Luminess Air Airbrush Essentials

luminess-air

Testing out and reviewing new beauty products is probably one of the main reasons why I love blogging so much. Today I wanted to share my review of the Airbrush Essentials from Luminess Air.

I started using Luminess Air products about a year or so ago, and quickly fell in love with the ease of application, ability to determine the coverage, and the long lasting effect of it.

This fall I’ve partnered up with Luminess Air again to bring you a series of reviews that I will be sharing over the course of the next few months.

I started with the Airbrush Essentials. A set of 3 products aimed to target different skin concerns. The set includes:

  1. Porcelain – helps create the smoothest, most flawless skin.
  2. Eraser – erases uneven skin texture and large pores.
  3. X-out – conceals dark circles under eyes.

All of these products are meant to be used pre-foundation. Porcelain is a primer, Eraser is a serum, and X-out is a concealer. So you are getting a variety of products in this set.

Now when it comes to using them, I definitely prefer Porcelain most days, with a little X-out thrown in as needed.

Now if you’ve never used airbrush makeup, I would recommend starting out with as little as possible and gradually layer up. When applying multiple layers of product, like I have here, don’t over-do it. Less is more, and a little goes a long ways are the two rules that are definitely applied to airbrush cosmetics. My other tip, always use finishing powder. I’ve been trying out Luminess Translucent powder, however I am not impressed with the brush and how the dispenser is set up. So I would definitely not recommend that.

Overall Airbrush Essentials set impressed me with the performance, color (that was a concern, because I thought it wouldn’t match or layer with the foundation well) and ease of use. I do appreciate Airbrush Cosmetics for eliminating the need to touch my face, and its ability to conceal almost everything.

Have you tried Airbrush Cosmetics? What did you think?

Every time Monday comes around, I feel kind of cheated. The weekend flew by and instead of being a fun after party, the first day of the week always hits me like a bucket of cold water. I am slowly getting myself into a habit of enjoying this day of the week, being happy and looking forward to a new week!

I spent this weekend in Minneapolis, got to go to my favorite food places, a fashion show, but most importantly, I got to see my friends. I was hoping to have some photos of the outfit I wore by today, but unfortunately I don’t.

September is flying by so quickly, and while some may complain, I am so excited for October! Getting ready for friends and family to visit, Sam’s Birthday, and Halloween! Plus all the pumpkin patches and apple orchards to visit! I need to find some good ones in the Milwaukee area!

I hope you all had a fun filled weekend, make sure to add your latest blog posts to the link up! I can’t wait to check them out!

College Student Winter Makeup and Skincare Must Haves

I was compensated for this shop by Collective Bias, Inc. on behalf of Neutrogena for this #NewNeutrogena campaign #AD #Collectivebias. All opinions are mine alone.

2015-01-22 20.13.45

Winters in Minnesota are brutal, and since I am also trying to stay on a budget with my tuition due any day, I headed to Target to pick up some new and more winter appropriate skin care products to add to my beauty routine. The products I picked up were conveniently located on the end cap in the beauty/skincare section, which made them super easy to find. Gotta love Target!

2015-01-22 19.58.32

Of course the number one step when it comes to fighting dry skin is hydration. I’ve been drinking a lot of water, but this winter it just wasn’t enough. So I picked up a Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Eye to give my skin the extra oomph.

I always start my beauty routine with moisturizer. And I apply eye gel first. Is that weird? What do you apply first: facial moisturizer or eye moisturizer?

2015-01-22 20.08.28

I am in front of my computer a lot now that my semester has started and my eyes get tired and puffy, especially if I stay up late studying, so a good eye moisturizer is a must. Sometimes I even carry it with me to the U and reapply throughout the day. That’s been working really well for me, you should try it too. And don’t forget to apply your eye gel using pinkie or ring finger, they are the weakest fingers and won’t pull on the skin as much as the other ones.

2015-01-22 20.07.35

I also prefer a facial moisturizer that is a gel, as opposed to the cream. I think my skin absorbs the gel better, and I like the light texture and the cooling effect. The fast absorbency also helps my foundation application.

2015-01-22 20.10.09

Lately, I have been going for the single eye shadow look. I love mixing and blending colors, but when I have a bus to catch, I can’t afford that. So a great solution is to just apply one color all over the lid. And this is what I am doing here.

2015-01-22 20.10.52

Mascara comes next and I am using Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara here (Neutrogena has great cosmetic products in general in my opinion). My eyes have recently become sensitive, and this mascara has been a life saver. I had to throw away some of my other mascaras, because I couldn’t use them anymore. Also in the winter my eyes usually water, especially when I leave the house and the cold winter wind blows in my face. I noticed that this mascara, even though it’s not waterproof doesn’t run as much as the other ones. It’s also really helpful when I am rubbing my eyes. As bad of a habit as it is, sometimes I do it automatically, without realizing what’s going on. In situations like this it’s great to have a mascara that doesn’t smudge easily.

2015-01-22 20.11.42

And finally I touch up with some blush. I like to accentuate my cheekbones, and this Neutrogena blush is wonderful. I prefer blushes that are made of several different colors. That way the blend is more natural and flattering.

2015-01-22 20.12.32

So here you have it, my winter skincare/fast makeup routine with a couple helpful tips along the way. I’d love to hear about your winter skincare and makeup routine! Leave a comment sharing how you do it in the winter.

Style Resolutions 2015 – #ThriftStyleThursday

2015-01-08 08.21.32

2015-01-08 08.29.12

We all have goals when it comes to personal style. Yesterday 2015 style resolutions even got brought up during #stylechat on Twitter! Today I though I’d share some of mine:

1. Wear more solids. I haven’t really been into patterns, and now every time I shop or thrift I seem to be gravitating towards solids (unless it’s a swimsuit!), I have cleaned out my closet a few times over the past month, and even though I have quiet a few patterns left, I am going to be wearing them with a lot of solids.

2. Wear more vintage. I go through “vintage craze” stages, and if before it was accessories, now it’s definitely clothes (denim, shirts and sweaters in particular). I have a couple velvet dresses that I can’t wait to show you.

3. Wear more handmade. I am trying to make more time to knit, crochet, sew and DIY some pieces for myself, as well as for my Etsy store, hopefully 2015 will be a good year for that, and I will stay organized and on top of stuff!

4. Wear what I already have. Thrifting lets me switch up my wardrobe every week. I could shop at a thrift store every week if I wanted to, but this year I am going to make an effort to wear what I already have, and shop less.

5. Have fun! I want to inspire with my outfits, but I also want to have fun! So if you see me wearing my husband’s graphic T-shirts, don’t be alarmed! I’m just having fun!

Everything is changing and everything is constantly moving. I can’t believe I’ve already been in school for a month! University has definitely pushed and stretched me in more ways than I could’ve ever imagined. But one thing remained the same – I still love vintage and clothes, and styling my daily outfits. Probably even more now, than ever.

I have told the story of the jacket in my Instagram post yesterday, but I will share it again here. And if you are a thrifter, or a vintage shopper you will understand what I went through to get it.

I was at Steeple People on Franklin and Lyndale, actually trying to find someone new to talk to (for a class assignment), when I noticed a girl find this jacket. She actually asked one of the store volunteers to get it down for her, because it was hanging up high under the ceiling. Of course now I wanted it too. It was a perfect jacket that I wanted before I even knew I needed or wanted it. After about 30 minutes she decided against it, and set it back down. I guess I just got lucky this time, because I am literally living in it this fall. And just in case you are wondering, it is a wool Talbots jacket in light grey, the softest, most comfortable thing I’ve worn in a long time.

In this look I wore it over a vintage black dress, paired with a scarf I got from Popsugar Must-have box, and the black boots I got for Christmas two years ago, that my father-in-law brought from Germany.

I am wearing it again today, so make sure you follow me on Instagram!

Train Ride

2014-08-18 14.55.48

Last Friday we took a train to St Paul. The green line has been up for a couple months now, and that’s the train I’ll be taking to the U every day for the next two years of my life, so I was more than excited to check it out.

Why were we headed to St Paul? To check out Mickey’s Diner. If you’ve seen Mighty Ducks, you know what I’m talking about.

The diner, the food and the downtown St Paul are definitely charming, and small. I fell in like. I am glad you are only a train ride away now, St Paul.

Oh no! My only mesh shirt is in Minnesota while I’m still in Colorado! I am driving home today but hate to miss a great Thrift Style Thursday! So here are some pics from my vacation! And I will post a mesh outfit soon! I’m sure the girls came up with something amazing this week!

August starts tomorrow! What???? Can you believe it? Only 4 more weeks before school starts! But let’s take advantage of the sunny days, play outdoors and have fun. I want to invite you to join #ThriftStyleAugust Instagram challenge. The rules are simple: follow the prompts for each day and make sure to use the hashtag! And you don’t have to post every day if you can’t! Also, as you may have noticed all the Thursday prompts match our Thrift Style Thursday themes.

Natural Neons {Thrift Style Thursday}

neon-shirt-denim-shorts

The song “Peache” by The Presidents of the United States of America has been stuck in my head for the past month or so. Maybe because this small one farm farmers market by my house sells, among other things, well peaches. But we are going to talk neons today. I’ve never owned anything neon, until last Saturday, when after our Minneapolis Blogger Sale Nora let me have this shirt. And I fell in love. I hope you do too! Because neons are spectacular and can look very natural in an outfit.

Vintage Teal

Nothing like a vintage dress to make any outfit THE OUTFIT. This silk Liz Claiborne dress was made to be worn today. From the gold button detailing on the back, to the just below the knee length, I am in love. Vintage always makes a statement. I wore it on Mother’s Day last Sunday, celebrating with my husband’s family. Haven’t seen my mom in almost 3 years, these holidays are always bittersweet for me. Oh life of an immigrant.

Vintage Green

vintage-dress how-to-style-vintage alexander-wang-style vintage-look vintage-green

My friends from Vintage Swank/American Fashion Fox were kind enough to send me a few of their pieces to style. And this green striped shirt dress is the first one I am going to share with you today. I wore it Alexander Wang style with my high waisted jeans, and cut out boots. It’s definitely one of the best vintage pieces I own.

A little about these online stores though – all items they sell are highly curated by the buyers for the best of the best.

American Fashion Fox is for thrifted brand named items. They carry most of the brands that you will find at your local malls all of which can be found at thrift store prices. They only list what they would wear, so the items are all nice and trendy finds.

Vintage Swank, is for women who want to thrift but are looking for those rare finds that follow todays most recent trends. What only thrifters know is that many vintage items can be bought at low prices and are still very fashion forward in todays trends. As we both know fashion trends tend to cycle through the ages. So our items here are both vintage and new collections but all match todays woman. All items on this site start at $0.99.

I don’t know about you, but I am off to bid on some of those $0.99 dresses!

See what other pieces they sent me and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog! Let’s spread vintage love together!
