Oversize Me OOTD

Everyone knows that these days it’s the baggier the better, to a certain extent of course! When I put something oversized on top, I make sure to go skinny on the bottom, and this is how it usually turns out:

tumblr_ml9508tc2Q1s7b6zoo1_500

Top – Old Navy size M (it’s HUGE!) but since it was bought on sale for a ridiculously small amount of money, and they didn’t have size S anywhere, I got it. It’s comfy and soft, almost at the point where I want to wear it around the house with a pair of sweats, but am fighting this urge!

Jeans – X2 Denim by Express, thrifted at Savers, $8

Scarf – Christmas gift from a few years ago

Floral necklace – Gofavor.com, that necklace was ordered for about $4 back in the day when I went through – Let’s order as much cheap crap costume jewelry from China as I can. If I could, I would return every single product I ordered there, because… well you see the crossed out word above! The metal is so cheap it fades away after 2 or 3 uses. This necklace has been kind of okay, but I don’t want to jinx it here! So I’ll keep wearing it out and about, and maybe later you’ll see it in one of my DIY projects!

Boots – Christmas gift from Sam :) <3

And of course my Marc Jacobs Watch! I have to wear it, everyday, yes, that’s how much I like that watch!

On the other note, winter isn’t going anywhere here in Minneapolis. After a snow thunderstorm last Thursday I am hopeless, on the verge of depression, someone please help! At least this blog is becoming more bright and colorful, I’ve finally figured out how to create a row of social media icons on my blog, yay me :)

In other news, I have a lot of DIY projects coming up for you dear readers, so stay tuned!

Love,

Z

PS. Did you notice I am not wearing any make-up in this picture?

Husband’s Shirt into Tunic Refashion/Перешиваем мужскую рубашку в тунику

2013-02-07 08.08.01 (1)

I am going to be honest with you, this was supposed to be a dress. But then my proportions were really off, so I had to turn it into a tunic. But I have a couple more shirts that my husband has gladly (yeah, right!) donated, and maybe one of them will eventually turn into a dress!

Here is how:

1. Take a shirt and lay it out flat:

2013-01-22 21.56.31 (1)

2. Find a dress or shirt that fits you well, and lay it on top of the shirt, trace it:

2013-01-22 21.56.45 (1)

3. Cut along the lines:

2013-01-22 22.07.39 (1)

4. Hem the neckline and the sleeves, add personal touches (I went for a vintage lace collar and lace fabric), and you are done!

Have a great weekend everyone, and don’t forget to stop back tomorrow, I am having a SALE on my blog!

Xo,

Z

Christmas Tag!

I was tagged to do this Christmas tag by Luchessa! Thank you, dear, for tagging me! Here we go:
images-2

1. Which  Holiday do you celebrate? Christmas, and then Russian Christmas (January 7th!), just because one Christmas is never enough! There was also a time in my life when I celebrated both Hanukkah and Christmas!

2. What are you doing for the holidays this year? Going to Wisconsin! Enough said!

3. What’s your favorite holiday drink? Anything caffeinated with peppermint in it, preferably from Starbucks ;)

paperless-cards-feel-better-tree-christmas-ecards-someecards

4. Candy Cane or Gingerbread men? I was going to say neither, but definitely Gingerbread men as I think more about the question. They are easier to chew :)

5. What’s your favorite Holiday/Christmas song? At work – All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth!

But the one that really get’s me in the spirit of Christmas is – Oh Come all Ye Faithful

6. What’s the weirdest gift you’ve ever received? Someone once gave Sam and me a Christmas ornament that said “Our First Christmas 2010″, we got married in 2011, and the people who gave it to us came to our wedding! So I think it was a re-gift.

7. Have you ever made a snowman? Yes, many times! I think growing up in Russia it’s a winter MUST! I also made a miniature one last year for a girl I used to babysit!

8. What is your favorite winter fragrance? Definitely Miss Dior

Miss-Dior-300x300

9. What is at the top of your list this Christmas? Sewing books I posted about a couple days ago!

10. What is most important to you about holidays? Spending DRAMA-FREE time with my family!

I am going to tag all of you my lovely readers to answer all of the questions, and I’d really like to tag the following bloggers:

Megan

Angelica

Katherine

Lauren

And once again, please feel free to do the tag and link your post in the comments below!

OOTD: A ZIG and a ZAG

How do you combine a $4 Adrienne Vittadini  thrifted dress, $10 sale shoes, $6 clearance sweater, a unique handmade jewelry piece, and a $400 Ralph Lauren purse in one outfit?

Here is how:

Hubs and I took the most peaceful walk through the North Loop neighborhood, and then along the River Front here in Minneapolis. The last photo was taken under the Hennepin Ave bridge! I hope you had an awesome Sunday and enjoyed the warm weather in the Cities :)

Cheers,

Z

Met up with my friend Amy, I haven’t seen her since 2007!

Finally finishing my 3 week long lipstick testing for L’Oreal, and getting my reimbursement! YAY!

I’ve also been working on a lot of DIY’s here, so be patient with me! Also, some exciting news and announcements coming to my blog, hopefully on Monday!

Have a fab weekend!

Being Zhenya Updates. AGAIN

I know, you are all probably tired of my updates, but so many things have been going on in my life, that I can’t help, but share :)

After my very unfortunate incident with a manager from Sanctuary Salon Spa in Minneapolis, I was thrown into the pool of “I have to find a new hairstylist” people. See, I am not really a person who jumps from chair to chair. I like to find a good stylist and stick to them. Fortunately for me one of my friends recommended Ray, and needless to say – he was amazing! He works at Studio 54 which is right on Nicolette and 54th street! So if you are looking for a good stylist – definitely check him out!

Here is what my hair looks like now:

About a week and a half ago we went to Kielbasa Festival at Kramarczuk’s in North East Minneapolis. It’s right across the river next to St. Anthony Main.

I really wanted to see Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapels. We did get to see the show, but unfortunately they ran out of the signature beer mugs. Hopefully I’ll be able to score one in a local thrift store or something :)

And an awesome picture of us with a Matryoshka doll:

As some of you already know, I quit my Macy’s job, I don’t work at Clinique anymore. I am now a toddler teacher at the New Horizon Academy. I survived my first week at my new job, and to be honest this week is kind of easier, at least Monday went pretty well, and that’s like 50% of the week, right? :)

We also said good-bye to our MINI, a car that was in Sam’s family for the past 10 years. We traded it in for a Toyota Yaris, which is an automatic, while the MINI was a manual, and I can actually drive the new car! In fact, I am now the main driver in the family :) How exciting!

As one of my girlfriends referred to it – it’s a lipstick color car :)

I have also discovered a new hang out spot for my lunch breaks – DUNN Brother’s on the corner of 2nd and 3rd, near the Stone Arch Bridge. So if you want to stop by and say hi – I am usually there around 1.30 pm, reading my book :)

The sunsets have been gorgeous lately, I wish I could post a hundred pictures of each one, but we’ll keep it simple:

I know I haven’t blogged a whole lot lately, new job, transitioning from retail back to childcare and all that, but I am hoping to jump back on the regular blogging train, so that I can entertain you with more and more exciting stories and DIYs from Minneapolis.

Lots of love,

xo,

Z

One Year Ago Today…

… I married my best friend, and a year later we still haven’t killed each other! I think this is quiet an achievement!

And to celebrate my 1 year wedding anniversary on my blog, here is some advice/wisdom I learned from my wedding:

1. All I cared about was getting my guests fed, seriously! That’s why there was bacon wrapped stake on the menu!

2. Another thing I tried my best to do was keep the wedding under 10 grand, and we were able to accomplish that as well!

3. I wanted a really good photographer. And I found one, on Craigslist! You never know where good things in life come from!

4. I didn’t stress out over anything, well maybe a little, but things seemed to have somehow fallen in place, I found a hairstylist/makeup artist, an extra bridesmaid (thank you Annemarie :) you were a rock star ), did my own flowers, nails, and toes, rocked a pair of 5 inch suede heels, which I still have and wear.

5. Here is the TRUTH, all I wanted from that wedding is for it to be over, so that normal life could begin. And that’s the most important thing to remember – one day is nothing in comparison to a lifetime spent together. I still have wedding photos that need to be framed!

Call me lazy, or boring, or weird, but a wedding is a wedding, but marriage is way WAY more important. So enjoy your day, but don’t get too obsessed!

xo,

Zhenya

PS. Please show it to all the brides you know!

And as a bonus and for all of you who missed it, here are some of my favorite shots from that day!

Check out my hot penguin pants :) Yes, I am that trendy!

The ceremony and the picture taking got the best of me, and I was really tired by the time we got to this point:

But we still pulled off this Hollywood style kiss:

My favorite part of the reception was the cake:

Needless to say this cake ended up in my nose, my eye, my hair :) But it was exceptionally good!

It’s important for the bride to stay goofy – so here is an asparagus mustache for you :)

I liked the little place cards too, and yes my real full name is Evgeniya, though I rarely go by it:

And did I tell you I did my own flowers? And that they came from Costco and that I paid less than $120 for them???

Oh wait, I did, so never mind :)

Thanks to my heels I was taller than Doug

And almost as tall as Sam

Would I want to live through my wedding day again? Probably not, but I am loving every day I spend with my husband, so there :)

Also here is the original post from a year ago, feel free to check it out as well!

Last Friday Night: Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

Yes, I finally did it, I dragged my husband out to the Sculpture Garden, which is “ahem” a 10 minute walk from our house, and also a place where we got married almost a year ago!

I mean it never gets old, so here are a few shots:

My legs are almost see-through – I guess I’ve over worked out :) hmmm But hey I am wearing a thrifted Saks Fifth Avenue Shirt, so that’s legit!

Can you find the fish?

This never gets old (maybe because that’s the only thing in Minneapolis to look at?) Also, sorry random girls, you are now famous on my blog :)

I told you taking pictures of the skyline never gets old :)

Plants are afraid of the dark too, they need a night light!

Lights will guide you… if not home, then well somewhere :)

One more fore the cheap seats in the back!

My favorite quote of them all!

Hope you had fun bumming around The Sculpture Garden with me! How was your weekend? What did you do? Where did you go? Who did you see?

Xo,

Z
