Minnetonka Orchards

About a week ago my friend Kara and I went to Minnetonka Orchards, between hot cider and hay rides, we managed to explore the corn maze, make friends with the sheep and take a whole lot of pictures. Growing up I never had an opportunity to go to an orchard like this, mostly because we don’t do that in Russia, so I was trying to catch up. The highlight of my day there was being called a walking page out of Anthropologie catalog, definitely made my day! I’m going to keep walking ๐Ÿ˜‰

Layers of Leather // Thrift Style Thursday

I have been in love with leather. I should probably blame #StyleChat for that! And even though the leather I own is mostly faux, my obsession with it is pretty real. When Martyna of Spoolish and I decided to talk layers this Thrift Style Thursday, I knew that my $1 faux leather skirt had to make an appearance on my blog! There is a place in Minneapolis called Opitz, and then there is a place right next door called The Annex. Opitz sells designer and high end brands at a discount, The Annex sells everything else! When I found this skirt, the zipper was almost ripped out, but the skirt looked 100% fixable, and that’s exactly what I did! It is a tad bit too short for me, and while I was going to add lace to it, I decided that it would be fun to just layer it on top of the Philip Lim skirt I recently bought at Target!

I am wearing:

ย OASAP polka dot shirt // Refashioned faux leather skirt from The Annex // Philip Lim for Target skirt // Faux leather leggings from OASAP // Salamander boots // Golden toe booties // Philip Lim for Target tote

Layering is definitely something I am looking forward to, now that the temperatures are finally going down!

And don’t forget to enter my Giveaway, because the bag in this picture is up for grabs!

Quick Pants to Skirt DIY

Today’s post is a quick pants to skirt transformation. I showed you the polka dot madness that was happening in my refashion pile last week, so today I am going to share the quick and easy way of turning a pair of pants into a skirt.

I started off with what I like to call an awkward pair of pants. If I were to be super lazy about this refashion, I would’ve kept them as PJ’s – yes they were that comfy!

What you then want to do is chop off the legs:

And because this skirt would’ve been way too short if I didn’t add on to the length, I cut out strips of fabric from one of the pant legs, added a wide thick ribbon…

Pinned and sewed it all to the edge of the skirt, and ended up with this:

Now all I need to do is wear it somewhere ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you all had a good weekend! I went wake boarding for the first time, loved it ๐Ÿ™‚

You should never wear a red shirt with black polka dots because your friends will call you a lady bug

New week has come, and the polka dot trend popped up everywhere on fashion blogs. Ever since I joined Bloglovin’ and Lookbook, I’ve been able to keep track of weekly trends much, much better!

Fashion is like karma – what goes around, comes around. Polka dots have been around several times, today is when they return.

Even for people like me, who refuse to buy new clothes, and shop consignment instead, trends are a big deal. And later on in the day, when I will head to my favorite Salvation Army with one of my girlfriends, I will be trying to spot some cute polka dots wear!

Polka dots originally remind me of clowns, and circus (hence the title of the blog post), but they can be a lot more graceful and feminine. I had a professor in college, who said that polka dots are very sexually appealing to men. So if you are looking for that special someone, may the polka dots help you!

Seems to me a polka dotted dress goes really well with the red lip!

In spite the fact that polka dots have been around for decades, there are plenty of designers, who included this fab print into their FALL 2011 collection.

Here is some from Marc Jacobs:

Jason Wu (who will be collaborating with Target this upcoming Spring!)

Stella McCartney has also jumped on the polka dots wagon:

Even Valention is there:

In spite of having a rather extensive clothing and accessory collection, I am 100% missing out on the polka dots. So last night, as I was preparing for the thrifting trip, gathering ideas from magazines and catalogues, I put “polka-dots” on the list!

We’ll see if I am lucky today! Hope to be, because I have a sweet 25% off coupon to use at the Salvation Army!

For those of you, who are in the same boat with me, and are completely missing out on the polka dots, here are some “must-haves” for this fall! Hurry, you only have a month and a half of fall left ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you are one of those who want to play it safe, but would still like to follow the trend, go for the scarf or a headband. For the ones who are more of a risk taker – go for the shirt! And crazies like me are going to end up in polka dots from head to toe ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Tuesday!
