I will tell you upfront my favorite phrase of the night was: “Minneapolis is very hip, not quirky hip, but fashionably hip!” Yes, we are! And it was amazing to see it all last night at the Warby Parker Class trip event!

There was a band, there was food from Crave, there was designer eyewear and a school bus! I mean a real redesigned to be a store school bus (which will be staying in Minneapolis through September 1 by the way, and will be parked on Lagoon and Gerard! So make sure to go check them out!)

I have to mention 514 studios! What an awesome space! And I absolutely love the choice of North Loop district for the launch party – couldn’t have found a better place. It’s one of my favorite places in town!

Were you there? If so, drop me a line! I’m going back this Saturday 🙂

OOTD: One of a kind Italian Coat

Have you ever been to a garage sale? I have, once! When I lived in Manhattan. It wasn’t even a garage sale per-say. I found a craigslist ad for a sale in Murray Hill where everything was $1. Maybe I didn’t know any better, maybe I am just that fearless, but that was one of the best sales I’ve ever been to! That’s where I scored my one of a kind hand made coat, which came from a flea market in Italy! I always wear my Grandma’s vintage pin on it as well (sorry you can’t see it in the picture, it’s covered by a scarf) but here is what it looks like:

This past Saturday was a super warm day for November in Minneapolis too, low 50s high 60s, just a great day to be out and about. Of course I had to wear my favorite boots (Sam gave them to me for Christmas a few years ago!), I wore an Old Navy knit dress underneath, which has a super cute pleated skirt – you can see it peaking from under the coat! My scarf came from Goodwill outlet in St.Paul, it has a paisley pattern, and always reminds me of the popular Russian motifs.

Of course it’s back to being cold here now, Saturday night it thunder stormed (yeah welcome to Minnesota in November) and Sunday morning it snowed!

I hope you had a great weekend! What has the weather been like in your neck of the woods? Also any thoughts and comments on the Outfit are appreciated!

Cheers,

Zhenya

OOTD: A ZIG and a ZAG

How do you combine a $4 Adrienne Vittadini  thrifted dress, $10 sale shoes, $6 clearance sweater, a unique handmade jewelry piece, and a $400 Ralph Lauren purse in one outfit?

Here is how:

Hubs and I took the most peaceful walk through the North Loop neighborhood, and then along the River Front here in Minneapolis. The last photo was taken under the Hennepin Ave bridge! I hope you had an awesome Sunday and enjoyed the warm weather in the Cities 🙂

Cheers,

Thrifting for Treasure: It’s been too long!

It’s been over 2 weeks since I posted my last Thrifting for Treasure. I didn’t want to do one last week, because I only bought two things, but this week’s haul, along with things that I’ve gotten off of freecycle and the items I thrifted a week before, should, all together, make a great post. Plus I was really inspired by Daniel Troppy and his almost daily YouTube haul videos.

The two items I bought last week were a salmon colored Talbots skirt and a cotton Gap black dress. When it comes to skirts, I have noticed myself leaning more and more towards anything high waisted and pocketed. And I know that I have blogged about it a lot over the past few weeks, so I am not going to bore you, but put the pictures up instead!

This week’s thrifting experience was a lot a lot more productive. I went to the Salvation Army in the North Loop district and here is what I got:

A vintage Coach purse, this one was meant for my mother-in-law, but I am not sure if she wants it, or if I am ready to give it up yet, but it’s absolutely stunning! If you are going for a Coach purse – go for the leather ones, don’t buy the fabric bags, even though they cost over $300, they still look cheap!

Next I got a Calvin Klein Dress. I immediately fell in love with this dress, the different layers of fabric add fullness and volume to the skirt. Plus I love how stripes go in different directions.

Remember my post on Trench Coats? Inspired by my husband? Well I just happened to find two trenches at the Salvation Army, and one of them is reversible – so that’s like 3 trenches instead of two 😉

The first one is a Jones New York Coat:

Guess which side I will be rocking more often?

The next coat is actually a rain coat by Ralph Lauren. It’s a bright orange color, which will definitely make me stand out in the Minneapolis crowd!

The last two things were a little hard to explain, but since I got those sewing patterns off of Freecycle, I’ve been dying to get my hands on some new fabric. And well – turns out they sell fabric at the thrift store. What a pleasant discovery! If you are not sure if your thrift store sells fabric – check the linens/blankets section – that’s where I found these two amazing fabrics:

Now I am definitely asking for a sewing machine for Christmas.

I hope you all enjoyed these finds, if you’ve gone thrifting this week, make sure to leave a comment with a link to your blog below, I would love to check your finds out.

Have a great weekend,

xo

Feeling Fat

This is one of the reasons why I don’t like Saturdays, there is nothing to do. I have ESL lessons even on Sundays, and it kinda brightens up my day, and creates a bit more of a schedule.

This morning Sam and I watched Pirates of Silicone Valley:

and I was pleasantly surprised by that movie. I was also pleasantly surprised with myself with not falling asleep on it. Maybe it was the early morning, or the fact that I woke up at 6.20 am telling Sam that we forgot to set the alarm and that I don’t want him to be late for work. That’s when he told me: It’s Saturday, babe…

At around 11am we went for a walk around      the North Loop Neighborhood (aka Warehouse District) of Minneapolis. I promised to show Sam all the fun looking lofts.

On the way back I was starving, literally starving. And when I am starving, I get super cranky and start complaining. I think I am worse than a hungry man! I eventually made it home, and this is where hell broke loose.

I ate a chicken sandwich, 2 tomatoes, a granola bar and some trail mix. Not counting the multiple glasses of lemonade.

Later I decided to make a cake, Sam’s been asking me for one, and I was dying to try some of the new pans we’ve got as wedding gifts.

After a long consideration we decided to make carrot cake.

I made too much batter, and it all started overflowing in the oven, then the frosting wouldn’t turn out, and finally, the smell of butter made me so sick, I couldn’t stay in the apartment any longer. So I went outside for a walk, and someone was having their wedding reception in Loring Park, and it looked like so much fun…

I know today is just not my day, and most of you will probably tell me to go and shut my 117 lb mouth up, but I am feeling extremely fat and ugly today. So I am gonna go work out, and then finish my book. Thank God there is still some motivation left around!
