Selling Clothes on ThredUp

Make Money with ThredUp

If you follow me on Snapchat (username @BeingZhenya) or Twitter, you know that I’ve been frantically cleaning out my closet. And not just because it’s spring cleaning, but also because I am moving and will be downsizing from a house to an apartment. To make parting with all my clothes easier, I wanted to be able to earn some money off of it. Having sold on Poshmark in the past, I knew I didn’t have time for listing and photographing every single item several times, that’s when I remembered about ThredUp.

ThredUp is a San Francisco based company that buys your gently worn or new clothes, accessories, shoes and sells them on their website. The process of selling to ThredUp is extremely easy.

thredupFirst you order the clean out kit, and if you would like for ThredUp to donate the items they don’t buy the kit costs $12.99, otherwise they recycle or donate the items making the kit free. I obviously went for the free kit option (I am on kit #4 at the moment).

The kit comes in the mail in a cute polka dot envelope. The insides contain the clean out bag, as well as the instructions on what to send, it’s very self-explanatory and easy. There is even a list of accepted brands for your convenience.

Then the fun part begins, you get to clean out your closet. This is my favorite part to be honest, because I actually get to go through everything and reevaluate my wardrobe. I have to be honest I can’t downsize it to 20-30 items, but if I am ever able to, I will let you know how I did it.

The bag is very roomy, you can fit a lot in it, I would say maybe an equivalent to a 10 gallon garbage bag to give you some idea!

Finally, you drop the bag off at the nearest FedEx location, or you can even have them pick it up from your house if you’d like.

Once the ThredUp team receives the bag they process it, and it can take anywhere between 2-3 weeks. This is probably the longest waiting period of the whole process, but they keep you updated via email, which is really nice.

After the bag has been processed, they will email you with your earnings. I made about $50 off my first bag, and $125 off my second one. I am curious to see what bags 3 and 4 will hold.

Payout is done via PayPal, and you have to wait 14 days before you can cash out, otherwise you can use the money to shop ThredUp if you wish. I will have a separate post about my shopping experience with them soon!

So there you go, a new great way to make money, clean out your closet and maybe even a reason to shop!

Let me know what you think of ThredUp!

What’s going on?

I quit my Beauty Advisor job at Macy’s to go be a toddler teacher. I couldn’t be more excited! Imagine working Monday through Friday, having weekends and holidays off. Oh, wait that’s how you all live and function out there. Anyways, I am one of you now! My husband couldn’t be more excited too!

We are also trying to decide whether to stay in our current apartment or move. After we saw the other available apartments in our building, my hopes went kind of down. We currently live in an apartment facing the highway, and I can’t sleep on top of the highway anymore, but we have a lot of sunlight throughout the day, the ceilings are high, and I have a ton of storage space. One of the apartments we saw yesterday was all carpeted, that immediately made me feel claustrophobic. The other one was nice, but the bedroom was facing the dumpster, there was no ceiling light in the living room, and no storage space. And they want $800 a month for those? UGH I am frustrated at the moment. So if you live in downtown Minneapolis and know of a great 1 Bedroom, let me know! Thanks!

I also decided to splurge and take advantage of my Macy’s discount for one last time, and get some stuff for myself (and tomorrow we are shopping for Sam). So I got some Origins!

I got Modern Friction and Clear Improvements, have already tried the first one, love it! The samples are of  VitaZing, which I own the full size of and LOVE! and Plantscription Anti-Aging serum! I also got this awesome Origins Mug, and you can decorate it the way you want to! That inside piece comes out and you can stick whatever you like in there 🙂 I tried Modern Friction last night and it’s amazing! The idea is kind of similar to Clinique’s 7 day scrub, but the ingredients are completely different, and so is the effect! Skin is more radiant and soft. Plus it’s not as harsh as Clinique’s scrub, and has a nice scent (as you know all Clinique products are unscented). Okay, you probably all think that I hate Clinique now, I don’t, it’s just there are things that work for some and don’t for others!

I think I will write more about why I decided to quit retail later this weekend, there are some things that I just want to share and get off my chest! One thing for sure – I’ll miss my awesome co-workers!

Have a fabulous day everyone and an awesome Labor Day Weekend!

Cheers,

Z

40 Kilos of Life

Yup, that’s how much I am allowed to bring. Technically, only half of those kilograms are going to be free. For those of you thinking in pounds, it’s 88lb alright! Well, plus the carry on, and everything that I can bring on myself. Still confused?

I am talking about my luggage! The thing is, I am moving, moving soon, moving fast, and I know that it’s going to be here before I know it. Some of my friends keep asking me when the flight is. I don’t know, I haven’t booked it yet. Now you are probably all wondering what do the 40 kg include? Clothes, my friends, mostly clothes.

I had to pack one of my suitcases today, because my uncle is going to take it to Moscow in his car, so that I don’t have to drag it there myself! Which is nice. So I pulled out most of my fall/spring and winter clothes. And now I also want to take some books, and some of my bridal magazines need to go back. I honestly have no idea how I’m going to do it all. But when I do, I will definitely let you know!

I wish the 2nd bag was free, alas, it’s not! But as you may have guessed, it’s going to be all summer clothes, and my make up, and accessories and all the other fun stuff.

I will keep you posted on what else I bring, and maybe will even make a video on YouTube!

How do you pack? Light? Not so light? Do you try and bring everything you need or just the basics? Let me know what you think!
