Now we all know that belts are one of those universal accessories, that go with basically everything – dresses, skirts, jeans, pants, coats… I can go on with the list. There are also several categories of belts. One of the categories being sashes! Today I am going to draw your attention to sash’ pins and buckles.
Back when I went to Minnesota State Fair, I noticed these vintage sash pins.
Not knowing a whole lot about them, I sort of took the picture with a thought – “Oh, it’s vintage, must be cool!”.
And somehow it all came to me today. Not that I have nothing more to blog about, but I found an amazing modern twist to these great buckles.
But a little bit of history first:
Sash pins were worn in the late Victorian and Edwardian time periods, from the 1890′s through the teens. And this is what they looked like in outfits:
Sash pins/buckles changed and transformed over the ages. Here are some from different decades of the 20th century!

Here is an example of an Art Deco sash pin circa 1920s:

The last one is going to be another buckle from 1960′s. Don’t you just love it? It’s pink and plastic. The two Ps every girl in the 60s would die for
Back when I was looking at wedding dresses, I finally decided on one that came with a decorated sash. When the dress finally came, there was not one, but two sashes. And I thought that it would be such a fabulous idea to decorate the sash with a vintage sash pin! Like this:
I think this is a great way not to only dress-up any outfit, but also give it a unique twist, that will be eye catching and unexpected!
Hope you had a fab weekend!
Xo,
