’ve never tried or really heard of it before. It has a very fine tip, making application a lot easier. It also lasts a very long amount of time. I wore it in the pool yesterday and it never got smudged (but of course I wasn’t doing any diving, just some light swimming).

Here are some tips when it comes to eyeliner application, especially if you don’t want it to smudge or go in your crease:

  • Prep your eyelid with some eyeshadow primer
  • Brush eyeshadow or powder over it, I use powder, it makes the look more natural, yet more dramatic
  • Apply the liner by starting out in your inner corner, then outer, and meeting in the middle.
  • Try not to blink until it is dry 😉

Step 4: Time for mascara! On a day-to day basis I only apply mascara to my top lashes, but adding it to my bottom ones always makes my eyes look so dramatic!

Rimmel Volume Colorist Mascara

Like mentioned above Rimmel Volume Colorist Mascara not only tints lashes over time, but also provides instant volume.

Tips on using the mascara:

  • To see the most intense tinting effect make sure to use this product daily
  • Visible results after 2-4 weeks
  • This product contains a lasting lash-tint complex with natural colorant that gradually darkens your lash color, plus a unique combo of creamy, ultra-black lash volumizing formula.

Beauty Brunch: Mail Call

pink_background_by_kindiykhan-d5vjmph

Having spent 2 summers working at a camp, I am very familiar with mail call. Were I at camp this week, I would’ve had to sing once a day every day, if not twice a day for all my packages. I do love getting mail, but you don’t want to hear my singing voice, trust me.

From makeup to nail polish, to hair removal products, I got a lot of new stuff to try in the mail. I don’t really know where to begin, so let’s start with Sigma Standout Eyes collection of 6 gel eyeliners.

Just in case you didn’t know, Sigma is a local company that first became known for their makeup brushes (at least to me, via YouTube). Now that they have added lines of well-pigmented and high-quality makeup, I like them even more. Last week I received this amazing set of gel liners in the mail. And let me tell you, the cat eye challenge is on! The set included liners in: Wicked (blackest black), Liberally Toasted (toasty warm brown), Stunningly Ladylike (dark brown-black), Standout Peacock (deep indigo blue), Royally Striking (true purple), and Unexpected (neutral stony grey). The colors are long-wearing, opaque, and saturated. All gel liners are versatile, yet unique and unexpected with intense pigmentation and a smooth, fluid-like finish. It also included two brushes: E06 Winged Liner Brush, which creates the perfect winged liner, and E68 Line Perfector Brush, for controlled liner application with powder products. I can’t wait to show you the makeup looks I’ll be creating with these liners and my other Sigma products. Use the hashtag – #standouteyes on social media for inspiration.

Next let’s talk about Luuux Makeup Brushes. I got 3 sets of those (yes, THREE!) and will be giving 2 of those away! One in today’s post, one on Instagram. So if you need makeup brushes, make sure to enter and get your hands on a pretty cool set, which includes: L150 Large Powder Brush, L187 Stippling Brush, L116 Blush Brush, L190 Foundation Brush, L224 Eyeshadow Blending Brush, L195 Concealer Brush, L239 Blending Brush, L242 Eyeshadow Brush, L219 The Pencil Brush, L217 Eyeshadow and blending brush, L208 angled brush, L316 Lip Brush.

Since I will be quitting my job in the next month or so, I knew I wanted to order hand made all natural soaps from one of the teachers. She’s given me a couple before to try, and I loved them. When she brought me a box of 10 different scents on Wednesday, I knew I wanted them all. Connie started making soaps several years ago as a necessity, not a hobby. She had several health issues caused by chemicals found in every day beauty products. And that’s how her soaps came to be. To learn more about Connie’s soaps email her at conniejwelch@hotmail.com

I am also excited to try these Completely Bare products that I got through Klout. I am always looking for alternative hair removal ways, as I seem to cut myself every time I shave with a razor. I am especially interested in the Body Moisturizer & Hair Inhibitor, it’s Lemon Grass and Green Tea scented, and promises to help reduce hair density by as much as 50%, reduce hair length by as much as 30%, reduce hair growth by as much as 55% in 28 days. I remember using a product like this before (about 5-6 years ago), and I really liked it. I’ll definitely keep you posted on this one.

And, finally, I received some products from Gerard’s to try out, and I will write a separate post on those. But how cool does Caviar cream sound? So stay tuned!

How Snugg is too Snug: My story of how NOT to work with brands

Disclosure: The products in this post were sent to me by the brand in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have somewhat recently received TheSnugg products for review. If you’ve never heard of TheSnugg, they are an online retailer that carries cases for all imaginable devices. They even have cases for my Samsung Galaxy camera (which I absolutely love). Not thinking clearly when placing my order, I asked for a MacBook Pro case. I already have my incase that I love, and to be honest my laptop is 3.5 years old, it’s missing a key, etc. So sooner or later, I am going to replace it. When I got the email confirming my order, I quickly skimmed through it, only to see another email telling me that instead of a MacBook Pro I was sent a MacBook Air case, but that it was going to fit anyways. So of course the case arrives, and of course it doesn’t fit. What followed was the long chain of emails between me and the company rep, but I am not going to post it here, to avoid embarrassing the brand. I mean the case was great, the stitching, the leather work, but the attitude was so rotten!

After a week of back and forth emails, and me offering to send the MacBook case back, because I absolutely had no use for it, they agreed to send me another product. I then went to my husband, and asked him if there was anything that he wanted. Sam quickly looked over their website and picked an orange case for his iPhone 5. He thought that orange would look really cool against the black of his phone.

The case arrived a couple days later, and there was nothing wrong with it. Fit perfectly. The one thing that Sam pointed out right away is that it’s a decoration only case, it doesn’t protect the screen, so if you drop your phone on its screen, your screen is done. And that’s one thing that bothers me about all these cases available out there. Yes, often cases are just for decoration only, they make our gadgets look like fashionable accessories. But if you are like me (aka I dropped my phone everywhere, except for the toilet!) you need more than an accessory, you need a case! A REAL case!

Would I recommend TheSnugg? They do have a couple good cases, that seem durable and worth the buck, there have recently been added new color choices, but as far as everything else – you decide.

I didn’t write this post to be mean, I wrote it because I agreed to provide an honest review. But my review has definitely been affected by the brands attitude. It’s also a lesson to me, to stop agreeing to review products that will sabotage the reputation of my blog. So as my other goal for this blog for 2014, I am going to add

Stop posting pointless reviews!

to the list!

Weigh-In {Ozeri Scale Review}

Stock-photo

Sam and I got a scale. It’s an Ozeri brand, lights up, nice dial, both kilograms and pounds, and of course it made it’s way into our bedroom! Sam steps on it twice a day every day. Me? I am not as keen on the idea. I have even threatened him to throw it away if he doesn’t stop. All those weigh ins make it seem like we are on the Biggest Loser, when in reality it just tells us our healthy weight!

Do you have a scale? If so, are you obsessed with it?

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara

Clinique’s latest addition, the new High Impact Extreme Volume mascara. That tube is huge, but the brush is even bigger! When they first showed it to us in Strategy School I thought it was going to be like CoverGirl’s Lash Blast, WRONG! This thing is HUGE.

The brush takes some getting used to, I poked myself in the eye the first time I used it 🙂 But I was also kind of disappointed, because there is no actual extreme volume, you can probably tell by the picture. Though it does wonders for one of my coworkers.

I would definitely recommend trying it on in the store first before buying it, since it’s a $19.50 mascara after all.

Another tip – the mascara comes in Extreme Black and Black and when compared the Black looks almost Brown :/

Overall I’d give this mascara a 3 out of 5, the original High Impact is better, in my opinion.

Hope your Monday is going well!

Zhenya
