Thrift Style Thursday Link-Up // July 7 // Blonde Power

Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power

Last week I mentioned my Schoola haul. This week I really wanted to share this Blonde Power shirt by Pam + Gela and how I styled it for Thrift Style Thursday. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve gotten so many compliments on this tee, I want to wear it every day!

Heels and vintage Lee jeans cut offs made sense, and the location was more than perfect. Alacloth took me to Milwaukee street, located right across from the Seward Pizza Luce. If you’ve never been to Milwaukee street, you must go! It’s 2 blocks of pedestrian historic heaven, charm and beauty. You won’t want to leave!

And of course the fact that it’s called Milwaukee street, and I am moving to Milwaukee made complete sense. Sadly, it was probably my last photoshoot with Alacloth for a while, but she’s promised to visit me in Wisconsin. Plus we are already planning on going thrifting there!

I hope you all had a happy and safe 4th of July! I’ve never been so busy over a holiday weekend before. I went to a BBQ, a housewarming, fireworks in Bloomington, and at Steph’s house. Hung out with so many friends, I couldn’t have asked for more! We did have a scare when one of the neighbors lost their dog, but they found her today all safe and sound!

I think it’s time for the link up! Share your outfits below! I can’t wait to check them out!

Jean Jacket

A jean jacket can make or break an outfit. I have been wearing this one by Silver Jeans Co a lot lately. I think it’s the combination of sweatshirt sleeves and denim vest that really appeals to me in this one. The denim part of the jacket is distressed, the sleeves are made of light and soft fabric, the hood is detachable. What more can I want?

Chan and I had a lot of fun shooting this look in downtown Minneapolis, especially in front of all Nicollet Mall construction and demolition. I have to say photos in front of the Stop sign are my favorite. They remind me that sometimes we need to stop, look around, capture the moment. With only about a month left in Minneapolis, that’s definitely on my list!

Denim Vest

Continuing my summer denim style series with Silver Jeans, I have a new look to share with you! Denim vest is my new favorite summer trend. I especially like this Silver Jeans distressed one. It’s a perfect combination of stretch and color. I’ve been seeing these worn all sorts of different ways, but I especially like to wear mine over a midi dress. Next I want to try wearing it as a top with a skirt!

Do you wear denim vests? How do you style them?

Over the weekend Sam and I drove out to Milwaukee to look for apartments, and I am so happy we found the one we liked! More details later, happy Tuesday!

Black Jumpsuit

Last night my friend McCall and I went to a Clothing Collective fundraiser at Aria that in collaboration with Wipe Every Tear is committed to ending the sex trade in the Philippines. You could shop donated clothes, listen to live music, grab bites to eat, and be social.

McCall wore an amazing jumpsuit that reminded me of a similar black one I got from The Mint Julep Boutique, and wore to Chan’s party a couple weeks ago. So I am sharing both on the blog today!

We ended our night getting beer with Sam at Inbound Brew Co!

I hope you have a Happy Friday! Here is to friends, black jumpsuits, beer and $12 worth of cheese that I ate last night 😉

Camel Skirt

This camel skirt from H&M has quickly become my favorite this spring. Its cut and the flare help add the otherwise missing curves to my body. I didn’t plan on having my picture taken that day, it was a shoot for Megan, but you don’t have to twist my arm when it comes to photos 😉 And of course the photographer was Chan!

Like I mentioned earlier on Instagram, this jumpsuit is probably the toughest piece of clothing I’ve ever had to pull off! I got it from wonderful ladies at Rae Lynn’s Boutique, in Indianapolis. Styling it is still a challenge, but I am determined to make it work this summer!

Perfect Summer Accessories with Uncommon Goods

uncommon goods jewelry

Summer is so so close, I can almost feel, taste and smell it! And taking my summer clothes out is probably my absolute favorite part of the year. Nothing can stop me from changing out of my sweatshirts and  cardigans into dresses and rompers! Not even the finals coming up! However, summer clothes aren’t the only thing, accessories, especially jewelry are definitely at the top of my priority wardrobe needs. Having packed most of my things away (by accident or in a packing frenzy that come and go), I discovered myself with only a couple pieces to wear, one of them being my FitBit. I quickly decided that it won’t do. So when Uncommon Goods reached out to do another collaboration, I was more than happy to pick out some new summer accessories.

hand made jewelry

I chose two pieces by the same designer, Nancy Nelson. One of the pieces is a Love Birch Cuff that I’ve been eyeing for almost 2 years now, ever since I learned about Uncommon Goods. And the other one is a Bee Love Necklace. See there is a romantic side to me, you just didn’t know about it 😉 It’s not blue lipstick and beanies every day after all!

If you’ve never heard of Uncommon Goods, they are a company out of Brooklyn, New York. UncommonGoods endeavors to feature unique jewelry, designer décor, tabletop items and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment without harm to animals or people. All of their operations are run out of the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, they pride themselves in paying their lowest-paid seasonal worker 50% or more above the minimum wage. Uncommon Goods support and provide a platform for artists and designers, half of what they sell is made by hand. Most of the jewelry products, home décor and table top items are created right here in the USA, and about one-third of the entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. Now you see why I love them?

One last thing, if you are looking for a unique Mother’s Day gift, look no further! They offer a great selection for under $50!

Celebrating Earth Day with Savers

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! As you know, I have always been passionate about thrifting and reusing, whether that includes refashioning, repurposing, or just getting that one last wear out of the item one more time, I hate seeing clothes go to waste.

Savers is celebrating Earth Month by launching its Rethink Reuse Campaign, you can use the hashtag #RethinkReuse on social media to support it. This campaign is focused on getting people to recognize the massive impact their clothing has on the environment and offering them the solution: To Rethink Reuse. It’s about highlighting a problem we might not even know to think about, and showing us that we can make a difference through reuse via shopping thrift or donating at their local Value Village store.

I included some interesting stats for your consideration:

  •        North Americans send 10.5 million tons of clothing to landfills every year. Ninety-five percent of these items can be reused or recycled.
  • It takes over 700 gallons of water to make one new cotton T-shirt. More than you drink in five years. Now that’s a wardrobe malfunction.
  • It takes over 1,800 gallons of water to make one new pair of jeans. That should scare the pants off you. Don’t stop wearing pants. Just start to Rethink Reuse.
  • The average person creates over 80 pounds of textile waste per year. Landfills shouldn’t be laundry piles.

As you know with the move coming up, I have been frantically downsizing, donating and cleaning out my closet, but last week I had an hour of time to kill before the NYX event, so I stopped by the Bloomington Savers. The pictures are of the items I thrifted there, enjoy!

Spring Denim Must-Haves with Orvis

Disclosure: “I received complimentary product from Orvis for this review.”

I don’t want to jinx it, but I am pretty sure spring is finally coming to Minnesota. The forecast said it will be above 70 degrees for 3 days in a row, and I am ready for the warmth. I think living in the midwest for the past 5 years made me want to talk about the weather more than anything, or I am just becoming boring.

However, one thing that never gets boring is the denim on denim trend. And this spring I am adding yet another chambray shirt to my collection, but this time I paired it up with a skirt. Are you surprised that I have taken a step away from my usual skinny jeans? I still have an X amount of those in my closet, even after I’ve been spring cleaning all week last week 😉

Both the skirt and the shirt are from Orvis. I am kind of in like with their spring line. And while they are an outdoorsy company that offers a lot of hiking clothes, there are pieces perfect for everyday wear. Also, just to remind you, I did hike around Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs two summers ago in a skirt!

So having said all this, I hope you enjoy my look, and my inner 8th grader that I had to channel by wearing the Adidas sneakers along with my Free People crop top 😉

Make sure to enter the contest Orvis is having for all the readers! They will randomly select 10 winners from all program entries and will send out the $100 gift cards. The contest runs through May 2, 2016!

Vintage Vest

vintage vest vintage vest vintage vest

This vintage vest is unique, a bit obnoxious, and anything but ordinary. I haven’t braved to wear it to any of my classes or out in public yet, I just need some more time 😉 My friends have called me Pioneer Woman in it, and mentioned that some of the photos are fit for an “Explore North Dakota” billboard campaign. Regardless, this vintage vest is a gem, and I am bringing it to Milwaukee with me!

Meanwhile I am listening to Ophelia by Lumineers on repeat, binge watching Girls at night, and waiting to register for my Accounting class. Happy Wednesday!
