MBFW Day 8 Recap + Favorites

Just like all the good things in life, Fashion Week comes to an end, and even though I am sad it’s over, I am already looking forward to the September one!

Today began with Ralph Lauren’s collection, which included bright colors, plaid, leather, feathers, as well as the subtle grays and whites:

Hernan Lander had interesting cuts, and a lot of straight lines:

J. Mendel was a perfect combination of fur, flow and fabric. It was a perfect set of “runway to ready to wear” pieces for the fearless fashonistas:

And finally Calvin Klein presented us with a collection full of material that we haven’t seen in such abundance during this fashion week before. And as obvious as it is for the fall, the true genius of CK shines through every single look, because only he could pull it off! I am still asking myself – Was it wool, or was it pure genius?

And there you have it, the wrap up of Fall 2014 NYFW. I am going to miss it. Watching it on my lunch break, writing recaps, sharing my thoughts on the new styles, getting inspired by the designs. The good thing is, Fashion week always comes back!

Mustard, please!

I have done it, I have found the perfect mustard pants! And since I didn’t know what to wear them with today I went for my Ralph Lauren denim shirt. It’s my go-to shirt for almost every occasion, a comfort cloth of sorts! I used to have another “comfort cloth” piece of clothing before that, a gray American Rag cardigan I got at Macy’s a long long time ago! I think it’s still there somewhere in the depths of my closet in Russia!

Do you have any items in your closet that are like this? Let me know, would love to hear what everyone else is obsessing with!

Rock Your Denim Vest!!!

2013-05-12 15.27.13

2013-05-12 18.08.57

I’ve recently heard that if you want to see all of the latest fashion trends – go to Forever 21 – that’s where you’ll find them! And that’s true – everywhere you look in that store – you see something different and stylish, plus they have some classy pieces as well! I don’t really shop there that often, so those of you who thought I was now promoting for F21, think again! I did go in there during my trip to Chicago, simply because it was a free standing store! If some of you don’t know, I hate malls, just hate going inside, shopping there is too much for me (I wonder if you fellow thrifters have the same problem?), anyways, the one thing that I saw and liked was the denim vest, and besides if Jessica Alba can rock hers, why can’t I rock mine? Besides I saw this trend later featured on Chic Trends and I personally think it’s awesome!

The only problem was – I didn’t have one! So I went off to Salvation Army in the Warehouse district and found a Ralph Lauren one for $6! Just to compare, Forever 21 vests retail for at least $20! My original plan was (if I didn’t find the vest) to get a jacket and chop the sleeves off!

But here it is, my denim vest and the outfit I put together! We also went to Walker where my mother in law is a tour guide, so I got my very own personal tour of the two newest exhibits! Thank you, Sandra!

Dress Obsessed: Clothes Mentor Haul

I went thrifting, AGAIN. Okay not really thrifting, but consignment shopping 🙂 Big difference, really.

Please let me know if you are getting tired of these posts, but I personally love when other people post hauls, maybe because I get a sneak peek into their closets this way.

I did spend quiet a lot of money, but I had a gift card to that particular location of my beloved Clothes Mentor. And here are some of the treasures I found this time:

1. Ralph Lauren shorts and Jones New York cardigan – so prep school – $9.60 for both of these, as they were 70% off

Now for the more expensive stuff (I know, I know you are probably sitting there shaking your head at me, wondering whatever happened to $3 finds at Salvation Army or Goodwill, I promise to bring you hauls from there as well)

2. $20 Anna Sui dress

This baby looks a lot better belted, I am sure she had that in mind when creating this dress, or I just like to accentuate my waist line too much 🙂

3. 100% silk dress and slip from Anthropologie, which for once is not attached to the shell! Yay! Because (guess what?) I can wear that slip separately with some other clothes! So this one cost me $24, but with some boots, OMG I can’t wait to wear it!

4. Another Anthropologie dress (size 0 – gasp, all the working out is paying off), this time with geometric pattern, and of course pockets (that’s one of my must-haves in a dress) – and this was also $24

5. And finally a $15 Anthropologie (yes, surprise surprise – but in all honesty, I think a richer version of me just consigned all those – if you are reading this post, please leave me a comment and let me know if you have any more cool Anthro stuff, I’ll buy it directly from you! I am 100% serious)  dress, which is made of a heavier thicker material, so it’ll definitely be my fall/winter dress, with exposed zipper, which unfortunately you can’t really see 🙂 But it’s awesome nevertheless!

Now you gotta comment and tell me which one of these you like the best and which ones are a total fail 🙂

Also, if you are waiting for the “Stories From My Closet” I am going to make you wait a couple more days. I decided to add a Sunday Post to my blog, that way you have something to read with your morning coffee 🙂

Love you all, thanks for reading and looking and checking it all out and commenting!

Outfit of the Day – Dressing up for the Dentist

Today was my last visit to the dentist. Now I am not talking about cleaning or anything, I was getting my teeth fixed big time, no I mean it, BIG TIME!

I guess dental care in Russia sucks, because when I was leaving last July, I went to see a dentist, who told me I was going to be fine and that my teeth looked okay. Then I came here, and they took the X-rays, and it all went downhill from there. Well now it’s all fixed, and I am a happy camper. I am also happy the anesthesia wore off and I can enjoy dinner, without having to worry about biting my lip off! But in all it’s honesty, I had 8 or 9 teeth done, that’s how bad it was!

It always helps when the dentist calls you hun though 🙂

But enough me blabbering – here is what I wore today:

Loafers – Lucky Brand

Jeans – Dollhouse

Shirt and undershirt – Old Navy

Purse – Ralph Lauren, duh!

Watch – Marc Jacobs – It’s actually not in the picture, but I don’t leave the apartment without putting it on!

Check out my bicycle necklace – how awesome is that? Yup, I won it in a giveaway!

I was also wearing my Steve Madden shades, but those aren’t in the picture either!

And finally, I haven’t been blow drying or straightening my hair for almost a month now, feels awesome! Anyone out there need an extra curling iron?

Doodles,

Z

Lucky Brand

Джинсы – Dollhouse

Майка/кофта – Old Navy

Z

On Mortals and Purses

One good thing about working at Macy’s is shopping at Macy’s, oh wait I think I got that wrong 😉

Either way – my search for a perfect bag is over, I finally decided on a hobo by Ralph Lauren, and the discount was too good to pass on the deal. Plus this bag is black with silver accents, and that’s exactly what I was looking for!

Oh Macy’s, you just make me shop all the more!

The original price on this baby is $386, and let me tell you, I got it for less than 40% of the original price (that includes me using the Macy’s Card and my employee discount)

What do you think? I am pretty sure I am done with purses now, so if anyone is interested in buying any of my vintage/thrifted bags, let me know, I have a whole lot!

Cheers!

Thrifting for Treasure: It’s been too long!

It’s been over 2 weeks since I posted my last Thrifting for Treasure. I didn’t want to do one last week, because I only bought two things, but this week’s haul, along with things that I’ve gotten off of freecycle and the items I thrifted a week before, should, all together, make a great post. Plus I was really inspired by Daniel Troppy and his almost daily YouTube haul videos.

The two items I bought last week were a salmon colored Talbots skirt and a cotton Gap black dress. When it comes to skirts, I have noticed myself leaning more and more towards anything high waisted and pocketed. And I know that I have blogged about it a lot over the past few weeks, so I am not going to bore you, but put the pictures up instead!

This week’s thrifting experience was a lot a lot more productive. I went to the Salvation Army in the North Loop district and here is what I got:

A vintage Coach purse, this one was meant for my mother-in-law, but I am not sure if she wants it, or if I am ready to give it up yet, but it’s absolutely stunning! If you are going for a Coach purse – go for the leather ones, don’t buy the fabric bags, even though they cost over $300, they still look cheap!

Next I got a Calvin Klein Dress. I immediately fell in love with this dress, the different layers of fabric add fullness and volume to the skirt. Plus I love how stripes go in different directions.

Remember my post on Trench Coats? Inspired by my husband? Well I just happened to find two trenches at the Salvation Army, and one of them is reversible – so that’s like 3 trenches instead of two 😉

The first one is a Jones New York Coat:

Guess which side I will be rocking more often?

The next coat is actually a rain coat by Ralph Lauren. It’s a bright orange color, which will definitely make me stand out in the Minneapolis crowd!

The last two things were a little hard to explain, but since I got those sewing patterns off of Freecycle, I’ve been dying to get my hands on some new fabric. And well – turns out they sell fabric at the thrift store. What a pleasant discovery! If you are not sure if your thrift store sells fabric – check the linens/blankets section – that’s where I found these two amazing fabrics:

Now I am definitely asking for a sewing machine for Christmas.

I hope you all enjoyed these finds, if you’ve gone thrifting this week, make sure to leave a comment with a link to your blog below, I would love to check your finds out.

Have a great weekend,

xo

Great Fashion Week Ideas that you can Incorporate into your Daily Outfits!

I was browsing some fashion websites today in the AM, and came across some great fashion trends that you can use in your daily outfits.

1. The first one is a head scarf! This trend is actually one of my faves, because with fall coming, you can use the scarf to cover up your ears, and protect them from cold!

This one is Ralph Lauren.

And these are Marc Jacobs

2. Bright tights! There are some at Target for $5, but if you live in Minneapolis like me, and know about Target overstock at the local Salvation Army, you can get them there for $2!

3. The 60s coat! Going back to yesterdays post about not wearing fleece, I just want to show another coat idea to all of you out there in distress!

4. High waisted pants. If Leone Lewis can rock them, so can you!

I hope you are enjoying these as much as I am! Good luck with fashion trends and fashion finds!

Becoming more Feminine

I know I am already feminine, I wear dresses and heels, and put on make-up every day, but today while I was at SPSS on South Lyndale Ave, I decided that I need more girlyness in my life.

So how do I do that?

1. First of all – I am not going to wear T-shirts anymore, the kind that looks like this:

I actually wore the exact same shirt today, lol! These shirts are only going to be left in my closet for one reason – to work out! Even when you go to sleep – wear some sexy pajamas.

2. No baggy, loose pants or boyfriend jeans.

I have a pair of loose Ralf Lauren shorts size 4 which I freecycled back in NYC, and my husband hates them. Today he told me that my butt looks big in them 🙂 That’s his way of telling me to get rid of those shorts.

Mine are the same style, but navy blue. My advice is to simply wear pants that fit! Also a tip – Boyfriend jeans look good on girls with flat butts (seriously) – if you have curves – don’t be afraid to show them!

3. Accessorize!

Scarves, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are going to be your best friend. And remember Coco Chanel’s famous quote – “take one thing off before leaving the house”!

4. Say good bye to ugly shoes (flip-flops from Old Navy or other cheap stores – leave those for the beach). FYI – UGGS are ugly too, in fact I think UGG is a derivative from UGLY. Besides they don’t support the arch of your foot, and that’s not good!

5. Make-up is your best friend, and the older you get, the more helpful it becomes:)

Also check out these YouTube gurus, especially their make-up tutorials, pay attention to the before and then after 🙂

http://www.youtube.com/user/Lisasz09

http://www.youtube.com/user/emilynoel83

6. Make sure you take time to groom yourself – hair, skin and body need to be in top shape! I do know some girly girls who let themselves go, and then they become fat and ugly, and all the cuteness is gone. I am sorry, but it’s true. So invest some money into regular hair cuts, skin care products and good tennis shoes.

And remember – investing money into beauty procedures isn’t just the celebrities’ prerogative – you can do it too, and you can do it on a budget! There are plenty of beauty recipes on a budget!

I hope you all have a fabulous night, tomorrow I am going to blog about staying fit without going to the gym – and some foods that keep me skinny!
