Luminess Air Airbrush Essentials

luminess-air

Testing out and reviewing new beauty products is probably one of the main reasons why I love blogging so much. Today I wanted to share my review of the Airbrush Essentials from Luminess Air.

I started using Luminess Air products about a year or so ago, and quickly fell in love with the ease of application, ability to determine the coverage, and the long lasting effect of it.

This fall I’ve partnered up with Luminess Air again to bring you a series of reviews that I will be sharing over the course of the next few months.

I started with the Airbrush Essentials. A set of 3 products aimed to target different skin concerns. The set includes:

  1. Porcelain – helps create the smoothest, most flawless skin.
  2. Eraser – erases uneven skin texture and large pores.
  3. X-out – conceals dark circles under eyes.

All of these products are meant to be used pre-foundation. Porcelain is a primer, Eraser is a serum, and X-out is a concealer. So you are getting a variety of products in this set.

Now when it comes to using them, I definitely prefer Porcelain most days, with a little X-out thrown in as needed.

airbrush-essentials airbrush-essentials

Now if you’ve never used airbrush makeup, I would recommend starting out with as little as possible and gradually layer up. When applying multiple layers of product, like I have here, don’t over-do it. Less is more, and a little goes a long ways are the two rules that are definitely applied to airbrush cosmetics. My other tip, always use finishing powder. I’ve been trying out Luminess Translucent powder, however I am not impressed with the brush and how the dispenser is set up. So I would definitely not recommend that.

Overall Airbrush Essentials set impressed me with the performance, color (that was a concern, because I thought it wouldn’t match or layer with the foundation well) and ease of use. I do appreciate Airbrush Cosmetics for eliminating the need to touch my face, and its ability to conceal almost everything.

Have you tried Airbrush Cosmetics? What did you think?

Bluemercury at Macy’s Southdale

Bluemercury, a new and exciting luxury beauty space opened in Macy’s Southdale in Edina June,11. And as one of the biggest beauty and make up junkies I was there last Friday to check it out.

The new store space is located to the left of the entrance, if you are coming in from the Macy’s parking lot off of W 66th street. It’s a wide-open space, set up to showcase some of the products and brands Macy’s has never carried before, like Trish McEvoy, Guerlain, SK-II. The space also includes a spa room, where you can schedule an appointment for microdermabrasion, brow tinting, facial, waxing and more.

I got to spend a few minutes at the location, getting the tour, learning about the products. The staff was incredibly knowledgable, friendly and helpful.

I was happy to see some brands I recognized like Klorane, Bliss, Nars and Darphin, but I was more interested in the lines I’ve never tried before, like M-61, RMS Beauty, and Tara Smith haircare.

I can’t wait to share some of the beauty product reviews of the items I was able to get my hands on from Bluemercury. I am especially excited about the M-61 Power Glow Peel, Hydraboost Eye and Lune and Aster makeup (mascara and primer).

One last thing, Bluemercury gift wrap is amazing! Go check them out, try out the products, share some beauty love!

Last week I got invited to check out the new NYX store at the Mall of America. This is the 8th store the company has opened in the US so far. All the other locations are on the coasts.

Being a huge makeup junkie, and in absolute love with NYX products, I wasn’t disappointed with what I saw. The store is beautiful, offering a full selection of products (something you can’t find at Ulta or Target), knowledgable staff, iPads with tutorials that can teach you new makeup techniques. It is amazing.

I was extremely fortunate to meet the CEO of the company Scott Friedman, and learn more abut NYX from him. And as you can see from the photos I was absolutely smitten with him.

Overall it was a great night that ended with delicious dinner at Cedar + Stone. I highly recommend the Torn Kale Salad, as well as 12 Hour Braised Beef Short Rib.

Make sure to visit the NYX store if you are ever at Mall of America. It’s on the 1st floor near Sears! You can’t miss it. I also created a roundup of my favorite NYX products, check it out if you have a second!

Amuse Bouche by Bite Beauty Review

Amuse Bouche BeetrootAmuse Bouche

When it comes to lipstick, I don’t ask for much. I need it to be matte or satin, non-sticky, and long lasting. I also need the color to be vibrant, something that will distinguish me from the crowd. I like to stand out.

I found all these characteristics in the Amuse Bouche by Bite Beauty. Having received 3 lipsticks in the mail about a month ago, I wanted to make sure I really put these products to the test.

Amuse Bouche Beetroot

Color: Beetroot

Amuse Bouche Gazpacho Amuse Bouche Gazpacho

Color: Gazpacho

Amuse Bouche Pepper Amuse Bouche Pepper

Color: Pepper

Hands down Beetroot is my favorite color, it’s new and different in my collection, and I was pleasantly surprised that the color lasted even after a visit to Starbucks, and I make those more than once a day 😉

Gazpacho is a play on the traditional red lipstick, it’s bright and vibrant, definitely not a deep red some may be looking for, but definitely worth considering for the summer.

And finally Pepper, probably the most “neutral” of the trio, it’s a safe color for those who don’t like to draw attention to themselves, or chose to accentuate the eyes.

These are my new favorite lipsticks, and I can’t imagine my beauty routine without them.

Thanks to Influenster for providing me with these samples for review!

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara Review

IMG_4161 IMG_4191

Winter is a perfect season for beauty reviews, because I don’t have to go outside and take outfit photos. I recently received new Velvet Noir mascara by Marc Jacobs Beauty, thus the review. I feel like mascara is a product you don’t need to test out for weeks to know if you like it or not. Of course there is the aspect of what happens to the formula over time and whether it’s going to be as easy to apply as it is now, or if it’s going to thicken, but I am going to ignore this aspect altogether today.

Something interesting I learned about the Velvet Noir mascara is that it was inspired by Marc Jacobs’s first beauty memory of his mother carefully shaving fibers from a velvet ribbon to create her own couture faux lashes. 2016-01-02 14.53.47

The mascara is thick in consistency, glides on extremely well, brush is shaped unlike any other mascara I’ve used, and is overall a pleasure to apply. It is also formulated without Paragons, Sulfates and Phthalates. Yes, it is pricey $26.00 but you get a lot of product for the buck. I am still trying to get used to the product and its application. I definitely recommend it for the volume, but not so much for length. Also be careful with how much you apply, because the lashes can end up looking clumpy.

Luminess AirSupremacy

IMG_3263

Hello friends,

How have you been? After two weeks of not posting anything, and evaluating and reevaluating my existing blog space, I came to a conclusion that it’s better for all of us if I post more reviews and tutorials (especially the DIY kind), and if you want to see my outfits, there is Instagram for that!

A couple months ago I got the opportunity to try Luminess AirBrush System, and when I was offered to try the new Mist Airbrush Foundation, I couldn’t resist. The less I touch my face the better my skin looks, it’s an easy rule I’ve been following since I was 13 and started using makeup. I must admit following is a strong word though, because when I am stressed, I am stressed and I start touching my face, picking at anything that may be healing, and then having to deal with all the consequences. Even makeup brushes cause breakouts when the midterms and finals hit.

That’s why airbrushing is my saving grace. Not only do I not touch my face with my hands, I have also eliminated the step of having to touch it with the brushes.

IMG_3277

Now the Luminess AirSupremacy boasts

  • superior build-able, yet breathable coverage;
  • ideal for sensitive skin;
  • dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested;
  • paraben, fragrance and oil free;
  • never tested on animals;
  • no mess application;
  • minimizes fine lines, wrinkles and texture.

IMG_3237

The starter kit comes with 5 products and 2 brushes. I got the shade fair, I think that’s the shade I received last time, and I was very happy to see that Luminess Air remembered my preference. The 5 products that come in the kit are:

  • Refreshing and Moisturizing Mist Face Primer (2 oz.)
  • Ultimate Flawless Mist Airbrush Foundation Shade 2 Bloom (2 oz.)
  • Ultimate Flawless Mist Airbrush Foundation Shade 3 Golden Beige (2 oz.)
  • Natural Finish Mist Airbrush Blush (2 oz.)
  • 18 hour long-wear mist makeup sealant ( .5 oz.)

The kit includes two brushes, a small blush/powder brush and a Pro-Air blender sponge brush, which I haven’t used yet. The purpose of the Pro-Air Blender is to help get rid of the over-spray or blotchiness, and remove any excess makeup. The brush is an alternative method of applying foundation if you don’t want to spray it directly on your face.

Every product needs to be shaken for about 5 seconds before you apply it. And as far as the word “mist” goes, the only one that’s truly a mist in my opinion is the primer. The other products are more of aerosols, which explains why there is a brush included in the set – the alternative method of applying foundation.

What I like about the kit the most is it includes everything that you need. I stopped using eyeshadow primer, because the foundation covers the eyelids. The line has a nice fragrance to it. The product is a little drying, so definitely layer up on that moisturizer in the morning and definitely at night. Airbrushing creates an even tone, and helps correct all the discolorations that I have on my face, including the redness caused by breakouts. Here are some before and after photos for you.

IMG_3235 IMG_3236

Sorry about those, didn’t mean to scare you!

Overall, the system definitely wins over the current Air Brush System I own, even though they are the same brand. It’s the ease of use and no need to clean the dispenser afterwards that has me sold on this one over the existing one. One major advantage of this line and the brand overall is a little really goes a long way here. And the less I use, personally, the better my skin looks.

I have recently completely changed up my makeup routine. I switched from the BB cream I’ve been using to Luminess Air Airbrush Cosmetics. It’s been amazing, and it’s pretty safe to say I am never going back to regular makeup again.

I never thought airbrushing to be that of a big deal like other bloggers made it seem. It’s pricey, seemed like it would take too much time, and I was fine with the products I currently had. And then I tried it. Airbrushing is the bomb, I tell you! It helps create an even skin tone, makes me look younger, and keep my skin matte longer.

My favorite part is the application. I am a firm believer that you should avoid touching your face as much as possible, and this is the perfect tool for me. And I actually like the feeling of air blowing on my skin, though I was terrified I was going to airbrush myself in the eye by accident.

You simply start by matching your color on luminessair.com by uploading a photo, or going directly into purchasing the kit and selecting a color from there.

Since my skin tends to get oily, I went with the Matte foundation, and a medium color. When I received my Aqua and White Luminess Air kit it actually came with two different shades, which is perfect, because my skin tone will definitely change once the summer is over.

The airbrush system is extremely easy to use at home. I simply watched a video on how to correctly use the stylus and went from there. (The video part is REALLY important, don’t skip out on that!)

IMG_1236

I had a photoshoot with my friend Ania of Alacloth Vintage last week, and she definitely noticed the difference in my skin.bbb1

bbb3

As you can see from the photos it’s perfect for covering up blemishes and any imperfections that I have. I’m pretty excited I had the opportunity to try out the Airbrush system, because I would’ve never bought it for myself.

Have you ever tried an airbrush system? What did you think?

College Student Winter Makeup and Skincare Must Haves

I was compensated for this shop by Collective Bias, Inc. on behalf of Neutrogena for this #NewNeutrogena campaign #AD #Collectivebias. All opinions are mine alone.

2015-01-22 20.13.45

Winters in Minnesota are brutal, and since I am also trying to stay on a budget with my tuition due any day, I headed to Target to pick up some new and more winter appropriate skin care products to add to my beauty routine. The products I picked up were conveniently located on the end cap in the beauty/skincare section, which made them super easy to find. Gotta love Target!

2015-01-22 19.58.32

Of course the number one step when it comes to fighting dry skin is hydration. I’ve been drinking a lot of water, but this winter it just wasn’t enough. So I picked up a Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Eye to give my skin the extra oomph.

I always start my beauty routine with moisturizer. And I apply eye gel first. Is that weird? What do you apply first: facial moisturizer or eye moisturizer?

2015-01-22 20.08.28

I am in front of my computer a lot now that my semester has started and my eyes get tired and puffy, especially if I stay up late studying, so a good eye moisturizer is a must. Sometimes I even carry it with me to the U and reapply throughout the day. That’s been working really well for me, you should try it too. And don’t forget to apply your eye gel using pinkie or ring finger, they are the weakest fingers and won’t pull on the skin as much as the other ones.

2015-01-22 20.06.45

2015-01-22 20.07.35

I also prefer a facial moisturizer that is a gel, as opposed to the cream. I think my skin absorbs the gel better, and I like the light texture and the cooling effect. The fast absorbency also helps my foundation application.

2015-01-22 20.10.09

Lately, I have been going for the single eye shadow look. I love mixing and blending colors, but when I have a bus to catch, I can’t afford that. So a great solution is to just apply one color all over the lid. And this is what I am doing here.

2015-01-22 20.10.52

Mascara comes next and I am using Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara here (Neutrogena has great cosmetic products in general in my opinion). My eyes have recently become sensitive, and this mascara has been a life saver. I had to throw away some of my other mascaras, because I couldn’t use them anymore. Also in the winter my eyes usually water, especially when I leave the house and the cold winter wind blows in my face. I noticed that this mascara, even though it’s not waterproof doesn’t run as much as the other ones. It’s also really helpful when I am rubbing my eyes. As bad of a habit as it is, sometimes I do it automatically, without realizing what’s going on. In situations like this it’s great to have a mascara that doesn’t smudge easily.

2015-01-22 20.11.42

And finally I touch up with some blush. I like to accentuate my cheekbones, and this Neutrogena blush is wonderful. I prefer blushes that are made of several different colors. That way the blend is more natural and flattering.

2015-01-22 20.12.32

So here you have it, my winter skincare/fast makeup routine with a couple helpful tips along the way. I’d love to hear about your winter skincare and makeup routine! Leave a comment sharing how you do it in the winter.

Studio Gear Hydrating CC Cream Review

20140423-134840.jpg

Having been in love with multiple BB creams, let’s just say they work great for my skin. I was intrigued by the new CC products that kept popping up left and right! And the first CC cream that I tried, aside from the samples in the store, was this Studio Gear Hydrating one.

CC stands for Color Correcting. And that’s just what I need. Back in my high school/college years I used to have a lot of serious acne that left some scars. And even though oil pulling has greatly helped my skin condition, I still wanted a cover up, that would look good and feel good.

This product promises:

Hydrating CC Cream transforms and enhances your complexion in an incredibly light, smooth formula. This foundation simultaneously fights aging, retains moisture, and covers and treats blemishes with a non-oily, perfectly radiant finish.

Key Benefits:

Prevents fine lines and wrinkles with collagen-building ingredients
Restores skin elasticity by promoting moisture retention
Brightens and illuminates skin with a non-oily, complete coverage application

Not too bad right? So let’s see what it did to my skin!

Texture and color of the product

20140423-135138.jpg

I have been using the CC cream for over a month now, I had a travel size sample before committing to the larger version. Let me explain a bit. Even though I got this product for free, for example this one was powered by BrandBacker, I often decline offers to try or test a certain item, because I already have so many of the similar item. I know free is appealing and good, but who needs 10 foundations or blushes? That’s why before I accept products for review, I think twice!

I also like the hydrating feature. Since I wake up really early, sometimes when I do my makeup I’m not completely awake yet, and I forget to put on moisturizer. Yeah… So this is a great way for me to keep my skin hydrated, even if I mess my beauty routine up.

In the end of the day, it’s a great product, it does wear off though, but looks and acts great under a layer of powder. SPF factor is also a great plus. But it is pricey and I probably wouldn’t buy it for myself if I had the choice.

Have you tried a CC cream? What are your thoughts on the whole alphabetized skin care products trend?

G is for Glamour {A-Z Challenge}

Glamour-is-a-state-of-mind

Merriam-Webster defines glamour as “a very exciting and attractive quality, a magic spell, an exciting and often illusory and romantic attractiveness”. Oxford Dictionary says: “The attractive or exciting quality that makes certain people or things seem appealing or special”. It’s a word that sounds almost the same in Russian as it does in English. Glamour is universal and it’s everywhere. Glamour is full of excitement and appeal, it’s something we want and long for. Glamour to me is life in a big city. Travelling. A career. Designer clothes…

But then it becomes my goal, and I am working my way through the daily routine to get there, to my better life. And while I am on my way, I’ll shop some!
