Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Mat Review

Cleaning makeup brushes is an important and necessary task, but if you are like me, it takes a while. The amount of brushes that I have, plus the amount of brushes that are tucked away, still in their packaging is seriously scary. It used to take me at least 20 minutes to wash the entire collection. Until I got the Sigma Brush Mat.

Sigma, if you didn’t know, is a Minnesota based company, and a YouTube sensation. Their brushes are known for incredible quality and ease of use, and the constantly changing makeup collection keeps surprising the customers with new colors. Anything to help us be more creative and bold when it comes to our makeup.

The brush mat has suction cups on the bottom, and attaches to your sink. The right side is for face brushes, while the left one is for eyes. There are seven different sections (textures) for cleaning, refining and rinsing the brushes. And it’s incredibly time saving. I was done washing all my brushes in under 10 minutes. My life has never been easier!

The Spa Brush Mat is $32 and is available on Sigmabeauty.com or at their Mall of America location.

One last thing, don’t clean your beauty blender using the mat, it will be destroyed!

Ashley Barlow Art

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 7.16.38 AM

Ashley Barlow is hands down one of my favorite local artists. I met her last year at the Edina Art Fair, and have been in love with her collages ever since. The vintage element, the combination of colors, the DIY element (stitching) and the thought process that goes into her pieces is amazing.

Edina art fair took place a couple weekends ago, and I naturally stocked up on some more Ashley Barlow for my house. You see, I have this vision for my living room, which I can’t wait to bring to life, and Sam is finally okay with it. So now it’s a waiting game! But I will definitely be sharing that with you, be it next week or next month!

Sweater Weather

2014-11-20 08.49.12 2014-11-20 08.52.06

While I am here buried under my homework, Minnesota is buried under the snow. Sweater weather is here, along with  heavy coat weather, and Sorel boots weather. They are saying it will rain on Sunday, which means Monday we are going to skate all over the highways!

I hope you are all doing well. I am having a little spending problem here… (seriously everywhere from MOA, to Goodwill to online!) So excuse me while I go shop online some more 😉 Unless you want to join me! Haha

How amazing are all these gloves, turtleneck sweaters and jackets?

Beauty Brunch: Camille Albane Salon in Maple Grove

IMG_5139-0.JPG
My last hair cut wasn’t the bomb. I had a really hard time with it. It looked good when my hair was curled, but when it was straight you could see it wasn’t blended enough and my top layer stuck over my bottom one a good 2 inches. And you know it’s not a good hair cut when you come to work and your co-teacher tells you that it looks weird. I do appreciate the honesty though.

So when an opportunity came up to visit the new Camille Albane Paris Salon in Maple Grove, I knew I couldn’t miss it.

Last Wednesday after a long and tiring day at work, I drove up 169 all the way to Maple Grove to this brand new salon. The calming white interior, Coldplay through the speakers and incredible staff helped me relax and forget about my troubles almost instantly.

Black capes are non-existent at Camille Albane Paris. You wear a white robe instead, which creates the atmosphere of a spa, and not a salon.

Tammy, the manager, and my stylist for the night was attentive and addressed all my concerns, answered all questions and was so much fun to talk to. She even saved my pink extension I got at Glamorama 😉

In addition to the haircut I also got a balayage. It was a little different for me, because Tammy didn’t wrap my hair in Saran Wrap, like they usually do at Aveda. The formula that they use doesn’t dry out as fast, so that wasn’t necessary.

Camille Albane Paris was founded in France, where they have the laboratories and create all of the products. The other salon in the United States is located in Boston.

Camille Albane is a breath of fresh air among the existing salons in the Twin Cities area. It’s new, different, and adds to the edge that we’ve been missing here in the Midwest.

And this Wednesday, August, 13 the salon has it’s official opening. I would love to see you there! So if you are planning on coming make sure to send your RSVP to RSVP@lolaredpr.com. Hope to see you there.

Summer of Style, Weddings and Fun

be-yourself-together

In less than a month Sam and I are taking a road trip to Colorado! Three years ago when we got married, my friend Doug walked me down the aisle. Now his daughter Dani is getting married and I am literally counting down the days.

I’ve known Dani since she was 13, we first met at a Russian Orphanage, which she’s travelled to with her dad. She immediately became popular with all the boys, because she was (and still is) an amazing soccer player. It’s hard to believe that she is getting married, but I can’t wait!

I know that a lot of you are attending weddings this summer, and I wanted to make this post both personal, and helpful. Target has always been my favorite place to shop for wedding gifts, and their #TargetWedding registry catalogue couldn’t be more helpful. So today I am going to share a few things with you, which I hope inspire you!

I have been loving the SodaStream, and I think it’s a perfect gift for everyone. Making your own drinks, experimenting with flavors, what can be more fun? Sharing them with friends and family at a party or a back yard gathering, that’s what! I am sure this will be a perfect gift for the newlyweds. I know I am throwing a party later this summer, once all of our home remodeling projects are over!

And how fun are these drinks dispensers? I love the chalk board one the most. Which one is your favorite?

Stillwater is probably one of my favorite places in Minnesota. It is nothing more than just a main street with antique shops and local boutiques. But it is so much more! Yesterday was Sam’s Birthday and we met his best friend in Stillwater for lunch at the Dock Cafe. And of course walked along the waterfront. It so happens that every last Sunday of October is a Trick-or-Treat day, so you see the cutest and weirdest costumes all over town. Great inspiration for those who still don’t know what they want to be for Halloween 😉 It reminded me of trick-or-treating in Manhattan, going around the local businesses, the dry cleaners, the bank… And, need I say this, the weather was gorgeous!

Happy Monday and have a great week!

Remember this dress?

It was my first refashion in the Refashion Runway project, and it was absolutely perfect for that weekend. The dress is American Apparel thrifted for $5 from the Hopkins Goodwill and still had the original tags :)
