This red dress won by popular vote and by default, based on what you said on Twitter anyways. I do have more red items in my wardrobe these days, especially after my last thrift haul. And when Monochrome theme Thrift Style Thursday came around, I thought to myself, why not go all red? I know it may seem like too much, but I am also showing ways and offering tips on how to tone it down, so sit tight!
The dress is Calvin Klein, size 4P, I am lucky like that, I can pull of petites. But of course this dress is sleeveless, which makes it so much easier. It also creates a nice waistline, thanks to the cut. And the best part is – it was brand new from Goodwill for only $8.99.
The shoes have already been featured in last week’s Thrift Style Thursday post, and I am madly in love with them! They are a darker shade of red, which helps create some contrast, unlike the clutch. Yes, the clutch matches the dress in color almost to a T. I won it in a giveaway over 3 years ago. I wish I used it more often.
Not so sure about the whole red thing? Throw a different colored blazer on top and/or put on another pair of shoes. Trust me it makes all the difference? Want to see?
Would you wear a monochrome outfit? Why or why not? Exciting news, we have started a Pinterest board for all of the Thrift Style Thursday bloggers! Make sure to check it out and follow if you like! Also don’t forget to check other girls’ posts!
When Peter Pilotto meets Midnight Velvet boots, and I end up staying at my in-laws house for a weaken, outfits like this happen!
The dress is one of the three pieces from the Peter Pilotto for Target collection that I bought last Sunday, and to my excitement, it doesn’t need too much styling! It speaks for itself. Heck it almost wears itself
The boots are from Midnight Velvet, and I only got them, because I CAN’T WAIT FOR SPRING. I am actually willing to skip spring and go straight into summer! That’s how desperate I am. Plus, I live in Minnesota, so I am going to fit right in in these boots this summer. The downside is they are faux leather, I personally prefer real leather footwear. But they are white, floral and cowboy. And if you can tell, they are high enough for me to prance around in all that snow. Another thing that bothers me about these boots is the smell. I’ve been sent a purse before that had a similar problem, and it took forever to get rid of it, in fact, I think it still smells, laying there in my garage (I am embarrassed to donate it!)
Anyways, I can’t wait to style these boots once spring comes around, and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog! I have a couple exciting giveaways coming up! And if you want to, check out the Midnight Velvet on Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, BeautyBlog, Pinterest
And don’t forget to check out my Social Media! I am especially active on Twitter
And check out my Mavatar collections:
I’ve been sick for the past few days, and to be honest, it was a good few days to spend at home, but I am so glad for it to be over! Besides there is only 5 more days of work, and my trip to New York is only 10 days away!
Sending you all some snow love today!
Leave Nothing to chance is not only a great saying (esp. for control freaks like me), but a great app that has recently been launched by Blue Nile. It’s a fun holiday game, that doesn’t only help you pick out a gift for yourself, or a friend, but also adds little fun comments and creates your personality profile. And since I’ve been a sucker for filling out personality tests since I was a teenager (seriously, that was one of my favorite pass times), I decided to give this one a go. Besides, it was going to show some amazing jewelry suggestions in the end! All that can be shared on social media. That way, your friends and family can select the perfect gift – no more guessing! It’s a lot of fun to play, and eliminates the need for those often missed subtle hints.
Want to see what I got?
After questions like:
… and …
I was ready to see my results:
I loved the way the app is so holiday inspired, it puts you in a great mood right away! And when you see the final results it just makes you go Awww! Now I don’t personally agree with the jewelry choices the app made for me, but I do love my Blue Nile Leaf earrings and arrow necklace!
So if you decide to go through with the questionnaire, let me know how accurate it was for you, and whether or not you like the jewelry suggestions it made! The best news is, if you participate and do the app questionnaire, you will also be entered to win a three carat diamond tennis bracelet on the website!
Now a Blue Nile giveaway is great, but a Being Zhenya one is awesome too! So I am giving away $50 to Blue Nile and you have a little over a week to enter!

And on top of all this, here is a code for 10% off on all of your Blue Nile purchases – BNAPP2013 - valid until December 31, 2013!
Good luck and happy holiday shopping!
Did you go shopping on Black Friday? If yes, what did you buy?
1.Cut out the shape you want your necklace to be from leather of your choice.
2. Add embellishments (I had these gold studs left over from one of my previous DIYs left) using fabric fusion glue (trust me, it works wonders on leather!)
3. Find an old necklace that you haven’t worn in years and remove the chain.
4. Using tools (or in my case tweezers and a nail) make holes in the leather and insert the new chain links through the holes.
5. Wear loud and proud! Just make sure the fabric fusion glue dries first
Happy Friday and have an amazing weekend!

When picking out today’s theme, we went through a lot of options, but settled on hats! And I knew exactly the one I wanted to show off! If you follow my *ahem* writing career, you’ve probably read my posts for the Goodwill Blog . I featured this hat in the very first one! And because it is so fabulous, I will share it today, it only makes sense, because it snowed a whole lot here in Minneapolis!
I found this vintage hat at the Hopkins Goodwill and just couldn’t pass it! I had to have it, even though it is a tad bit too big! Well, I can always grow more hair, I thought, paid for the hat and went home! But isn’t it a beauty? It’s even worth having just for a collection sake!
And look at the details inside, the craftsmanship, the bow! Ah, I am in love!
What kinds of hats are you wearing this fall/winter? Do tell! And don’t forget to check out other girls’ posts!

Happy Thursday everyone!
I love a plain white T and jeans outfit, and it only makes sense that it’s my go-to look on the weekends! It’s comfy, chic and I can’t even tell you how important a great pair of jeans is!
I have finally convinced Sam to climb to the top of the stairs at the south side of Main Street in Stillwater! And it was amazing! Oh the view! We also took a walk around the block at the top of the hill. I don’t know what it is about Stillwater, maybe it reminds me of New Jersey, the first place I really lived in in the US… but I love it! It’s just so historical compared to everything in Minnesota! Sam says he’d rather stay on the west side though

I hope you enjoyed the outfit and the pictures! Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for Thrift Style Thursday post Girls and I will be styling hats!
Sewing isn’t just a fun hobby that I do on the side, it is an essential part of my personal style. There are a few items that I’ve made myself that really make me proud. I am like a nerdy child at the 5th grade science fair who can’t stop showing off what she’s made! That’s how I was with my scarf from yesterday’s post and well, that’s how I am going to be with my cape today, though this one is a little bit overdue.
I made this cape last year from wool fabric that I thrifted at Steeple People. And the pattern and inspiration came from an amazing book called DIY Couture by Rosie Martin.
The cape was extremely easy to make, I did though have a little hard time with the lining, due to the light weight fabric that I picked. And instead of buttons or buckles, I am using my Grandmother’s vintage pin to keep it intact.
I am sure you’ve also noticed the new addition to my dining room wall! Yes, I have finally finished this jewelry rack. Back in the apartment days, Sam and I used it for what it was supposed to be, a rack in our bathroom. But after we moved into our house, there really was no room for it. So it hung there in the garage looking pretty miserable. Until I came across a similar rack upcycle idea by Danielle. And I knew what had to be done! I quickly found some shabby chic looking fabric and mod podged it to the wood. The sides got decorated with nails, and pegs got primed, painted and touched up with some acrylic gold.
Thank you, Danielle, for the idea, and thank you for reading the post! Tomorrow I will be presenting at the Minnesota Blog Conference in St Paul, so if you are going to be there stop by and say hi!
I woke up today to a gray cloudy sky, rain and a chilly breeze coming from the kitchen window. Fall is here, I thought. But the more depressing the weather gets, the brighter I want to dress. And this cobalt blue dress that I thrifted a few weeks ago was perfect! I paired it up with my black suede boots, and a brown quilted jacket, grabbed my Philip Lim tote bag, and was out the door to run some Saturday errands!
