Models Own Make up at Ulta

Models-Own-at-Ulta

Playing with make up is probably one of my favorite things to do. Unfortunately I don’t get to do it as much as I wish I could. So I decided to turn it around this weekend and finally got to the package from ModelsOwn, which is a UK based brand now available at Ulta.

Price wise ModelsOwn is on par with NYX and other drug store brands. The products come in bright and colorful packaging which makes it even more exciting.

Here is what I got to play with today:

Models-Own-at-Ulta

Luxestick Velvet Lipstick in Deep Berry ($8.99) – a great deep color I will definitely be saving for nights out and fall. It’s easy to apply, and lasts a good amount of time, but I definitely recommend using a lip pencil with it!

Models-Own-at-Ulta

I-Definer Kohl Pencil Eyeliner in Black Onyx ($7.99) – love this pencil, it’s precise, intense and waterproof. Plus it goes on very smooth, especially when you draw hearts on your hands ūüėõ

Models-Own-at-Ulta

Sculpt & Glow Highlighter Powder in Peach Pearl ($11.99) – a summer must have for all of us who’ve been deprived of natural glow by mother nature. Use it on your cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow for best results. I always put my highlighter on before powder just in case I overdo it, then the powder helps conceal the excess highlighter. What about you? Are you a before or after powder highlighter girl? Confused by the question? Me too! Let’s move on.

Models-Own-at-Ulta

Barely There Eyeshadow Palette ($17.99) – a great starter palette if you are just tapping your toe in the world of makeup. It combines dusky pinks, soft nudes and creamy browns for creating a truly natural look. It does come with a few shimmery colors so you can easily take your look from day to night. The palette comes with a dual end brush and being the brush snob that I am, I actually don’t mind this applicator. So kudos to you ModelsOwn! However, I highly recommend using a primer as this product tends to get dusty.

And there you have it! I have successfully played around with some make up and hopefully wrote a decent review for you to enjoy! I believe there is a special promo going on around this line at Ulta at the moment. But I do want to let you know that this product was sent to me for review and this is my honest opinion. Have a gorgeous day everyone!

Luminess Air Airbrush Essentials

luminess-air

Testing out and reviewing new beauty products is probably one of the main reasons why I love blogging so much. Today I wanted to share my review of the Airbrush Essentials from Luminess Air.

I started using Luminess Air products about a year or so ago, and quickly fell in love with the ease of application, ability to determine the coverage, and the long lasting effect of it.

This fall¬†I’ve partnered up with Luminess Air again to bring you a series of reviews that I will be sharing over the course of the next few months.

I started with the Airbrush Essentials. A set of 3 products aimed to target different skin concerns. The set includes:

  1. Porcelain – helps create the smoothest, most flawless skin.
  2. Eraser – erases uneven skin texture and large pores.
  3. X-out – conceals dark circles under eyes.

All of these products are meant to be used pre-foundation. Porcelain is a primer, Eraser is a serum, and X-out is a concealer. So you are getting a variety of products in this set.

Now when it comes to using them, I definitely prefer Porcelain most days, with a little X-out thrown in as needed.

airbrush-essentials airbrush-essentials

Now if you’ve never used airbrush makeup, I would recommend starting out with as little as possible and gradually layer up. When applying multiple layers of product, like I have here, don’t over-do it. Less is more, and a little goes a long ways are the two rules that are¬†definitely applied¬†to airbrush cosmetics. My other tip, always use finishing powder. I’ve been trying out Luminess Translucent powder, however I am not impressed with the brush and how the dispenser is set up. So I would definitely not recommend that.

Overall Airbrush Essentials set impressed me with the¬†performance, color (that was a concern, because I thought it wouldn’t match or layer with the foundation well) and ease of use. I do appreciate Airbrush Cosmetics for eliminating the need to touch my face, and its ability to conceal almost everything.

Have you tried Airbrush Cosmetics? What did you think?

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara Review

IMG_4161 IMG_4191

Winter is a perfect season for beauty reviews, because I don’t have to go outside and take outfit photos. I recently received new Velvet Noir mascara by Marc Jacobs Beauty, thus the review. I feel like mascara is a product you don’t need to test out for weeks to know if you like it or not. Of course there is the aspect of what happens to the formula over time and whether it’s going to be as easy to apply as it is now, or if it’s going to thicken, but I am going to ignore this aspect altogether today.

Something interesting I learned about the Velvet Noir mascara is that it was inspired by Marc Jacobs’s first beauty memory of his mother carefully shaving fibers from a velvet ribbon to create her own couture faux lashes.  2016-01-02 14.53.47

The mascara is thick in consistency, glides on extremely well, brush is shaped unlike any other mascara I’ve used, and is overall a pleasure to apply. It is also formulated without¬†Paragons,¬†Sulfates and¬†Phthalates. Yes, it is pricey $26.00 but you get a lot of product for the buck. I am still trying to get used to the product and its application. I definitely recommend it for the volume, but not so much for length. Also be careful with how much you apply, because the lashes can end up looking clumpy.

Beauty Brunch: Collagen Factor

CollagenFactor

Having been obsessed with serums and anti-aging products for the past year or so, I started researching collagen and it’s benefits.¬†

Collagen is a type of fibrous protein arranged in a triple helix pattern and found extensively throughout the bodies of people and animals. It supports skin, internal organs, muscles, bone, joints, and cartilage. There are at least 16 types of collagen that occur naturally in the body, with the most abundant form in the human body being known as type 1 collagen. Collagen works in tandem with elastin to give skin its texture, structure, ability to stretch, and appearance. Sun damage (extrinsic aging) and chronologic aging (intrinsic aging) causes collagen in the skin to deteriorate (Sources¬†Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, December 2013, ePublication;¬†PLoS One, August 2013, eCollection; and¬†Molecular Cell Biology, 4th Edition, W.H. Freeman, 2000) –¬†Paulaschoice.com

Meehan Formulations has a small, but effective collagen line, called Collagen Factor, which helps restore skins elasticity, and slow down anti-aging process caused by sun, environment, and chemicals.

MeehanFormulationsCollagenFactor

I was lucky to try Collagen Serum and Finishing Moisturizer. And here is what I thought.

Collagen serum

A lightweight serum formulated to stimulate the growth of collagen and greatly reduce the signs of aging that occurs from diminished elasticity. The tinted version contains pine bark and vitamin C which add a little sun kissed glow to your skin!

The product came in 1 oz amber glass bottle with a dropper. Are you thinking what I am thinking? How very vintage! I love using the dropper. It makes me feel like I work in an apothecary. The serum itself goes on smoothly, but leaves my skin feeling wet, so I let it dry for about a minute before applying the moisturizer. The product doesn’t really have any smell, and that’s definitely a plus. I normally use about 5-10 drops, and measure them off separately for the different parts of my face, mainly forehead and cheeks. Having spent the majority of my summer outdoors, this is the product I want to keep around for as long as I can to prevent/slow down sun damage.

CollagenFactor

Finishing Moisturizer

A light moisturizer, inclusive of the serum, designed to stimulate the growth of collagen and greatly reduce the signs of aging that occurs from diminished elasticity.  Moisturizer base is a non allergenic foundation moisturizer that supports all skin types, including sensitive skin.

The moisturizer has a pinkish tint to it. I am so used to white colored products, that I was a little surprised by that. As you can see in the picture, the moisturizer comes out from the pump and holds it shape. If it can do it to my skin in the long run, I am in 110%! Once again the product has no obvious smell. It goes on very smoothly, absorbs quickly, but leaves my skin feeling a little sticky, until I apply my regular foundation, or simply touch up with a finishing powder.

What’s with all the anti-aging products, Zhenya?

You may be wondering, why I have been so obsessed with anti-aging products. There are two reasons. No woman wants to look older than she really is. If I can slow down the appearance of wrinkles without Botox, using only the skincare products, I will take full advantage of that. I am going back to college to get another bachelor’s degree, and want to put my best face forward.

Have a great Sunday! How do you take care of your skin?

Studio Gear Cosmetics Holiday Smokey Eye Palette Review

2013-12-01 11.45.49
Today’s palette review will hopefully save you a lot of trouble! To be honest, I’ve never heard of Studio Gear before this Brand Backer campaign, but was willing to try something new! Besides when I see “Smoky” and ¬†“Eye” together in a sentence, I get weak at the knees!

2013-11-26 10.42.56 2013-11-26 10.43.56.jpg

The four eyeshadow colors seem to be the perfect combo for creating that holiday look. They are very shimmery, and unfortunately because of that, barely stick, even when using Urban Decay Primer Potion (and that stuff is the bee’s knees!) The blush though seems to be a perfect wintery color, is highly pigmented and you need very little of it, otherwise you are risking overdoing it!

Another thing I noticed is that after fiddling with the different brushes and eyeshadow combos for a while, I seemed to be able to create something relatively presentable and holiday like. Though the eyeshadows are extremely flakey and end up under your eyes, so the good way to solve this issue is first applying your eye make up, then the concealer, foundation, BB cream, or anything else of your choice!

So from this…

2013-12-01 11.34.48

I went to this:

2013-12-01 11.43.49 2013-12-01 11.46.01 2013-12-01 11.47.35

Not too shabby, but I was so tired after doing my makeup, I had to stretch and it felt soooo good!

The search for the perfect holiday palette continues! Have you found yours?

Is Becca Really The One?

2013-11-16 13.32.02

2013-11-24 12.12.18

Today I am going to tell you a story of a $50 makeup brush ($49 + tax to be exact) that is going to change your life, and the way you apply makeup everyday. Becca brush is The One Perfecting Brush.

From start to finish, primer to powder, The One Perfecting Brush can be used with liquids, creams, powders and anything in between. Non-porous, high-quality goat hair allows product to sit on top of bristles rather than absorbing, ensuring a seamless application with no wasted product. It can be used effectively as a foundation brush, powder brush, contour brush, bronzer brush, stipple brush, blush brush, fan brush, concealer brush, kabuki, or sponge.

2013-11-24 12.12.08

2013-11-24 12.13.10

Size matters:¬†Have you seen this thing? It’s huge! And makes the application of my favorite Cover Girl loose powder so much faster! I save about a minute every morning!

Know your how:¬†Using this brush is no piece of cake, make sure to read the instructions and use each side as directed. This is the most important concept of this brush. It’s versatility allows you to narrow your brush collection to minimum, but you need to learn to use it! And use it correctly.

With foundation:
-Using the broad side of the brush, sweep foundation horizontally across forehead and then move to cheeks and chin.
-Finish by sweeping vertically down the nose using the narrow surface of the brush.

With highlighter:
-Using the narrow surface of the brush, sweep illuminator down the tops of cheekbones and down the bridge of nose.

With mineral bronzing powder or contour enhancer:
-Using the narrow surface of the brush, sweep brush under cheekbones, down sides of nose, and around temples.

With blush or beach tint:
-Using the corner of the brush, buff into apples of cheeks using a circular motion and blend out.

The brush is great, beauty bloggers are swooning all over it on Twitter and Instagram. I got it through my iFabbo membership (READ: free), and was definitely impressed. The brush doesn’t shed, the bristles are natural, soft to the touch and pleasant against the skin. This product has definitely been though through and marketed the right way.

But I am going to be honest with you, has this brush substituted all my other brushes? No! I can’t use a brush to apply powder that I have just dipped into my foundation. Even if it’s all the way across on the other end of it. I have been using it to apply powder and create finishing touches. I will keep using Becca brush, and love it, and play with it. And I am ever so grateful I was able to try it out for free.

Happy Wednesday!

Zhenya

Victoria Jackson Foundation Duo Review

2013-11-24 12.08.29

I have recently received a Victoria Jackson foundation duo, and today I am excited to share my opinion with you.

I’ve never heard of Victoria Jackson brand before, and to be honest I was more interested in the product than the brand. I’ve always wanted to try a foundation duo, especially the kind that you had to apply with a sponge.

If you know me and my makeup habits, you have probably figured out by now that I absolutely love BB creams, CC creams, tinted moisturizers and such. But when I worked at Clinique, I was always curious about the City Base foundation. This Victoria Jackson product reminded me of it.

2013-11-24 12.10.52

I ordered the medium shade (there are 4 available – light, medium, tan and dark). The website description of this foundation is:

Two skin-perfecting shades can be used alone or blended together to exactly match your complexion. Victoria’s foundation is ideal because it gives you all the coverage you need without added layers. Also ideal for concealing problem areas such as under-eye circles.¬†

Sounds pretty great, right? And it delivers. I enjoyed the smoothness of application, the way the shades blend together, adding a perfect touch of highlight and glow. The concealer part of it was definitely something that sold me on it! Especially under eyes. Wake up at 5.45 am every morning anyone?

PicMonkey Collage

PicMonkey Collage1

The foundation definitely covered up the redness, minor blemishes, evened out my skin tone.

But then I find myself wondering about how many germs are breeding on that sponge when not in use? And how it’s almost impossible to wash the sponge out… And unfortunately the foundation is not long lasting at all. I have combination oily skin and I feel like it just get’s absorbed into my pores and in 2 hours needs to be reapplied again.¬†I also can’t help but wonder whether I should’ve gone with the lighter shade, because the medium seems to be too yellow for me. The price was also something that didn’t settle with me, it’s $29.95, and even though there are multiple discounts available, there are other tried and true foundations that are in the same price range, and last a lot longer. Would I buy this foundation again? No, I wouldn’t, but I am glad I tried it.

Have you ever tried Victoria Jackson products? What is your opinion?

New Season, New Shampoo, NaTu Haircare Review

561519_10153327338890604_2134241889_n

“Switch up your shampoo and conditioner with the season” – is the advice I keep hearing. And for once I have actually followed it. If you know me, you know that I like to buy in bulk, or a bottle so large, it will last me, for at least 8-9 months. That’s what happened to all these guys:

2013-10-21 11.13.07

MInd you, there is still product left in all these bottles!

So what made me switch? What did NaTu do? Well, the first thing they did was send me full size products and not samples, like I expected. And that alone made me realize that I can do a full on, complete, 360 review!

Here is what NaTu sent me:

Professional Colorist Shampoo, 250 ml/8.4 oz

Professional Colorist Conditioner 250 ml/8.4 oz

Volumizing Mist 90 ml/3 oz

And we all just learned how many ml per oz, didn’t we? ūüėČ

What they also sent me was the Glossary of Ingredients and all I can say is that it’s the most informative little booklet I’ve seen in months! They really are giving us the facts here and not “faking” naturals like a lot of brands seem to do these days.

The very first time I washed my hair with the shampoo I immediately noticed that it didn’t lather up as well as my old shampoo that contains SLS. It reminded me of the Whole Foods brand shampoo that I used back when I lived in New York. But that was just the first use. I haven’t had any problems lathering it up since. The conditioner works great, and of course I am using it up faster than the shampoo, that’s my life.

The natural smell reminds me of Aveda, which Minnesota is known for. But it’s not as strong, though will stay on your hair all day, unless you use a different hair product. Since I air dry my hair most of the time, I do end up smelling like NaTu for the rest of the day, and so far, no one has complained ūüôā

Now about the volumizing mist – I am in love! I have tried a lot of products and since I shout about my fine hair from the roof tops, let me give a shout out to this product – It is worth your buck! Have you seen my latest posts? Pay attention to my hair!

Here is my verdict – I love it, it is good for your hair and scalp. As for the wallet? The three products together are $54 so it’s up for you to decide. But I’ll be honest, I’ve tried so many products from Suave to Fekkai to Khiels, and this one definitely stands out. My final advice – if you are not sure about the shampoo/conditioner combo, at least try the volumizing mist!

Check out NaTu Website for more products, details, prices, etc.

Happy Shampooing!

Zhenya

{Bare Love Hair} Luxury Hair Fuel Review

Hair is every woman’s pride and joy! And today I’m going to share with you one of my newly discovered secrets. A product by Bare Love Hair – Luxury Hair Fuel.

2013-08-19 09.50.02

Luxury Hair Fuel is hair and scalp treatment that is supposed to help rid hair of dullness and dryness and if used on the scalp, it prevents flaking and dryness.
There are two different ways you can use this product:
– applying it to towel dry hair prior to styling,
– massaging it into the scalp prior to shampooing.
And all you need is one pump!
Since my hair has been rather dry this summer, due to spending a lot of time outside in the sun, I thought this was a perfect product for me to try!
Surprisingly, one pump is enough, and two is too much! Trust me, you don’t want to overdo it, even if you have long hair, you’ll end up with greasy locks and that never looks attractive.
The good:
– it’s an all-natural blend of skin-compatible oils,
– it moisturizers and adds shine,
– smells beautifully,
– helps control frizz and defines hair’s natural curl
– it’s made with a unique OlioLove Technology that is exclusive to the brand.
The bad:
– it’s pricey $28 for 1 oz,
– the pump spits at you when you are trying to get the product out and squirts all over the place, which leads to product waste,
– your hair will look greasy if you do two or more pumps.

Stay tuned for more “hair” posts to come!

Z
