Full skirts and fuzzy socks

Monday. I have a story for you. After spending about an hour and a half studying at Wilson library and talking to my mom and uncle on Skype, I started packing up my stuff to go to my Psych lecture. And I put my notebook in my laptop case. It took me a minute to realize what I’ve done!

Even though I have a lot going on this week, I’m excited to tackle it all down.

Today’s look is not on me, it’s on the floor, and it would’ve been perfect for tomorrow because it’s all grey, but I had several guys hold the doors open for me, so I did something right with this look!

Also, Mason says hi! Look who is the king of the castle now ūüėČ

PS. It was a rainy day today and just like thousands of other girls at the University of Minnesota I put mine on over my fuzzy socks. If I am wearing rubber on my feet, I might as well be comfy cozy!

Blue – the most human color + #ThriftStyleThursday

Blue is one of my favorite colors, always have been, especially the beautiful lapis, like the sweater that you see in the photos. I almost wore blue shoes today too, but went with my gut and these Frye boots instead. You know how some people wear flip flops year round? I wear my Frye boots! I only have two pairs so far, but I am sure I will be expanding my collection soon.

Yesterday I shared my love for the Avett Brothers, today I can’t help but mention one other favorite artist of mine – Regina Spektor. Her song Blue Lips¬†is where I stole the title for todays post from. But my new favorite song of hers is I cut Off My Hair! You have to listen to the lyrics, they are hilarious. I used to live in Manhattan, and she sings about it, so it brings back the memories, the good times and makes me want to go back!

Some of my other favorite things that start with B are bears, beets and Battlestar Galactica (I am 100% serious!)

This post for #AtoZChallenge ties in so nicely with our #ThriftStyleThursday theme. Today’s post is supposed to be inspired by nature. And once again, the sky has always been one of my main sources of inspiration. It’s not the limit, but it’s a great way to forget about your everyday life and kind of dissolve in it. That’s why I really cherish my mornings now when I let out Mason, and I sit on the back deck, drink my coffee or tea, and start the new day!

Azura, Avett Brothers T-shirt and Accessories

2015-04-01 15.45.32

Three things that begin with A! Three things that I managed to wear today!

I have recently gotten some new rash guards at the boutique where I work. You know why? They are perfect for working out, running, and all, and they have a built in SPF! Call me crazy but I wore one to class today. I love the bright colors of this Azura top and the geometric pattern. It looked amazing over my Avett Brothers T-shirt and my distressed boyfriend jeans. It was really windy in Minneapolis today, and at some point I thought the wind will pick me up and drop me off at OZ! I also have a ton of little tiny gravel rocks in my hair, and there was one in my eyebrow! Go figure!

Last year I participated in an awesome A to Z challenge, and as far as I remember, I never completed it. I want to try it again this year, and my theme is going to be 30 days of outfits. I am going to share a new outfit a day, there won’t be any particular theme, but the outfits are going to somehow start with the letters of the alphabet and go in that order for the whole month of April! I am also going to post outfit photos on Instagram for those 30 days with a special hashtag #30daysofoutfits. I am pretty sure I have enough pairs of shoes to last me through the 30 days, but if I don’t, shoes are the only items that will be repeated. I am hoping to revive some of the forgotten pieces from my closet, and bring up my style game!

Monday Wants though, skirts! And lace! And can’t forget about bright summer shoes (the snowy Minnesota weather outside my window is mocking me silently!)

P is for Pants {A-Z Challenge}

Pants have definitely¬†become a staple piece in almost everyone’s wardrobe. Including mine. I will admit, I am a huge fan of jeans, and pants for me are more of an effort or a special occasion/job interview apparel for me. But everyone sees them differently.

pants-collection pants-trends-2014

Due to the nature of my work, you can sometimes hear me say – Pull up your pants! Put your pants on! Keep your pants on! It’s a lot of fun being an early childhood ed teacher. Such item like pants, often don’t make sense to kids. They hate them. All they want to do is trade jeans in for sweats, or better yet pajamas. At least in my class. Girls are known for leggings and tutus combos, or just leggings and shirt… This is when I came to realize that we are not that much different from kids. At least I am not.

I live for next pajama day, when I can wear my sweats or yoga pants to school.

I love distressed denim just like the kids like sticking their fingers in it and distressing it even more.

Anything that prevents me from sitting criss-cross apple sauce at circle time should be immediately removed from my wardrobe.

Pockets are a sign of status. Discovering and actually utilizing those pockets is a sign of being almost ready for preschool.

Nothing is wrong with going commando.

Forgetting an extra pair of pants is not a big deal. The lost and found bin is always runneth over.

You can never have too many pairs of pants.

Always bring an extra pair, or two, no better yet – THREE!

Kids and pants are a funny subject, I hope you enjoyed my observations as much as you enjoyed the collections I created.

Do you have a favorite pair of pants? Do you prefer jeans to pants, or pants to jeans? Do tell!

O is for Overalls {A-Z Challenge}

overalls-collection shopping for overalls

How could I not post about overalls? The more important question here though is – How do I still not own a pair? I don’t know. I am trying and looking and hoping to find an awesome pair at a thrift store. But, alas, nothing so far. Only my Mavatar collections, which you can check out here:

N is for Necklace {A-Z Challenge}

spring-summer-necklaces statement-necklaces There is nothing like a necklace to make an outfit stand out. And if you ask me, that’s my favorite piece of jewelry! I have so many different ones in my collection! But after creating these necklace boards, I got really inspired to go back to DIYs and make my own. How is this one for inspiration? DIY-necklace-inspiration I can’t wait to show you the final result. I am also starting fashion illustration, and if you want me to draw you or one of your favorite outfits from the blog, leave me a comment below! Happy Friday!

M is for Muumuu {A-Z Challenge}

muumuu

One of my favorite wardrobe stylists Eric Daman was known for wearing Muumuus in college. That’s how everyone knew who he was. Of course now everyone knows who he is thanks to the shows like Gossip Girl and Carrie’s Diaries. To me Eric is an inspiration and a reminder never to be afraid to wear something that makes me feel good, and helps me stand out. Hence, this muumuu inspired collection! I am off today, so I think I’ll spend some time reconnecting with the vintage pieces in my wardrobe! How are you spending your Friday?

K is for Kimonos and Kaftans {A-Z Challenge}

kimono-inspired Kimonos-Kaftans

I am a little behind on my A to Z challenge, but here is letter K post. I am really excited about it, because I made it all about kimonos and kaftans (caftans). I know a few brave people who have actually worn those in real life, and looked amazing! I am hoping to be able to pull one off sometime this summer. But don’t you just love oriental inspired clothing?

I is for Indie {A-Z Challenge}

 indie-chic indie-style indie-boho-look boho-chic

indie-style-look-collection indie-style-shop

I is for Indie, and indie is trendy. I learned that back in 2006, and haven’t forgotten it since. Indie to me means a symbiosis of styles, pieces, and eras. Indie to me is taking time to make (sew, knit, crochet, embroider, …) my own clothes. Indie to me is thrifting and looking for inspiration in the vintage pieces I find.

Indie to me is wearing cowboy boots to work, and being proud of it! What does indie mean to you?
