Vintage band t-shirts are my favorite, they are also pretty easy to find when out thrifting. I cut the sleeves off on this Led Zeppelin number though before wearing it, just because.

This weekend we are moving out of our house and into my in-laws’ basement for about a month and a half while I finish school, and before we move to Milwaukee. So as I was writing this post I realized that these are probably the last pictures I will ever take in front of my garage door 😉 I don’t find it one bit sentimental.

Third Eye

I have a third eye! Ragstock sells these awesome screen printed sweatshirts, and I couldn’t resist getting one to wear to class this semester! How amazing is the idea of repurposing a thrifted/vintage sweatshirt? I wish more companies would do that! It was so hard to resist buying it in every color though.

On the other note, Happy Monday people! Hope you survived the weekend, whether you love VDay or hate it 😉 As predicted, there is now a giant cake in my fridge, you are more than welcome to stop by and have some!

Velvet 90’s

How are you? I am still stuck in the 90’s. Not sure why, maybe because of all the velvet that reminds me of that decade. This Ragstock dress is no exception, I might even wear it on Valentine’s Day, because why not?

Let’s talk a little about Valentine’s Day, shall we? Here are a few thoughts that I would like to share and tell you how mine is going to pan out a week from Sunday.

  1. It’s a Sunday, so I will get to sleep in, snuggle up with everyone, and by everyone I mean Sam and Mason (our dog).
  2. Drink unbelievable amounts of coffee. On my way home from my late night class yesterday I caught myself thinking that “Wouldn’t it be nice to come home, drink coffee and do homework?”. Yes, my friends think I am weird.
  3. Valentine’s day is always our half-versary (is this even a word?), since we got married on August 14. This is how I actually remember when we got married, because we’ve forgotten our anniversary on a number of occasions.
  4. Sometime around 1 pm Sam and I are going to go get me a cake. I don’t like the sweet thick icing cakes, so we are going to go to Lund’s & Biyearly’s and I am going to pick out something completely ridiculous. Last year it was a Butterfinger cake. And the year before it was a chocolate cake with (I swear) 2 lbs of raspberries on top! Man I love my cake. We are going to spend the next 2 weeks trying to consume the cake. It will probably dry up and I will have to throw away at least a quarter.
  5. Then I am going to realize I have homework to do, and will spend the rest of my day working on some group project that involves creating a unique idea and implementing it without spending any amount of money.

And this is how we do Valentine’s day Hutson style! Happy Thursday friends!

PS. Romance is not dead, maybe…

DIY Distressed Jeans

During the short period of time between when I was done with my Verizon internship and beginning of the spring semester, I had a few days to hang out with friends, catch up, and learn an extremely useful skill 😉 My friend Ania, owner of Alacloth, came over and taught me how to distress jeans using a dremel. Sam and I got a dremel to file Mason’s nails, and I was excited to put it to a better use. Besides I had a pair of vintage Eddie Bauer jeans I brought from Colorado a couple years ago, and was seriously considering getting rid of them, because they were just gathering dust.

Ania gave me some tips on how to distress denim that I am more than happy to share with you along with images of the DIY process itself.

2016-01-14 11.57.34 2016-01-14 12.05.00 2016-01-14 12.01.44 2016-01-14 12.08.57 2016-01-14 12.01.23 2016-01-14 12.04.12 2016-01-14 12.35.41

So here are our tips on how to DIY Distressed Jeans:

Knee holes: If you are particular about the location of yours, put the jeans on and mark the top of your knew.

For regular boyfriend jeans slits take the pant leg and fold it up to the crotch, then make the mark. Cut a small slit, then rip the rest!

Helpful tip: look for the natural distress and wear and tear on the jeans and add to that.

Use a thick piece of cardboard to slide into the pant legs when using the dremel.

Sandpaper can also come in handy when distressing, 3M has a great little tool you can buy and add small distressed details to pockets and waistband.

When using a dremel (Ania and I both used Dremel 3000), put it on the medium setting. Sometimes the dremel will go through the material too fast, and the string may wrap around the dremel causing it to jam. Just turn it off, untangle and proceed 😉

If you have glasses you can wear – do that, otherwise you may get lint in the eyes.

Distressing is also a great way to get rid of stains on the denim!

Wash the jeans after you are done with them, or better yet, wet the newly distressed areas and throw them in the dryer.

And while I am keeping my jeans, you can check out Ania’s on Asos!

This post is also a part of my collaboration with Ragstock. I am obsessed with this Ramen Sweatshirt that I found at their Uptown location, it’s so soft and warm, and has food on it!

In search of the evening light last night, I came to realize, that blogging for me has become a self-expression, a form of finding myself. I am going through a vintage stage again. And I think this time around it’s here to stay for a little while longer.

This dress is everything. It’s flirty, fun, chic, boho, cute, quirky. I had to have it. I had to wear it. And then the cowboy boots, that Midwest mark, even though I bought them in New York. And the city of Milan printed tights. And that purple Ted Baker bag that was the very first giveaway that I won. A lot of my clothes tell a story. What story do your clothes tell about you?

Earth Day Outfit

Happy Earth Day everyone, I hope you had a great day and reduced, reused or recycled! Here is what I got out of this day:

I recycled an almost empty tinted moisturizer at the Origins counter at Macy’s and got a full size Age Defense Moisturizer with SPF 25 – it usually comes in a jar, so don’t be confused by the packaging 😉

I also scored a free reusable bag at Target, don’t know what I am going to use it for yet, but it’s good to have!

The L’oreal sample came from the May issue of Vogue magazine.

And finally – free coffee in my reusable RBC mug from Caribou 🙂

I had to work today, which meant wearing black for the 4 hours that I spent at Macy’s, but then Sam and I went to a concert, and I went all out for that:

Shoes: Nine West Vintage America

Jeans: Ragstock

Shirt: Old Navy

Sheer Blouse: Ragstock

Jacket: BCBG Max Azria

Bag: Coach

Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs

The show we saw was pretty good, we only stayed for one band (Step in Clouds), but they were giving away free CDs. I personally thought they sounded something like Augustana.

Earth Day is now one of my favorite holidays 😉 What did you do today?

XO,

Z

Vogue.

Nine West Vintage America

Ragstock

Old Navy

Ragstock

BCBG Max Azria

Coach

Marc by Marc Jacobs

XO,

Z

Easter the Hutsons’ way!

Yay for Easter and holidays and a day off 🙂 Anyways I am going to start today’s post with my outfit of the day! The skirt was an amazing $12 find from Old Navy! The sheer blouse is something I got at Ragstock last week and the under shirt is something I’ve had for years! The shoes are pretty old too, I’ve had them since Russia!

I also made a traditional Russian Easter cake called “Kulich” – just some raisins and icing, and it turned out really good! I honestly didn’t expect that at all 🙂 Hehe

Once we got to my in-laws house, Sandra surprised me with spicy Korean carrots (those are super popular in Russia!)

While waiting for dinner, we entertained ourselves by adding on to the diorama!

Can you guess what we’ve added? Heh!

And after dinner we were all enjoying the view and taking pictures. Sam and I don’t have a lot of pictures together, so we finally took one!

And I took one with my mother-in-law as well 🙂 How gorgeous are we?

And finally, I just wanted to share some of the beautiful scenery with you, add on bird sounds and a little breeze and you get our Easter Day!

Happy Easter everyone!

xoxo

1 Day 2 Outfits and Boo

Yesterday was my day off! And days off are amazing, I am sure you all know that! Plus I was on a mission – to buy Boo the cute little dog for Ingrid – the girl I baby sit! If you don’t know who Boo is – here is a picture!

I was able to order both the plush toy and the book about Boo from our Uptown Urban Outfitters, and have them ship it to my house for free 🙂 Oh the beauty of ordering from the store instead of online (that would’ve cost me $10!)

Anyways, once Boo makes it to my house, I’ll make sure to take some pictures of him for you before I pass him on to the cutest little girl in the area!

Now, I don’t want to be vain, or God forbid pull a Samantha Brick on you, but I went through 2 outfits yesterday. Here is the first one:

I am rocking my thrifted COACH cross body and BCBG Max Azria Jacket, my dress came from a sale at Macy’s, and the boots were a gift from my hubby, before we were even married. And then you know, the watch is the usual – Marc Jacobs, yes, I am obsessed 😉

After I placed my order at UO, I went to check out the Ragstock, and ran into my friend Tom, whom I haven’t seen for about 5 years! Here is some interesting info for you – there are 2 Ragstocks in uptown, both are in the same building, but I was so excited about everything I bought there, I had to immediately go home and change!

Hence, Outfit of the day #2:

As you can tell I am recovering pretty well after my surgery 🙂 Thank you all for warm wishes and loving messages! I appreciate all of them so so much!

Hope you had a good day yesterday!

Z
