That’s Minneapolis for ya!

Apparently if you want to have a good time in Minneapolis, you call a travel agent:

Milk starts at 9 gallons at CVS!

And Calhoun Bike Rental knows just what to put between your legs!

With all my love from Minneapolis,

A day in life of a blogger: Mother’s Day 2012

Get ready for another overwhelming post with photos from our Sunday trip around Minnesota!

But first of all don’t forget about the GIVEAWAY! You can enter it here. Hurry, you only have a few more days to enter!

Now about our Mother’s day – since my mom is all the way back in Russia, we only had one to pay all of our attention to! My mother in law! I actually got Sam to take a picture with her!

How can you not love them?

Our mother’s day map looked like this:

That pottery place was great! They had free food and coffee too! And of course some cool stuff to look at and take pictures with! If you know me well, you know that I don’t usually buy anything at events like this, but after I am done there I go to a thrift store and find something similar (I have a post on thrifting for home coming up soon! I promise!)  So here are some shots of the place:

There were also these cute puppies, and they were so so soft, I wish I could’ve just taken them home with me!

We also got to take pictures in these awesome chairs, while the guys who were occupying them left 🙂

I also had to take a picture with a barn! These are just fun to spot here and there around the state! And I was always wondering why they were red (or very burnt out red 😉 )

Next we went to Taylors Falls! It’s a state park on the border with Wisconsin. To be honest, I wasn’t really dressed for the place, because it was so rocky, but we had fun anyways!

Look how strong Sam is!

Christmas picture 2012?

Inside a pot hole!

Outfit of the day: Urban outfitters dress and shoes, Steve Madden shades and the CVS Pharmacy reusable bag that has ORGANIC written on it 🙂

Our last stop was FRANCONIA:

It’s a sculpture garden, with some very unusual sculptures!

I hope you had fun looking through the pictures of our day with us! If you speak Russian don’t forget to check out this video! And even if you don’t speak Russian, go ahead and check it out!

Latest Additions to my Beauty Collection

I’ve been shopping a little lately, well not really a little, the new bag, then the Old Navy Haul, now Beauty purchases, I am on a kind of roll and I keep telling myself that I gotta stop. But before I do, let me share some of my latest purchases with you!

If you follow me on Twitter on Instagram, you might have already seen these pictures, but I realize that not everyone is as obsessed/dependent on their phone as me, so here they are again:

As you can see, I got some Revlon and Maybelline (sorry, Clinique, but it’s taking too long to get my gratis :/)

Anyways I needed some powder, and even tough I said that I am never ever again buying pressed powder, I went against all odds and got a pressed Revlon Photo Ready powder in Light/Medium.

I also got a Revlon Photo Ready Pore Perfecting Primer, I had some of my Russian subscribers ask me if it was foundation. I know that the filter on the picture makes the primer look darker, it’s actually pretty pink 🙂 Now I am not going to lie, I am a huge fan of Clinique’s Instant Pore Perfector in Light – that stuff is magic and makes your skin super smooth. And even though Revlon’s isn’t as good as that, it’s really not supposed to be – first of all it’s a primer for a foundation, when Clinique’s product is just a treatment that’s supposed to minimize the look of your pores. It’s really hard to compare to be honest with you, but I can tell you one thing – Revlon’s product is a lot larger, so it’s a better value for the money. Again, sorry, Clinique!

Plus I got those two products at CVS and it was buy one, get one half off, and I had the coupons, and I got another $5 Extra Bucks out of it, so I firmly believe that I should become the official Beauty blogger for CVS pharmacy, so someone nominate me 🙂

Then I got the Maybelline Color Tattoo’s in 50 “Edgy Emerald” and 25 “Bad to the Bronze” – haven’t tried them yet, but the reviews are too good to pass out on this product, I had coupons for those little jars of popping color as well!

Today I went to Aveda. See, I am trying to switch all of my haircare and body care products over to Aveda. The process is going to take a long long time, because I have a whole bunch of products at the moment, but I’ll get there 🙂 Today I started with hairspray:

I got the witch hazel hair spray to control my fly-aways, plus witch hazel is simply awesome. I also signed up for Aveda membership/points/rewards program, so I am pretty psyched about that 🙂 Plus check out all of my free samples! Gotta love Aveda for that!

If you have tried any of those products, please leave a comment below, I’d love to hear your opinion! And I am going to do a more thorough review on some of the products that I mentioned here!

Hope you all had an awesome day,

Cheers,

Z

Thrifting for Treasure 3 – Home Edition

Hey everyone and happy Monday! Here on Being Zhenya I enjoy every day of the week! Why? Because every day has something amazing and new to bring, plus every day includes amazing finds and discoveries. Today I found 10% sulfur at our local CVS – there is definitely a good side to living very close to a hispanic neighborhood. I will tell you more about it in one of my upcoming blog posts. Today’s is all about thrifting (AGAIN 🙂 )

When thrifting for treasure, you mustn’t forget that treasure can also be something you can use to decorate your home, not just clothes and purses. So I wanted to quickly show you some things that I have thrifted over the past month and that I use to decorate our apartment.

My latest find are these 4 paintings, which I got for 2 dollars at the Salvation Army – they would’ve cost me 4 dollars, but it was a blue tag sale day, so I got 50% off.

Whoever donated those – THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! I also apologize for the quality of these pictures, but Sam and I have been talking, and we are going to try and get a new camera around Christmas – since I also have some ideas on what kind of photography related posts I want to do around Minneapolis! Shhhhhh! It’s a secret.

The next pieces all came from SPSS (Steeple People on S.Lyndale)

These are embroidered potted plants. Since I hate real potted plants, I went for the embroidered version. The one on the left is Cyclamen and the one on the right is Azalea. And I don’t ever need to water these! How awesome is that!

Do you remember the Tea Pot Song, the one that was short and stout? Well my $1 Salvation Army tea pot is quiet elegant:

And last but not least, my coffee tin – I wish coffee came in such tins now. Can’t even put this next to a modern day plastic coffee jar/tin/whateverintheworlditis.

I know these are not major purchases, but they serve their decorating purposes well! Also, Sam won’t let me get a coffee table! So please leave comments under this post, and let me know if you want me to have a coffee table or not!

Love you all,

Homemade Face Toner

Yay, I am back with a new DIY. And today’s DIY is a beauty/health project. Don’t you love those? I do! I am always looking for some homemade recipes to try out, and the best thing is – you already have most of the ingredients!

Today I am going to share a recipe of a homemade rosewater, glycerin, witch hazel and rosemary toner. Here’s what you’ll need:

– a bottle (made out of dark glass, or any bottle that doesn’t let the sun rays through, or just keep this toner in a dark place 🙂 )

– a measuring cup! (love my PYREX one!)

– 1/2 cup Witch hazel

– 1 cup Rose Water with Glycerin (if you only have rose water, you will need 2 tbsp of glycerin)

– 10 drops of rosemary oil (The benefits of rosemary oil are: Rosemary oil has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. When applied on the skin, it rejuvenates the skin condition by improving blood circulation and fortifying the blood capillaries present in the skin. It can fight inflammation and skin irritations and is useful in treating acne, dermatitis, eczema and other skin diseases. Regular massaging with rosemary oil can make your skin smooth and glowing).

I chose rosemary oil for two main reasons:

1. That is the only essential oil that I currently have 🙂

2. I firmly believe that it helps with acne!

Now here is what you do!

Step 1: Prepare your bottle (mine came from Marshall’s and it actually came with water 🙂 ) – make sure it’s clean and the lid goes on well.

Step 2: Measure 1 cup of Rose water and pour into the bottle:

Step 3: Measure 1/2 cup Witch hazel and pour into the bottle:

Step 3: Now add the rosemary oil (or any other essential oil of your choice – as long as it benefits your skin!)

And you are done! Enjoy your amazing home made face toner. And let me know how it works on your skin!
