Feel free to click on the month to be taken to the original post!

I do have to come clean, I didn’t have any outfits for January and February, so I substituted them with a couple outfits from March and April :)

Outfit of the Day: Dashing through the Snow

Last Saturday our family had an early Christmas celebration, opening presents, a great dinner, taking family photos by the tree after too many glasses of champagne… The whole 9 yards!

I also got Sam to take a few shots of me, and give or take, my husband is a great photographer! So here we go, my outfit of the day!

Scarf

Run

Boots: Corso Como $6 – Steeple People

Dress: Anthropologie – $15 – Clothes Mentor

Scarf: Thirfted back in my NYC days

Cardigan: Mossimo $7

So here you have it, my very inexpensive, but fun Christmas outfit! Thrifting will never be  substituted by shopping in my world!

Happy Monday!

Boutique GW

Here I am at Goodwill in Rosedale, going through the racks with skirts like a maniac, when I hear

- Oh that’s a size 6, that’s going to be too small.

So I start a conversation with this woman, find out that she is going to a party the next day and that skirt would’ve been perfect for the event. So blah-blah here, there and everywhere, the lady turns out to be Russian (and no, we didn’t become best friends on the spot :) but we had a nice chat). I told her my Xanax pills story, she told me that one of her coworkers has a code word for Goodwill (not everyone is as comfortable telling the world that everything they buy is from a thrift store) – Boutique GW, hence the title!

Once again, if you are living in the Twin Cities area and want to go thrifting, shoot me a message! There is contact info in the “About Me” section, or there is always Twitter!

Now the fun part, the finds! I have released a teaser (haha I know I sound so official) on Istagram on Saturday, showing the tag to my newly thrifted Christian Dior skirt:

And here is the skirt itself:

It’s going to be perfect for fall/winter, since it’s so warm! Are you ready for price now? $2.99 It was 50% off, so $1.50! That’s my kind of price for Dior! Basically everything that you’ll see in today’s post was 50% off, so hold on tight to your chairs!

Anthropologie HWR brand cardigan, $2.50 originally $4.99

Another HWR top for $2.50 originally $4.99 (both pulled off the New Arrivals rack)

J.Crew dress size 2 $3.50 originally $6.99 I got it for a special event which I am going to keep a secret now, there will be a separate post dedicated to it!

And – SURPRISE – here is some crinoline:

I also got this Webster dress in XS (it was a limited collection for Target this past summer), only $3, originally $5.99 (I used my Choose to Reuse coupon book on this one! Thank you to Hennepin County for a great program) I rarely buy Target brands at thrift stores, unless they are limited collections :)

I got a couple more sweaters, this one is Isaac Mizrahi, $2.50, originally $4.99

A Club Room sweater in L  $2.50, originally $4.99 (It’s men’s I know, it’s too big for me, I know) but it’s a perfect oversized baggy sweater to cozy up in and if I ever want to – I can make Sam wear it!

Up next - Adrienne Vittadini dress in M, this was the most expensive purchase of all – $4.50, originally $8.99. Another perfect fall dress, and don’t you just love this zig-zag pattern? Plus it has this awesome exposed zipper! Ah – can’t wait to wear it!

I also got a few skirts! They were all $1.50! I would’ve gotten more, but decided not too. See I can control my thrifting addiction (yeah, right!)

This one is a Banana Republic, in size 4

This one is 100% silk Winter Silks (oh the irony) skirt in size 8 (look at me, I am all over with my sizes today!) I totally fell for the pattern, can you tell?

This one is a made in USA no brand, size 16 very light, very see through pleated skirt, which I bought

1. because I fell in love with the color

2. because I fell in love with the pleats

3. because I knew I could make it work!

So I am simply going to adjust the elastic in the waistband, wear a slip underneath and rock my skirt and boots look this fall!

I know that some of you are going to say “Little House on the Prairie” about this skirt, but it’s a brand new vintage (if vintage can be brand new :) ) Susan Bristol in size 12. It reminded me of the traditional Russian scarves, can’t wait to style this piece for you!

And finally this turquoise necklace, that was $3.99

I hope you enjoyed this haul, please let me know what you liked the least and what you liked the most! I will be styling these pieces and blogging about it shortly!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Cheers,

Zhenya

PS. Some of the purchased items were stained, but I got all of the stains out! Let me know if you want a post on how to get rid of stains on thrifted clothes!

I’ll take Silk over Cotton Any Day

Another day, another day off in pictures!

It started with me trying to organize this mess:

Which I think I tackled pretty well.

Then I met up with one of my girlfriends for an afternoon of pastries, coffee and consignment shopping!

My OOTD

And a close up of my skirt!

Remember what Diane Von Furstenburg used to say:

Be a woman, wear a dress!

My lunch (we actually split each one of those pastries in half :) )

My new car NOT

My J.Jill $12 jacket:

Masha and I also ran across some interesting looking pants while at Fashion Avenue on 50th and France:

So what it’s going to be? Parrots? Dolphins? Dachshund? Or flowers?

When I came home, I made this recipe

It’s super easy and really tasty, and it’s okay to stray away from the ingredients list every once in a while, I didn’t have any fresh rosemary, but it turned out just fine! Also if you’ve ever been to Russia and tasted the Country Style Potatoes at McDonald’s there – those are even better! Seriously!

And for dessert, I had an Ugly ;)

It’s a giant meringue pastry from Patisserie 46 in South Minneapolis, tastes divine and costs only $1! Yes, I got myself 2 :) Plus the nuts used in this are walnuts, which makes it even better!

How was your day? And what do you think of the dress and the blazer? Please do share!

Dress Obsessed: Clothes Mentor Haul

I went thrifting, AGAIN. Okay not really thrifting, but consignment shopping :) Big difference, really.

Please let me know if you are getting tired of these posts, but I personally love when other people post hauls, maybe because I get a sneak peek into their closets this way.

I did spend quiet a lot of money, but I had a gift card to that particular location of my beloved Clothes Mentor. And here are some of the treasures I found this time:

1. Ralph Lauren shorts and Jones New York cardigan – so prep school - $9.60 for both of these, as they were 70% off

Now for the more expensive stuff (I know, I know you are probably sitting there shaking your head at me, wondering whatever happened to $3 finds at Salvation Army or Goodwill, I promise to bring you hauls from there as well)

2. $20 Anna Sui dress

This baby looks a lot better belted, I am sure she had that in mind when creating this dress, or I just like to accentuate my waist line too much :)

3. 100% silk dress and slip from Anthropologie, which for once is not attached to the shell! Yay! Because (guess what?) I can wear that slip separately with some other clothes! So this one cost me $24, but with some boots, OMG I can’t wait to wear it!

4. Another Anthropologie dress (size 0 – gasp, all the working out is paying off), this time with geometric pattern, and of course pockets (that’s one of my must-haves in a dress) – and this was also $24

5. And finally a $15 Anthropologie (yes, surprise surprise – but in all honesty, I think a richer version of me just consigned all those – if you are reading this post, please leave me a comment and let me know if you have any more cool Anthro stuff, I’ll buy it directly from you! I am 100% serious)  dress, which is made of a heavier thicker material, so it’ll definitely be my fall/winter dress, with exposed zipper, which unfortunately you can’t really see :) But it’s awesome nevertheless!

Now you gotta comment and tell me which one of these you like the best and which ones are a total fail :)

Also, if you are waiting for the “Stories From My Closet” I am going to make you wait a couple more days. I decided to add a Sunday Post to my blog, that way you have something to read with your morning coffee :)

Love you all, thanks for reading and looking and checking it all out and commenting!

Anthropologie Arrangement

Since I am going to be at 50th and France tomorrow, I might as well pop into Anthropologie, and check some things out, hopefully even buy something. But knowing me, I’ve already checked everything out in the catalogue (both physical and on-line), and I created this board of fun Anthropologie stuff. Call me crazy, but I think this pharaoh one piece swimsuit is something I would totally wear!

 xoxo,

stay warm if you are in Minneapolis!

Crochet Jewelry

As most of you know I go to “Knitting” every Wednesday, well I have kinda been slacking for the past few weeks, but I am getting back on track with my projects. And even though I’ve been having a hard time figuring out what I want to work on next, I decided to settle on crochet jewelry. WHAT?! I know, it’s fun, easy and fast to make, and if some of you remember I made a couple necklaces last spring (check them out here and here). It’s also important to remember that crochet jewelry includes beads, ribbons, chains, and other fun stuff, it’s a symbiosis of jewelry! Oh yeah!

So to give you a feel of what crochet jewelry is all about, here are some inspirational images ;)

I bet you can’t wait what I am going to come up with!

Put Those Sleeves to good Use!

Yesterday I made a top out of a T-shirt. Remember? Well guess what, I still had the sleeves left. So I decided to put them to good use! And what better use can there be than to make some fabric flowers!

Now there are plenty of web-sites, blogs and photos on the Internet that teach you how to make those. So I basically found one, and followed the instructions!

1. First, I cut out fabric circles, you can do it by tracing a bottom of a cup, or wing it. I made about 20 circles of 2 different sizes. (I am really sorry I forgot to take the pictures :( )

2. Then you fold the circles in half and sew them together. You only need to make a few stitches.

3. For the smaller flower, I also cut along the circle to give it a “Chrysanthemum” look.

PS. Check out these brands that also make such types of flowers!
