HELP! Early stages of hoarding?

I think I have a problem!

Seriously! Look at these pictures:

And I know exactly what it is – I am lazy, I don’t like to clean, I don’t like to pick up, for some reason I want to save every scrap of paper, every ribbon, every magazine.

I keep telling myself that once we move into a house, it’ll get better, but who am I kidding – it won’t.

But nothing motivates me, I guess I am just a slob. And it’s the availability and accessibility of products here. I can go to a store, spend some money, get more stuff, but it won’t solve the clutter solution!

I have recently started an Etsy store, and one of the main reasons was to downsize my vintage collection. And yes, I have made some sales, but what’s 1-2 purses compared to a walk-in closet full of supplies, patterns, coats?

Yes, let’s talk about coats. I have an obsession with coats, I think I have about 10 of them! That’s the problem thrifters have – you walk into Savers or Goodwill and see an awesome coat say for $30, and of course you want to pick it up, because in your head you are already putting together outfits, and creating InstaCollages! And at this point you don’t realize that you have another dozen coats waiting to be worn, photographed, pinned, instagrammed, facebooked, etc.

Maybe I just need to vent, but I also function better, when more people know about my issue. I don’t need anyone to hold me accountable, I need to publicly tell everyone that modern day social networks are giving me an ADD, and that my real life is starting to go god knows where!

It’s a 1 bedroom apartment for crying out loud, how difficult could it be to clean?

So here you have it, I fessed up, and am now going to go and vigorously clean the apartment, making several trips to the dumpster!

Have a great day everyone,

Z

Hoarding and DIY Curtains for the Balcony (70′s Style Fabric)

I live with a hoarder (aka my Grandfather)! Well he doesn’t hoard as much as he used to before, but the apartment is filled with the most random things. For those of you who’ve been over, I don’t really need to explain anything, but for everyone else… well, I don’t even know where to begin, so bear with me.

As some of you know, and I also mentioned it in the previous post, my Grandfather has Parkinson’s. I will definitely blog about this syndrome in the nearest future, and how it’s effected my family’s life. I will tell you this – my grandfather can’t be left alone for more than a few hours, otherwise he won’t eat, can fall, or leave the stove on, well you know all the scary things about this illness.

Anyways, before Parkinson’s my Grandfather used to spend a lot of time in the garage! And halfway between the garage and our house was the dumpster! And my grandfather would bring boards, fruit crates, pieces of furniture from that dumpster. He would either store them in the basement or the balcony.

And I decided to put an end to it! For the past couple of months my usual weekend includes several trips to the dumpster. But this time, I am taking all the things he brought – BACK. And that’s where they need to be, not on my balcony.

I don’t really have any plans for the balcony, it’s a great storage space, along with all the closets I have. As for now, the goal is to get rid of all the stuff that has been brought in. Wouldn’t you think it’s gross to bring something from the dumpster into your own home? Exactly. Well my grandfather belongs to a different generation, when they had “no nothing”!

A few weeks ago I threw away the curtains that we had in the balcony, because they had rips, and didn’t look good. Seriously, if you look at our windows from the outside, they look like S@#$!

So I decided to make new curtains, and I’ve seen something similar on marthastewart.com. I used the same fabric as in my DIY chair project. So now my chair matches the curtains:)

1. I began by cutting two strips, that were going to go on the windows.

2. Then I sewed along the edges (easy stuff, even a 10 year old can do it, if you trust your 10 y.o. with a sewing machine!). Inserted some string through the top part.

3. And – TA-DA (though it’s more like MEH, but better than before!)

Thank you all for checking this post out. This week I am going to make a dress, some chair covers, and maybe some jewelry!

Love and Lace flowers,

Xoxo

PS. Fabric is vintage, it is seriously from the 70′s, if not the 60′s!
