Dressing up on days off is hard, I hate to admit that. Sometimes I don’t even want to get out of my sweats or pajamas. But it always pays off to make that effort. I feel better about myself, my body and my life in general. I have also been struggling with my hair a bit lately. Now that it’s growing out, I am not sure if I want to cut it again, or just trim it and let it grow out a bit longer. Decisions, decisions. Braids have become my way out though. I’ve been French braiding my hair, and seem to be getting away with it.
What do you do with your hair when you don’t know what to do?

There is something mysterious and endlessly sexy about a maxi skirt! There is a saying in Russian – “Within every woman there is a mystery” (Есть в женщине какая-то загадка), and the maxi skirt adds on to that, concealing the legs, and leaving more to the imagination.
My emerald green silk skirt has been in my wardrobe for the past 2 years, it’s a vintage Sears brand, and came from a Salvation Army. Yes. it’s worn out in some places, there are a couple of stains, but it’s beautiful to me, and I hope to you as well! I never had much luck finding a good maxi skirt at a thrift store, probably because I am looking for something specific.
Tips on finding a perfect maxi skirt:
- Look for a light fabric, like chiffon or a silk blend.
- A lot of times vintage maxi skirts have amazing prints, so don’t ignore those.
- A maxi skirt is easy to alter to fit your body! The elastic can always be taken out, and replaced (if it’s a wide vintage type of elastic with three rows of stitches, cut it off altogether and create pleats or a new casing altogether)
- A maxi dress can be easily turned into a maxi skirt!
I paired my skirt with a peplum top and a beaded knot necklace that I’ve had for years. When outside, I threw my Via Spiga coat over the whole ensemble, added this brown Etro clutch to match my suede Mexx boots, and was ready to get out the door, only to get right back in
I will be honest with you, I put together another maxi skirt outfit, that I was going to share in this post, but decided to save for next week! But this is how excited I am because tomorrow is FRIDAY!
And as always – check out how other girls styled their maxi skirts!

I have been really into pattern pants lately. I don’t know what’s going on here, but I bought two pairs over the past 3 weeks.
Last Monday I scored these polka dot beauties from Goodwill! Nothing can beat $5 pants, right?
Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything to match them, so instead I styled them using items from my own closet, including a vintage piece that belonged to my Grandma.
Polka dot pants – Merona – thrifted from Goodwill, White Vintage Lace top – Grandma’s, Striped Jacket – Necessary Objects, consigned, Shoes – unknown, Watch – Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bracelets – H&M
How would you have styled these pants? Do tell!
PS. These amazing pictures wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for my Samsung Galaxy camera!

I know, I know, but let me tell you about this amazing place called Burger Jones! Oh wait, you already knew?!? I sure hope so!
Well let me start by showing off my new living room furniture! It took Sam and I a pretty long time to find the pieces we knew we absolutely loved. And we looked almost everywhere there was to look in the Twin Cities. But you know what it all came down to? Macy’s furniture store in Edina!
My mother-in-law came over and we went to Sur la Table at 50th and France, and got the rest of the beautiful silverware set that my in-laws have me for my Birthday!
We also got some frozen yogurts at the Yogurt Lab, and the Chili Chocolate is to die for! So is salted carmel YUM
Now we are getting to Burger Jones After one “Big Sloppy Kiss”
And this specialty pesto burger
Surprisingly enough I had room for dessert! Which was on the house!
If you are wondering about the dress I like it, but it has this really awkward length, and the pleats don’t go all the way down, so it looks a bit off if you take a closer look!
And here you have it! A second day of my 27 dress project! Don’t forget to enter my Shabby Apple giveaway!
Have you seen that Birthday episode of How I met your Mother, where Lilly goes -
IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!
And I am actually excited to be 27! But 26 has been really good to me! I like my job, I love blogging, I really feel like BeingZhenya.com has actually gotten somewhere over the past year, and it’s only going to continue developing and being there for you, to hopefully inspire and encourage you! We got a house, I mean who would’ve thought that a small town girl from Russia would actually be living far far away from home and doing what she loves!
I do get an occasional hater who comments and says – Zhenya, you moved all the way from Russia, now work at a day care, shop at thrift stores, your life sucks. And even though those comments get deleted, I just want to tell you, that life is what you make out of it, and I feel like my life is just beginning now, and it’s wonderful. I hope you all have a wonderful day today, and a wonderful life. And now a few shots from my Birthday that we celebrated with my family yesterday!
Dress – H&M // Shoes – bought in Russia over 6 years ago o_0
Love me some ice-cream cake and look! they spelt my name right! (Thank you, Neal and Sandra!)
Our new silverware! Don’t you just love it! Now say it with me – Sur La Table
Can’t wait to go sailing!
Bonfire and s’mores at the end of the day!
After we moved, I have come to realize how much vintage clothing I actually have. Unfortunately I couldn’t wear some of it, because it needed to be altered or refashioned! So I decided to start with this vintage Leslie Fay dress:
I got it at Savers last fall, and never wore it because of the neckline, or should I say the lack of it So, that collar was the first thing to go:
Then I cut a good chunk off the bottom, lets be honest, I still got some killer leg to show
I hemmed the raw edges using some vintage navy colored trim that I had, making this dress perfect for the 4th of July!
Sometimes simplicity is the best. I usually don’t stress about my summer outfits, simply keeping them simple! I also wanted to take more pictures with my Nokia Lumia 928. Give or take, this phone takes great pictures!

If you’ve never been to the Twin Cities, that is probably the number one place I would recommend you go to! And of course I had to take advantage of my new Samsung Galaxy camera*, and get some shots!

Vest – Ralph Lauren (thrifted) // Bag – vintage Via Piaggi // Watch – Marc by Marc Jacobs //
