Monday Mode Link Up – April 24

Monday Mode Link Up Monday Mode Link Up Monday Mode Link Up Monday Mode Link Up

Here is to another Monday beautiful friends! I have to admit the past few weeks have been full of ups and downs but today I found myself feeling incredibly happy and excited to go to work tomorrow. Who would’ve thought I was excited for Monday? Me neither.

I finally got to meet one of my blogger friends from Chicago – Megan (<- Click here for her Insta). We met on line a few years ago, back when I was doing #ThriftStyleThursday link up, and she was in town for a travel conference. So we grabbed brunch and chatted about this and that. Ironically enough we both agreed that neither of us wanted to become full-time bloggers because of the unknowns and the uncertainties. Of course having a significant other with a job and benefits helps, but still there are so many fears that I have, I am not even going to go into all the detail. I think I will dedicate a separate post to it. With all that being said, our brunch and our conversation has really inspired me to be a better blogger and not write 4 shitty sentences per post. So thank you, Megan (<- Click here for her blog)!

Today I would like to present you with my favorite pair of pants. They are made of thick scuba like brushed material and are the most comfortable and soft pair from Zara I own. They won me over so fast I found myself checking out with 2 pairs. Isn’t that how it always happens anyways? Sam and I had a long discussion about my shopping addiction afterwards too.

The top is my new favorite from Apt.9 – Dhameer this one is for you 😉 I am loving the pleats and the ease of it. It goes with everything, from my ripped jeans, to shorts, to my favorite pants. Ironically enough I bought it in 2 colors as well. Do you guys buy multiples of your favorite styles?

Make sure to link up with us this week! My favorite part at the end of the week is going through all the linked up posts to see how you let your creativity shine on the Internet!

Thrift Style Thursday Link-Up // July 7 // Blonde Power

Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power Blonde power

Last week I mentioned my Schoola haul. This week I really wanted to share this Blonde Power shirt by Pam + Gela and how I styled it for Thrift Style Thursday. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve gotten so many compliments on this tee, I want to wear it every day!

Heels and vintage Lee jeans cut offs made sense, and the location was more than perfect. Alacloth took me to Milwaukee street, located right across from the Seward Pizza Luce. If you’ve never been to Milwaukee street, you must go! It’s 2 blocks of pedestrian historic heaven, charm and beauty. You won’t want to leave!

And of course the fact that it’s called Milwaukee street, and I am moving to Milwaukee made complete sense. Sadly, it was probably my last photoshoot with Alacloth for a while, but she’s promised to visit me in Wisconsin. Plus we are already planning on going thrifting there!

I hope you all had a happy and safe 4th of July! I’ve never been so busy over a holiday weekend before. I went to a BBQ, a housewarming, fireworks in Bloomington, and at Steph’s house. Hung out with so many friends, I couldn’t have asked for more! We did have a scare when one of the neighbors lost their dog, but they found her today all safe and sound!

I think it’s time for the link up! Share your outfits below! I can’t wait to check them out!

Shabby Apple Tulle Skirt

I hope everyone had a happy 4th! I am really excited to share these photos that my friend Blake shot last week at the Rose Gardens by Lake Harriet. If you’ve never been there, and you live in Minneapolis – it’s a must see/go place this summer.

The skirt is from Shabby Apple, and it’s the kind of tulle skirt I’ve always wanted to have. I had a really hard time deciding between the lengths, but went for the maxi. It is so unique and special and makes me feel, well, like a princess.

I paired it with a few of my favorite pieces, like the graphic Tee from Minneapolis Institute of Art, and two of my button downs. The skirt calls for heels and fancy necklaces, as well as red lipstick and a lot of smiles.

A few of my friends, my husband and I are starting Whole30 tomorrow! So stay tuned for updates, and some delicious recipes! Meanwhile, twirl!

Heels

A heel came off my shoe last night as I was walking around IKEA.

It said nature on the inside.

And for the next few hours I couldn’t stop thinking about the other heel.

It said nothing.

But I have a sharpie and now it says strength. Because today I need some.

My Summer 2013 Must Haves

Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Style Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

Summer has got to be my favorite season! Do you think it has anything to do with my Birthday? July baby, that’s me! Today I am going to share some of my favorite summer essentials with you and put them together into an outfit! I hope you’ll like it 🙂

1. A straw fedora! I love this hat because it fits my head (gotta admit I have a big one 😉 ) it’s perfect for going out, or just relaxing by the pool…

2. White wedges! These shoes don’t just give me a few extra inches, but also boost my confidence!

3. Neon necklace! This piece from Old Navy brightens every outfit, and to think I’ve had it since 2009! It’s an oldie!

4. Funky sunnies! I went for these white frame ones! Yes, they are a bit too much, but sometimes a girl needs it!

Don’t you just love the quality on my new Samsung Galaxy camera?

Laces and Heels

I have been dying to get my hands on, I mean to get my feet into some of those:

I don’t know what it is that Jeffrey Campbell’s Litas have over me, maybe it’s the fact that they can boost my height and make me almost as tall as my husband. Maybe it’s the 60’s vibe that they are giving off. Maybe it’s the statement that they make. Maybe because people in the streets recognize them, but those shoes have been on my list for a while.

Laced boots are actually something that’s ridiculously in right now. From Target to Gucci, I don’t even know which pair to begin with.

I have a pair of suede Nine West laced boots that I “inherited” from my host mom back in my Au Pair days living in Manhattan. I haven’t seen that pair in over a year, but it’s finally coming in the mail this week.

Good advice – if you want some new clothes – move and leave a bag at a friend’s house. A year later you are going to be as excited for those jeans and tops, as you were on the day that you bought them.

I can’t wait for my clothes to come in the mail this week, as for now – here are some oldies for you, the ones that never go out of style:

ZhenyAH!

Styling a Thrift find (which isn’t your size)

Imagine this – You walk into a thrift store, and maybe after only 5 minutes, or possible a very long 2 hours – you discover IT! The thrift find of your life (or more like a week – if you thrift shop every week like me). But it’s too big, or too long, or too wide. So what do you do? I mean it’s a find you can’t miss. Not for the whole world.

That’s what happened to me and the ivory 100% wool coat that I found at our local Sal Val for $3.99 I have to admit, I almost left it hanging there, since it’s a Large and I am a Small, sometimes an Extra-Small. So you see my dilemma, right? In the end I just couldn’t let it pass. So here is what I did:

I went through all my other clothes in my head (yes, that’s possible, especially after moving from Russia, and only being able to bring 2 suitcases. I do still have some clothes in New Jersey, but I won’t be getting those until September) and realized that I can totally pull this outfit off. Let me show you the ways:

1. Heel it and Wear a bulky sweater underneath

I know it’s hard to tell (and again I apologize for the camera phone shoot) but I am wearing 2.5 inch heels that are successfully sinking into the carpet. You don’t necessarily need to wear heels if you are tall, but I am 5’6” and this coat was dying for some heels. The other thing – bulky sweaters are your best friend, it does get cold in the winter, you know (especially if you live in Minne- SNOW-ta).

2. Belt it

I got lucky – my waist line matched the waist line of the coat, so viola – a brown belt and off I go!

3. Scarves are your best friend!

This coat was like a perfect canvas I could play and mess with, if you find a coat or a jacket of a dark color, then obviously go for a light scarf to create the contrast. Be creative and don’t be afraid to stand out. Remember – there will be only compliments!

PS. I would especially like to thank my husband for stepping up and taking all these pictures. Honey, you are the best!

In Heels

Here I am, sitting drooling over a pair of loafers, or as we call them, boat shoes. Yes, everyone wants to be on the boat, especially in the summer, especially in such cute loafers

But I wanted to talk about the importance of wearing heels! Yes, I firmly believe every woman should own a pair or two. Even if your heels are only as big as these kitten ones

The benefits of wearing heels include:

– toning your legs and butt better than any shape-ups

– learning how to balance

– a self defense tool at your feet, literally!

– boosting your sex life

I am not encouraging you to wear heels every single day, wear them once a week, or once a month, or on special occasions only. But please, please, please own a pair. And loafers, well, they’ll always be there!
