Some of you were wondering whether I received a boat for my birthday last week, well not really 😉 The boat actually belongs to my father-in-law, and back in the day Sam and he spent a lot of time building it! And now sailing has become one of my favorite summer pass-times! And this time I made sure I packed my new Samsung Galaxy Camera I received from Verizon Wireless back in May!

When it came to picking out my sailing outfit, I went for one of my favorite DKNY dresses from Macy’s (yay for fitting into juniors size!), and my thrifted (Goodwill) white rim sunnies! I also braided my hair, because once you get out on St.Croix it gets really windy and the hair blows all over the place, in your face included!

I also wanted to share some scenic photos, enjoy and let me know what you think about sailing and any other kinds of on the water activities!

Another cool thing I was going to talk to you about is this new app I’ve been using called Mavatar. It’s an iPad app that let’s you shop and create wish boards, but at the same time applies coupons and any promotions going on in the store at the time! The creators of this app focus on higher end stores and brands (Nieman Marcus, Bloomington’s, Nordstrom) with a good mix of Macy’s, Gap, and Banana Republic in between! It’s especially nice to see Bloomingdales and Nieman’s featured on here, because they closed both of these stores in Minneapolis! (*SIGH*)

The “main” page of the app (every category breaks down into more when you tap it)

And this is where you can see how many coupons/discounts/promotions are available

And an example of a “Wishlist”!

So here you have it online shoppers – a great way to shop and save at the same time! Now that’s what I call smartshopping!

Let inspiration guide you today~

OOTD (No it’s not a couch AD)

This is the outfit I wore to our thrifting extravaganza with two other Minnesota bloggers – Megan and Lauren (make sure to check out their blogs!) Haul post is coming out tomorrow 🙂 Yay! I personally love hauls (posts, videos, pinterest boards!) you name it, I’ll look through it and most likely comment! And I suggest you do the same!

So what’s this outfit made of?

A thrifted $1.50 Banana Republic skirt

Cashmere Lord & Taylor top from a swap in NYC – so FREE!

Boots that I got from Sam a few years ago for Christmas!

My necklace came from a thrift store on the UWS (I hope it’s still there, it was on the corner of Columbus and W 83 rd, same block as Laila Rowe), so if you are there, go check it out!

And the tights came from Filene’s Basement!

And that’s it my lovelies, have a great Tuesday! We are having a 101 Dalmatians party at Day Care today, so I spent 2 hours last night painting these:

Cheers,

Z

Anna Karenina Collection at Banana Republic

Maybe it’s finally time to read the book, or at least watch the new movie?! Yes, I am Russian and I’ve never read Anna Karenina 🙂

Anyways I am so so excited for this collection to launch, mainly because of this hat:

This cape:

And the amount of lace they used to make the dresses:

What are you excited for today? Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Cheers!

Boutique GW

Here I am at Goodwill in Rosedale, going through the racks with skirts like a maniac, when I hear

– Oh that’s a size 6, that’s going to be too small.

So I start a conversation with this woman, find out that she is going to a party the next day and that skirt would’ve been perfect for the event. So blah-blah here, there and everywhere, the lady turns out to be Russian (and no, we didn’t become best friends on the spot 🙂 but we had a nice chat). I told her my Xanax pills story, she told me that one of her coworkers has a code word for Goodwill (not everyone is as comfortable telling the world that everything they buy is from a thrift store) – Boutique GW, hence the title!

Once again, if you are living in the Twin Cities area and want to go thrifting, shoot me a message! There is contact info in the “About Me” section, or there is always Twitter!

Now the fun part, the finds! I have released a teaser (haha I know I sound so official) on Istagram on Saturday, showing the tag to my newly thrifted Christian Dior skirt:

And here is the skirt itself:

It’s going to be perfect for fall/winter, since it’s so warm! Are you ready for price now? $2.99 It was 50% off, so $1.50! That’s my kind of price for Dior! Basically everything that you’ll see in today’s post was 50% off, so hold on tight to your chairs!

Anthropologie HWR brand cardigan, $2.50 originally $4.99

Another HWR top for $2.50 originally $4.99 (both pulled off the New Arrivals rack)

J.Crew dress size 2 $3.50 originally $6.99 I got it for a special event which I am going to keep a secret now, there will be a separate post dedicated to it!

And – SURPRISE – here is some crinoline:

I also got this Webster dress in XS (it was a limited collection for Target this past summer), only $3, originally $5.99 (I used my Choose to Reuse coupon book on this one! Thank you to Hennepin County for a great program) I rarely buy Target brands at thrift stores, unless they are limited collections 🙂

I got a couple more sweaters, this one is Isaac Mizrahi, $2.50, originally $4.99

A Club Room sweater in L  $2.50, originally $4.99 (It’s men’s I know, it’s too big for me, I know) but it’s a perfect oversized baggy sweater to cozy up in and if I ever want to – I can make Sam wear it!

Up next – Adrienne Vittadini dress in M, this was the most expensive purchase of all – $4.50, originally $8.99. Another perfect fall dress, and don’t you just love this zig-zag pattern? Plus it has this awesome exposed zipper! Ah – can’t wait to wear it!

I also got a few skirts! They were all $1.50! I would’ve gotten more, but decided not too. See I can control my thrifting addiction (yeah, right!)

This one is a Banana Republic, in size 4

This one is 100% silk Winter Silks (oh the irony) skirt in size 8 (look at me, I am all over with my sizes today!) I totally fell for the pattern, can you tell?

This one is a made in USA no brand, size 16 very light, very see through pleated skirt, which I bought

1. because I fell in love with the color

2. because I fell in love with the pleats

3. because I knew I could make it work!

So I am simply going to adjust the elastic in the waistband, wear a slip underneath and rock my skirt and boots look this fall!

I know that some of you are going to say “Little House on the Prairie” about this skirt, but it’s a brand new vintage (if vintage can be brand new 🙂 ) Susan Bristol in size 12. It reminded me of the traditional Russian scarves, can’t wait to style this piece for you!

And finally this turquoise necklace, that was $3.99

I hope you enjoyed this haul, please let me know what you liked the least and what you liked the most! I will be styling these pieces and blogging about it shortly!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Cheers,

Zhenya

PS. Some of the purchased items were stained, but I got all of the stains out! Let me know if you want a post on how to get rid of stains on thrifted clothes!

Outfit of the Yesterday

I was going to post these pics yesterday, but since I ABSOLUTELY had to share my pictures of some Hideous Hats, here it is – My Outfit of the Day, September, 25

Sam and I took a walk to the Lake of the Isles and Lake Calhoun, the pictures are from the latter!

The outfit breakdown (for those who really want to know 😉 )

Shoes – UO (probably the most expensive part of the outfit – something around $30)

Skirt – $4 – Steeple People

Purse $3 – Vintage, Steeple People

Belt and Scarf – Banana Republic – FREE (swapped 🙂 )

Shirt Banana Republic – FREE – freecycled in NYC

Jacket – Forever 21 (this jacket is 5 years old, I got it in Chicago, and it’s one of the brands that Forever 21 has since discontinued, I think it was around $15, but I am not sure)

Sunglasses – Steve Madden – from TJ Maxx – $8

Hope you had a great Sunday 🙂

ZhenyAH!

Keep your Fleece to Yourself!

Yes it’s 36 in Minneapolis today, high of 58, so this morning as Sam and I were walking – he was walking to work, I was walking to get some exercise in the AM, I spotted the terrible, terrible trend, that does exist everywhere in the US, some places more, some places less.

THE FLEECE!

As comfortable as it is (we all know the feeling of being wrapped in a blanket that wearing a fleece jacket gives us) I am going to call your senses to cutting the cord between you and that blanket looking jacket you might want to wear to work. Wearing fleece outside equals wearing your Snuggie to work! Get the idea?

Places to WEAR your fleece:

At home

At home

AT HOME

Or for a run, if you are a runner, but I know that pro-runners don’t wear fleece jackets, they are too cool for that North Face color burst, and would rather go for UA, Adidas, or whatever the latest trend for super-thin, super-warm, light-weight, reflector built-in type work out apparel!

When NOT to WEAR your fleece:

In all other occasions 🙂

Here is one of my nightmares brought to life:

Here are some affordable great looking alternatives!

Navy Wool Coat from TopShop for $160

A BB Dakota Dedrick Long Overcoat for $145

Wool Coat for $100 from Delia’s

This blue color is also one of the Fashion Trends of NYC Fashion Week this year!

For more ideas on fall/winter coats check In Style, Lucky, Allure, or any other fashion magazine. Besides, ladies of Minneapolis, there are plenty of shops downtown, which you need to check – Macy’s, Saks off 5th Outlet, Marshall’s, Banana Republic, Gap, Nieman Marcus, and finally Target, even they sell affordable and better looking than fleece types of coats!

Good luck!

Hoping and praying for warm weather tomorrow !
