Happy Monday! I am so emotional and excited over the Packers win over Cowboys last night, I don’t think I know how to contain myself. I bet you never thought you’d see me talking about football on the blog, did you? Well Wisconsin is working it’s magic on me! I love living here, I love all the friends I’ve made. But one of the things I love the most is Lake Michigan. That’s why I am always shooting outfits by it. Today is no exception. By the way, can you guess what my favorite color is? Enjoy and don’t forget to link up yours below!

My Balayage Experience at Get Dolled Up Salon with Melissa

get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage get-dolled-up-milwaukee-balayage

I love getting my hair done period. So when Melissa from Get Dolled Up reached out to me offering a balayage and hair cut experience at a Shorewood based salon I couldn’t say no!

I switched from highlights to balayage in 2014, when I saw an picture on Instagram and knew that my hair didn’t have to look stripey, but could have a beautiful blended effect. And have been a balayage convert ever since.

Melissa spent about 4 hours on the cut and color but it was so worth it! Last time I got my hair done I wasn’t happy with the cut. The girl cut out a weird bang portion that I was looking to get blended in, resulting in me requesting Melissa to take about 2 inches off.

The balayage looks amazing, I got baby lights added, which I’ve never had before, they make the blond strands stand out even more. I also got to try Schwarzkopf hair dye again after a very long break. Schwarzkopf is a really popular brand in Russia, but having been living in the States for a long time, and coming from Minneapolis, which is Aveda central, it was a nice change.

Now bleached hair can be tricky to take care of, that’s why I also want to share my favorite products that help me keep my hair looking blonder and healthier longer.

best-hair-care-products-for-balayage

  1. Shimmer Lights Shampoo and Conditioner – use these once or twice a week to keep your hair from looking too yellow.
  2. Maple Holistics Grapeseed Oil – rich in vitamin E, it’s perfect for hair growth. I love deep conditioning my hair and massaging my scalp with it about once a week.
  3. Coconut Curls by OGX – even though my hair is pretty straight, I use this product on my ends to keep them from being too dry.
  4. Matrix Heat Buffer – a must have spray for every time I use a styling tool, like the GHD curve featured in last weeks Beauty Brunch Post, a blow dryer or a straightener.
  5. Matrix So Long Damage Iron Tamer – a cream type of heat protectant. I use this on damp hair more than anything. The heat buffer (#4) is perfect for dry hair.
  6. L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil – perfect for a finishing touch to make my hair smooth and shiny. See the full review on L’Oreal’s Extraordinary Hair line on my YouTube channel.
  7. Dessange Paris Color Restorative Top Coat Serum with UV filter – same idea as the oil above, but the UV protectant makes it my number one choice!

I hope you enjoyed my hair transformation and find my list of products helpful! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the above and what your opinion is! Have a product that works for you? Please share that as well in the comments below!

The Murder Mystery Co Milwaukee Experience

A couple months ago Sam and I had an opportunity to see Milwaukee Murder Mystery Co in action at one of their theater events at the Astor Hotel. I was really excited to have a different kind of date night, and it didn’t disappoint.

The act we got to see was Crime and Pun-ishment, it took place in the 1920’s during Prohibition. All attendees were encouraged to dress up. I have to admit Sam and I didn’t, but it was so much fun to see everyone else’s costumes. People really went out with dresses, wigs, and accessories!

Before the show started, and I should mention it included a 3 course dinner, the actors picked out some of the audience members to participate in the act as the suspects. I mean we were invited to solve a murder mystery after all 😉

The night included a lot of interactions, mingling and a fair share of bribing, because that’s how you get the necessary information these days!

The actors were hilarious, the scenes well thought through, making the evening go by way too quickly. I wish the puns and jokes didn’t end. I would definitely go there again and recommend you do too! Make sure to check their Milwaukee Murder Mystery Co or if you are not from Milwaukee find one near you 🙂

I want to get a little side tracked now and point out that we were probably some of the younger attendees that night. We shared a table with a group of ladies who were having a girls night out. They had so much fun, and it was incredible to hear their life stories. I couldn’t stop thinking about our generation and how we spend most of our free time on our phones and it made me sad, but also inspired me to be more social and step out of my comfort zone.

Join me on my 2017 Health and Wellness Journey

2017 journey

Today I am turning a new page here at BeingZhenya.com. I am starting a health and wellness journey that I want to share with you. I’ve been thinking a lot about the blog and whether to continue writing, and I decided that it was time to put more time and effort into it.

Since starting my first big job out of college last August I found myself spending more time on the couch with a glass of wine watching yet another show on Netflix. Even my regular trips to the gym seemed to be pointless.

That’s why I am starting 2017 with another Whole 30 challenge. Sam and I did it a year and a half ago and it worked so well for us. I will be sharing my grocery hauls as well as my favorite recipes with you. And even though the challenge is only 30 days, I am planning on continuing it through the year.

popsugar january jump start

If 30 days seems too long, I would like to recommend the POPSUGAR January Jump Start plan for 2017 which includes clean eating recipes and 2-week workout plan! It’s easy to navigate, and some of the workouts even include videos, so you can simply follow along. I will be continuing attending classes at the WAC, sticking with strength and boot camp, but I will give a more detailed update once I see the January/February schedule.

Another important aspect of my health and wellness journey for 2017 is my mental and emotional health. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends were battling depression and anxiety. I have been going through a lot over the past few months as well. Some of the major 2016 events included our move to Milwaukee, leaving my Minneapolis friends, graduating from college, starting a new job. It’s stressful when it’s just you, but when you are moving with a spouse, it’s even more so. I’m looking for 2017 to slow down and for things to settle down a bit, but we’ll see. I am planning on spending less time on my phone, more time with my friends and family, more time reading and writing.

I want to wish you all a happy new year, let’s make 2017 kick ass!

The Perfect Holiday Dress // Monday Mode Link Up + It Cosmetics Giveaway

Perfect Holiday Dress Perfect Holiday Dress Perfect Holiday Dress Perfect Holiday Dress

Happy Monday! Here is to another week! My week has a very snowy start. I spent all day Sunday baking a cake to bring into work, and watching Shameless! Obsessed with that show. I don’t know how I didn’t start watching it sooner!

Today’s dress is the perfect holiday dress in my opinion. It’s flattering, unique and has those little details that allow to wear it without any accessories. For the past couple of months I’ve been avoiding wearing any sort of jewelry. I don’t know what it is, probably just a stage 🙂 haha My dress is by LATTORI, and the booties are Kenneth Cole Reaction I got on Hautelook a few years ago.  I’ve selected some similar products for you to check out below:

As promised, we have another holiday giveaway for you! This one is even better than the last! I’ve been obsessed with It Cosmetics for about a year now, and I wanted to share the hype with you today! It Cosmetics has recently become available at Ulta, and you can enter to win a set of 5 brushes, and two ornaments that include Confidence in a Cream and Super Hero mascara! Good luck!

winter cozy

Happy December! Winter is finally here, it snowed in Milwaukee today, and even though it will probably melt away, I love it! I am taking out all my flannels, warm pajamas and hot chocolate. I am also counting down days till my winter break! Wait what? With the amount of days the company is giving us off, and the time I took off, I will have Dec 22 – Jan 1 off! How cool is that? I feel like I am back in college! I am also really excited to go to Minnesota for Christmas! Make plans now, before my calendar gets booked 🙂 Haha

Today’s look is a combination of a few of my favorite things: menswear inspired coat that I spruced up with a vintage bee pin, thrifted handmade cable knit sweater and Timberland foldover boots.

And there you have it friends!

In Bordeaux // Monday Mode Link Up

Happy Monday! I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! I feel so fortunate I got to spend it with my friend Kaitlyn and her family!

The rest of this long weekend was spent catching up on reading, blogging and organizing my apartment. I also got to see my friend Jessica and catch up on what’s going on in Minneapolis.

Today’s outfit is a layering masterpiece, at least in my book! I am usually not very good at layering. I find it difficult to find pieces that go together, but this time maybe it’s the bordeaux color that helps me pull it off together.

Once again all the photos are by @kaitlyn.luckow and if you like my outfit, you can shop it or similar pieces below:

A Very Mod Style Monday Mode with LATTORI and Link Up

mod style mod style mod style

Do you have a look or a style that you go for regardless of the season? Something you rely on when in doubt? For me it’s the mod 60’s style dresses that help show off my legs, while being work appropriate. I love this LATTORI dress exactly for that reason. It’s easy shape and vibrant colors help you get noticed, but not too much. Styling it was as easy as 1-2-3. I threw on some heels, and viola. That’s why I love dresses. They are an outfit on their own. I always feel better about spending money on a dress if I am in the store too. It’s an easy throw on solution to early morning dilemmas that I am sure we all face each and every day!

I hope you enjoyed this outfit! I have one more LATTORI dress to share and I am saving that one for next week.
