Surgery and Other Things

Hi friends,

Typing today is difficult, literally. I had an elbow surgery last week, and am still in a splint, which is supposed to come off tomorrow (can you hear me yell CAN’T WAIT!!!), but I’ve been down to one hand when it comes to typing, doing dishes, putting on makeup, and all the other things you do with two hands.

Here is the list of things I miss doing with my left hand/arm the most:

  1. Doing my hair and makeup.
  2. Flossing.
  3. Driving.
  4. Wearing my wedding rings.
  5. Typing.
  6. Cooking and cleaning.
  7. Knitting and crocheting.
  8. Carrying stuff.
  9. Opening a jar.
  10. Being able to hug Sam and scratch Mason at the same time when I sit between the two of them on the couch.

Over the past two weeks I had an amazing opportunity to travel to Milwaukee and Seattle for job interviews. And this story, unlike the trip and fall has a happy ending. I have a job lined up after college. It’s still surreal and I sometimes have to pinch myself, but I am beyond excited.

Milwaukee was unbelievably warm at 70 F when we landed on Thursday. A strange mix between St Paul and Chicago, it was captivating. I couldn’t stop exploring, and may have ended up barefoot in the streets, because I couldn’t take my heels any longer. But it’s all snapchat history now.

Seattle was amazing. I’ve never been to the West Coast before, and it was beautiful with all it’s rain, water and mountains. There is a Russian place called Piroshky Piroshky, and even though they didn’t have the Vatrushka I wanted, I got my Russian pastry fix and a discount on top of that. I also got to meet a lot of amazing people and see one of the fastest growing companies that has been making a lot of news from the inside.

I will be back more often now, I promise. I think I’ve promised it at the end of every post lately, but I will be, I am going to try!

H&M Opening in St Cloud || Crossroads Center

9-28-2015 12-25-39 PM

Balmain collection for H&M has fashion lovers and shopaholics all over the world talking. Exclusive designer collaborations are a great way to gain exposure and credibility these days. And  H&M knows all about it.

H&M is coming to St Cloud! The new store is opening at Crossroads Center on November 5, 2015 at noon! 20,000 square feet is no joke, and I am sure all budget fashionistas in St Cloud area and beyond are lining up for the store opening already. I know I would be if I could.

Sustainability is an integral part of H&M; the brand is actively working to ensure that both new and existing stores are sustainable in the long term. Initiatives include recycling waste, utilizing water and energy efficient systems, and selecting environmentally responsible materials such as certified wood and fabrics.

H&M is not only a great retailer offering quality clothing for the whole family, but a great employer as well. They are creating new jobs in the St Cloud area, making it an exciting time to join this constantly growing company.

I can’t believe that H&M has been in the US for 15 years already. The 5th ave stores were always my favorite. And every time I am at the Mall of America or Uptown, I pop into H&M to see new styles and trends – the perks of being a retail merchandising major, right?

Did you also know that H&M is committed to using exclusively organic cotton in all of their collections by 2020? That’s less than 5 years from now, and time surely flies.

Now for the best part: To celebrate the new store, the H&M at the Crossroads Center will offer the first 200 shoppers in line an H&M t-shirt and Access to Fashion Pass, valued between $20 and $200, in addition to other surprise offers for the whole family.

As far as my fall/winter H&M must-haves? Here are just a few 😉

Brushed Twill Pants | Alpaca-blend sweater | Jacquard-knit dress

Sweatshirt | Wool-blend top | Jacquard-knit poncho

Wide-cut pants | Wool-blend cape | Jacquard-weave shorts | Textured knit sweater

V-neck Satin BlouseJacquard-knit PonchoPile Coat

H&M at Crossroads Center is located at 4101 Division St., St Cloud, Minnesota 56301. The store can be reached by phone at 855-466-7467 . Store hours will be Monday through Saturday 10:00am – 9:00pm, Sunday 11:00am – 6:00pm

Luminess AirSupremacy

Hello friends,

How have you been? After two weeks of not posting anything, and evaluating and reevaluating my existing blog space, I came to a conclusion that it’s better for all of us if I post more reviews and tutorials (especially the DIY kind), and if you want to see my outfits, there is Instagram for that!

A couple months ago I got the opportunity to try Luminess AirBrush System, and when I was offered to try the new Mist Airbrush Foundation, I couldn’t resist. The less I touch my face the better my skin looks, it’s an easy rule I’ve been following since I was 13 and started using makeup. I must admit following is a strong word though, because when I am stressed, I am stressed and I start touching my face, picking at anything that may be healing, and then having to deal with all the consequences. Even makeup brushes cause breakouts when the midterms and finals hit.

That’s why airbrushing is my saving grace. Not only do I not touch my face with my hands, I have also eliminated the step of having to touch it with the brushes.

Now the Luminess AirSupremacy boasts

  • superior build-able, yet breathable coverage;
  • ideal for sensitive skin;
  • dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested;
  • paraben, fragrance and oil free;
  • never tested on animals;
  • no mess application;
  • minimizes fine lines, wrinkles and texture.

The starter kit comes with 5 products and 2 brushes. I got the shade fair, I think that’s the shade I received last time, and I was very happy to see that Luminess Air remembered my preference. The 5 products that come in the kit are:

  • Refreshing and Moisturizing Mist Face Primer (2 oz.)
  • Ultimate Flawless Mist Airbrush Foundation Shade 2 Bloom (2 oz.)
  • Ultimate Flawless Mist Airbrush Foundation Shade 3 Golden Beige (2 oz.)
  • Natural Finish Mist Airbrush Blush (2 oz.)
  • 18 hour long-wear mist makeup sealant ( .5 oz.)

The kit includes two brushes, a small blush/powder brush and a Pro-Air blender sponge brush, which I haven’t used yet. The purpose of the Pro-Air Blender is to help get rid of the over-spray or blotchiness, and remove any excess makeup. The brush is an alternative method of applying foundation if you don’t want to spray it directly on your face.

Every product needs to be shaken for about 5 seconds before you apply it. And as far as the word “mist” goes, the only one that’s truly a mist in my opinion is the primer. The other products are more of aerosols, which explains why there is a brush included in the set – the alternative method of applying foundation.

What I like about the kit the most is it includes everything that you need. I stopped using eyeshadow primer, because the foundation covers the eyelids. The line has a nice fragrance to it. The product is a little drying, so definitely layer up on that moisturizer in the morning and definitely at night. Airbrushing creates an even tone, and helps correct all the discolorations that I have on my face, including the redness caused by breakouts. Here are some before and after photos for you.

Sorry about those, didn’t mean to scare you!

Overall, the system definitely wins over the current Air Brush System I own, even though they are the same brand. It’s the ease of use and no need to clean the dispenser afterwards that has me sold on this one over the existing one. One major advantage of this line and the brand overall is a little really goes a long way here. And the less I use, personally, the better my skin looks.

The product is available on the website and on QVC. And if you have any more questions, don’t hesitate and reach out to me on social media and through the comments.

Disclosure: the product was complimentary. All opinions are my own.

Duluth 2015

Last Saturday we took a day trip to Duluth, and by we I mean Sam and myself, as well as our friends Blake,  Val and Kate.

Sam went to UMD, I spent about a month living there in the end of summer of 2010, we also got engaged in Duluth, and still have friends in the area.

Needless to say it was a fun trip, which included lunch at Burrito Union with one of Sam’s college friends Ryan, who now teaches at UMD, a walk around campus, a lot of picture taking, and even some laying in the sand on the beach.

I know I haven’t posted in a while, but life has been busy and exciting here, not leaving too much free time for the blog, but I’ll try to post at least once a week, I am sure you’ll understand!

Adam Lippes For Target

If you are like me, you’ve been stalking the collection on line for at least a week. I’ve also been reading different guides and looking through everyone’s favorite looks on their blogs. The round ups are pretty cool, I have to say I am excited to shop the collection. Rachel and I are shopping it together, so make sure to follow us on social media and learn what we find, try on and keep/toss!

Fall Smells Like Vintage

IMG_4976 IMG_4994 IMG_5039 IMG_5081 IMG_5084 IMG_5090 IMG_5117 IMG_5176 IMG_5233 IMG_5246 IMG_5300

A few weeks ago we shot some amazing pieces for Alacloth’s ASOS and ETSY stores. She is by far my favorite vintage seller of all, and I can always rely on her to find me something specific.

Having read this recent interview with Bill Cunningham, I started thinking about blogging and fashion industry as a whole. And while I still want to pursue a career as a buyer, I think it’s time to make this blog more unique and more me. Kind of that weird quirky style I used to have. I was so inspired that I even filmed a refashion video for you!

I had my first group presentation and my first midterm this week, and that’s why there will be way less posts on here, and way more pictures on Instagram, but I am very excited about Adam Lippes for Target collaboration that’s coming up at the end of the week, so I think I’ll feature that, and go spend my hard-earned college student dollars on more buffalo plaid!

Meanwhile I am also on a hunt for a garment steamer. I heard there is one at Goodwill by my house 😉

School and Things

School started. You know when I was a kid I used to know all the car models and manufacturers. And then I fell out of the loop. Well, I am back to it now, the knowing I mean. Daily commutes contribute to that. And as excited as I am about my senior year, I am sad. Maybe I’ve been listening to too much Radiohead lately, but the unknown scares me, kind of. Sam has been extremely supportive and told me to take as long as I need to find that dream job after I graduate. So I am not really worried about that, I guess it’s more excitement that keeps me up at night.

I am at 18 credits this semester, one being an empty internship credit that I fulfilled over the summer. But I am taking Merchandising Math, Retail Promotions, Stats, Management and Introduction to Entrepreneurship, which may be my favorite class.

So between classes, “work”, and walking Mason, I also try to find time to keep my house together and not ditch all of my friends.

Meanwhile, catch me on Instagram.

Floral Fall Trend

Blogging is an interesting and weird thing. We go online, write a post, upload some photos, create a SEO title and put in some keywords. Then we share it on social media. Sometimes we share a lot, sometimes way too much. But then you meet people who share your interests and passions, you make friends, you attend events. And somehow in the end it all makes sense, so we keep doing it.

And while you are contemplating your existence now, I am sharing my favorite part about transitional seasons – fall floral trend, that is until the first snow falls.

Sam and I had an incredible 4 day weekend. Thursday we went to campus, and oh my goodness how I missed it! We went to all three campuses, took the connector to St Paul, because I wanted Sam to see my campus, and because I wanted to go to Lori’s for coffee.

It definitely feels good to be a senior, but the realization hasn’t hit me yet. I love school, being on campus (even though I don’t live on campus) and seeing my friends. And I know it will be hard for me to leave, but I’m going to enjoy my last year to the fullest.

This semester I’ll be busy with 18 credits, and two internships, I’m staying with Verizon for a while, as well as continuing my Style Guru escapades with CollegeFashionista. This semester I will also be a social media inter at CF, so keep an eye out for all the awesome #stylegurulove posts on my Instagram.
