TC Style Magazine Cover + Christmas Colors

This winter I get to be on the cover of TC Style Magazine. TC stands for Twin Cities. My friend Jasmine is the Editor-in-chief, and we’ve been planning this since summer! But she surprised me by putting me on the cover! Jasmine is a sweetheart, she loves and looks like Taylor Swift, and told me yesterday that she is going to New York City over New Years, flying in New Years Eve and leaving New Years Day, they are not staying anywhere, no hotel reservations. How awesome is that? Here is me keeping my fingers crossed for spring break! A lot will depend on the next few weeks. Plus I am waiting to get my grades back, so the browser refreshing game is on and it’s strong!

The magazine is free and local and you can find it in the boutiques around the area.

I also have several festive nail polish options for you this holiday season. They are all SinfulColors which is a chic and affordable brand made in the US. The nail polish is very long lasting and  this season – pretty glittery! The colors I have here are Twilight Twinkles, Galax-Sea, Hottie, and Ice Dream.

2015 Fashion Trends To Look Forward To

Before we jump into the 2015 trends (I also have a special Pinterest board dedicated to 2015 trends here), let me tell you what I’ve been up to!

School has been amazing, I love the U, and so proud to be going there. But I can’t wait for the semester to be over, for the year to be over, and for all the new beginnings 2015 will bring. Going back to college at 28 is probably the best decision I made in 2014, and I can’t believe how many amazing people I’ve met and connected with, and how many of them are supportive of my blog. I am so excited that I had so many fun opportunities this year, and I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store.

Friday morning as I was french pressing my coffee, I pushed down too hard on the handle and burnt my arm with boiling coffee/water. It quickly blistered, as I was running cool water over my right wrist, while using my left hand to text Sam and let him know what just happened. Luckily it didn’t hurt for long, and I was able to write my math final without any problem. I have two more finals on Monday and Tuesday, and a project due on Wednesday, but once it’s all over I will be back with style posts, DIYs and a couple beauty reviews.

As far as my burn goes, I’ve been telling people that when I am stressed I burn myself, or that I slit my wrist, or that I don’t feel safe at home, or that it’s how I put my cigarettes out. One of my coworkers was so sweet to ask if I got a tattoo, I was really flattered she thoughts I was that bad ass. Maybe some day.

Now back to 2015, here are the trends I am really excited for:

My #MomentsofChic with Piperlime

2014-12-08 08.40.48

#momentsofchic

Today I am bringing you a new post in collaboration with Piperlime. You may have seen other blog posts and followed the #momentsofchic hashtag on Instagram (if you haven’t you totally should).

I was so excited to pair the Joe’s Boyfriend Slim Jeans with this white Schaefer Top by Rachel ZoeI am absolutely in love with the stitching detailing of the top, that creates it’s own white on white pattern. And the jeans are seriously one of the stylish and most comfortable ones I’ve owned.

2014-12-07 23.41.32

This semester I tool a Fashion Ethics and Consumption class, and there was a questionnaire in one of the lectures, and one of the questions was – Have you ever bought something that had rips and was distressed on purpose. Well, now I have. I personally think that this is the way to go with boyfriend jeans. You need that distressed look to make the jeans look yours, feminine and stylish.

2014-12-08 08.42.45

I paired the jeans and the top with my hand-made crochet scarf (click for instructions here), as well as my favorite studied booties, Rebecca Minkoff 5 zip mini bag and a leaf locket necklace.

2014-12-08 08.39.44

I thought there were no boyfriend jeans to fit my body without making me look ridiculous. Even though I have that slightly boyish figure. But these jeans made it so easy. So after wearing them non-stop for a week, and I will probably continue wearing them this week as well, here are

Some tips on wearing boyfriend jeans:

1. Choose a darker wash. It’s not that the dark is slimming, in my opinion it just looks better on most of us.

2. Choose distressed. Like I mentioned before rips, tears and frays are going to be your new favorite.

3. If you are like me (not too big of a butt), go a size up. I know that’s not something you normally hear. But that extra size adds on to the slouch and the lower hanging crotch that I like so much. (I can also take these jeans off without having to unbutton or unzip them ;) )

4. Cuff or uncuff. That’s up to you, I like them cuffed with sneakers, booties, and slip ons, also sandals and flats. But I also think boyfriend jeans look extremely cool uncuffed with a pair of heels or platforms.

5. Oversize the top, maybe just a little. You know I am into the oversized trend, and I love when sweaters or tops are a bit big on me. So if you are not top heavy (34B over here), I say do it!

So check out my look, and all the pieces, and get ready for more style tips. DIY posts and our Christmas Tree story later this week!

Being Zhenya

ZhenyaHutsonBeingZhenya

I have been thinking about writing this post all day yesterday. What am I going to say, how I am going to phrase it, and then decided to just let the words come out as I start typing.

I feel like blogging has become a major business and a money making industry. I feel and I know that Being Zhenya has become a collection of sponsored posts. I know I didn’t lose my voice, I just stopped expressing myself. I let the pictures substitute the words, and the posts became short paragraphs usually ending with an exclamation point. Real life isn’t always like that is it?

So I decided to make this blog more of a journal. The last giveaway I did I asked for some feedback, and I did it for a reason. I wanted to know what interests you the most. And you wanted to see more lifestyle posts, hear more tips and advice on style and accessories. I appreciate this feedback more than anything.

What does it mean for you? Sam will probably get mentioned in my posts a little more, as well as some of my friends. I will also talk about college, because that’s where I am at right now. The style posts will still come, as well as the beauty ones. I will also write more, and go on about my life. I want to make it personal again and I want to be able to talk to you.

On Wednesday one of my readers, Monica, came up to me at the U. She recognized me from my blog. And it was the highlight of my day! She was the sweetest person to talk to. And one of the first questions she asked me was if I still thrifted. Of course, I told her. I just don’t post about it as much. But I am bringing the hauls back :) We will also be relaunching Thrift Style Thursday in a slightly different format in January 2015, so if you want to join in the fun, let me know and we’ll get you started with us!

I have a lot of fun ideas for 2015, and I can’t wait to start this new journey with you all!

Sweater Weather

2014-11-20 08.49.12 2014-11-20 08.52.06

While I am here buried under my homework, Minnesota is buried under the snow. Sweater weather is here, along with  heavy coat weather, and Sorel boots weather. They are saying it will rain on Sunday, which means Monday we are going to skate all over the highways!

I hope you are all doing well. I am having a little spending problem here… (seriously everywhere from MOA, to Goodwill to online!) So excuse me while I go shop online some more ;) Unless you want to join me! Haha

How amazing are all these gloves, turtleneck sweaters and jackets?
