Makeup No More

Happy hump day! How is your week going? Mine is pretty, well if we put it in my husband’s best friend’s words – shnazzy (is that how you spell shnazzy? I hope so!)

First of all, let me share something with you:

– Working in retail turns you into a mean, spiteful person, who constantly wants to make fun of other people, especially customers. So let’s all try and be a perfect customer to each other shall we?

– Working in retail turns you into a helpful and compassionate person, who is supportive and loving of his coworkers, so lets be that coworker to each other!

– Sometimes helping each other pays off, today it paid off in:

Another thing that’s been on my mind today and honestly for a while is

“I SHOULD STOP BUYING MAKEUP”

Here is why:

And this is how it’s all organized in and on my dresser:

Now being the geek that I have been this past week, I came up with some numbers. So my collection includes:

5 Blushes

3 Powders

2 Bronzers

2 Highlighters

1 BB Cream

1 Tinted Moisturizer

1 VitaZing

1 Foundation

11 Liners:

– 7 gel

– 1 liquid

– 4 pencils

10 Mascaras:

– 1 Primer

– 1 Clear

– 1 Blue

– 7 Black

Lipsticks:

– 1 Lipliner

– 6 glosses, plus whatever is at work (about 3, I think)

– 2 chubby sticks

– 4 lipsticks

2 Serums and 1 Primer (I know these are mainly skincare, but they have snuck in the pictures somehow)

5 Concealers:

– 1 Brightening

– 1 Dark Circle corrector

– 1 Acne corrector

– 2 regular ones

1 Eyeshadow base ( 🙂 )

34 Nailpolishes

4 Shimmer Powders

6 Eyeshadow singles

23 Eyeshadow Palettes, 10 of which include blushes, bronzer and/or highlighters, then 5 of these include lipsticks and glosses

Now you know why I am going to stop buying make up. I don’t know how long it’s going to take me to use those things up, some items will run out/expire faster than others, but the goal is to use up as much items as possible 🙂 And I will definitely keep you updated!

Also, please no judgement on my collection, it is what it is 🙂

xo,

Zhenya

Review: Origins A Perfect World SPF 25

Today’s post is entirely dedicated to Origins’ A Perfect World SPF 25 Moisturizer. We all want to live in a perfect world, don’t we? Especially if it also protects us from the sun! The brand is rather popular in the US, not so sure about Russia and Europe. This moisturizer usually comes in a packaging like this:

But mine came in a tube, and I got it for free on Earth Day (April, 22) at the Origins counter at Macy’s when I recycled a Physician’s Formula tinted moisturizer.

It ususally retails for $39.50 before tax, but free is better, in my case free turned out to be a pretty good deal, for both my wallet and my skin! It’s perfect for the summer too!

I’ve been using this moisturizer every AM since I got it, it’s not a very good night time product because of the SPF, unless you need SPF at night 😉

It has a light citrus scent, mixed in with the wonderful smell of SPF! It’s easy to apply, it absorbs fast, and it doesn’t create any greasiness. It’s best used if you have dry combination skin (raise your hand if you fall into the same category as me!) As far as I understand, this is a second “edition” of A Perfect World, the first one lacked SPF.

For those of you who don’t know, Origins is paraben, mineral oil, paraffin and other nasty stuff free!

This is what the moisturizer looks like out of the packaging:

It’s really hard to find anything wrong with this product. I do admit, I like having it in a tube more than a jar. I simply believe that it doesn’t come into as much contact with air being in a tube, thus keeping it’s qualities and main features.

I was also rather smitten by it’s expiration date – it’s good for 24 months (that’s 2 whole years), it’s just always seemed to me that such natural products as this one, should last a lot less (compare: The Balm’s expiration date is 6 months after opening).

Overall, this moisturizer is getting a 4 out of 5 stars in my book! And hopefully Origins will have more products like this for other skin types. Have you tried it? What do you think?

Cheers,

Z

Xoxo,

Z

Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Review

Being the coupon freak that I am, I couldn’t pass the $7 extra bucks offer from CVS last week – Spend $10 on Physician’s Formula cosmetics – get $7. So I went and got a few things. Today I am going to review a PF palette.

The one I got is called Pop Green Eyes. My eyes are green/gray, and since there was no Pop Gray Eyes, I had to go with green. The other reason why I went with this palette, are the colors. Even though I own a Sephora Blockbuster and other eyeshadow palettes, this one has some nice shades of green, turquoise and purple. I also decided to get out of my make-up RUT of using brown/golden shades! So here is what I bough:

The brushes and the primer are mine, but I wanted to feature them in this picture, and here is why:

– First of all, I always apply eyeshadow over primer. The one I have is something I brought from Russia, but once that runs out, I will probably try out L’Oreal De-Crease Eye Shadow Base.

– Second, I usually don’t use the applicators that come with drug store bought kits. So this morning, as I was getting ready to go to a swap (the swap recap coming tomorrow), I reached for my favorite brush – the one with the black handle in the picture. To my frustration and disappointment the eyeshadow didn’t apply very well, stayed on the brush, and wasn’t bright at all! I had nothing better to do, but grab the applicator – and oh my gosh – it WORKED! Physician’s Formula applicator did WONDERS, plus it’s angled – so you can apply eyeshadow very neatly especially in the corner of your eye. I absolutely loved it! Now I am not sure how long this applicator will live for – I had some bad experience with those types in the past, where they brake after a week or two. But, let’s hope for the best.

– And finally – the smaller brush that you see in the picture (originally came with Lorac’s Social Beautifly palette) was perfect for applying the highlighter shades. And it’s a perfect size for it too!

The downside of the palette – I guess the fact that all of the shades can kind of mix together, but I have been dealing with the same thing with my Revlon palette, and you train yourself to be more careful after a week or so!

I hope this was helpful to some of you. Let me know if you’ve tried any of the other palettes!
