DIY Friday: Denim Rug

I saw an idea for a DIY denim rug a couple weeks ago! And I knew it was going to be perfect for me, because I had so many freecycled pairs of jeans, that I knew were waiting for their moment! And it finally came! Unfortunately it didn’t use up as many pairs, as I was hoping (only 1 1/2 or 3 pant legs :) )

Here is what you are going to need:

- Old jeans

- Scissors

- Fabric

- Sewing Machine

Then simply follow my easy instructions and enjoy!

I hope this was nice and easy, let me know how your rug turns out!

Quick Pants to Skirt DIY

Today’s post is a quick pants to skirt transformation. I showed you the polka dot madness that was happening in my refashion pile last week, so today I am going to share the quick and easy way of turning a pair of pants into a skirt.

I started off with what I like to call an awkward pair of pants. If I were to be super lazy about this refashion, I would’ve kept them as PJ’s – yes they were that comfy!

What you then want to do is chop off the legs:

And because this skirt would’ve been way too short if I didn’t add on to the length, I cut out strips of fabric from one of the pant legs, added a wide thick ribbon…

Pinned and sewed it all to the edge of the skirt, and ended up with this:

Now all I need to do is wear it somewhere :)

Hope you all had a good weekend! I went wake boarding for the first time, loved it :)

T-shirt Refashion: Part 1

Here is a T-shirt, that I freecycled last week:

Please note that I have nothing to do with the church, I do view it as one of the main Minneapolis landmarks, and it’s definitely nice living in the neighborhood around it! I do support their ministry through Steeple People though, it is one of my favorite thrift stores in the area after all!

Now this shirt has a lot going on: stains, holes, etc. So I took my scissors and some supplies:

… and ended up with this :)

Now let me explain why I am making this a 2 parter, it’s already past midnight, I’ve been working on this for the past two hours, so I am kind of tired, and also missing some ingredients to finish this refashion. Please stay tuned for Part 2, it’s coming up tomorrow :)

DIY Pillowcases

We all can use an extra pillowcase or two. That’s why I decided to dedicate my Sunday afternoon to this sewing project.

I had this fitted sheet, that I took the elastic out of. Part of the elastic went towards fixing a thrifted skirt, another part is waiting for it’s hour. My original intention was to throw the fabric away, but I am not as wasteful as you think, hence the pillowcases!

You are going to want to cut out two rectangles – 43″ by 32″ (assuming you are making 2 pillowcases ;) )

Fold them in half:

Then I took one of the pillowcases that I had and outlined it using a pencil:

Next all you need to do is sew along the side and the bottom, leaving one of the shorter sides open:

And finally fold about 1/2″ of the opening in, and in once again:

And here we have it – brand new pillowcases!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

The easiest leather DIY bracelet you’ve ever seen!

A while ago I freecycled a giant bag of leather, inside of which was another bag filled with leather straps like this:

Seriously, there is like 30 of them in the bag!

So I took one, wrapped it around my wrist 4 times (you can do it as many times as you like :) )

Once I estimated the desired length, I cut the end off and also trimmed it, to make it narrow, so that it would fit through the buckle…

And viola!

You can also add studs or beads, unfortunately I didn’t have any around, but I think that plain leather looks pretty amazing on it’s own. I also know I got quiet lucky with those buckles, if you don’t have a buckle, I suggest making 2 wholes on each end, and pulling a string or a ribbon to tie the entire bracelet together!

So let me know what you think! My husband already told me that I look like his video games characters :)

Lol,

Shabby Chic and a Vintage Necklace

I know I promised a refashion to all of my lovely readers here on WordPress and on the Re-Fashion Co-op Blog on Blogpost. And here it is!

I had this Large Gap Body shirt for over 2 years, it was one of the things my girlfriend gave me, and no I was never that size, it was just that one particular shirt.

It’s inside out, and you can see that pocket on the front. Well the pocket and the length in general bugged me so much, that I chopped it all off! Pinned some vintage lace to the bottom – I used two different kinds – one for the front, one for the back:

And here is what I ended up with!

Here is another closer look at the trim:

And the vintage necklace that I got from my Grandma:

Can’t wait for spring now :)
