What’s in my gym bag? – Beauty Brunch Link Up

whats-in-my-gym-bag

As promised #BeautyBrunch is now a weekly weekend Link Up! Today I wanted to talk about one of the biggest parts of my life and how it impacts my beauty routine – working out at the gym.

Since moving to Milwaukee and starting my job at Kohl’s I’ve been going to the gym at least 8 times a month. I go to the WAC which is a wonderful facility and has so many locations! I love it.  During the week I mostly do cardio like running on the treadmill, elliptical or stair master. On the weekends I take a strength class and do yoga. I have also recently started to use Kayla Itsine’s Bikiny Body Guides and these are the 28 minute workouts I do at home 2-3 days a week. I know this seems like a lot, but it’s much needed because I work in the office.

There are a few other things you should know about my workout routines. I always work out at night during the week, weekend workouts are the only morning ones due to class schedule. That will explain my product choices.

whats-in-my-gym-bag

Let’s start with hair care, because that’s the biggest part of my gym beauty routine. As you can see there are 2 sets of shampoo/conditioner. One is Clairol Shimmer Lights, aka the purple shampoo. I use it once a week to brighten up my balayage. I always think this product is going to stain my apartment shower, and use it only at the gym. If you have bleach blonde hair I highly recommend this set. I got it at Sally’s Beauty Supply a couple years ago, and since I only use it once a week, it’s lasted me a very long time. Do you have a favorite purple shampoo? Do tell, because I am always up for trying new things!

The other shampoo and conditioner set is OGX Biotin and Collagen series. It’s essentially the thickening series filled with high performance blend of powerful ProVitamin B7, collagen, and hydrolyzed wheat proteins. I love the smell of these products and how my hair feels after.

But a shampoo and conditioner duo are only as good as the leave-in treatments I use after. I have two as well. Once again my obsession with having two of almost everything is surfacing. Don’t worry, I also think it’s weird 😉

The first one that I use is Argan Oil of Morocco Creamy Hair Butter by OGX. The cool thing about this product is that it can be either left in or rinsed out. If you choose to rinse it out, then it acts like a mask. Otherwise you can use it as a leave in treatment, which I prefer to be completely honest. I feel like my hair has been extremely weakened by all the bleaching that’s why I like to use this as a leave in. This product contains argan oil, silk amino acids, soybean oil, coconut oil, and shea butter extract. Plus OGX is an extremely affordable brand.

When I choose to rinse out the OGX hair butter, I follow up with Nexxus Humectress Luxe Lightweight Conditioning Mist. I have written a very detailed blog post about this Nexxus series before, so if you are interested in reading it, you can check it out here. This product contains Vitamin E, Coconut Oil, and Honey Extract. Once again it aims to strengthen your hair and reduce breakage. I spray it on towel dry hair and comb through. Easy 🙂

Now that I am done walking you through my hair care, let’s talk about skin care. I use Exposed Skincare Microderm Scrub. I have to admit I use it as a face wash and feel like it gets the job done.

Next I apply Pevonia Power Repair Hydrating Toner. It’s a spray so no need to pack cotton rounds for the gym!

Lastly I use Brevena Restore and Hydrate Overnight Cream. This skincare line is made in Minnesota, and I have been using this moisturizer for a while now. Sometimes I use it as a day time cream. Breaking all the skincare rules over here, I know. This lotion contains Macro B Complex®, Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba Oil and Vitamins C and E.

Well there you have it, the contents of my gym bag 😉 What skincare products do you use? Would you be interested in a more detailed post about my workouts?

Happy New School Year to all the Gophers and everyone who started college classes today! Major FOMO over here, so major I can’t even, but the fact that I don’t have any more homework to do definitely helps 😉

Today I partnered up with Folica to share a few of my favorite college hairstyles and hair care tips.  There are two essential tools that I think ever girl needs in college: a straightener and a curling iron. I don’t know what I would’ve done without the two! Thanks to Folica I got to try two new styling tools: Solia Superhot Professional Titanium Flat Iron and 1″ Salon Curling Iron/Wand by Hot Tools.

3. Side cornrows. These are also a golden opportunity for creating glitter roots! Stay tuned for more on that soon! Back to school hair styles with Folica.com

4. High pony or half pony. The 90’s are back not only in fashion, but in beauty as well! My mom used to call this high pony a palm tree. So there you have it – a palm tree with you wherever you go, even though the summer is almost over! Back to school hair styles with Folica.com

When it comes to hair care, I follow two simple rules: choose what’s best for your hair and switch between brands often. That’s why I went with Grow Gorgeous Density Shampoo and Conditioner as well as Grow Gorgeous Density Shampoo and Conditioner set. When you have fine, color treated hair like mine, these two product lines make the most sense.

I hope you find what’s good for your hair, style it like never before, and have an amazing school year!

Beauty Brunch: What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

20140729-080117-28877844.jpg

What do you bring with you when you are on vacation? Do you pack all the necessary skincare, makeup and hair products? Or do you bring the bare minimum?

Road tripping is definitely different from air travel, I don’t have any restrictions on size and number of products, but I didn’t want to overpack! So here is everything I packed on my trip to Colorado.

20140729-074154-27714793.jpg

To be honest a few of the things were packed in hopes of finally using them up, which actually did happen with a couple of the products.

Do you think I overpacked or didn’t pack enough? What’s in your travel makeup bag?

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster Review

2014-05-05 22.33.26 2014-05-05 22.34.57 2014-05-05 22.36.42

Knowing me, you probably have already figured out that I can’t live without serums and different types of skin boosters. Anything that helps me improve my skin, is a must-have, must-try or at least a must-see. So when I received Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster from iFabbo, I was more than excited to try it out. Plus I was running out of the serum I’ve been using, and this one became a perfect substitute.

So what is Dermalogica skin hydrating booster? It’s a super hydrating fluid that intensely moisturizes thirsty skin as it smoothes and minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It’s water-based and non-greasy, plus contains Hyaluronic Acid, which holds 1000 times its weight in water for powerful hydration.

Other key ingredients include Panthenol, Glycolipids, and Algae Extract to help skin repair and restore moisture balance. There are no artificial colors and fragrances in Dermalogica products.

To use, I simply squeeze a little bit of product on my hand, and work into my skin. I only use it at night, before bed, and put my favorite night time moisturizer on top. You can mix this Skin Hydrating Booster with your favorite moisturizer to use during the day. But I always feel like my skin rests and restores at night. If I notice it becoming dry throughout the day, I will definitely start using this product in the AM as well.

The product is expensive, $56 for 1 oz. Though almost all high end serums with Hyaluronic Acid are in that price range, and that’s not surprising, because the product really works. After only a couple of times using it, I noticed my skin feeling softer, glowing, and firm. I am in absolute awe with this serum and what Dermalogica did once again – created another wonderful product to help us fight aging.

Pros:

– Perfect for my T-zoned skin and, from the other reviews I read, oily skin.

– Absorbs quickly.

– Hydrates and moisturizes.

– Doesn’t cause breakouts on my type of skin.

– Perfect addition to my night time beauty routine.

– Amazing ingredients.

Cons:

– Expensive! Ouch!

– Value/Money ratio seems too low. I have a feeling I am going to go through this 1 oz container of product in less than a month.

In the end of the day I love this stuff and the wonderful things it does for my skin. Have you tried the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster? What did you think? What serums (if any) do you use?

Happy Tuesday! I am off to another photo shoot today! Can’t wait to share an exciting new project and a local fashion artist with you soon!

New in my Makeup Bag: Boots Beauty Products

I have recently started using a few Boots beauty products! I am sure you’ve heard of Boots, they are a number one U.K beauty brand (est. 1935!) and are available at Target stores throughout the US. I have tried their loose powder before, and was extremely pleased. Plus all the products are hypo-allergenic and dermatologically tested, making them suitable for my super-sensitive skin. That’s why when this review chance came around, I knew I couldn’t resist.

BotanicsBeautyProducts

The products I received included:

Boots No7 Beautiful Brows Pencil in Brown – includes a unique wax combination for smooth application. It’s a great eyebrow pencil. I especially like the brush on the opposite end. I kind of wish it came with a sharpener too, I am on a search for one, so if you have a favorite sharpener for eyeliners, brow pencils, please let me know! For $6.99 it’s an acceptable brow pencil that will last you for a long time.

No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream for Dry/Very Dry skin – with the polar vortex making it’s way through Minnesota, I need as much moisturizer as I can get. I actually took this cream with me to New York, and used it both day and night. I love it. It’s supposed to help you reveal more healthy, radiant looking skin in 14 days. An SPF of 15, is also a great factor to consider. And while I wish the SPF factor was higher, this will do. The cream contains a unique blend of Vitamins E and C, as well as minerals, and for $13.99 it’s definitely worth the buck!

Boots Botanics Rebalance Rehydrating Body Butter – this is a product I am yet to try, but it’s time is coming soon! It’s free of parabens, mineral oils, waxes, SLS and SLES. Not tested on animals. Plus the packaging is made out of recycled materials. When I saw Shea butter, Coconut oil and Cocoa butter on the ingredients list, I knew this product and I were a match made in PR heaven!

Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Face Wipes – have become my saving grace! There are days when I am lazy, really lazy, like I don’t want to brush my teeth lazy! I talked to a few of my blogger friends, and turns out I am not the only one with the problem. Of course I’ve been trying hard to wash my face every night, but when I fail – these wipes are there to save the night!  They are also targeted to brighten skin, and are enriched with unique plant extracts and can remove even waterproof makeup.

Boots No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick – I wouldn’t be me, if I didn’t want another lipstick. My lipstick came in Raspberry and is a perfect shade for the winter! It is bold and makes you stand out, just how I like it. This lipstick is also enriched with vitamins, making my lips feeling smooth. It reminded me of Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick! Great texture, great color.

Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner – is a toner that I can’t wait to try, but it promises to gently cleanse, revitalize and nourish! I am a firm believer in toners! So once I use up my Clinique toner, it’s going to be this baby’s turn.

Victoria Jackson Foundation Duo Review

2013-11-24 12.08.29

I have recently received a Victoria Jackson foundation duo, and today I am excited to share my opinion with you.

I’ve never heard of Victoria Jackson brand before, and to be honest I was more interested in the product than the brand. I’ve always wanted to try a foundation duo, especially the kind that you had to apply with a sponge.

If you know me and my makeup habits, you have probably figured out by now that I absolutely love BB creams, CC creams, tinted moisturizers and such. But when I worked at Clinique, I was always curious about the City Base foundation. This Victoria Jackson product reminded me of it.

2013-11-24 12.10.52

I ordered the medium shade (there are 4 available – light, medium, tan and dark). The website description of this foundation is:

Two skin-perfecting shades can be used alone or blended together to exactly match your complexion. Victoria’s foundation is ideal because it gives you all the coverage you need without added layers. Also ideal for concealing problem areas such as under-eye circles.

Sounds pretty great, right? And it delivers. I enjoyed the smoothness of application, the way the shades blend together, adding a perfect touch of highlight and glow. The concealer part of it was definitely something that sold me on it! Especially under eyes. Wake up at 5.45 am every morning anyone?

PicMonkey Collage

PicMonkey Collage1

The foundation definitely covered up the redness, minor blemishes, evened out my skin tone.

But then I find myself wondering about how many germs are breeding on that sponge when not in use? And how it’s almost impossible to wash the sponge out… And unfortunately the foundation is not long lasting at all. I have combination oily skin and I feel like it just get’s absorbed into my pores and in 2 hours needs to be reapplied again. I also can’t help but wonder whether I should’ve gone with the lighter shade, because the medium seems to be too yellow for me. The price was also something that didn’t settle with me, it’s $29.95, and even though there are multiple discounts available, there are other tried and true foundations that are in the same price range, and last a lot longer. Would I buy this foundation again? No, I wouldn’t, but I am glad I tried it.

Have you ever tried Victoria Jackson products? What is your opinion?

Perlier Imperial Honey Body Butter Review

1391922_10153475103340604_2105413693_n

  • Formulated with the honey of black bees and royal jelly
  • Nourishes skin with moisture
  • Leaves skin pleasantly scented with the sensual notes of honey and oriental woods
  • Perfect for year-round use

6.7 oz of goodness.

6.7 oz of inedible goodness.

That’s the Perlier Imperial Body Butter for you!

But it smells just like the Greek Honey Yogurt from Kowalski’s!

I still can’t get over it, the smell!

2013-11-12 20.58.10 2013-11-12 20.58.30

2013-11-12 20.59.03

The product is beautifully and wonderfully done, the gold packaging speaks to my heart. The creamy thick texture speaks to my skin, going through a rough time (quiet literally). The moisturizing effect is amazing.

But the smell, I just want to get my spoon out and eat it! I really do!

You know I never rush to review a product, even if it was received for free, or in this case through iFabbo (who you should totally check out if you are a fashion/beauty blogger!) I want to make sure I try it out first, and not just once. I will admit that by the end of week 1 of using this I want to eat it less. But the urge is especially strong right when I open the jar.

I love the moisturizing effects, especially on my hands and feet and will definitely use this product. But it is not something that I would buy at a store. First of all the price is a little much for me $40 for the 6.7 oz, second the smell! It stops me! It really does and maybe by the time I reach the bottom of the jar I’ll be okay with it, this will always be the body butter that smelled like Greek Yogurt (which of course I now have a craving for)

So I am going grocery shopping at 10.30 pm, but I would love to hear your opinions, comments, etc.

Are you a member of any networks that send out free products? What do you think of the product I described above? And what body lotion would you recommend for the winter months?

Find Perlier on social media using these tags: @PerlierUSA #PerlierOnHSN

And as a courtesy to my readers iFabbo and Perlier offer a special discount on the HSN purchases, just enter iFabbo5 at the checkout to get $5 off.

Happy Hump Day! See you again tomorrow for Thrift Style Thursday!

My Perfect Red

2013-05-20 19.19.53 (1)

It’s a well known fact that red lipstick does wonders, it’s practically a miracle worker (well, that’s if you believe in miracles <— You can tell I just watched the latest Star Trek). It doesn’t only make your teeth appear whiter, but your nose smaller, it basically draws attention to your lips, away from all the other features (that’s only if you want it to) And even though there are people who are so very against it, all I have to say is suck it up and give it a shot!

Who is my perfect red then? This little guy by Faberlic – from the Premium Lipstick collection, #4295. I know that most of you States side are not familiar with this brand, but if you live in Europe, I am sure you heard about it. It’s very similar to Avon and Mary Kay! I was offered to try out some of their products a while back and this red lipstick was one of the items I picked out:

Bath and Body Works Forever Red Perfume Review / Обзор на парфюм Forever Red из Bath and Body Works

708261f3dc69122ef04638c178834f97

This is a review I wrote for one of my friends here on WordPress back in January, I am only publishing it now, hope this is a helpful review that will prevent you from buying another unnecessary product out there!

Mary from Budget Grad Student has recently asked me to review one of the products she received in her Influenster Cosmo Vox Box. Which I agreed to do! Unfortunately with all the holidays and somewhat hectic work schedule, I am only able to do it now. I actually think it’s better this way, because I’ve been using this fragrance for almost 2 weeks now.

Of course every girl loves perfume, but not all perfume is good. And even though “Bath & Body Works travels the world to find the latest trends and most beautiful scents. They never rest in their commitment to bring the world’s newest freshest fragrances for body, hand and home” I was a tad bit disappointed in the scent.

The sample came in a cute little 0.25 oz/7 ml bottle, which made it super portable and easy to carry around, which I did! Took it to work almost every day!

2012-12-29 20.06.32

To me the scent was very sweet and floral, turns out my nose wasn’t all that wrong! Here is the Overview you can find on the website:

Our most luxurious longest lasting fragrance blends opulent notes of fiery red pomegranate and delicate peche de vigne, a rare and fleeting French peach. Soft petals of red osmanthus give way to notes of addictive velvety marshmallow and a surprising finale of rich vanilla rum that leaves an unforgettable impression.

  • Top Notes: Fiery Pomegranate, Rare French Peach, Luminous Apple
  • Mid Notes: Red Peony, Night Marigold, Red Osmanthus
  • Dry Notes: Rich Vanilla Rum, Velvety Marshmallow, Oak Wood

Marshmallow! That explains it! Mary, you would’ve totally had a headache!

Now long lasting factor was something that I was looking forward to! Not a lot of fragrances last on me, but after trying this one, I have to say one thing:

I had fragrances from CVS pharmacy, that lasted longer!

And even though the scent decided to stay on me for only two hours or so, it did make it way into my head, and gave me a headache as well!

Then I discovered that the perfume itself cost $44.50 (of course it comes in a 2.5 oz bottle!), add a few more dollars and you can afford a really nice Lancome or Estee Lauder fragrance.

All in all it wasn’t very long lasting and too much Vistoria Secretish to me, I’d definitely think twice, even thrice before purchasing this scent! There is so much more one can do with 45 bucks!

Don’t forget to check out Mary’s blog and let me know if you’ve tried this fragrance!

Cheers,

Z

Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin Review

Goody is probably the go-to brand for me when it comes to bobby pins and hair ties (hair elastics, hair binders, whatever you want to call them 🙂 ) So when I received the Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin, I got really excited, because I hate it when there is a million bobby pins jabbing my scalp!

I have mentioned these pins before in a post dedicated to my Mad Men party outfit. But today it’s all about Goody!

Here is some info about the brand before we dive in: The Goody brand is the most widely-recognized manufacturer of hair accessories and styling tools in the world. Through proprietary brands such as DoubleWear™, QuikStyle™, Simple Styles™, Slide-Proof™ and Ouchless®, Goody has introduced smart innovations like the exclusive Spin Pin and Quik Style Brush. With products inspired by the latest designer trends and innovative solutions, Goody offers an inspiring range of hair accessories and styling tools.

Price range: $7.29 at Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreen’s, Kroger, Duane Reade (I actually think it’s more expensive at CVS than Walmart, and prices do vary zip code to zip code!)

The instructions are as follows:

So here we go! Here is what my hair looks like:

It’s rather fine, but should be long enough for a spin pin, right?

Eh…

You can definitely see one of the pins sticking out, which is so not cool!

Then I tried to do two buns, and well that was a pretty bad idea:

This product makes me think that I don’t have enough hair, it’s a serious hit on my self-esteem! Not cool Goody, not cool! Plus the above picture definitely shows that I need to use bobby pins to control the fly away!

I do appreciate Influenster and it’s complimentary services. There are definitely hits and misses in every box. So no hard feelings!

Have an awesome day everyone!
