This holiday season I really want to talk about something other than clothes. So I will be partnering with Best Buy, and bringing you a few tech posts to inspire you to get on your nerdy side this year.

Even though I am super busy with classes and exams this semester, also trying to fit blogging in between too, and taking outfit photos for my Instagram, I still like my Netflix and Hulu. And even though we have replaced gin with sitcoms, TV is a great way to destress and catch a few laughs.

I still like Once Upon a Time. That’s probably the only show I have been in to for the past couple of years. The new favorite is The 100, with a couple actors from Battlestar Galactica. Nothing else has really stood out to  me. What shows do you watch these days?

I am also excited for all the holiday movies that will be airing soon. Wouldn’t it be great to watch them on an OLED TV?

I don’t do it in the Jungle, but someday I might

It’s always big when someone gets to be on a reality TV show, especially if that someone is an entire salon. Jungle Red may only look like a garage on the outside, but trust me there is more inside, plus the inside is also organic.

The local downtown salon got on Tabatha Takes Over, because the owner needed help, she was $45,000 in debt and actually living in the place! Those of you who watched the show last night could’ve gotten a sneak peak on her bras and the disgusting shower (I had a better one growing up in Russia! Just saying 😉 ) The staff was a hoot, the make up artist was doing vodka shots like no tomorrow, at that point I started wondering how Russian she might be on the scale of 1 – drunk. Plus the dust, the hair, the oh so ranch looking tub for pedicures. No wonder I read horrible reviews on that place!

But here comes Tabatha with her adorable British accent, cursing left and right. In spite of all that, she plays the Fairy Good Mother for Kari, the salon manager and presents her with a yoga instructor job and people who can train her!

The show ends well, I am sure the salon is getting more and more business, to be honest I am still not sure whether it’s worth going to or not, I guess Aveda’s domination and reputation speaks for itself and if I can get an appointment to get my hair cut this week, I will go there.

Now about the party, no good came out of it, but this picture of Sam and I, I mean we are one good looking couple!

The viewing party held at Seven started at 7pm (feel the irony?), we got there around 7.30, 8pm was when the fashion show was supposed to start, and to be honest that was the part I was extremely excited about. But once the models started coming, I realized that this was going to be one hell of a show in a bad way, at some point I thought one of the models was going to fall, she was wobbling on her heels. All models were dressed in black leggings and tanktops. Some were wearing coats, some were just carrying purses or clutches, some were too big for models, some were okay, I guess. I think this was the part that my husband hated the most, but I guess he was expecting more from a fashion show, just like I was. All the clothes were presented by Pink Champagne, a boutique somewhere in the Twin Cities that I never heard of, the owner, who came out at the end of the show was wearing a furry head band and looked like she got lost on her way to Aspen. The video of the final walk-through is below for your judgement:

All in all, Jungle Red was a great fit for Bravo’s reality TV. One part of me wishes there was more drama, but it is what it is. I also wish Tabatha would’ve made it, but alas, she only Skyped, and I guess that reduced the effect she would’ve had on the crowd if she’s been here in person.

Russian Dolls

In Russia every woman is a doll.

Zhenya H

Have you seen that show? It’s on Lifetime! I first heard about it a bout a year and a half ago. One of my friends told me they had castings for a Russian version of Jersey Shore. That was when she told me to get on that show too. Now who is the crazy one?

My husband and I have watched the first episode together, once the second one came around, he couldn’t take it anymore, it gave him a headache. So now I am on my own!

2 episodes later I can definitely tell you that Russian Dolls are nothing like Jersey Shore, we, ladies and gentlemen, have been hit with another Real Housewives, it’s just they have a Russian accent.

The scene where one of the older women goes shopping for jewelry, after her husband just gave her $25,000 and she asks him – What can you buy nowadays for $25,000? is just like when one of the housewives (Teresa Giudice) goes jewelry shopping in Atlantic City. And, honey, back to your question about 25 quid – I have a lot of answers to that!

The one exciting thing about the show are the three young girls ( only because I can relate to them more, since we are closer in age)

Unfortunately that is the only thing that makes them relatable for me. At least one of them knows how to cook borscht!

One of my Russian friends told me earlier today that she has no desire to be associated with those women from the show. And the funny thing is – once you tell people you are Russian – they ask you one of the two questions (or sometimes both) – Are you a mail order bride? and Have you seen Russian Dolls?

I simply want to tell you, that not all Russian women are like the ones in the show. And not all Russian women are mail order brides either. We are not gold-diggers, or poorly educated blondes, who are looking for a sugar daddy. We just want a fresh start, and the possibilities, we would’ve never had in Russia. And if you see me in the street and start speaking Russian to me, I will probably reply back in Russian. I do say “Zdravstvyite” to the local jewish grandma’s after all.

So watch Russian Dolls, don’t watch it – it’s up to you, just remember – it’s TV and it’s all entertainment! So have FUN!

PS. And remember – this is what a real Russian Doll looks like 😉

Also, there are some pretty awesome Russian Doll necklaces available on the Internet and even at Target. I couldn’t find the exact picture of the one they sell there, but it looks something like this

Fall 2011 Shows I am excited for

It doesn’t take much to make my day! Usually one episode of Chelsea Lately is enough. Since I have run out of books to read written by her, and I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on “The Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me” I am simply enjoying watching Chelsea Lately, every time it’s on TV. If there are no new episodes, I watch re-runs of That 70’s Show. Now last week the impossible happened, I learned that Laura Prepon will be starring in a new show based on one of Chelsea’s books – Are you there vodka? it’s me Chelsea. Which will air this fall. Don’t you just love this?

I don’t know why they picked Laura to play Chelsea, I like to think that it’s the Russianness that they both poses. And, well, they are both blond 🙂

I am also extremely excited for Chelsea herself to be on the show, playing a part of her sister. And of course Jo Koy!

So, thank you, NBC for this amazing show! I am officially excited!

The next show I am also excited for has my fav Zooey Deschanel. And it will air on Fox this fall. I am sure you’ve already figured out that I am talking about the New Girl!

Zooey’s face in this picture says it all! I am as excited for this as she is 🙂

I am also excited for the return of the Big Bang Theory, and the Office, and the other shows that I watch, except for I don’t think I’ll have this much time to watch them, because I’ll be married 🙂

Corrupting my world

I have noticed, that I started doing what I was always doing best – nothing! I also procrastinate, screw up my schedule & stay up till 2 or 3 am. I watch everything, there are so many shows out there, and I watch all of them. Correction, I watch the ones, that are either funny, or sad, or have something in common with my life.

The Big Bang Theory – my fiance is a geek, and he turned me into one, so I can relate to Penny & Leonard.

The Big C – my grandma has cancer, stage 4, that show is my emotional outlet, I cry when I watch it. No one understands, but Cathy!

The Millionaire Matchmaker – I learn constructive criticism.

Hellcats – speaks to my inner cheerleader.

The Office – everyone watches it, and I have driven through Scranton.

Keeping up with the Kardashians – They study Kim’s case in Harvard business school, I was accepted to an Ivy League school!

Modern Family – reminds me why I don’t want to have kids!

The Simpsons – I have a poster with the most famous quotes from there!

Family Guy – Love Mila Kunitz.

That 70’s Show – Donna (Laura Prepon) is partially Russian.

Sex & the City – Love Manhattan scenery, watch it to recognize places, and then yell out – I was there!

Cougar Town – Love Cortney Cox, esp. her hair!

Ancient Aliens – Have to watch something on History Channel, right?

Firefly – gotta watch a sci-fi show once in your life, even if it is during Passover in Florida with the people you don’t really like.

And a whole lot of other stuff!
