Monday Motivation

Monday motivation Monday motivation Monday motivation Monday motivation

With our kind of happening at the moment move, my new job, trying to figure out our way around a new city and everything else in between, I decided it would be wise to create some sort of a blog schedule to stick to. My Monday motivation is to figure what that schedule will be. I am leaning towards a two posts a week schedule, that will allow me to write one style and one beauty related post. I think this will be the easiest thing to do, since I can shoot an outfit over the weekend, as well as focus on a beauty product review or creating my monthly favorites round up. What do you guys think? I don’t want to aim for the moon at this point. I am preparing myself for an exciting, yet challenging stage in my life, and want to take things slow. If any of you have tips on how to do that, they would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to give up on blogging, as I am enjoying it immensely. However, I don’t want it to take over my free time.

Sam and I went to Milwaukee for a hot second over the weekend. It was a really short trip, we left Minneapolis on Saturday around 8.30 am, and came back on Sunday around 6 pm. All we wanted to do is get keys to our new apartment, and move in as much stuff as we fit the night before into his mom’s car (which is a lot bigger than ours). When we were unpacking, some of the boxses’ contents was a total surprise to me. You see, the stuff has been packed since end of May, early June, so I forgot what was in what box. And the only labeling I did was write “Fragile” on some of the boxes.

One of the reasons I am really excited about our new apartment, and why we decided against getting a house, is the opportunity to downsize. I have piles of stuff I’ve been planning on using in my DIY projects, clothes that I will “someday” wear, office supplies, etc. I think I’ve been able to downsize significantly since we sold our house, but I want to organize everything as well. That’s why a couple weeks ago I bought two books on the KonMari method. I will definitely keep you posted on how that goes. So stay tuned.

All of the photos in the post are from my photoshoot for ALACLOTH! I have some rad jeans one too! I will definitely miss my Minneapolis blogger/social media family, so if you are in Milwaukee or know someone there, send them my way! I am a firm believer that blogger friends are the best friends!

Vintage Vest

vintage vest vintage vest vintage vest

This vintage vest is unique, a bit obnoxious, and anything but ordinary. I haven’t braved to wear it to any of my classes or out in public yet, I just need some more time 😉 My friends have called me Pioneer Woman in it, and mentioned that some of the photos are fit for an “Explore North Dakota” billboard campaign. Regardless, this vintage vest is a gem, and I am bringing it to Milwaukee with me!

Meanwhile I am listening to Ophelia by Lumineers on repeat, binge watching Girls at night, and waiting to register for my Accounting class. Happy Wednesday!

Knit Skirt

This knit skirt doesn’t get out that much, but likely it’s still cold in Minneapolis, so I can wear it out a few more times before spring finally gets here.

Last week I was on break and it started off with a trip to Milwaukee with Lexi, meeting new friends (here is looking at you Sarah and Kaitlyn), exploring new neighborhoods, and catching up with old friends. Fascinated by lake Michigan, I didn’t want to leave. Only 4 more months left.

In the next few months I will be trying to cross some stuff off my Minneapolis bucket list, so stay tuned for that and follow along!

<3 Coffee

Happy Spring Break! I am off to Milwaukee on Monday to do some apartment searching with a friend, neighborhood research for myself, and meeting some amazing friends from Instagram. I can’t wait to be done with school and move. This week felt odd and frustrating. Knowing myself I need a change of scenery, and some Collectivo coffee, which is exactly what I am doing 🙂

It’s been refreshing to hang out with some apparel majors this week, versus my regular retail crowd. And I wanted to mention my friend Sinead’s blog. It’s called Sinead Odessa, which is her name 😉 and I highly encourage you to check it out if you get a chance!

Style wise I’ve been leaning towards skinny jeans and graphic tees, I can never seem to get enough of those, so I made this roundup of my favorite looks with black skinny jeans, they are all pretty basic, which makes them so much more appealing.  This coffee tee got so much love on Instagram yesterday, that I think I’m going to feature it in another post next week!

My #MomentsofChic with Piperlime

2014-12-08 08.40.48

Today I am bringing you a new post in collaboration with Piperlime. You may have seen other blog posts and followed the #momentsofchic hashtag on Instagram (if you haven’t you totally should).

I was so excited to pair the Joe’s Boyfriend Slim Jeans with this white Schaefer Top by Rachel ZoeI am absolutely in love with the stitching detailing of the top, that creates it’s own white on white pattern. And the jeans are seriously one of the stylish and most comfortable ones I’ve owned.

This semester I tool a Fashion Ethics and Consumption class, and there was a questionnaire in one of the lectures, and one of the questions was – Have you ever bought something that had rips and was distressed on purpose. Well, now I have. I personally think that this is the way to go with boyfriend jeans. You need that distressed look to make the jeans look yours, feminine and stylish.

2014-12-08 08.42.45

I paired the jeans and the top with my hand-made crochet scarf (click for instructions here), as well as my favorite studied booties, Rebecca Minkoff 5 zip mini bag and a leaf locket necklace.

I thought there were no boyfriend jeans to fit my body without making me look ridiculous. Even though I have that slightly boyish figure. But these jeans made it so easy. So after wearing them non-stop for a week, and I will probably continue wearing them this week as well, here are

Some tips on wearing boyfriend jeans:

1. Choose a darker wash. It’s not that the dark is slimming, in my opinion it just looks better on most of us.

2. Choose distressed. Like I mentioned before rips, tears and frays are going to be your new favorite.

3. If you are like me (not too big of a butt), go a size up. I know that’s not something you normally hear. But that extra size adds on to the slouch and the lower hanging crotch that I like so much. (I can also take these jeans off without having to unbutton or unzip them 😉 )

4. Cuff or uncuff. That’s up to you, I like them cuffed with sneakers, booties, and slip ons, also sandals and flats. But I also think boyfriend jeans look extremely cool uncuffed with a pair of heels or platforms.

5. Oversize the top, maybe just a little. You know I am into the oversized trend, and I love when sweaters or tops are a bit big on me. So if you are not top heavy (34B over here), I say do it!

So check out my look, and all the pieces, and get ready for more style tips. DIY posts and our Christmas Tree story later this week!

Sweatshirts in Style – Olivia Palermo Inspired

So while we are getting more and more inches of snow by the hour, let me show you the look inspired by Olivia Palermo from a couple weeks ago. I wore my outfit to the Minnesota Blog Conference in October. I love the conference, mainly because I get to meet new people and reconnect with my old friends. And I can’t wait for next year already!

More stylish sweatshirts below. The banana one is definitely a favorite.

Monochrome Me {Thrift Style Thursday}

This red dress won by popular vote and by default, based on what you said on Twitter anyways. I do have more red items in my wardrobe these days, especially after my last thrift haul. And when Monochrome theme Thrift Style Thursday came around, I thought to myself, why not go all red? I know it may seem like too much, but I am also showing ways and offering tips on how to tone it down, so sit tight!

The dress is Calvin Klein, size 4P, I am lucky like that, I can pull of petites. But of course this dress is sleeveless, which makes it so much easier. It also creates a nice waistline, thanks to the cut. And the best part is – it was brand new from Goodwill for only $8.99.

The shoes have already been featured in last week’s Thrift Style Thursday post, and I am madly in love with them! They are a darker shade of red, which helps create some contrast, unlike the clutch. Yes, the clutch matches the dress in color almost to a T. I won it in a giveaway over 3 years ago. I wish I used it more often.

Not so sure about the whole red thing? Throw a different colored blazer on top and/or put on another pair of shoes. Trust me it makes all the difference? Want to see?

Would you wear a monochrome outfit? Why or why not? Exciting news, we have started a Pinterest board for all of the Thrift Style Thursday bloggers! Make sure to check it out and follow if you like! Also don’t forget to check other girls’ posts!

When Peter Pilotto meets Midnight Velvet boots, and I end up staying at my in-laws house for a weaken, outfits like this happen!

The dress is one of the three pieces from the Peter Pilotto for Target collection that I bought last Sunday, and to my excitement, it doesn’t need too much styling! It speaks for itself. Heck it almost wears itself 🙂

The boots are from Midnight Velvet, and I only got them, because I CAN’T WAIT FOR SPRING. I am actually willing to skip spring and go straight into summer! That’s how desperate I am. Plus, I live in Minnesota, so I am going to fit right in in these boots this summer. The downside is they are faux leather, I personally prefer real leather footwear. But they are white, floral and cowboy. And if you can tell, they are high enough for me to prance around in all that snow. Another thing that bothers me about these boots is the smell. I’ve been sent a purse before that had a similar problem, and it took forever to get rid of it, in fact, I think it still smells, laying there in my garage (I am embarrassed to donate it!)

Anyways, I can’t wait to style these boots once spring comes around, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog! I have a couple exciting giveaways coming up! And if you want to, check out the Midnight Velvet on Social Media: FacebookTwitterGoogle+YouTubeBeautyBlogPinterest
