Sam and I have just returned from our road trip to Colorado. We were so lucky to have been able to make this trip happen. From getting time off at work, to driving all the way there, to admiring nature, to hiking, to spending time with friends, it was an awesome trip. Except for one thing. Sam thought he could skip out on shaving that whole time. But I quickly went to Walmart (luckily they are everywhere in Colorado) and bought him the new Gillette Flexball Razor to fix that. Gillette Flexball Razors are creating a smooth summer face. Gillette provided my husband with that handsome faceI could die for, because a #SmoothSummer is the best kind of summer.

Colorado is a perfect place. We loved it there. It was Sam’s first trip there, and I was so excited I could share one of my favorite places in the US with him. Of course, Doug and Marianne are the ones to thank, it wouldn’t have happened without them either.

I remember a couple years ago putting “Trip to Colorado” on my New Years resolutions list, and it finally happened. 2014 has been an awesome year, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with my friends, family and you, my dear readers.

So away we go and I am going to let the pictures tell the story.

Our first stop in South Dakota. The view was so breathtaking we had to pull over for selfies. And since it was so gorgeous, we forgot the name of this river 🙂

dani-and-ryan-get-married

We made it to Colorado right on time for Dani’s wedding. It was absolutely beautiful and special! Thank you for sharing your happy day with us Dani and Ryan!

bird-love

What trip would it have been without us goofing off at a candy store in Boulder? That’s right! A boring one! But we are far away from that, we help spread bird love!

Hiking for 6 miles is a breeze when you are at the Garden of the Gods. But sometimes Sam got lost among the rocks.

Since there aren’t that many bodies of water in Colorado, Sam and I opted for a frozen version of it. At the top of Pikes Peak! That was the only day I can justify him keeping his facial hair – for warmth.

At the end of the trip we made a detour to visit Mount Rushmore, and see the presidents! Sam blended in well with all the bikers who were there for a rally.

Overall it was an amazing trip and I am happy to announce that Sam did indeed shave, on Friday, before work. He loved the razor for it’s flexibility, precision and design.

I hope you are enjoying your summer, your vacation, the great outdoors, and this post about our trip out west. This weekend we are coming down to Chicago and Quad Cities! See you there?

Beauty Brunch: What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag?

20140729-080117-28877844.jpg

What do you bring with you when you are on vacation? Do you pack all the necessary skincare, makeup and hair products? Or do you bring the bare minimum?

Road tripping is definitely different from air travel, I don’t have any restrictions on size and number of products, but I didn’t want to overpack! So here is everything I packed on my trip to Colorado.

20140729-074154-27714793.jpg
20140729-074155-27715043.jpg

To be honest a few of the things were packed in hopes of finally using them up, which actually did happen with a couple of the products.

Do you think I overpacked or didn’t pack enough? What’s in your travel makeup bag?

I will be back in the Cities August 1 to head to Macy’s Glamorama! An exciting event that benefits a great cause. Give me a shoutout if you are going to be there!

A trip to Chicago is next! And once again I want to see you, meet you and check out the best local thrift stores! I am already making plans with a few of my blogger friends, but I am sure I’ll have time for you too!

Twin Cities Travelin’: Como Zoo and St Paul

Tuesdays have become one of my favorite days of the week. Aside from having Tuesdays Off (that’s my Tumblr btw 😉 ) I get to spend them with Jameson of Lessons with Coffee and explore Twin Cities like never before.

2014-07-08 10.19.44

Last week we went to Como Zoo, and since I’ve been there multiple times on field trips with kids from work, I knew I wanted to visit Conservatory Gardens. We did however tried to take a picture of giraffes walking outside through the fence, to which a little girl told us that we have to walk around and go through the entrance to do that.

The Conservatory Gardens was a lot of what I expected and more. The inside is beautiful, but I think the Japanese Garden was my favorite, including the bonsai exhibit. Did you know that all bonsai trees are shaped like a triangle? And sometimes there are accent plants that can’t be higher than the top of the pot next to them? I learned so much that day. We met a really helpful volunteer, who told us about the Japanese tea ceremony and the tea house. I love tea, but I don’t think I could drink that green tea that they serve there.

After we visited the Conservatory Gardens the plan was to stop by The Russian Tea House on University Ave. But apparently that place is only open on Fridays 11-3! Too bad, so sad! And I was!

So instead we stopped by Second Debut, took pictures in front of the awesome mural. And then drove to Grand Ave and ate lunch at Salut!

Twin Cities Travlin’: MIA and Lyndale Rose Gardens

discover-twin-cities

Welcome to Twin Cities Travels. Brought to you by Jameson of Lessons with Coffee and yours truly. Today’s post will be a two in one! Our first Twin Cities Tuesday was spent at MIA (Minneapolis Institute of Art – 2400 3rd Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55404), and last week we went to Lyndale Rose Gardens.

Originally, Jameson and I were going to simply hang out, but then thought, why not blog about it? So here we go!

Minneapolis Institute of Art has been one of those places I’ve never been to. Can you believe it? I still can’t to be completely honest. And since it’s a donation based admission (FREE!) I didn’t have to think about it twice.

We grabbed some coffee at Spyhouse on Nicolette Ave (Spy Girl is my current favorite) and walked over to MIA. The neighborhood it’s located in is a sight in itself, from the brownstones, to the carousel horse fence, to the zebra hiding in the bushes. I felt like a tourist in my own city.

I discovered Lyndale Rose Gardens last year right on my Birthday, when Sam and I were walking around Lake Harriet. And I knew I wanted to go back there. I was also extremely interested in seeing Peace (Rock) Garden. And since I almost always have to stand out, I had to wear a “new” dress I got from Minneapolis Blogger Sale, which I thought was perfect, and if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I make hiking in a dress look as easy as 1-2-3!

We also made origami paper cranes, also known as peace cranes. I carry mine in my wallet now, I am not sure about peace, but it definitely makes me happy.

And we now have our very own #tct water bottles, that Jameson made. This week I am working on a little DIY as well.

I hope you had a great 4th of July. I was lighting fireworks all night!

Milwaukee in a Day

Our trip to Milwaukee was short and sweet, but completely captivating, and I can’t wait for a chance to go back. Sam got lucky, he spent more time in the city than I did. Since I spent all day Saturday at the Blogger Bazaar, I only got a couple hours on Sunday in downtown and by the water front. Here are some pictures from our trip, as well as more pictures from the blogger event, including pictures from RpKeskar Photography. Enjoy!

A day in life of a blogger: Mother’s Day 2012

Get ready for another overwhelming post with photos from our Sunday trip around Minnesota!

But first of all don’t forget about the GIVEAWAY! You can enter it here. Hurry, you only have a few more days to enter!

Now about our Mother’s day – since my mom is all the way back in Russia, we only had one to pay all of our attention to! My mother in law! I actually got Sam to take a picture with her!

How can you not love them?

Our mother’s day map looked like this:

That pottery place was great! They had free food and coffee too! And of course some cool stuff to look at and take pictures with! If you know me well, you know that I don’t usually buy anything at events like this, but after I am done there I go to a thrift store and find something similar (I have a post on thrifting for home coming up soon! I promise!)  So here are some shots of the place:

There were also these cute puppies, and they were so so soft, I wish I could’ve just taken them home with me!

We also got to take pictures in these awesome chairs, while the guys who were occupying them left 🙂

I also had to take a picture with a barn! These are just fun to spot here and there around the state! And I was always wondering why they were red (or very burnt out red 😉 )

Next we went to Taylors Falls! It’s a state park on the border with Wisconsin. To be honest, I wasn’t really dressed for the place, because it was so rocky, but we had fun anyways!

Look how strong Sam is!

Christmas picture 2012?

Inside a pot hole!

Outfit of the day: Urban outfitters dress and shoes, Steve Madden shades and the CVS Pharmacy reusable bag that has ORGANIC written on it 🙂

Our last stop was FRANCONIA:

It’s a sculpture garden, with some very unusual sculptures!

I hope you had fun looking through the pictures of our day with us! If you speak Russian don’t forget to check out this video! And even if you don’t speak Russian, go ahead and check it out!

So Take Me Down To The River…

I just wanted to share a bit of Minneapolis with you! I hope you all fall in love with this city as much as I did 🙂

Here is a little bit of Grace Potter for you to enjoy!

The Zhenya, or There and Not Back

I know this is going to seem weird, that I blogged about my first day in America before blogging about my trip here. But sometimes I just like doing things backwards. And it’s probably the jetleg kicking in as well!

My mom and I left Vladimir at about 3 am on Wednesday morning, the cab driver was super fast, we got to Sheremetyevo in under 3 hours! There were a couple times when I really questioned our driver, and whether he had cut out his license out of a cereal box or not! Once at Sheremetyevo I checked my bags, and after spending a little bit more time with my mom, I went to the passports control. It didn’t take a lot of time, and I soon found myself catching up on the latest episode of Chelsea Lately.

That’s when I saw one of the Russian TV hosts, Vladimir Pozner. He’s been on TV well for forever! I remember watching him when I was about 6 or 7, because the cartoons were on, right after his talk-show. He was very nicely dressed and so tan! I was going to go get his autograph, but Chelsea Lately was more important, and I couldn’t find him afterwards, talk about missed opportunities here.

Terminal D was a very pleasant surprise, nice and clean, free wireless, a cafe called “Mama Russia”. I was hanging out by one of the outlets, watching the Kardashians and Jerseylicious and charging my Mac at the same time, which was further away from the gate. When I finally came up to the gate I saw that they have put the blue tape all around it and before you could get on the plane they checked your documents again.

And this is when the fun began. So apparently I was chosen by a computer for an additional search. I mean the girl looked through everything. Made me turn on all of my electronics. Had me take sips of my water. I also had a deodorant in my suitcase, I asked her if she wanted me to apply it. Then I said that it was okay for her to be searching my stuff, she was only doing her job, and that was probably the one way for her to make money. She also asked me if I was going for work. I said I was immigrating, getting married and all. After the search was over she wished me “happiness in marriage” and off I went, waiting in the gate area with other passengers. Other than me they also searched one other girl. I guess the computer was determined to only have the airport employees to search 2 people on the flight that day!

The good thing was – I got two seats to myself, which meant 2 blankets, 2 pillows, but no 2 meals, which weren’t good anyways. Sorry Aeroflot, food sucked!

Once I got States side, everything was a breeze, especially after I DIDN’T forget to pull out my New York State driver’s license.

Coming to Minneapolis, I also got 2 seats to myself! And arriving here was like coming home! I finally got to see the apartment that Sam wouldn’t show me on Skype, keeping it a surprise. I love every square inch of it! Already thinking about decorating it, but don’t want to buy everything just yet, with the wedding coming up I know I will be able to register for a lot of things.

Tomorrow I get to see my dress! I’ve never been more excited. Also, Sam and I have started premarital counseling!
