Beauty Brunch – GHD Curve Review

ghd-curve

Happy Sunday beautiful people! This year I am bringing back the weekly Beauty Brunch section on my blog, where you’ll be able to find lists of my favorite products, reviews and all other beauty related updates.

I want to start this series with a GHD Curve review, a styling tool that I have been using for the past couple of months. It’s a barrel shaped curling wand that has replaced all the other wands I own. This ghd tool combines patented tri-zone technology and the optimum curling temperature to help style all hair types and textures. From my personal experience it’s definitely easier to use when your hair is on the longer side. I recently got a hair cut and it’s a bit challenging to curl my hair. I also recommend using a heat protectant when styling with GHD Curve. Another helpful tip – hair spray before and after the use! That will make your curls last longer.

Luminess Air Airbrush Essentials

luminess-air

Testing out and reviewing new beauty products is probably one of the main reasons why I love blogging so much. Today I wanted to share my review of the Airbrush Essentials from Luminess Air.

I started using Luminess Air products about a year or so ago, and quickly fell in love with the ease of application, ability to determine the coverage, and the long lasting effect of it.

This fall I’ve partnered up with Luminess Air again to bring you a series of reviews that I will be sharing over the course of the next few months.

I started with the Airbrush Essentials. A set of 3 products aimed to target different skin concerns. The set includes:

  1. Porcelain – helps create the smoothest, most flawless skin.
  2. Eraser – erases uneven skin texture and large pores.
  3. X-out – conceals dark circles under eyes.

All of these products are meant to be used pre-foundation. Porcelain is a primer, Eraser is a serum, and X-out is a concealer. So you are getting a variety of products in this set.

Now when it comes to using them, I definitely prefer Porcelain most days, with a little X-out thrown in as needed.

airbrush-essentials airbrush-essentials

Now if you’ve never used airbrush makeup, I would recommend starting out with as little as possible and gradually layer up. When applying multiple layers of product, like I have here, don’t over-do it. Less is more, and a little goes a long ways are the two rules that are definitely applied to airbrush cosmetics. My other tip, always use finishing powder. I’ve been trying out Luminess Translucent powder, however I am not impressed with the brush and how the dispenser is set up. So I would definitely not recommend that.

Overall Airbrush Essentials set impressed me with the performance, color (that was a concern, because I thought it wouldn’t match or layer with the foundation well) and ease of use. I do appreciate Airbrush Cosmetics for eliminating the need to touch my face, and its ability to conceal almost everything.

Have you tried Airbrush Cosmetics? What did you think?

Aixallia Skincare Review

“This post was sponsored by Aixallia as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central. I received complimentary products to facilitate my review.”

Taking care of my skin in the summer has never been easy. Between my regular trips to the beach, sailing and hanging out on the town, I can never seem to achieve a lifestyle balance, and end up using a wide plethora of products aiming to tame one skin condition or other (seriously everything from wrinkles to acne to sun damage, throw in some stress rash and you have, well, my skin).

But maybe there is hope for a lost cause like me! I was recently introduced to a French brand Aixallia, which was founded in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur of Southern France. Aixallia combines a unique proprietary ultra-pure water with Mediterranean botanicals to produce fresh and rich products that help cleanse and hydrate, it is formulated with locally harvested, organic French Mediterranean botanicals, and is ECOCERT French organic certified.

I got to try out the initial line of Aixallia products, which includes:

  • Rose and Argan Revitalizing Eye Cream $45 for 0.5 oz (shea butter, organ oil, rose water, apricot kernel oil)
  • Green Tea Protective Day Cream $48 for 1.7 oz (olive oil, vitamin E, rose water, green tea)
  • Lavender Soothing Night Cream $52 for 1.7 oz (lavender water, sea heather)
  • Olive and Rose Hydrating Hand Cream $20 for 1.7 oz (olive oil, shea butter, beeswax, floral rose)
  • Rose and Almond Hydrating Body Lotion $28 for 6.8 oz (amino acids, Vitamins A, D, E, K, almond oil, Provencal honey, floral rose water)
  • Five Plants Emulsifying Make-Up Remover $28 for 5.1 oz ( floral cornflower water, plant extracts, mallow extract, red vine and blueberry organic floral waters)
  • Coconut and Calendula Exfoliating Shower Gel $16 for 6.8 oz (fine coconut powder, calendula extracts)

The greatest thing about Aixallia products was how easily I could incorporate them into my daily routine. From moisturizing to cleansing, to removing makeup I got all the bases covered, with an exception of a face wash. I love the slightly scented products, I strongly believe in the power of fragrance, and how it can affect one’s daily mood. So far it’s only been positive with Aixallia.

Aixallia day, night and eye creams are conveniently equipped with pumps, making it so much easier to dispense and eliminate the unnecessary contact between the product and air. When we had a dog, I always used to find its hair in my skincare creams, and even before that twist off lids were one of my biggest pet peeves.

The hand cream has quickly occupied a permanent spot in my makeup bag and gets transferred from purse to purse. I try not to leave my house without it at all. Bonus perk – it can also be used as a foot cream! I am all about multi-purpose products this season!

And finally, the exfoliating shower gel is perfect for the summer, especially after long days at the beach. The extra coconut powder particles really help get all the impurities out and smooth the skin to prepare it for all the intended and unintended tanning.

Aixallia is proud to support charitywater.org, a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations, by donating 1% of net product sales revenue.

If you would like to try out some of the Aixallia products make sure to use code Blog20 to get 20% off of your online order! Just a little bonus something for you for following me and my blog!

Valentia Eye Cream and Mask Review

valentia

I love new skincare products, and I can never say no to a new brand reaching out to me offering their latests and greatest. As some of you know, my skin acts all weird when I am stressed, and there are very few products that I can use to keep it from getting worse. Fortunately, it’s only the beginning of the semester and I had no problem trying the new Valentia products.

So here is what I got: True Glow Eye Cream and Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask. The True Glow Eye Cream is supposed to diminish fine lines & wrinkles, nourish & hydrate, tighten the under eye area, brighten dark circles, and reduce puffiness. I simply wanted the cream not to cause an allergic reaction, or make my eyes water, and it didn’t. The rest of the claims are the claims that every eye cream makes, I am yet to see the difference.

valentia plumping mask

The Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask was yellow, like a really weird yellow color, that I totally didn’t expect when I opened the package. However, it smelled wonderfully and worked really well with my skin. The directions said to keep it on for 15-30 minutes. Go big or go home, I thought, and left it on for the whole 30. The mask promises to boost collagen production, increase skin radiance, reduces fine lines, lock in skins moisture and reveals softer smoother skin.

Overall I am extremely happy with Valentia products, I feel like the eye cream is an especially good product, and the mask is a nice way to relax and unwind after a long day.

Beauty Brunch: Collagen Factor

CollagenFactor

Having been obsessed with serums and anti-aging products for the past year or so, I started researching collagen and it’s benefits.

Collagen is a type of fibrous protein arranged in a triple helix pattern and found extensively throughout the bodies of people and animals. It supports skin, internal organs, muscles, bone, joints, and cartilage. There are at least 16 types of collagen that occur naturally in the body, with the most abundant form in the human body being known as type 1 collagen. Collagen works in tandem with elastin to give skin its texture, structure, ability to stretch, and appearance. Sun damage (extrinsic aging) and chronologic aging (intrinsic aging) causes collagen in the skin to deteriorate (Sources Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, December 2013, ePublication; PLoS One, August 2013, eCollection; and Molecular Cell Biology, 4th Edition, W.H. Freeman, 2000) – Paulaschoice.com

Meehan Formulations has a small, but effective collagen line, called Collagen Factor, which helps restore skins elasticity, and slow down anti-aging process caused by sun, environment, and chemicals.

MeehanFormulationsCollagenFactor

I was lucky to try Collagen Serum and Finishing Moisturizer. And here is what I thought.

Collagen serum

A lightweight serum formulated to stimulate the growth of collagen and greatly reduce the signs of aging that occurs from diminished elasticity. The tinted version contains pine bark and vitamin C which add a little sun kissed glow to your skin!

The product came in 1 oz amber glass bottle with a dropper. Are you thinking what I am thinking? How very vintage! I love using the dropper. It makes me feel like I work in an apothecary. The serum itself goes on smoothly, but leaves my skin feeling wet, so I let it dry for about a minute before applying the moisturizer. The product doesn’t really have any smell, and that’s definitely a plus. I normally use about 5-10 drops, and measure them off separately for the different parts of my face, mainly forehead and cheeks. Having spent the majority of my summer outdoors, this is the product I want to keep around for as long as I can to prevent/slow down sun damage.

CollagenFactor

Finishing Moisturizer

A light moisturizer, inclusive of the serum, designed to stimulate the growth of collagen and greatly reduce the signs of aging that occurs from diminished elasticity.  Moisturizer base is a non allergenic foundation moisturizer that supports all skin types, including sensitive skin.

The moisturizer has a pinkish tint to it. I am so used to white colored products, that I was a little surprised by that. As you can see in the picture, the moisturizer comes out from the pump and holds it shape. If it can do it to my skin in the long run, I am in 110%! Once again the product has no obvious smell. It goes on very smoothly, absorbs quickly, but leaves my skin feeling a little sticky, until I apply my regular foundation, or simply touch up with a finishing powder.

What’s with all the anti-aging products, Zhenya?

You may be wondering, why I have been so obsessed with anti-aging products. There are two reasons. No woman wants to look older than she really is. If I can slow down the appearance of wrinkles without Botox, using only the skincare products, I will take full advantage of that. I am going back to college to get another bachelor’s degree, and want to put my best face forward.

Have a great Sunday! How do you take care of your skin?

The Inverted Smokey Eye

inverted-smokey-eye

Have you ever been stuck in a makeup rut? Stuck so deep, that you didn’t want to wear eye makeup anymore?
If you know anything about my makeup preferences, you may know that I am an eyeshadow freak, palettes, singles, special editions – I am there. Lipstick is the second favorite on my list, but it’s nowhere near eyeshadow.

I have been using less makeup over the summer, but by less I mean I cut out eyeshadow, and that didn’t make sense to me. So when one of my friends on Twitter suggested I do an inverted smokey eye, I thought to myself – why not?

The inverted trend has always been on my radar, but for some reason I’ve never tried it. It was time for a change. And Macy’s Glamorama was the perfect occasion.

naked-palette

I naturally reached for my Naked palette for this look. Since Glamorama I have experimented with a few inverted smokey eye combos and if you are familiar with the palette, here are the combos that I’ve tried and loved (from the inner corner out):

Dark Horse -> Smog -> Half Baked

Hustle -> Toasted -> Sin

Creep -> Gunmetal

Sidecar -> Sin

And this is the rest of my beauty arsenal 😉 Haha

And the afters! I have finally been able to create the perfect cat eye. Well, it’s perfect in my world, because I haven’t been able to (and been lazy) do a good cat eye. It’s all in the brush, and I have been in love with my Sigma E06!

Aren’t You a Doll Face?

doll-face-beauty-brand

doll-face-skincare

I have started using a new skincare brand called Doll Face about a week and a half ago, and wanted to share some info, and definitely my opinion with you.

A little history first, Doll Face was born in the shadow of the famed Hollywood sign by a team of visionary beauty “creationists” who have crafted a naturally potent, clean skincare brand with modern ethos inspired by the glamour and style of retro Hollywood.

Doll Face combines the best of science and nature, with super-effective blends of power-packed active ingredients that effectively cleanse, hydrate, perfect, refine and brighten the skin.

Some of the Doll Face clever ingredient are: Buriti Fruit Oil, Super Berry Seed Oil, Sea Buckthorn Berry, Willow Bark Extract, etc.

All of the products are never formulated with paragons, mineral oil, PABA, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Paraffin, DEA, Triclosan, Petrolatum, animal-derived ingredients or harmful dyes.

I got to try Intensive Age Defend cream, and a Balancing Tonic. Let’s talk about those.

doll-face-intensive-age-defense-cream

The Intensive Age Defense Cream helps visibly reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, is suitable for all skin types, and comes in a beautifully packaged 2 oz packaging. Retails for $58.

This is a gel-cream, and it was a little hard to get used to it at first, since I haven’t used one in a while. I definitely like it though, because I feel like with this product a little goes a long way! And I love that. I have tried using it twice a day, but so far I like it as my night treatment the best, because as you may have guessed it, it doesn’t contain SPF. I also noticed that it doesn’t mix well with other products, and by mixing, I mean layering. Or when worn by itself (on my day off, when I am not wearing makeup), it often gathers up and peels off of my skin. I am going to experiment more with what I use it with, but so far, I am giving it 3 out of 5 stars.

doll-face-balancing-tonic

Balancing tonic purifies pores and brightens dull skin, it’s suitable for normal-to-oily skin and comes in an 8 oz packaging. Retails for $24.

This product, in my opinion is suitable for even combination skin, and that’s what I have. I am definitely noticing my skin brighten after I use it, though sometimes I end up using extra powder to cover up the shine, as it starts looking too oily for my liking. The product smells great, and the packaging is definitely appealing. I really enjoy having it in my bathroom. I am a huge fan of toners and such, so this product fits right in! I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall my experience with Doll Face was nothing but pleasant. There were no breakouts, no allergic reactions. Just a new addition to my skincare routine! (Aren’t those the best?)

Have you ever tried Doll Face? What do you think? What kind of skin care products do you use in your daily routine?

Don’t forget that Milwaukee Blogger Bazaar is tomorrow, Saturday, June 14. I hope to see you there! I’ll be bringing a lot of vintage and hand-made items for you!

Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox 2012

Blogging, just like everything in life comes with it’s own perks. Today I am sharing one of mine – the Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox 2012. I’ve recently received it in the mail. It was sent to me from this amazing website – Influenster.com . I highly recommend that you give this website a shot, especially if you are beauty/skincare/makeup obsessed, or just like free stuff 🙂 Plus the website has a new updated interface, which is way more user friendly, the reviews are easy to find and are honest, because they are written by ordinary people, just like you and me!

So what was in my box?

I was kind of upset because I didn’t get a bonus item. Select members got either a Vitabath Fragrance Mist or a Boots No 7 Beautiful Skin. I really wish I would’ve gotten the latter, I’ve been dying to try that line. I guess I’ll just have to splurge and buy some of the products. Thankfully that line is available at Target!

Here is my super cute miniature candle, the box also included a $10 coupon on a 3 wick Bath & Body Works candle, but since I’ve already done all of my candle shopping for the season, I think I am going to hold off on that one! Let me know if you want that coupon and I’ll mail it to you!

Another thing that I have tried out of the box, and probably what I was most excited for was this NYC palette, which includes 4 eyeshadows (2 matte, 2 shimmer), a primer and a creamy illuminator. I used it to do my makeup on Friday!

I have also tried the EBOOST powder, mixed it with my water and drank it last night! That thing fizzes up!

I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this anytime soon, because a box of 20 pouches (single servings) is $28! Airborne serves the same purpose, and is much more affordable! If you are looking for a good Airborne knock-off try CVS brand, I’ve tried that and Target brand and I can definitely say that CVS is much closer to the real thing than Target!

And finally there is a 1.5 oz tube of Not Your Mother’s Smooth Moves Frizz Control Hair Cream, Kiss Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit and Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin – I will dedicate separate posts to those two products, though I am kind of skeptical about the pins, maybe it’s the fact that I have rather fine hair 🙂

So there you have it, my Beauty Blogger VoxBox 2012! Did you get a box? What was in it? What do you like or dislike about it? Do tell!

Everyday Fashion From Around the World: Alya from Ukraine

Hey everyone, and I hope you are as excited to read this post as I am to write it! I love adding on to the Everyday Fashion From Around the World segment on my blog, and today’s blogger is Alya, she calls herself a beautyholic 🙂

One fine day she discovered herself in the world of beauty on YouTube, and just couldn’t give it up.

She now has her own channel, where she posts videos about make-up, hair, outfits, etc.

She’s lived in the city of Dnepropetrovsk in Ukraine her own life. Today she is going to share with us what an ordinary Ukrainian Big City girl would wear on an ordinary day. Dnepropetrovsk girls like to look pretty, but they are not extremely concerned about what they wear. Alya is no different. She likes skinny jeans and loose tops, or skirts and heels. But let the pictures speak for themselves.
