Beauty Brunch: Nails and Lips and Detox Drinks

Welcome to beauty brunch! Today’s post is all about nails and lips. Remember the teaser I posted last week featuring Sinful Colors Nail Polish? Today we are going to talk about those, as well as some of the other products that I have been using to keep the polish on my nails for more than a day.

Left to right: Solar Flux, Matte About Blue, Red Tired, Rubber Ball, Rain Rubber, Pipaya

These nail polishes have a very interesting grainy texture and remind me of a color my friend Luchessa sent me from Germany, but that one was specifically advertised as Sand Finish, while these say absolutely nothing on the bottle.

Of course the colors are brilliant and vibrant. I love the look and feel on my nails. As you may have guessed I wore blue and red ones for July 4th, and the color is still lasting. I am glad it didn’t chip on the first day. I have been making sure to use a top coat every time though. My new favorite is Sally Hansen base and top coat, as well as the Big Matte Top coat.

Another summer beauty must-have I want to talk about today is lipsticks, glosses and tinted balms. I have been using a lot of different products lately, and wanted to share my thoughts, looks and opinions on.

These two babies by NYX (Strawberry Milk and Narcissus) have been my go-to this season. I love the pale lip look, it compliments the tan.

A couple other lip favorites have been Maybelline Baby Lips in Oh Orange ($3.99 on

And Sigma Lip Gless in Get Ready ($10 on

And finally I want to share a couple detox drink recipes with you. If you are like me, plain water doesn’t taste good, so  that will help you stay hydrated and feel good.

Bring 72 oz of water and 4 tablespoons of stevia to a boil, add 4-5 stalks of rhubarb cut up into 1 inch slices, and let boil for 5 minutes. Let cool, add ice and enjoy!

1 thick slice of lemon, 5-6 freshly picked mint leaves, 5-6 freshly picked lemon balm leaves. Pour boiling water over everything, steep. Drink cold.

I hope you all had a great weekend! Thanks for reading!

Two Easy Spring Nail Looks for Under $2

With spring right around the corner, we all want to add more new colors to our wardrobe and makeup bag. I am no different. A couple weeks ago I “splurged” and bought these two mini polishes from Sally Beauty for $0.99 each.

I think pastels and nudes are perfect for spring, they add to your look without being overbearing and screaming “Look at my hands”.

I also wish all nail polish brands had a line of minis like these, because it’s a cheap and easy way for us to try out the colors. Plus I can never go through a bottle of nail polish before I have to toss it. Do you have any tips and tricks on how to make nail polish last longer?

As you can see manicures are not my credo, I have never been great at nail art, but I am challenging myself to learn, so get ready for more nail looks this year. Do you do nail art? Do you have any tips to share?

Beauty Swap 2013

I have never been a huge fan of beauty swaps, but when I saw one on Luchessa’s blog, I decided to give it a go! If you’ve never participated in a swap like that, it’s really easy, you just need to make time to talk to the other person, find out what they like, shop for them and mail it all out!
This swap’s rules were simple:
– $20 limit without shipping
– Mail everything out by May 25

The swap was international, but I got paired up with Julie, the author of Short and Sweet in Texas. Not only was I excited to save on some shipping, I was really excited to find out that Julie’s blog is a nail polish blog! I am kind of behind in that department, so she became my saving grace, updating my collection and nail care arsenal!

But before I show what I got, let me show what I sent:

And here is what I got:

2013-05-23 20.57.20

NYC Long wearing polish 152 Tudor City Teal

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 350 Pink a Card

Revlon 430 Whimsical

NYC Quick Dry Nail polish 201 Fashion Safari

Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser and Balm

Sally Hansen No more mistakes marker

I absolutely love the nude nail polish by NYC and the No More Mistakes Marker by Sally Hansen! I don’t know how I lived without that product!

Have you swapped anything recently?

The Magic Finger

When one of my friends was little, she often went over to this lady’s house, who was a beautician, and painted all of the children’s nails. But she always painted one a different color. That was their “magic finger”.

I only got to hear the story because I had a magic finger that day myself, well two actually, one for each hand 🙂

Anyways, I couldn’t miss out on this trend, especially working in cosmetics, when I have access to nail polishes by Chanel, Dior, NARS, and MAC 🙂 Would you?

I tried one of the navy blue nail polishes from MAC the other day, I believe it’s from their Wonder Woman collection back from spring 2011.

It’s this gorgeous blue right here:

Now you are probably wondering why am I holding an ESSIE nail polish? Well, that’s the polish I got on Saturday from a website called Klout, for free, and I thought that it was going to be the perfect amount of glitter to make my finger “magical”. The color is called “Stroke of Brilliance” and it’s from the Luxeffects collection. I am in love with that glitter, the fact that it’s all different sizes and distributes differently over every nail, so you never know what you are going to end up with.

I also think it’s going to go over my other ESSIE nail color “Bikini so Teeny” perfectly! Can’t wait to try 🙂

Though I will admit, sometimes I want to paint my middle finger, but that one is already magic as it is 🙂

PS. Don’t forget to check out Klout – it’s a pretty fun website, which measures your social media influence score and the higher the score, the more perks you get! I have another ESSIE nail polish coming my way! Can’t wait!
