Hope you had a great weekend! Check back often for outfit, beauty, fashion, style and sewing posts!

There are oh so many things you can do with denim, so I finally decided to make a top from all the leftovers I had!

My goal was to make something reversible, something that you could wear both ways, something without back, or front… I also knew that I definitely wanted to incorporate crochet into this refashion.

I used two different pairs of jeans, cut off the pant legs, traced one of the tops that I had to get the size right, and added the embellishments:

Before

The crochet piece is made of a really thick cotton hemp like yarn. I followed a simple pattern, used a 3.5 mm hook, and after a couple hours and a couple blisters, I think it adds to the piece and makes it very unique!

I sewed the two sides together, finished the edges off with some vintage bias tape (thank you freecycle) and was ready to go! You can notice that in the picture above the zipper is positioned differently that in the pictures below! That’s because I decided to flip it upside down for a better fit and a vest-like effect that can be achieved with this top!

After I finished the top, I went to the Sculpture Garden, one of my favorite spots in the whole world! Hence, perfect for this photo shoot! So with my Samsung Galaxy in hand, I mean in Sam’s hand – that’s what it looks like …

PS. I honestly think the photos turned out great, even though it was dusk – one of the hardest times of the day to photograph in my opinion!

We are also moving next week! Wish me luck!

Summer has got to be my favorite season! Do you think it has anything to do with my Birthday? July baby, that’s me! Today I am going to share some of my favorite summer essentials with you and put them together into an outfit! I hope you’ll like it 🙂

1. A straw fedora! I love this hat because it fits my head (gotta admit I have a big one 😉 ) it’s perfect for going out, or just relaxing by the pool…

2. White wedges! These shoes don’t just give me a few extra inches, but also boost my confidence!

3. Neon necklace! This piece from Old Navy brightens every outfit, and to think I’ve had it since 2009! It’s an oldie!

4. Funky sunnies! I went for these white frame ones! Yes, they are a bit too much, but sometimes a girl needs it!

Refashion Runway First Challenge: STRIPES

After

Hi everyone, I hope you are as excited as I am, because today I am finally sharing my very first submission to the Refashion Runway contest hosted by the Renegade Seamstress!

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO VOTE!!!

I am ecstatic, especially because I completed this challenge last Sunday, and waited and waited all week long to finally show it to you, and the WORLD!

As you know the theme of the first challenge was STRIPES! And there is a story behind this refashion (as always with me!)

I was at work working on the NAYEC portfolio on a Saturday (yes, I do that!), when Beth emailed me, so after spending 4 hours and barely getting anything done, I hit the Hopkins Goodwill (one of the best ones in the Twin Cities in my opinion) and scored an awesome American Apparel striped dress for $5.99 (originally $42), that just screamed REFASHION to me! (I also got a whole bunch of other things, but I’ll tell you more about them later 😉 )

Before

Do you see what’s wrong with it? Yes, the hood, which was too heavy and looked awkward, and the drawstrings, which looked like a giant shoelace!

So I quickly cut the hood off, creating the new neckline…

Then I got rid of the shoelace drawstring:

And swapped it for a bright turquoise ribbon!

But I went one step further and reused the left over fabric from the hood to create this Great Gatsby inspired head piece:

I styled the dress with white wedges from Fashionol.ru, Straw Fedora from Goodwill, Bright Neon Necklace from Old Navy, and Vintage Kenneth Cole purse!
