Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara Review

Winter is a perfect season for beauty reviews, because I don’t have to go outside and take outfit photos. I recently received new Velvet Noir mascara by Marc Jacobs Beauty, thus the review. I feel like mascara is a product you don’t need to test out for weeks to know if you like it or not. Of course there is the aspect of what happens to the formula over time and whether it’s going to be as easy to apply as it is now, or if it’s going to thicken, but I am going to ignore this aspect altogether today.

Something interesting I learned about the Velvet Noir mascara is that it was inspired by Marc Jacobs’s first beauty memory of his mother carefully shaving fibers from a velvet ribbon to create her own couture faux lashes. 2016-01-02 14.53.47

The mascara is thick in consistency, glides on extremely well, brush is shaped unlike any other mascara I’ve used, and is overall a pleasure to apply. It is also formulated without Paragons, Sulfates and Phthalates. Yes, it is pricey $26.00 but you get a lot of product for the buck. I am still trying to get used to the product and its application. I definitely recommend it for the volume, but not so much for length. Also be careful with how much you apply, because the lashes can end up looking clumpy.

  1. I love the look of the bottle and it looks so pretty on you! I just recently got Marc Jacobs concealer and am obsessed, so I want to explore more Marc Jacobs products!

  2. So funny, I literally just got a sample of this stuff from sephora and was wondering about it and that weird applicator brush. I have super duper fine eyelashes so they usually like to stick together. Hopefully that doesn’t happen 🙂
