Happy Holidays! Some of you may know that this year Sam and I finally got our first real Christmas tree! And of course I got to decorate it with all the thrifted ornaments and jingle bells I could find!

Stillwater is probably one of my favorite places in Minnesota. It is nothing more than just a main street with antique shops and local boutiques. But it is so much more! Yesterday was Sam’s Birthday and we met his best friend in Stillwater for lunch at the Dock Cafe. And of course walked along the waterfront. It so happens that every last Sunday of October is a Trick-or-Treat day, so you see the cutest and weirdest costumes all over town. Great inspiration for those who still don’t know what they want to be for Halloween ;) It reminded me of trick-or-treating in Manhattan, going around the local businesses, the dry cleaners, the bank… And, need I say this, the weather was gorgeous!

Happy Monday and have a great week!

{27 Dresses} Dress 10 : Are You Ready to Jump?

Remember this dress?

WP_20130804_009

It was my first refashion in the Refashion Runway project, and it was absolutely perfect for that weekend. The dress is American Apparel thrifted for $5 from the Hopkins Goodwill and still had the original tags :)

And it wouldn’t be fair to the girls if I didn’t share this picture:

Proskin Blogger Challenge update Week 3

Beach

Here it is you guys! Week 3 updates!

The numbers in parenthesis indicate difference from the previous week!)

Hips 32″ (-1″)
Top of thigh 20.5″ (-0.5″)
Widest part of thigh 21″ (-0.5″)
Above knee 14″ (-1″)
Below knee 13″ (-0)
Widest part of calf 13.5″ (+0.5)

As you can see there is some progress out there :) And I am definitely noticing a difference in my thighs. Yay! Working towards defining that gap between my thighs (yes, I’m one of those girls!)

Another thing that I’ve started is Tracy Anderson Metamorphosis program.

I did both cardio and a workout in my proskins last week and I’m not going to do it anymore. Sorry for the next piece of TMI but I sweat a lot, so I’ll keep wearing my leggings to bed, because that still gives the result.
I have been cheating for the past few days though and only doing the 30 minute workout skipping the cardio.

Plus everyone at work seems to be on the Paleo diet, so I’ve been cutting down my bread intake as well.
So here you have it! I spilt all my beans! Now you spill yours ;)
Have a great weekend,
X

What Happens When You Are STRANDed…

2013-08-13 19.32.42

I had an amazing opportunity to visit and get a hair cut in one of St Louis Park newest (opened in February) salons called STRAND!

I’ll give you a little tour and then talk more about the products and my hair cut experience!

Look at this beautiful space:

2013-08-13 19.21.13

All of the art is done by a local artist Adam Truman (he did the graffiti over at The Butcher and The Boar on Hennepin Ave in downtown Minneapolis, and that’s how I recognized him)!

2013-08-13 19.31.17

In fact when I was talking to Derek (owner) he said that he wanted to have as many local artists, designers, distributors involved as he could! And I really applaud him for keeping it local!

And of course I had to take a picture of the nail polishes:

My stylist Emily was a doll! We bonded right away talking about New York City, where we both used to live.

I personally think she did a great job! I am not necessarily picky about who does my hair. And I’ve been sticking to “layers” for as long as I can remember. I think the most important factor for me was for the layers to be blended in really well. And to keep as much of the length as possible, because it weighs my hair down and minimizes the frizz!

I loved the products that she used, Keune. And even though I’ve never heard of that line before, once I found out it was European, I knew I had the right stuff on my hair. Plus it smelt so good! I seriously couldn’t stop smelling it for the rest of the night!

Sam, of course, was the one who had the final say, and he gave his stamp of approval by saying – I love your HUR!

Just one thing people: How on earth do you curl your hair with a flat iron? I seriously need to learn!!!

Thank you Emily for my amazing hair cut, and everyone at STRAND, who is making St Louis Park a stylish and hopping place to live!

{27 Dresses} Dress 9: Way Up North

A couple weeks ago I went up north and stayed with some friends in a cabin. Surprisingly enough I pulled off wearing a dress even up there! Here is the proof ;)

WP_20130803_002 (1)

Dress: Target (my little shopping therapy after a rough day at work! Yes, even toddler teachers have hard days!), Belt: Target

I also got to meet neighbor’s dog! Isn’t she something?

And watch sunset on the dock:

But I have to admit, my favorite part of the day was getting to see and hang out with this child:

I love you, Ingrid! I can’t believe you are almost 3!

I hope you all had a great weekend! I won a gift card from Marshall’s through their Project Fab on Facebook and have been spending that, so new outfit posts to come! As well as some DIY’s! Only if Marshall’s sold paint… sigh

Until next time,

Zhenya

All pictures were taken with my Nokia Lumia phone provided by Verizon! It was really helpful this time around, I shared Internet with my friends, took awesome pictures and even finished The Mindy Project on Hulu!

One Flew Over Flyover Press

slideshow_3

Today I want to introduce Flyover Press! It’s an online store of Midwest inspired apparel and design items! Nick’s (the creator of Flyover Press and blogger at Great Lakes Prep) love for all things Midwest is so clearly seen through every single item listed in the store!

“Located in southwest Michigan underneath planes venturing cross country, Flyover Press seeks to end the coastal bias that leaves the Midwest so often ignored. By crafting made in the USA apparel and posters inspired by the people, places and traditions of America’s Heartland, Flyover Press serves as a way for Midwesterners to display their pride to the rest of the country.

We’re committed to three things, high quality American-made products, excellent customer service and providing products for the people of the regions of this country that are too often ignored. And having fun while we do it. Some of our best ideas are hatched over a couple beers with old friends. So make that four things.

We also love the Midwest and try to support it in as many ways as possible. That’s why we try to produce as many of our products in the Midwest as we can. Our shirts are printed in Indianapolis and while our posters are printed in Connecticut, they’re done by a couple who broke into the business in Chicago. As we add more products to the line we’ll continue trying to seek out Midwest sources. It might not be the least expensive way of doing things but it’s how we believe in doing business.

And that’s why we give back 3% of profits to Midwest-based non-profits. We want to support the area that raised us and we want to spread the love. That’s why we don’t have just one organization we support, but several. While we have a few organizations already selected, we’re always open to learning about the organizations you love”

How amazing is that? I thought I’d share some of my favorite items from the store with you:

North Star State Print

North Star State

Patriotic Midwest Tank (love the corn and the wheat logo!)

Navy Blue Patriotic Tank Product Shot

I know they are just starting, so they need all the love and support, especially from us, the midwesterners, so spread the word!

Z

{27 Dresses} Dress 4: Art Show

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
Pablo Picasso
I am pretty sure you know where I am going with this one ;) Last night we had our annual art show at work, and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Everyone did such a good job of showing off their classroom’s projects!

{27 Dresses} Dress 3: Top Knot

Have you ever wondered what your hair would look like after you’ve been wearing it in the top knot for the whole day? Today you’ll find out!

20130717-135530.jpg

Here is a dress I’ve had since my NYC days, so circa 2009. I got it at the famous Housing Works on the UWS! I absolutely loved that store, for some reason there was always something there for me! So if you can – go check it out! It’s on Columbus and W 74th St!

And if you ever wondered what a top knot does to your hair… Well, here is the answer!
