Mix and Mesh

Oh no! My only mesh shirt is in Minnesota while I’m still in Colorado! I am driving home today but hate to miss a great Thrift Style Thursday! So here are some pics from my vacation! And I will post a mesh outfit soon! I’m sure the girls came up with something amazing this week!

August starts tomorrow! What???? Can you believe it? Only 4 more weeks before school starts! But let’s take advantage of the sunny days, play outdoors and have fun. I want to invite you to join #ThriftStyleAugust Instagram challenge. The rules are simple: follow the prompts for each day and make sure to use the hashtag! And you don’t have to post every day if you can’t! Also, as you may have noticed all the Thursday prompts match our Thrift Style Thursday themes.

So have fun with the challenge, hopefully it will inspire you and encourage you to go thrifting.

Until later,

Colorado, Chicago, Glamorama

Hey everyone! This is a quick update about the next month of my life!

Sam and I are in Colorado this week! Yay road trip!!! And I need you to tell me where to go thrifting! I’ll be in Denver and Colorado Springs area, and want to make sure I get a chance to check out the best local thrift stores between hiking and biking and the rest of my vacationing!

I will be back in the Cities August 1 to head to Macy’s Glamorama! An exciting event that benefits a great cause. Give me a shoutout if you are going to be there!

A trip to Chicago is next! And once again I want to see you, meet you and check out the best local thrift stores! I am already making plans with a few of my blogger friends, but I am sure I’ll have time for you too!

And I have just found out that I will be in the Quad Cities for a couple days as well!

Summer is still not over ;) Go get out there and have fun!

Light Metallic

My friend Jameson of Lessons with Coffee is having a garage sale this weekend. It’s absolutely amazing! shopped it last night and had a blast. Honestly this post wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for that garage sale.

I bought the metallic Ann Taylor skirt, and the vintage pink top I am wearing in the first look there (among other things  of course!)

I’ve also noticed the tendency to post two looks on Thrift Style Thursdays. It might be a coincidence, but let me know if you like it, and I’ll keep styling one item in different ways.

Also, exciting news Thrift Style Thursday now has it’s own Facebook page! So join in!

Happy weekend early everyone! I am off to Colorado tomorrow! Yay road trip!

Effortless Summer Beauty: Hair, Lips and Nails

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #WalgreensBeauty #CollectiveBias

I love summer for many reasons, but one of the main ones is how effortless I can be with my makeup looks. Summer is when all the eyeshadow palettes get put away, and all I focus on, as you may have guessed from the post title, are hair lips and nails. One of the main reasons why I give up on the eyeshadow for the summer is because of sunglasses. As much as I love and enjoy putting on and wearing eye makeup, I cut back on it big time. Foundation, Mascara (Maybelline Volum’Express Pumped Up Colossal Mascara is the new summer favorite), Eyebrow pencil, Powder and Blush is what my summer beauty routine consists of.

I absolutely adore nail polish, and have quiet an extensive collection. But I never seem to have time for it. So for the past two weeks I’ve been making an effort and putting on a different color every few days. I didn’t wear nail polish on my nails for about a day, and couldn’t stand looking at my nails, they looked so sad. And of course with Essie and it’s amazing colors, like Sunday Funday, every day is a celebration.

Putting on lipstick has always been like putting on confidence. Lipstick helps you stand out. Lipstick is a great conversation starter. Lipstick helps make friends. Lipstick speaks for itself. But this time I went with Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in New York Scene. I wanted my lips to stay moisturized and my color to be long lasting without the stickiness of the gloss. This beautiful deep red lip color makes me feel beautiful, I couldn’t ask for more.

I love shopping for beauty products at Walgreens, they always have the latest trends, plus brands that I can’t find anywhere else, like this Mark Hill Fabulous Finish Hairspray. It was love at first sight. The packaging, the scent, the finish, the way my hair looks and feels. I have found my new must have. The whole Mark Hill line actually seemed very appealing to me and I would love to feature them on my blog in the future. And the fact that Mark Hill is an actual person and one of Britain’s Favorite Celebrity Hairdressers, makes me obsessed with him even more. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices on this salon line.  And because I shopped Walgreens, I earned points towards my next rewards. Gotta love my Balance Rewards Card!

How would you summarize your summer beauty routine? What do you skip out on or add to the routine?

Twin Cities Travelin’: Guthrie Theater and Stone Arch Bridge

Hands down, hanging out with Jameson of Lessons with Coffee for our Twin Cities Travelin’ series has been amazing, but on my Birthday! Double win! I had an amazing day, because St Anthony Main is one of my favorite places in the cities, but I’ve never been to Guthrie!

We started the day off with breakfast and mochas at Wild Roast Cafe, because Aster Cafe didn’t open till later, and you know us, teachers, we are early birds. That’s actually is only true on Jameson’s part, because I have been feeling like sleeping can easily be my superpower these days. A little about the food at the cafe. The mochas were amazing, but too sweet in the end. My creme brûlée french toast was more like a french toasted half a loaf of home made bread, but delicious. So yes to the toast, no to mocha! Unless you really like sugar!

Jameson also surprised me with some Birthday presents. I knew what they were going to be, but had no idea what they would look like. But from now on, I demand that everyone gets Marc Jacobs dresses and Coach purses on their Birthdays!

Then we walked across the Stone Arch Bridge towards Guthrie, it was perfect fall weather in July, which ended around 1 pm. I think by now Jameson and I have mastered the art of taking self-shooters and selfies. Sometimes we set my camera up on a picnic table, sometimes on the foundation of an electric tower. Tripods? No, haven’t heard :)

Guthrie was amazing and a little psychedelic. I always loved that place for the huge picture of Anton Chekov which you can see from across the river. Russian Culture is something I’ve always been proud of.

Inside we walked the halls decorated with photos from the plays past, took pictures, and said hi to some ghosts.

If you haven’t been inside the Guthrie theater, you must go today! Now only to see a play there!

And of course we walked down to the Mills Ruin Park. Every time I go there I think about what life was like 100 + years ago. And sometimes I want to be taken to that era for a day, detox from all the social media, the phone, the modern day life.

And that’s a wrap! I am so sad I’ll have to miss out on the next 2 weeks, because I am leaving for Colorado on Friday. But I will be back in time for Glamorama!  So don’t miss me too much, Twin Cities!

being-zhenya-quote dainty-style dainty-look

I feel like my style is anything but dainty. I love oversized, baggy shirts and sweaters with skinny jeans and boots; boots with dresses, anything that’s hippie/boho like – that’s up my alley. But dainty? I don’t think so. Needless to say, this post and putting outfits together for it stressed me out quiet a lot. But I pulled myself together, and put together two looks, that I hope, summarize my interpretation of “dainty”.

Have you notices that I’ve been absolutely in love with my Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag? I tend to obsess over the things I buy for myself.

Some of you may know that yesterday was my Birthday. And, just like that I got myself a pair of Frye boots. I can’t say I always wanted ones, and have been dying to get my hands on them, but at the right place and the right time, well, now I own a pair. And just like that, they walk me now.

Hope you all had a great day!

Love, have fun and Frye!

Urban Gothic

Happy Thursday! Today I put together two gothic inspired outfits for you. One is more precessional and office appropriate, while the second one is sassy and meant for parties, going out and dancing! Both of the outfits feature the same Elle brand dress I got from Megan of Two Birds at our Minneapolis Blogger Sale. Two pairs of shoes: Rampage Heels and Naturalizer flats that I am wearing were given to me by my coworker. I am wearing my husband’s old Timex watch. So the only things that I actually spend my money on were the purses: 3.1 Philip Lim for Target is the large tote bag that I feature a lot in my outfits, and my brand new Rebecca Minkoff mini bag that I got as a Birthday gift for myself from Shopbop.

Acer Iconia A1 First Impression

Let’s get technical, technical. Okay, I have to admit, we are a family of geeks. I love my technology, gadgets, widgets, plugins, laptops, SSD, and tablets. From Android to iOS to Windows, I’ve tried it! Some I love, some I hate, some I’d never recommend.

Today we are going to take a first look at Acer Iconia A1. An android tablet with Intel inside, this tablet reminded me of my iPad mini. The sleek white design and the feel of it definitely make it feel more expensive than it really is (retail price around $179).

It’s a great tablet for blogging, it lets you check social media, answer emails, and edit photographs (I’ve just discovered Retrocam).

Sadly the camera is not that great. The rear one is 5.0 MP, while the front facing one is only 2.0 MP. Maybe I will get a hang of photographing with this tablet, but I am not getting my hopes up. So to actually edit the said photographs, you need to jump through Dropbox hoops.

The battery life is quiet impressive – lasts up to 7.5 hours. The screen resolution is alright, I like watching YouTube videos, as well as Netflix, Hulu and Crackle, and it’s a great tablet for that.

Speakers and volume work well. I don’t need to blast music, unless we are having a backyard party, and then I can use speakers. But I love my Spotify app. What’s your favorite playlist by the way?

Overall it’s a budget tablet in a stylish package. It’s definitely better than some other tablets out there (I am talking to you Samsung Galaxy, every time that I have to use you at work, is painful).

I am looking forward to exploring apps that are android only, so if you have any recommendations, please comment below. Do you use a tablet? Which one do you use/prefer/would get?

And stay tuned for more posts about Acer Iconia A1!

Tops n Tees n Butterfly Knees

Summer makes me want to wake up early and stay up late. Summer makes me not want to go to work. Summer is when I wake up and after my morning routine of oil pulling and cup of coffee I sit down and start looking for inspiration. Sometimes it’s in the sun I see rising through the trees on Rhode Island avenue. Sometimes it’s in my herb garden that I have managed to keep alive. Sometimes summer is in the morning breeze and I need a blanket to cover my legs, and a husband’s sweatshirt to wear, because it’s still chilly. Summer flows into me, and I get dressed and get ready for the day. Tops, and tanks, and accessories, everything is there, and everything expresses who I am.
