NYFW SS15 Day 1 Recap

Here we go! Full on fashion, my favorite looks and recap of day one. Even though I am not attending or volunteering at Fashion week as I planned this September, #NYFW is at the top of my hashtag search on Twitter and Instagram.

The day started off with Nicholas K show, and with an exception of a few looks, the collection is very bad ass. Black, fringe and drapery are the three words that come to mind when I think of this collection. And yes, I would wear all of these!

BCBGMaxAzria is where I want to go next, that’s the show I caught live right before my morning class, and that set the mood for the day. The bohemian-chic-luxe looks with fluttering silk dresses in delicate pastel shades that appeared on the runway to the best version of 500 miles I have ever heard, took my breath away. I want to wear nothing, but maxis in the spring of 2015. Practical? Not so much, but…

Richard Chai created a collection full of neons and blues, with a good mix of darker, deeper colors in between. Shorter shorts and stripes for guys. Some color blocking for ladies.

Tadashi Shoji was once again very regal, very chic, flowy, but more structured than BCBGMaxAzria. Overall amazing, and if Disney would ever agree to that, I think Tadashi should design all of the princess outfits!

Thanks to Desigual I now know that floral crowns can be taken to new heights. And that pastel hair will transition into spring of 2015.

Thank you Marissa Webb for all the black and white looks, for structured jackets and that pop of red in the end.

And this is all the recap I have energy for today! And to end the post here is a quote from Joan Rivers whom I share “immigrant mentality” with. I’ll miss you Joan!

MBFW Day 7 Recap + Favorites

On the seventh day of New York Fashion week Bibhu Mohapatra opened with beautiful dresses:

Michael Kors‘ menswear pieces were more appealing to me as a woman:

Midi dresses at Nanette Lepore impressed! Midi skirts are one thing, but dresses are absolutely another!

Kaufmanfranco presented, among other designs, several different little black dresses:

Boss was classic, well cut and structured, mostly midi:

Neon and pattern exploded today at Betsey Johnson show! What can I say, that fashion star will outshine anyone! Is it wearable? You decide!

Even though fall and winter seasons are often perceived as dull and dark, sometimes the soul longs for color, and that’s what Clover Canyon presented.

Anna Sui brought more patterns, and color to add to the pool! Today was definitely more vibrant than any other day at New York Fashion Week:

Emerald city called, Zang Toi, they left a message, that they are absolutely in love with your collection!

Worst hair of the day goes to wigs at Cutecircuit:

Happy Fashion Week my loves, it’s almost over!

MBFW Day 6 Recap + Favorites

How is it possible that there are only 2 more days of New York Fashion Week 2014 left? That makes me sad, and happy at the same time. Sad because it’s going to be over so soon, and happy because it’s going to move to other wonderful cities across the globe!

Tory Burch‘s armory inspired collection was a great beginning of the day! The collection was actually inspired by her parents armory, and for some reason I always feel like when it’s family or travel related, the collection is more personal. It’s something the designer let into his/hers imagination, what they accepted and received and what came out in the end. The abundance of dragon and equestrian prints, and Anna Wintour in the front row will definitely add value to the collection.

Presentation by J.Crew was a huge hit on Social Media. The looks were wearable, shoes of course were a lust!

Badgley Mischka showed both every day wear and gowns. The fur hats were my favorite part as you may have already guessed. And yes, one of my friends may have referred to them as Russian Mafia in the house, but they are fit for a queen!

I went out for lunch and coffee with a friend today, and missed the Diesel show. And even though I was kind of upset about it, turns out I didn’t miss much!

Libertine was very interesting and entertaining, but more DIY than I was hoping for it to be.

Fascinating embellishments and feathery coats that are the future were presented at Jenny Packham show:

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela showed his true genius, so did Sean Nicholas Savage, who performed there as well! Do you like to see live performances before/during/after the show? Seems like there’s been quiet a few this week! What do you think?

Pamella Roland‘s collection was full of energy, very structural, almost architectural. Very New York. She took her final bow with her loved ones, who were also in the front row supporting her during the show.

Oscar de la Renta showed his edgy side, and we liked it!

I love watching student shows. I feel like fashion students are like children, their minds haven’t been corrupted by the adult world yet! They let their imagination soar! The Art Institute show gathered 13 designers from different locations throughout the US, and they got the opportunity of a life time!

I think I am going to round up for the night! I hope you enjoyed today’s looks as much as I did!

Carolina Herrera turned back time, and showed us looks from darkest, winter-like, to lightest and brightest aka Indian summer fall 2014.

Tommy Hilfiger took us on a Mountain Vacation:

While Dennis Basso impressed us with his gowns and furs:

Milly took layering to a completely different level, but the black dresses were the true gem of the collection:

MBFW Day 4 Recap + Favorites

I can’t believe it’s already day 4 of New York Fashion Week. Of course I got my own fashion fix today when I shopped the Peter Pilotto collection at Target! And in honor of Custo Barcelona show, I wore my Custo Barcelona jacket 😉

The day began with Lela Rose. Her dresses were stunning. But the black and white rose print fabric that she used in some of her looks was above and beyond!

Lela-Rose Lela-Rose

DKNY showed us leather sweatpants, D embellished jackets and shirts, and a good amount of fur.

Katya Zol‘s Mongolia inspired collection was a perfect blend of Fashion and Culture. The flowy silhouettes, golden accessories that gave the word “chunky” a second meaning, the pre-show presentation, it was all thought through, all aligned, a true collection!

Custo Barcelona brought back the mirror aviators, and bangs!

Diane Von Furstenberg celebrated the dress that started it all. Her show ended with gold confetti. Diane, you are golden, and you will always be my inspiration!
DVF DVF DVFVivienne Tam is another designer that’s close to my heart and is in my wardrobe. Her animal prints are everything I want to wear in the fall.

MBFW Day 3 Recap + Favorites

Today’s been filled with meetings and friends, both old and new, and although I was originally planning on spending the day with my sick husband, I ended up spending it elsewhere (more on how I spend my weekends on Monday + a surprise for you!)

I was only looking forward to one show today (compare to 5 tomorrow) – Mara Hoffman’s! How? Have I lost it? It’s only day 3! Even though I am a huge New York Fashion Week fan, I like taking days off, and taking breaks. Who am I kidding, the MBFW is constantly streaming at my house!

Ruffian started the day with some gorgeous colors:

Thank you, Adeam, for this beautiful skirt! Finally someone took the fur and put it somewhere other than where we are used to seeing it!

Herve Leger by Max Azria outdid themselves with this look. And thanks to them, I am now on a search for a perfect white coat!

While Jill Stuart had pieces perfect for work and play:

Lacoste was comfy/cas for both boys and girls:

Lee Jean Youn added more variations to the fur theme, as well as spiky heels, leather straps and a little something to help you stand out in the crowd:

What did you guys think of Fashion Week Day 3? What were some of your favorite designs?

On the side note: The amount of leather, fur and velvet that I am seeing is above and beyond what I expected, and by the end of day 3 is rather ridiculous!

Hair wise, I liked Emerson!

Son Jung Wan‘s golden lips also didn’t remain unnoticed!

MBFW Day 2 Recap + Favorites

Another fashion filled day has come and gone, and among all the events that happened today, there are a few that I want to highlight the most. Kate Spade presentation, the burst of color and funky attitude. And Rebecca Minkoff show that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!

But let’s start from the beginning – Zimmerman presented a lot of perfect for layering pieces, that can also be worn as single statement and have the entire outfit revolve around them!

Rebecca Valance‘s looks were directly to the point. The combination of straight lines, simplicity, and wearability was more than 100% present.

Carmen Marc Valvo’s texture play was outstanding. The bold red-orange piece couldn’t scream fall more, than it already does, and secretly make me want to go trick-or-treating. And of course fur is another personal favorite of mine!

Since I couldn’t shut up about Rebecca Minkoff‘s show all day, let’s see what she’s got planned for fall 2014. First of all the boots. These are the only over the knee boots that aren’t tacky or stripper, the only ones I can see myself wearing. The only ones, and of course they are made by RM! Plus the concept of wearing 2 shoulder bags at a time! I am definitely going to need some Rebecca in my life!

What were some of your favorite Day 2 looks?

Have a great weekend and come back tomorrow for Day 3 recap!

You should never wear a red shirt with black polka dots because your friends will call you a lady bug

New week has come, and the polka dot trend popped up everywhere on fashion blogs. Ever since I joined Bloglovin’ and Lookbook, I’ve been able to keep track of weekly trends much, much better!

Fashion is like karma – what goes around, comes around. Polka dots have been around several times, today is when they return.

Even for people like me, who refuse to buy new clothes, and shop consignment instead, trends are a big deal. And later on in the day, when I will head to my favorite Salvation Army with one of my girlfriends, I will be trying to spot some cute polka dots wear!

Polka dots originally remind me of clowns, and circus (hence the title of the blog post), but they can be a lot more graceful and feminine. I had a professor in college, who said that polka dots are very sexually appealing to men. So if you are looking for that special someone, may the polka dots help you!

Seems to me a polka dotted dress goes really well with the red lip!

In spite the fact that polka dots have been around for decades, there are plenty of designers, who included this fab print into their FALL 2011 collection.

Here is some from Marc Jacobs:

Jason Wu (who will be collaborating with Target this upcoming Spring!)

Stella McCartney has also jumped on the polka dots wagon:

Even Valention is there:

In spite of having a rather extensive clothing and accessory collection, I am 100% missing out on the polka dots. So last night, as I was preparing for the thrifting trip, gathering ideas from magazines and catalogues, I put “polka-dots” on the list!

We’ll see if I am lucky today! Hope to be, because I have a sweet 25% off coupon to use at the Salvation Army!

For those of you, who are in the same boat with me, and are completely missing out on the polka dots, here are some “must-haves” for this fall! Hurry, you only have a month and a half of fall left 😉

If you are one of those who want to play it safe, but would still like to follow the trend, go for the scarf or a headband. For the ones who are more of a risk taker – go for the shirt! And crazies like me are going to end up in polka dots from head to toe 🙂

Happy Tuesday!
