Fall Smells Like Vintage

A few weeks ago we shot some amazing pieces for Alacloth’s ASOS and ETSY stores. She is by far my favorite vintage seller of all, and I can always rely on her to find me something specific.

Having read this recent interview with Bill Cunningham, I started thinking about blogging and fashion industry as a whole. And while I still want to pursue a career as a buyer, I think it’s time to make this blog more unique and more me. Kind of that weird quirky style I used to have. I was so inspired that I even filmed a refashion video for you!

I had my first group presentation and my first midterm this week, and that’s why there will be way less posts on here, and way more pictures on Instagram, but I am very excited about Adam Lippes for Target collaboration that’s coming up at the end of the week, so I think I’ll feature that, and go spend my hard-earned college student dollars on more buffalo plaid!

Meanwhile I am also on a hunt for a garment steamer. I heard there is one at Goodwill by my house 😉

Vintage State of Mind

As you know I’ve done shoots for Alacloth (a vintage Etsy store run by my friend Ann) a few times, and every time I see the photos, I always wonder to myself – why don’t I wear more vintage? But the thing is I tend to only like the items my friend Ania picks out, but when we shoot all I want to do is take home half of the clothes. And I would if closet space wasn’t an issue. A girl can dream, right?

Today I went to my friend Melanie’s house and her upstairs, which is a lot similar to ours is her closet. All of it! If you’ve been to my house you can imagine what I am talking about.

So I am hoping to be able to clean and organize my upstairs, start and finish a couple DIY projects, organize and replace some living room furniture and have an updated decor post for you. Meanwhile, here are my favorite vintage pieces at the moment.

Sometimes I think I was clearly born in a wrong era, but then I like my internet too much, because how else would I share these awesome jeans with you that I got from Alacloth Vintage and that I shared last week in this post.

I also absolutely have to show off my new Diesel boots. That moss green just got me, I think it’s the perfect color for the Minnesota winter photoshoots, and definitely different from the typical black/brown boots that I wear.

The sweater and the scarf are both from H&M, and yes this is more of a neck warmer than a scarf, but man is it warm!

And of course my Tess + Tricia necklace that I got for Christmas! What was your favorite or most memorable gift this year?

Have a great Monday everyone!

Vintage Lookbook with Alacloth and Eric Sorensen Photography

Yesterday I had the most amazing opportunity and time of my life to shoot a few vintage looks for my friend Ania (Ann) of Alacloth vintage with a local photographer Eric of Eric Sorensen Photography. I met her through a friend, and was always fascinated by her commitment to finding and selling the highest quality vintage items she could find. And of course her Russian roots. We shot in the rain (yes, it rained here on December 22! Go figure Minnesota weather!) by the tracks on Hiawatha in Minneapolis, and had so much fun!

One of the train yard workers asked us what we were doing, so we had to explain the situation, and then offered to take his picture as well. He said he was going to think about it :)

Since it was a pretty public place we also had a guy drive by, honk and blow kisses. All in all it was an eventful Monday photo-shoot and I am so excited to be sharing it with you!

Light Metallic

My friend Jameson of Lessons with Coffee is having a garage sale this weekend. It’s absolutely amazing! shopped it last night and had a blast. Honestly this post wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for that garage sale.

I bought the metallic Ann Taylor skirt, and the vintage pink top I am wearing in the first look there (among other things  of course!)

I’ve also noticed the tendency to post two looks on Thrift Style Thursdays. It might be a coincidence, but let me know if you like it, and I’ll keep styling one item in different ways.

Also, exciting news Thrift Style Thursday now has it’s own Facebook page! So join in!

Happy weekend early everyone! I am off to Colorado tomorrow! Yay road trip!

Vintage Navy

I am wearing: Vintage navy dress – VintageSwank, Sperry’s Top Siders – TJ Maxx, Neon yellow belt – Target, Bulky chain necklace – thrifted

A vintage item often tells its’ own story. You don’t make the outfit. The outfit makes you. We were talking about what fashion means to us yesterday with some girlfriends on Twitter, and to me,

Fashion is self-expression in its’ truest form

But it’s a little different when it comes to when I wear vintage. These items have a story to tell, these items lived before me, and some of them were made long before I was born. And that’s why I respect vintage, cherish and treasure them.

This navy dress is structured, and feels more like a suit when I wear it. But it made me feel real, feminine and unique.

I am so so happy it’s Friday! I had a 3 day work week, but, man, am I exhausted! I hope you all spend time with your family and get a chance to relax! Stop by tomorrow to join the weekly wear link up and see my Monday-Friday outfits!

Weekly Wear {May 17}

Another week has come and gone, and this was a tough one. Sam’s grandma passed away, and even though we all know and feel that she is in a much much better place, and what’s more important, with the one she loved her whole life, Bob, it’s still hard oh the family.

I had a very hard time at work. The last two days have been from hell. I don’t know if it’s something in the water, but I am starting to lose my patience, and the best parts of my days are spent in bed or on the couch. I haven’t really worked out in days! And that’s not typically me.

I also went back to juicing. Mainly to go through all the vegetables in the fridge, so now almost all my recipes include carrots or celery. But once I am through with them, I’ll go back to Costco for more exciting combos.

Summer is looking more exciting than I expected. We are starting it off by getting new siding for our house (it still has the original 1950’s wooden tile) during Memorial Day weekend. Then we are road tripping to Milwaukee for a fun and exciting Midwest Bloggers event called Blogger Bazaar! And another road trip to my friend’s wedding in Colorado in July, we’ll be staying and hiking there for about a week afterwards. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a Chicago trip in August! And grateful for Sam who is on board with me when it comes to all these trips.

And tomorrow we get to go somewhere new and exciting for our family! So keep and eye on my Instagram. If you follow me on Twitter, you know what it is! But since it’s not my news to tell, I am going to stop, wish you all a great Saturday and invite you to link up your outfit posts!

In search of the evening light last night, I came to realize, that blogging for me has become a self-expression, a form of finding myself. I am going through a vintage stage again. And I think this time around it’s here to stay for a little while longer.

This dress is everything. It’s flirty, fun, chic, boho, cute, quirky. I had to have it. I had to wear it. And then the cowboy boots, that Midwest mark, even though I bought them in New York. And the city of Milan printed tights. And that purple Ted Baker bag that was the very first giveaway that I won. A lot of my clothes tell a story. What story do your clothes tell about you?

Vintage Teal

Nothing like a vintage dress to make any outfit THE OUTFIT. This silk Liz Claiborne dress was made to be worn today. From the gold button detailing on the back, to the just below the knee length, I am in love. Vintage always makes a statement. I wore it on Mother’s Day last Sunday, celebrating with my husband’s family. Haven’t seen my mom in almost 3 years, these holidays are always bittersweet for me. Oh life of an immigrant.

Vintage Green

vintage-dress how-to-style-vintage alexander-wang-style vintage-look vintage-green

My friends from Vintage Swank/American Fashion Fox were kind enough to send me a few of their pieces to style. And this green striped shirt dress is the first one I am going to share with you today. I wore it Alexander Wang style with my high waisted jeans, and cut out boots. It’s definitely one of the best vintage pieces I own.

A little about these online stores though – all items they sell are highly curated by the buyers for the best of the best.

American Fashion Fox is for thrifted brand named items. They carry most of the brands that you will find at your local malls all of which can be found at thrift store prices. They only list what they would wear, so the items are all nice and trendy finds.

Vintage Swank, is for women who want to thrift but are looking for those rare finds that follow todays most recent trends. What only thrifters know is that many vintage items can be bought at low prices and are still very fashion forward in todays trends. As we both know fashion trends tend to cycle through the ages. So our items here are both vintage and new collections but all match todays woman. All items on this site start at $0.99.

I don’t know about you, but I am off to bid on some of those $0.99 dresses!

See what other pieces they sent me and don’t forget to subscribe to my blog! Let’s spread vintage love together!
