Pops of Color

Outfit: Bright red lipstick, neon belt and my new favorite blue shoes are the key pieces in this simple outfit. The shirt dress is another proof that black and white are my go to colors and I won’t be gravitating away from them anytime soon.

Life: I am officially a Milwaukeean, all moved into a new apartment, finally unpacked and feeling at home. A part of me still can’t believe that I am finally here, a university graduate, working my first corporate job. I’ve been waiting for this moment since November, but it all seems so surreal to me still.

Miscellaneous: Sam and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary yesterday.

I’ve been insanely obsessed with the gym.

Frustrated by the lack of Targets in the area.

Mesmerized by the beauty of lake Michigan.

PS. Thank you Megan for the photos!

Faux Fur, Plaid + Distressed Denim

Here they are, my DIY distressed jeans making an appearance in another post paired up with a plaid button down and a faux fur vest. I am obsessed with how this pair turned out, and can’t wait to work on my next one. If only it was warmer in Minnesota. I keep telling myself – Only 2 more cold days, then it’ll get better.

This whole look sans the shoes and the hat is thrifted, and I couldn’t be more proud at how it all came together!

It’s week 4 of school now, and all my projects are starting to get more serious and intense. But as some of you know, I am not working this semester, just focusing on school, so that definitely makes things a lot easier.

I wanted to quickly mention a really cool book I am reading in my Retail Environments and Human Behavior class. It’s called Why We Buy? by Paco Undersell. The book focuses on different aspects of stores, from visual displays, to decompression zones, to strategically positioning merchandise in specific places on the floor. So if you are interested in retail, or simply want to know more about the science of shopping, definitely check it out. I will be working on an observational research paper in this class too, so if you are interested, definitely let me know, and I will share about my research in the next post.

PS. Happy Valentine’s Day! Can you tell which hand is mine?

Christmas is over, so is my fall semester. I can’t believe I did it yet again. Let me tell you, college second time around, especially when you are 29 is hard. Hard, but doable. Now it’s just waiting for the grades to go up.

I am really excited for 2016. I will be graduating, moving for work and basically starting all over. Don’t worry, Sam and Mason are coming with!

Meanwhile, here I am at the Cedar Lake Beach in my babushka scarf, wishing that there was less snow and more sand.

Duluth 2015

20151010_121810

20151010_114653

Last Saturday we took a day trip to Duluth, and by we I mean Sam and myself, as well as our friends Blake,  Val and Kate.

Sam went to UMD, I spent about a month living there in the end of summer of 2010, we also got engaged in Duluth, and still have friends in the area.

Needless to say it was a fun trip, which included lunch at Burrito Union with one of Sam’s college friends Ryan, who now teaches at UMD, a walk around campus, a lot of picture taking, and even some laying in the sand on the beach.

I know I haven’t posted in a while, but life has been busy and exciting here, not leaving too much free time for the blog, but I’ll try to post at least once a week, I am sure you’ll understand!

It’s Plaid to me #ThriftStyleThursday

2015-04-27 17.38.39

I have missed so  many Thrift Style Thursdays that I have lost count. But I really wanted to blog today, especially after my Macro final, that I don’t even care if the shirt is plaid! I have recently gone to the new goodwill outlet in St Paul, and this shirt is from there, along with many other shirts and sweaters. I also went thrifting today and got a pretty fancy paisley Ralph Lauren dress, so move over Lily Pulitzer, I never liked you anyways.

So even though the shirt cost probably less than $1.00, I managed to wear it with a pair of $200 Joe’s Jeans. Talk about thrifty blogger over here! My T-shirt is from Zara, and says “Darling, I have it on vinyl”, which I don’t. I also don’t have anything to play vinyls on. This is a summer goal – acquire vinyls, a new shelf for the living room, redecorate the living room, don’t go broke, and have fun.

I have so many fun things to attend to this weekend, I can’t wait. Yes they are fashion shows. But I have one more final, and that is kind of driving me insane. Ironically enough it is a psychology final.

Someone bring me Chipotle and come play with my dog, while I go study.

Also, my favorite girl, so check them out!

I often see outfits on Pinterest or Instagram and think to myself – I really like this look, I wonder if I could pull it off!

And this is the case with this pinspired outfit. I paired my vintage wool skirt with a hand knit thrifted sweater, my Frye boots and this Duluth Trading company bag! This is my school bag and I absolutely love it, because it fits my laptop, all my notebooks and the ridiculous amount of lipsticks that I carry around with me.

Hope this post inspires you! I am spending the day in bed with my textbooks!

Get my look: Frye boots, plaid skirt, knit sweaters, leather bags.

I never would’ve thought I’d be wearing a skort, but here it is, and it’s amazing! I have a few fun things and events coming up this week and next. There will be another shoot, a store event, a fun Valentine’s Day giveaway and a couple exciting announcements.

Also, this semester I am writing for CollegeFashionista, and I am pretty pumped about that! I will make sure to share my posts and photos with you here and on Instagram.

The photos are from a shoot I did for Alacloth Vintage with Eric Sorensen a couple weeks ago.

Fall Trends 2014: Plaid #TST

FallTrends2014Plaid

For the past couple of days I have been in full fall mode, putting together looks for my Instagram, pinning images to my Fall Fashion and Style board on Pinterest, wishing the august humidity would go away.

I can’t wait to wear plaid, see more of it on the Runway at NYFW that’s coming up, and see how you wear it.

Only 2 days left at work, and that’s including today!

Something happened to me last time I went thrifting. I bought something I never bought before. A brand so stereotypical in my mind, a brand called Abercrombie & Fitch.

I have always associated A&F with middle/high school girls, and made sure to stay away from the stores. But when I found this shirt at Goodwill for only $5, tried it on, and realized that it fit perfectly, it hit me – I need more plaid in my life!

Today’s outfit is anything but ordinary in my wardrobe. Plaid is definitely making a comeback and is a big trend this season. But this flannel shirt dress is the only item in my closet. I seriously consider flannel to be a Minnesota thing! I was singing “I am a lumberjack and I am okay…” while getting dressed this morning!
What do you think about plaid? Is it making a comeback in your wardrobe?
Happy Thrift Style Thursday,
Zhenya
