Perfect Summer Accessories with Uncommon Goods

uncommon goods jewelry

Summer is so so close, I can almost feel, taste and smell it! And taking my summer clothes out is probably my absolute favorite part of the year. Nothing can stop me from changing out of my sweatshirts and  cardigans into dresses and rompers! Not even the finals coming up! However, summer clothes aren’t the only thing, accessories, especially jewelry are definitely at the top of my priority wardrobe needs. Having packed most of my things away (by accident or in a packing frenzy that come and go), I discovered myself with only a couple pieces to wear, one of them being my FitBit. I quickly decided that it won’t do. So when Uncommon Goods reached out to do another collaboration, I was more than happy to pick out some new summer accessories.

I chose two pieces by the same designer, Nancy Nelson. One of the pieces is a Love Birch Cuff that I’ve been eyeing for almost 2 years now, ever since I learned about Uncommon Goods. And the other one is a Bee Love Necklace. See there is a romantic side to me, you just didn’t know about it 😉 It’s not blue lipstick and beanies every day after all!

If you’ve never heard of Uncommon Goods, they are a company out of Brooklyn, New York. UncommonGoods endeavors to feature unique jewelry, designer décor, tabletop items and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment without harm to animals or people. All of their operations are run out of the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, they pride themselves in paying their lowest-paid seasonal worker 50% or more above the minimum wage. Uncommon Goods support and provide a platform for artists and designers, half of what they sell is made by hand. Most of the jewelry products, home décor and table top items are created right here in the USA, and about one-third of the entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. Now you see why I love them?

One last thing, if you are looking for a unique Mother’s Day gift, look no further! They offer a great selection for under $50!

Top 9 Prom Dresses + Macy’s Prom Fashion Show at MOA

Screen Shot 2016-03-01 at 5.30.54 PM

Got plans for Saturday? I don’t know about you, but I want to make sure I make it to the Macy’s Prom Fashion Show at the Mall of America on Saturday at 2 pm.

I have attended those shows in the past, and even though I am way over prom age, there are always amazing pieces, both accessories, dresses and shoes, that I can wear to weddings or other events.

I have already started thinking about a dress I want to wear for my graduation from the U. Underneath my gown you know 😉

I have also put together a collage of top 9 prom dresses from Macys.com, enjoy!

My Last Name

yellow-dress-chambray-shirt

Having been married for almost 3 years now, it surprises me how I am so used to my last name now. When I was little my mother always told me: “Don’t change your last name when you get married”. I guess she was afraid I’d end up with some ridiculous Russian last name. But having been in the States for 2 years with my maiden name, which was Demidova by the way, and having had to spell it to anyone and everyone, I knew that when I was going to marry Sam, I’d take his last name. Of course then he was making fun of me too, because he thought the whole name would sound ridiculous. If you are at all familiar with Russian names, you may know that we have a patronymic name, our dads name embedded into our own, and Zhenya (Evgenia) Igorevna Hutson just made Sam laugh. The truth of the story is though, I wanted to get rid of my patronymic name as well. So here I am Zhenya Hutson, loving it and loving my new (-ish) last name. In fact, I even had O’necklace make me a personalized last name necklace. So now, the world knows. And when I go to the U, just call me Hutson.

Accessories, Shoes, Home Decor

Sundays are perfect! They are laid back, they are relaxed, they are mine! Sundays are great for planning, for inspiration. Since moving into our new home, we’ve been trying to decorate it and set it up just the way we like it. And so far, only the living room has been coming along. Of course setting up a home takes time, and a lot of patience, but I have been really focusing on the upstairs story and half space, that is also my office/writing space. Would you like to see my wish board?

MakerWear On

Disclosure: The hats shown in the following post were provided for my honest review, the opinions and styling suggestions shared below are my own.

After coming back from New York, I didn’t only change as a person, my style changed as well. It became more laid back, more relaxed, more hip.

So when an opportunity to style MakerWear hats came along, I gladly agreed. MakerWear is all about artists. Only the best designs get made – “curated crowd sourcing” – is what takes place when they want to bring new fashion to market.

Having trouble accessorizing lately, I am also stepping out of my comfort zone and trying on new pieces with this style challenge.

Put a Bird on It Maker: J.J Spectre

A design nerd, type lover, and unicorn. Enjoys déjà vu and long walks on the moon. Dreams in color.

Moshi Moshi Maker: Gian Ogreant

Indonesian artist, designer and photographer who finds inspiration in vintage retro and ogres.

Bacon Tail Maker: Deedee Lazuardi

A screen printer and skateboarder so punk, he wouldn’t even tell us if he actually likes bacon.

I am definitely happy with the quality of the hats. I especially like the Moshi Moshi, it is by far my favorite! I really thought I’d like Put a Bird on It more, but the vizor is too wide for me. I wish I could get away with keeping it flat, but I will have to bend it. And of course Sam thinks I am in a gang now 😉

What did you think of my pics? Which designs would you pick?

Goodwill Outlet Crazy Experience and Finds!

After having read blog posts and seen numerous pictures from Goodwill Outlet from one of my favorite vintage style bloggers Sammy Davis, I finally found some time to make it to a Goodwill Outlet here in Minnesota, in St. Paul to be more precise. The store is located right off of 280 and University Ave. And I was by no means prepared to what I saw. It’s basically a giant wear house, with tons and tons of stuff. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here is one for you:

In case you didn’t know here is how Goodwill Outlet works:

1. Your cart is always supposed to be against the wall.

2. Every now and then the staff does cart checks, and if you are not by your cart, they’ll dump it all out!

3. You are not allowed to touch anything while the staff is unloading boxes.

4. Bring your own bags.

5. All items are priced based on weight.

6. Have FUN!

So I grabbed a cart, put some tobramycin in my eyes and went digging 🙂 I spent about 2 hours at the outlet, going through it all, and in the end, after having paid a little under $11, I came home with all this:

1. Some accessories:

2 Pairs of Shoes

3. A couple items to refashion – the ideas are brewing in my head as I type 🙂

4. Some vintage tops:

5. And some every day clothes 🙂

Let me know which of the pieces you liked the most! And follow my blog to see how I style these finds in the nearest couple of weeks!

Shopping at Forever 21 after 21!

Yesterday while getting Sam’s watch adjusted at Rosedale Mall, I snuck a peek at the Forever 21 windows. I haven’t shopped there in ages and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of looks appealing to me, a 25 year old cynical fashion blogger, who shops for brands at thrift stores. So today I went on their website and picked out a few things that I consider age appropriate and flattering for myself and other 25 year olds like me! Enjoy!

Dolman Tribal Dress $19.80

 Floral Shirtdress $27.80

 Longline jacket $29.80

 Teardrop Bead Necklace $ 6.80

 Ikat Print Tote $ 19.80

Lace Up Wedge Booties $ 32.80

Have you also noticed the same number over and over again after the decimal? .80? What’s up with that? Taking a break from the good old .99 I see, Forever 21? Anyways I thought these items were exceptionally cute, and who knows I might just pop into a Forever 21 one of these days!

xoxo,

Z

PS. All pictures and prices were taken from the Forever 21 website
